The Cannon Fodder Became the Empire's Beloved Omega - Chapter 36
Yu Ruan: “?”
He could dance all kinds of steps? Was Cheng Mu being serious?
It was important to remember that in this world, with ABO and male/female distinctions, there were a total of six genders when broken down. If Gu Yu really could dance all of them.
Instantly, the image of this Alpha grew significantly more impressive in Yu Ruan’s mind.
Hearing this, Gu Yu shot a cold glare at Cheng Mu, sending a chill down his spine and making him let out an awkward laugh.
Still, Gu Yu seemed relatively calm. He walked over, leaned down to help Yu Ruan open the delivery box, as if waiting for his opinion.
Even so, Yu Ruan felt a bit embarrassed to trouble others, especially since Gu Yu seemed to have little free time. After a moment of consideration, he said, “It’s alright, I can try it out myself first. You’re both quite busy, so I’d rather not bother you.”
Saying this, Yu Ruan worried it might make Gu Yu feel awkward, so he added, “But I’ll probably still need to trouble you later. The robot might not be very good at teaching the finer details.”
After a pause, a faint “Mm” came from beside him.
He had agreed.
Yu Ruan breathed a sigh of relief. Together, he and Gu Yu lifted the robot out of the box, assembled it, and then saw the two of them out of the training room.
As they stepped out, Gu Yu paused slightly. He glanced sideways and said, “Contact me directly if you have any problems.”
Yu Ruan immediately nodded gratefully.
Noticing that Gu Yu had fallen half a step behind, Cheng Mu turned back curiously and called out tentatively, “Gu Yu?”
The Alpha in front of him seemed to want to say something more, his lips parting slightly and his Adam’s apple bobbing. But hearing Cheng Mu’s voice, he frowned slightly, lowered his gaze, and replied dismissively, “Let’s go.”
After seeing the two off, Yu Ruan returned to the training room. He found a chair and sat down, carefully studying the instruction manual.
The robot that Itu had sent him was quite advanced, requiring little setup to get started. Yu Ruan searched the school forum for posts about previous years’ dances, skimmed through them briefly, and decided to try the beginner mode first.
Following the instructions, he connected the robot to his light brain, opened the dedicated app, and set himself as a beginner.
Soon, the robot began working.
To prevent users from getting distracted, the robot’s appearance was designed to be very plain essentially a faceless mannequin. It first struck a pose and then said in a monotone electronic voice, “Please mimic my pose.”
Yu Ruan: “…”
Feeling a bit awkward, he imitated the gesture and began practicing with some difficulty.
The beginner mode Yu Ruan had set involved the robot demonstrating a move first, with the user following along. Once he felt he had the hang of it, he could switch to the next stage and attempt to dance with the robot.
At first, Yu Ruan felt a little embarrassed. Fortunately, he was alone in the training room, and he soon threw himself into the practice wholeheartedly.
After practicing with the robot for over half an hour, Yu Ruan finally felt he was getting the hang of it. He switched to the next stage, ready to test what he had learned.
Unexpectedly, disappointment struck almost immediately.
A harsh error sound rang out, and the robot’s indicator light flashed as it stated flatly, “Incorrect movement. Please try again.”
Silently retracting his foot from the robot’s instep, Yu Ruan gave a light cough and nodded to the robot in confirmation.
Setback after setback followed.
Stepping on the robot’s foot was still considered mild. Next, Yu Ruan encountered difficulties such as moving too quickly, losing balance, tripping over his own feet, and more. The robot’s indicator light turned red again and again under his missteps, as if it were on the verge of staying lit permanently.
Thank goodness I chose to practice with a robot, he thought with relief. If I’d asked a real person, they’d probably have been driven to the hospital by my clumsiness.
Still, the repeated failures left him feeling disheartened. Yu Ruan sighed in frustration, unsure whether to take a break or push through.
Suddenly, a slow, deliberate voice came from nearby: “You’re moving your body too fast.”
Startled, Yu Ruan instinctively turned toward the source of the sound. To his surprise, Gu Yu had returned at some point without him noticing. Leaning casually against the doorframe, Gu Yu remarked calmly, “Moving your feet too quickly will throw off your balance. Pull your right foot back a little.”
He saw it.
