The Blind Alpha Coveted by the Frail Beauty Omega - Chapter 20.1
Their relationship was not one where they could do such things.
Sleep with her?
After losing her sight, Wei Jiangxue almost suspected she had gone deaf as well. Otherwise, how could she have heard such ambiguous words from Mi Ruian’s mouth?
But she quickly realized that the words meant Mi Ruian was willing to share half of the bed with her. That phrasing was likely just a slip of the tongue; the original intention was simply to help Wei Jiangxue out.
Thinking of the sofa that was so narrow it was difficult even to turn over, and then thinking of the double beds the landlord had provided for each bedroom…
Wei Jiangxue said, “That would be so embarrassing,” but her body honestly moved toward Mi Ruian’s room.
Hmph, anyway, she could take this opportunity to build some presence around Mi Ruian, just to annoy her.
“Your quilt is also wet; it probably won’t be comfortable to sleep under. I have an extra down duvet you can use.”
Mi Ruian had even arranged new bedding for her.
Wei Jiangxue really had to admire the protagonist’s thoughtfulness. One had to remember that their current relationship could not yet be considered that of “good friends.”
Although they called each other “roommate” this and “roommate” that, Wei Jiangxue had complained to 233 in private that, in her view, the relationship between this cannon fodder and the protagonist should be called “room-enemies” instead.
The toiletries were brought over by Mi Ruian as well. As if she was worried, while Wei Jiangxue was washing up in the bathroom, Mi Ruian would come over every once in a while to ask if she needed help.
Wei Jiangxue felt like her every move was being watched, making her back feel a bit prickly. She had no choice but to speed up her washing.
Once Wei Jiangxue said she was finished, Mi Ruian opened the bathroom door again and carefully helped her to the bedside—where two quilts had already divided the bed into two halves. Wei Jiangxue slept on the left.
“You should get some rest early.” Leaving behind these words, Mi Ruian went to the bathroom.
Wei Jiangxue wasn’t sleepy yet, and since she was occupying Mi Ruian’s bed, it felt like being a guest; it was better to wait for the host.
She opened the “listening to books” function of the Lujiang Literature City app on her phone, played a farming novel she had previously bookmarked, and set a timer for it to turn off after half an hour.
“XX received an inheritance left by her aunt; she will inherit an island…”
The wind howled outside the window. The voice of the audiobook was set to a moderate level according to her habit, just enough to cover the noise outside. Wei Jiangxue slowed her breathing, preparing to drift into sleep.
The bed shook slightly, and the spot beside Wei Jiangxue sank a little; she knew Mi Ruian had returned.
Since she was taking up the other person’s bed after all, Wei Jiangxue whispered, “Goodnight.”
The person beside her paused for a moment and responded softly, “Goodnight. There is a heavy rain warning tonight, and the temperature will drop significantly. Keep yourself covered so you don’t catch a cold.”
Hearing this, Wei Jiangxue nodded and pulled the quilt up, tucking it under her shoulders, leaving only her head exposed.
Seeing her wrapped up like a zongzi (rice dumpling), Mi Ruian shook her head in amusement and lay down quietly.
Wei Jiangxue’s headphones leaked sound, and the room was so quiet that Mi Ruian ended up listening along to the process of XX inheriting the island and reclaiming the land.
As the breathing of the person beside her gradually became long and steady, the audiobook function automatically turned off. Mi Ruian reached out and took off Wei Jiangxue’s headphones for her, lest the girl feel uncomfortable from being pressed against them in the middle of the night.
Outside, the wind continued to whistle, interspersed with the noise of raindrops hitting the windows and walls. Later on, the rain became torrential. But Wei Jiangxue slept soundly, completely undisturbed.
It wasn’t until a deafening thunderclap shattered Wei Jiangxue’s sweet dream that her hands and feet jerked, and she suddenly woke up.
Everywhere her perception could reach was pitch black. The thunder continued, making it hard to distinguish the boundary between reality and illusion.
Wei Jiangxue stared blankly for a while before remembering that she had traveled to another world. She was used to sleeping alone, but now there was a clear source of heat beside her, which should be the mission protagonist, Mi Ruian. Her memory returned: because the upstairs tenant’s house leaked into Wei Jiangxue’s room, Mi Ruian kindly took her in, and the two were now squeezed into the same bed.
To say “squeezed” wasn’t exactly accurate; Wei Jiangxue vaguely remembered that the distance between them hadn’t been this close before.
So, after falling asleep, had Mi Ruian moved toward her?
But the other person’s slightly rapid breathing indicated that this was not a subconscious movement. Mi Ruian was clearly awake; it could only be that she had actively pressed closer.
Wei Jiangxue was surprised for a moment, and then it clicked: Mi Ruian… could she be afraid of thunder?
Her sister, Wei Meng, had this habit as well. On rainy nights with thunder, she would sneak into Wei Jiangxue’s or their grandmother’s bed and hold onto them tightly, simply because she was afraid of the sound of thunder.
233 hadn’t introduced much information about Mi Ruian to Wei Jiangxue. If it weren’t for the thunderstorm today, Wei Jiangxue probably wouldn’t have known this until she left this small world.
In the words of 233: Is knowing about Mi Ruian useful for the mission? They only came here for one purpose—to add unpleasant experiences to the protagonist’s life, so that Mi Ruian could accumulate enough hatred to facilitate the subsequent plot.
Other than that, Wei Jiangxue wasn’t supposed to do anything not written in the mission book.
But…
Wei Jiangxue hesitated for a moment and silently said “sorry” to 233 in her heart. The latter was likely offline and did not respond to her.
Wei Jiangxue moved a bit closer to Mi Ruian and felt the back of the person huddled under the quilt: “Were you woken up by the thunder too? I can’t sleep. Can you talk to me?”
