The Cannon Fodder Became the Empire's Beloved Omega - Chapter 28
It felt somewhat familiar, but he couldn’t quite recall why.
Yu Ruan racked his brains for a long time but still couldn’t come up with any leads. In the end, he decided to give up and let the matter go.
He handed the number tag to the other person and said, “Excuse me.”
“Alright,” the shop assistant glanced at the number and gave him a slight smile, pointing to the machine nearby. “Could you please scan it here?”
Yu Ruan nodded, swiped the tag as instructed, and then stood to the side, waiting quietly.
But the earlier question still bothered him. Taking advantage of the waiting time, Yu Ruan couldn’t help but sneak a few glances at the other person, trying to figure out the source of that subtle sense of familiarity.
Before long, even Gu Yu, who was standing beside him, noticed how frequently Yu Ruan was looking up.
He tilted his head slightly and gave Yu Ruan a questioning look.
Seeing this, Yu Ruan quickly averted his gaze. “It’s nothing. I was just a little curious.”
“?”
Yu Ruan thought for a moment, too embarrassed to tell the truth. “It’s my first time seeing this, so it feels quite novel.”
Just then, the shop assistant working in the distance suddenly turned around and smiled at Yu Ruan again. “Is that so? From your reaction earlier, I thought there was something strange on my face.”
Yu Ruan, caught red-handed: “…” QAQ Help! This person is really sharp!
Embarrassed, he immediately apologized, “Sorry, I hope I didn’t offend you.”
“It’s fine.” The other person expertly packed the milk tea, a smile playing on his lips. “Ever since I started working here, different customers have told me every day that I look familiar. You don’t need to feel shy.”
Yu Ruan was too flustered to speak.
He hesitated for a long time, but it was the person beside him who broke the silence first.
Gu Yu asked indifferently, “Is it ready?”
Hearing this, the shop assistant smiled at him as well. “Just a moment, please. There are two more orders to pack, so you’ll have to wait a little longer.”
Gu Yu lifted his eyelids slightly and stared coldly at him.
The other person seemed to pay no mind as he shifted his gaze back to Yu Ruan. The corners of his lips curled upward, as if completely unfazed by the chilling aura emanating from beside him. He took the initiative to strike up a conversation with Yu Ruan. “Let me guess, hmm… you’re probably an Omega too?”Actually, I caught a faint scent of inhibitor earlier,” the other person said quietly. “Since I’m also an Omega, I’m quite sensitive to that kind of smell. I hope you don’t feel offended.”
As he spoke, he seemed to realize something. “Ah, sorry! It’s just that there aren’t many Omegas around here, so I got a little too excited.”
“After all, Nebula University is right next door,” he hesitated, “There are just too many Alphas there.”
Gu Yu looked at him coolly and repeated, “Is it ready?”
The other person paused briefly, chuckled softly, and then turned to Yu Ruan apologetically. “Just one more order, please wait a moment.”
Gu Yu’s brows furrowed slightly.
Seeing his displeased expression, the other person immediately lowered his head. “Ah, I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean to target Alphas like you. If I made you uncomfortable, I apologize.”
Yu Ruan glanced between the two of them. For some reason, he felt as if countless undercurrents were surging between them, carrying a distinct sense of confrontation.
At that moment, the last milk tea was packed. Gu Yu ignored the other’s half-provocative remark, simply took the takeout box, and glanced sideways at Yu Ruan: “Let’s go back.”
Yu Ruan looked at Gu Yu, then at the shop assistant who was eagerly watching him, and nodded with some difficulty.
He gave an apologetic smile to the familiar-looking shop assistant: “I have to go now. See you next time.”
“Wait.” The other suddenly called out to him, smiling brightly. “I feel like we have a lot of fate.” My name is Si Yuxiao. I just moved to this neighborhood not long ago, and I’m very happy to meet you. How about it? Want to be friends? I can treat you to milk tea every day.”
Hearing this, Gu Yu immediately turned around.
Yu Ruan blinked in confusion.
