The Cannon Fodder Became the Empire's Beloved Omega - Chapter 35
Yu Ruan was taken aback.
Gu Yu’s tone was calm, as if he was already accustomed to such situations. But hearing those words couldn’t help but make one feel a little uncomfortable.
He nodded softly and murmured, “Mm, I understand.”
Upon hearing this response, which seemed to carry a hint of inexplicable pity, Gu Yu’s footsteps paused slightly. It felt as if something had gently brushed against his heart, making him involuntarily shift his gaze toward Yu Ruan.
He parted his lips, about to say something more, when Cheng Mu, who had just finished handling an emergency, strode over and sighed, “I’m telling you, next time you want to mess with someone like this, could you at least pick a less crowded place.”
So the words that had been on the tip of his tongue were swallowed back.
Gu Yu averted his gaze and said quietly, “Isn’t it good to indulge his desire for attention?”
Cheng Mu was instantly rendered speechless by this remark.
After a moment of thought, he had to admit there was a sliver of logic to it. Besides, the guy had brought it upon himself, and getting that pent-up frustration off his chest felt pretty satisfying.
Truly, it takes a villain to deal with a villain.
After a brief sigh, Cheng Mu patted the person in front of him on the shoulder and grinned at Yu Ruan. “Hey, congratulations on your victory today, Ruan Ruan. How about we go grab some bubble tea to celebrate?”
Bubble tea?
Before Yu Ruan could even process the suggestion, he felt the atmosphere around them shift abruptly. Instantly, Gu Yu’s previously indifferent expression turned icy cold. With a single glance, he exuded a chilling aura, like an autumn wind sweeping away fallen leaves.
Thanks to the help from the previous speech, Yu Ruan’s living environment had visibly improved at a rapid pace.
Originally, the students at Nebula University had been largely indifferent to him, treating Yu Ruan as if he were invisible. However, after listening to his earlier speech, their attitudes had noticeably softened.
Now, when he went out, he occasionally encountered one or two people who would proactively greet him.
Perhaps because they had been caught speaking ill of him last time, the more active members in the class chat didn’t get along very well with Yu Ruan. However, since Yu Ruan’s elective courses differed greatly from theirs and they rarely attended the same classes, there was little opportunity for friction.
Yu Ruan carried his bag to the next class and casually took a seat.
In the distance, a small group of students had gathered, sitting in a row and whispering among themselves. As he entered the classroom, a fashionably dressed girl at the front raised her eyebrows and raised her voice, “Your Highness, have you chosen a dance partner yet?”
Yu Ruan paused, turning in confusion toward the source of the voice. The girl tossed her long hair and gave him a charming smile. “If you haven’t chosen one yet, you could consider me?”
“…” Perplexed by her words, Yu Ruan hesitated for a moment before asking, “Sorry! I’d like to ask, what’s this about a dance partner?”
Given the context of her earlier statement, he didn’t think there was any hidden meaning behind her words.
Sure enough, the girl looked surprised. “You don’t know? It’s a dance party that’s become popular at Nebula University in recent years. It’s held every academic year and is very well-liked among the students.”
Yu Ruan: “…” He truly had no idea.
Kenan Star was quite backward and, in the original story, could only be considered a beginner’s map. Excluding the information he’d gleaned from TV dramas and novels, he really had no understanding of such things.
Seeing his expression, the other person burst into a soft laugh, seemingly charmed by his bewildered look. Those around them couldn’t help but chuckle quietly and began explaining in hushed tones.
After a lengthy explanation, Yu Ruan finally understood what they meant by “the dance.”
Since the reform of the admission system at Nebula University, a dance had been held annually. The event was open to students of all grades, aiming to foster relationships and enhance communication among them.
Initially, students were dismissive of the idea. However, after Nebula hosted its first dance, they quickly changed their minds and grew fond of it.
The reason was simple: the university’s dance was vastly different from the flashy parties elsewhere. Its unique and unconventional approach piqued the students’ interest.
Most students at Nebula were Alphas, who generally had little interest in dancing with others of the same gender. However, the team-based games that followed the dance were highly popular among them.
The rewards were great, the challenges were mentally stimulating, and the excitement was palpable. Moreover, with two Alphas teaming up, their innate competitive instincts made the contests incredibly intense. Even as a spectator, it was highly entertaining.
The “dance partner” mentioned earlier by the long-haired Alpha actually referred to a teammate for the latter part of the event.
Yu Ruan thanked her but politely declined the invitation. It wasn’t that he disliked her; he simply wasn’t comfortable partnering with someone he didn’t know well.
Fortunately, she didn’t seem to mind. She gave him a playful smile and resumed her lively discussion with her friends.