A muffled roll of thunder exploded in the sky. The sound wasn’t particularly loud, yet it caused Mi Ruian’s body to tense up imperceptibly for a moment. Ever since she was a child, she had loathed these uncontrollable, sudden loud noises; they reminded her of some unpleasant childhood memories.
She subconsciously curled her body up, holding her breath, waiting for the aftershocks of the thunder to pass.
The second flash of lightning seemed capable of splitting the thick curtains. From the light leaking through the gaps, Mi Ruian felt the momentum—this would be a very loud thunderclap.
Mi Ruian’s fingers silently tightened around the corner of the quilt. Her reason told her there was nothing to fear, but her body’s instinctive reaction was hard to restrain. Very slowly, she moved toward the other side of the bed. The steady breathing and warm body temperature of the person beside her seemed to have a fatal attraction, drawing her to seek a sense of security.
Just as she got close and could almost feel Wei Jiangxue’s temperature, the thunder exploded!
This time, Wei Jiangxue seemed to have been disturbed as well.
Before Mi Ruian could react, a pair of warm arms naturally reached over, accurately found her position, and with a gentle pull, drew her stiffened self into an embrace smelling of freesia.
Mi Ruian was completely stunned.
Her cheek was pressed against Wei Jiangxue’s thin pajamas; she could clearly feel the other’s steady heartbeat and warm body temperature. This embrace… carried a posture of unquestionable protection.
Immediately afterward, the other person’s chest vibrated; she seemed to say something near the top of Mi Ruian’s head.
While Mi Ruian was still analyzing those words, Wei Jiangxue spoke again, her voice clear this time: “…Or I’ll talk, and you listen?”
Mi Ruian was no fool and quickly understood. Wei Jiangxue had likely been woken by the thunder, noticed she was awake, guessed that she hated thunder, and wanted to comfort her. But out of consideration for human’s fragile pride, she used a tactful way of phrasing it.
“Okay.” Mi Ruian looked up, staring into Wei Jiangxue’s blank eyes, and agreed very crisply.
This calm and gentle side of Wei Jiangxue was something Mi Ruian rarely saw.
Even when she appeared in the live-streaming room as the top donor, “Mi,” Wei Jiangxue would place herself in a lower position and do her best to coax the “benefactor” Mi Ruian on the other end.
Not to mention in the rental house, where Wei Jiangxue was always harbouring bad ideas and would occasionally snap at Mi Ruian. If she got even a few pleasant looks, Mi Ruian would suspect she had run into great luck that day.
Had Wei Jiangxue taken the wrong medicine, or had Mi Ruian’s brain been damaged by the lightning? How did Wei Jiangxue suddenly change her personality in the middle of the night?
Mi Ruian carefully adjusted herself to a more comfortable position, burying herself deeper into the other’s embrace.
Since Wei Jiangxue was willing to give her such preferential treatment at this moment, how could Mi Ruian let such an opportunity slip by?
Another explosive thunderclap sounded, making one wonder if the world was coming to an end. But this time, Mi Ruian wasn’t so repulsed.
Because Wei Jiangxue had anticipated it; before the thunder sounded, she covered Mi Ruian’s ears with her hands.
“It’s okay, don’t be afraid.”
Mi Ruian stared at her blankly, then looked away: “Who’s afraid…”
“Fine, I’m afraid, so I’m comforting myself.” Wei Jiangxue laughed softly. “Let me think, what should we talk about? How about telling me what kind of makeup and styling you plan to do for me later?”
“Those are confidential for now, but I definitely won’t make you look ugly.” In fact, from the first moment she saw Wei Jiangxue wearing her clothes, Mi Ruian had already come up with countless ways to dress her.
Even if Wei Jiangxue hadn’t actively sought her out to be a stylist, Mi Ruian would have used the identity of the benefactor “Mi” to guide Wei Jiangxue’s appearance.
Wei Jiangxue herself couldn’t see the effect of what she wore, but every time Mi Ruian saw it, she felt very satisfied; it was the collection of her own aesthetics. Every bit of Wei Jiangxue was being decorated into the image Mi Ruian liked most.
It was as if everything about Wei Jiangxue could be controlled by Mi Ruian.
Mi Ruian was very satisfied with this state, and she didn’t stop to think about what kind of sentiment lay behind this psychology.
She only knew clearly that she wanted Wei Jiangxue to stay by her side.
After only a moment of dazing, Mi Ruian’s sharp senses caught a hint of something unusual.
Wei Jiangxue’s pheromones seemed a bit off.
That quiet fragrance faintly revealed a sense of restlessness. They no longer hovered peacefully around Wei Jiangxue but became… thick, winding up in threads, carrying a higher temperature than usual and an indescribable aggressiveness.
This only happened when an Alpha’s rut was approaching.
Mi Ruian’s nose brushed against Wei Jiangxue’s neck. The latter seemed completely unaware, having no idea that her rut was near.
Mi Ruian had seen many Alphas in their rut—some in documentaries watched during physiology classes, others sent by her enemies.
Those fellows kept saying, “Omegas can’t resist Alphas, let alone Alphas who have lost all reason and possess only instinct during their rut,” hoping to tame Mi Ruian through that.
It was just that every one of those so-called uniquely talented Alphas ended up kneeling before Mi Ruian like a pig.
Back then, she had extinguished her last trace of kindness and no longer pitied those fools controlled by pheromones, believing Alphas had devolved into irredeemable beasts.
But now, sniffing the freesia scent swirling around Wei Jiangxue, she felt lucky again that Alphas were single-celled organisms controlled by pheromones.
If it were Wei Jiangxue falling into a rut, what kind of expression would she show?
Mi Ruian extended a finger, stopping less than a centimeter from Wei Jiangxue’s face, tracing her features in the air.