What was this person trying to do? Being so enthusiastic at the first meeting?
Hesitating for a moment, Yu Ruan was just thinking about how to politely decline when the person beside him, as if reading his mind, coolly interjected: “No need.”
Yu Ruan immediately shot him a grateful look.
Si Yuxiao was momentarily taken aback, seemingly deep in thought. After a while, he smiled at Yu Ruan with a hint of understanding. “It’s alright, I was indeed too forward. Let’s talk about this again next time we meet.”
With that, he turned to Gu Yu, curling his lips into a smirk. “Have a safe trip.”
Gu Yu’s expression turned slightly colder. He stared at Si Yuxiao’s smile for a moment before slowly withdrawing his gaze, taking Yu Ruan’s hand, and stepping out of the milk tea shop.
Si Yuxiao’s overly handsome smiling face was left far behind. Only when the sign of 9PM was no longer in sight did Gu Yu’s expression brighten slightly, returning to his usual nonchalant demeanor.
Still, the air around him felt heavy, as if the accumulated grumpiness of a whole day’s worth of sleep deprivation was on the verge of erupting.
Yu Ruan suspected he might not have slept well the night before.
Remembering how Gu Yu had stayed up all night helping him with his speech draft, Yu Ruan felt a bit guilty and asked with concern, “Are you okay?”
Gu Yu tilted his head slightly: “?”
“You don’t look too well. Did you not rest properly yesterday?” he asked thoughtfully. “Do you need to go back and rest some more? It’s fine, the welcome party is still a while away, there’s no rush.”
Whether it was his imagination or not, Yu Ruan felt that after he said this, the person in front of him seemed even more displeased.
He looked at Gu Yu with confusion, the two of them silently staring at each other for a moment without a word.
After a while, Gu Yu spoke first: “It’s not sleep deprivation.”
Then what is it?!
Yu Ruan grew even more puzzled. He thought hard for a long time but couldn’t figure it out. Tentatively, he asked, “Then, did I upset you? If there’s something I did wrong, you can just tell me directly.”
Yu Ruan was open-minded about it: Friends should communicate openly. If there’s any unresolved issue, it’s best to address it right away, sort it out, and avoid bigger problems in the future.
Unexpectedly, as soon as he said this, the person in front of him made a face as if he was holding something back.
Staring at the sincere-looking Omega before him, Gu Yu stewed for a moment before averting his gaze: “It’s nothing.”
Yu Ruan: “…” Then why are you still giving me the cold shoulder?
Yu Ruan was utterly bewildered. Lost in thought, the two of them walked back to the rooftop garden. From afar, they spotted Cheng Mu standing outside, eagerly looking out. As soon as he caught sight of them, he quickly waved and asked with a grin, “How did it go?”
Gu Yu, his face stern, tossed the items into Cheng Mu’s hands and strode past him without a word, heading straight into the main hall.
Cheng Mu was dumbfounded.
He stared, mouth agape in an “O” shape, at Gu Yu’s retreating figure, completely baffled as to who could have possibly provoked the temperamental young master.
After a moment of pondering, Cheng Mu sidled up to Yu Ruan and whispered, “What’s wrong with him?”
Yu Ruan thought for a moment, concluding that Gu Yu was probably still nursing his morning grumpiness but was too embarrassed to admit it. He put on a mysterious expression and reassured Cheng Mu, “Maybe he didn’t sleep well.”
Cheng Mu stared at the distant sunset: It’s almost evening, and he still hasn’t slept well??
He felt nothing but utter desolation.
Yu Ruan entered the main hall to find Gu Yu waiting by the elevator. Seeing him approach, Gu Yu reached out to hold the door open. Yu Ruan hurried inside, murmuring a quiet “thank you,” and stood beside him.
As the elevator doors slowly closed, Yu Ruan watched the numbers gradually change when a quiet remark drifted from beside him: “If you run into them again, just ignore them.”
Yu Ruan was taken aback and instinctively glanced at Gu Yu.