Just then, the class bell rang. Yu Ruan snapped out of his thoughts and focused on the lesson.
That evening, as expected, he received a mass notification from the university.
Staring at the word “Dance” in the subject line, Yu Ruan hesitated for a moment before finally making a call.
Considering that Xie Zhi, as the Chief Secretary, was likely very busy, Yu Ruan decided to seek help from Yi Tu instead. He hoped Yi Tu could offer some advice, especially since he wasn’t particularly skilled at dancing.
After sending the message, Yu Ruan put away his light brain and began reviewing the day’s lessons.
The reply came swiftly.
Having not been in contact for a while, Yi Tu was clearly thrilled to hear from him. He enthusiastically assured Yu Ruan that he would not disappoint and eagerly asked what kind of teacher he had in mind.
Yu Ruan paused, thinking for a moment before saying, “Could you send a robot over?”
He recalled that there were specialized robots designed to help beginners practice dancing. Though they were quite expensive, the convenience of being able to practice anytime, anywhere made them an ideal choice.
With his current packed schedule, a robot seemed like the better option.
Yi Tu was momentarily speechless.
He never expected that Yu Ruan’s call would be to request a robot. With a touch of melancholy, he agreed, thinking to himself: His Highness Yu is such a thoughtful and kind-hearted soul, always considering the well-being of his subordinates and not wanting to burden them.
How truly touching!
Wiping away a tear, Yi Tu, filled with mixed emotions, pulled up the procurement bureau’s number and made the call.
The delivery arrived even sooner than Yu Ruan had anticipated.
The notification for the arrival of the logistics shipment came through the neural communicator. Since he had no classes in the afternoon, Yu Ruan headed downstairs right away. He planned to move the robot he’d ordered from Itu to the training room, intending to use his free time for some intensive practice.
But as soon as he reached the ground floor, Yu Ruan was stunned by the alarming scene outside the door.
The box in the delivery robot’s arms was even taller than Yu Ruan himself, tilting the poor little robot precariously, almost toppling it over.
Yu Ruan hurried over to help steady the box. Then, he saw the robot’s indicator light blink as it began operating, assisting him in moving the box toward its destination.
Together, the human and the robot made their way to the elevator, waiting respectfully for it to descend.
The red floor numbers flickered, slowly descending to the first floor. With a soft ding, the elevator doors opened, revealing two figures that Yu Ruan hadn’t expected to see.
It was Gu Yu and Cheng Mu.
As the elevator doors slid open, Cheng Mu was immediately taken aback by the mountain-like delivery box. Staring wide-eyed at the vaguely familiar silhouette behind the box, he choked for a moment before blurting out, “Ruan Ruan?”
Yu Ruan peeked out from behind the box. “What’s up?”
“What are you doing?” Cheng Mu could hardly believe his eyes. “Moving a mountain?”
“Ah, this.” Yu Ruan said, slightly embarrassed. “It’s a delivery. I didn’t expect it to be this big, I’m pretty shocked too.”
Gu Yu remained silent. He walked over quietly, helped Yu Ruan stabilize the box, then tilted his chin toward Cheng Mu. “Get out.”
Cheng Mu quickly stepped out of the elevator to make space for the two.
Not wanting to delay, Yu Ruan gave Gu Yu an apologetic nod and pushed the entire box into the elevator with effort. Gu Yu helped him move the other side in as well, then stepped inside himself, leaning casually against the wall as they waited for the elevator.
Noticing Yu Ruan’s questioning look, Gu Yu said calmly, “You can’t move this by yourself.”
Hearing this, Cheng Mu squeezed in too. “Let me help as well. Three people are better than two.”
The training room was on the second floor of the dormitory, not far at all. By the time they finished speaking, the elevator had already arrived. Together, they maneuvered the large box into the training room and carefully set it down. Cheng Mu finally let out a sigh of relief and couldn’t resist asking, “What on earth is this? Such a huge box, it’s kind of terrifying, isn’t it?”
Yu Ruan, using a knife to open the packaging, felt a bit awkward at the question. “It’s a tutoring robot.”
Cheng Mu: “???”
Yu Ruan explained sheepishly, “There’s a dance coming up soon, but I’m not very good at dancing. It’s not very convenient to ask a teacher for help, so I had someone order this for me.”
“Dancing?” Cheng Mu was momentarily confused, but after glancing at the indifferent Gu Yu beside him, he quickly caught on and couldn’t help but tease, “Hey, for something like this, instead of turning to a robot, you should just ask your Brother Gu. The pride of the nobility, guaranteed quality, he knows every dance step there is, definitely way better than any robot you could buy.”