He saw everything!!!! Ahhh, help me!! QAQ
Realizing that Gu Yu had been standing there watching for who knows how long, Yu Ruan’s face flushed hot, and his mind went completely blank. The only thought looping in his head was a horrified internal scream, as if a blazing furnace were burning beneath his skin, leaving him utterly mortified.
He immediately took a step back, nearly losing his balance as the robot’s arm supported his waist. Gu Yu’s brow furrowed slightly, and he swiftly reached out to steady Yu Ruan, preventing him and the robot from tumbling to the ground together.
A faint scent of lime instantly filled Yu Ruan’s senses, sending a tingling, electric sensation through the gland at the nape of his neck. The warmth of Gu Yu’s body pressed against his back, and for a moment, their breathing seemed audible in the quiet space.
Yu Ruan stared dumbfounded at the face so close above him, his heart pounding as if squeezed tight. Gu Yu’s sharp jawline tensed slightly as he murmured in a low voice, “Be careful.”
“…” Yu Ruan struggled to form words, torn between embarrassment and shyness. “Thank you. Could you?” Let me go?
He couldn’t muster the courage to finish the sentence in front of Gu Yu.
This is so humiliating.
I want to die. QAQ
Gu Yu looked down at him, his thick lashes veiling the thoughts in his eyes, making it impossible for Yu Ruan to decipher his expression. The scent of lime in the air intensified abruptly. After a long moment, Gu Yu slowly released him, slipping his hands loosely into his pockets. “You’re welcome.”
Yu Ruan hastily retreated several steps, flustered.
He tugged awkwardly at his slightly disheveled collar, covering the still-warm gland at the back of his neck. After a moment of hesitation, he murmured, “Why are you here?”
“Just came to check on things,” Gu Yu replied indifferently. “Need help?”
“N-No, it’s fine.” Yu Ruan said instinctively. But when he looked up and met those dark blue eyes, his resolve faltered, and he admitted dejectedly, “Maybe.”
Gu Yu didn’t press the issue, instead tilting his chin slightly toward the robot. “Try again.”
After a moment of hesitation, Yu Ruan walked over and restarted the program. Gu Yu found a chair and sat down, his gaze calmly sweeping over Yu Ruan as he waited for him to repeat the dance from earlier.
The pressure was palpable.
Since the other party had made a special trip, Yu Ruan naturally felt too embarrassed to let him leave. After a moment of thought, he had no choice but to suppress his embarrassment, took the robot’s hand, and danced the same poorly executed routine once again.
A harsh sound effect blared as a flurry of red lights flashed wildly. Unsurprisingly, he ended up kicking the robot’s leg again.
Yu Ruan: “…”
Utterly defeated.
“Your rhythm is off.”
Suddenly, Gu Yu’s voice sounded once more. He ambled over slowly, his gaze lowered to Yu Ruan’s calf. With the tip of his shoe, he gently nudged Yu Ruan’s foot back slightly. “Follow your partner’s rhythm. You were rushing just now.”
Yu Ruan blinked in confusion.
Dancing was truly his weakness not just coordinating his limbs, but even understanding the instructions Gu Yu had just given him felt like a struggle.
Seemingly sensing Yu Ruan’s bewilderment, Gu Yu fell silent for a moment. A few seconds later, he pressed the restart button on the back of the robot’s neck and moved it away from Yu Ruan.
“Come here,” he said calmly.
Yu Ruan walked over, unsure of what to expect, only to find himself enveloped in an embrace that carried a faint scent of lime.
Instantly, the heat in his face surged like a wildfire, spreading rapidly. His breath hitched, and his scalp tingled with nervousness. He could only stand there dumbly, allowing the other to take his hand and rest a palm lightly against the small of his back.
Long, slender fingers gently settled on his waist, cool to the touch, yet the palm felt scorching hot. Through the thin fabric of his clothes, he could almost feel the warmth of those fingertips grazing his skin, and his own fingers trembled involuntarily in response.
The cool voice spoke again. Gu Yu lowered his gaze and murmured softly, “Tighten your waist.”
“…” Yu Ruan pressed his lips together and silently tensed his waistline.
“Bring your leg closer,” Gu Yu continued. “Lift your head, and don’t lose focus.” His tone paused abruptly at this point. He looked down at the flustered Omega in his arms, his breathing growing slightly heavier.
“Look at me.”