The other wore an indifferent expression, as if he hadn’t been the one to speak. After a moment’s hesitation, Yu Ruan asked, “What do you mean by that?”
The question seemed to stump Gu Yu. A thoughtful look flickered across his brow before he averted his gaze. “Nothing.”
It was just a momentary lapse in controlling his emotions.
Yu Ruan was left even more confused. Just as he was about to press for details, the elevator chimed. Gu Yu stepped out, and Yu Ruan quickly followed him into the dining area.
The previously messy spots had been completely tidied up. To Yu Ruan’s surprise, Han Ran had already arrived at the dorm and was waiting for the two of them to return.
Once the last resident of the dorm finally showed up, she grandly declared the start of the so-called “welcome party.”
Although the gathering consisted of only four people, with two lively individuals present, there was no worry about awkward silences. After chatting with them for a bit, Yu Ruan soon noticed the one person who seemed detached from the group. Gu Yu stood by the window, eyes half-lowered, one hand tucked into his pants pocket, exuding an aura that screamed “stay away.”
After a moment’s thought, Yu Ruan picked up a small plate of snacks and walked over to him.
Gu Yu’s dark blue eyes shifted slightly as he turned his gaze toward Yu Ruan.
“No one else has touched these,” Yu Ruan said, picking up a pair of chopsticks to offer him one. “I think they suit your taste. Would you like to try one?”
The glutinous rice flour had been steamed until fully cooked, then pan-fried to a light golden brown, drizzled with a thick, sweet brown sugar syrup, and gently rolled in soybean powder. The first bite offered a slight crispness, followed by the delicate sweetness of the glutinous rice mingling with the rich syrup. Soft and chewy without sticking to the teeth, it was sure to appeal to his preferences.
Gu Yu stared fixedly him, the emotions in his eyes shifting continuously. After a long while, he slightly parted his lips, bit onto the chopsticks Yu Ruan had extended before him, and slowly took the glutinous rice cake coated in syrup into his mouth.
“How is it?” Yu Ruan looked at him with eager anticipation.
The Alpha’s gaze darkened slightly as he unhurriedly chewed the food in his mouth, swallowing it at an extremely slow pace. Perhaps the overly sweet syrup had soothed his temporarily irritable mood. After a pause, he let out an “Mm” and said, “It’s delicious.”
“I definitely wouldn’t lie to you.”
Yu Ruan was quite happy that something he made could be praised as delicious. Delighted, he picked up another piece with his chopsticks and held it to the other’s lips. “Want another?”
For some reason, Yu Ruan felt that the young master looked rather adorable while eating. It easily stirred an impulse in people to keep feeding him, giving a great sense of accomplishment.

“After Rebirth, I Became the Center of Attention [Transmigrating into a Book]” by Su Muqi
Synopsis:
Guan Heng transmigrated into an eighteen-line cannon fodder character in an entertainment industry harem novel.
He worked diligently and tread carefully, yet still ended up with a bad ending.
After rebirth, he reflected deeply on his experiences and decided to stay away from those dangerous figures. Unexpectedly, after rebirth, he automatically inherited the favorability he had accumulated in his previous life.
Guan Heng suddenly went from an eighteen-line cannon fodder to the center of attention, surrounded by admirers.
The cold and distant golden screenwriter childhood friend constantly created opportunities to appear together and even stopped his sharp tongue: “The perfect ending of this script is all thanks to Xiao Heng’s inspiration.”The head of the agency, whom he used to see less than once a year, now visited the set daily: ‘Come try the local specialties I brought back.'””
The top idol junior, who was only nominally his “brother” in the industry, constantly pestered him for collaborations: “Thank you, senior, for guiding my acting.”
Most shockingly, the icy movie star he had pursued for seven years, who never had any scandals now chased after him relentlessly: “Give me a chance.”
CP fans spun, screamed, jumped, and exploded as if it were a carnival.
Guan Heng: “Get lost, get lost, get lost. What CP? If you have time to ship people, you might as well practice your drawing or play a few rounds of games.”
