The Blind Alpha Coveted by the Frail Beauty Omega - Chapter 19
“My bed is very large. Come here and sleep with me.”
Mi Ruian licked her lips, hiding her own discomfort. “It’s leaking? Let me see.”
Wei Jiangxue wasn’t lying, and she certainly didn’t know how to lie. The room really was leaking; the wall had already been soaked to a dark gray, and water was dripping from parts of the ceiling. As luck would have it, it had soaked Wei Jiangxue’s bed. The quilt she had managed to rescue was alright—only part of it was wet—but it would certainly be uncomfortable to sleep under.
“It’s likely caused by the tenant upstairs. I’ll take you up there later to demand an explanation.”
Mi Ruian frowned as she went to find several basins and buckets to catch the dripping water, preventing it from ruining Wei Jiangxue’s desk and plush rug.
Wei Jiangxue stood obediently to the side. Hearing the sounds from the bedroom, she knew Mi Ruian was helping her tidy up. She was sensible enough not to go in and add to the chaos.
Her conscience was undergoing a massive trial. No matter what, Wei Jiangxue couldn’t bring herself to say anything sarcastic to Mi Ruian. As for Mi Ruian’s suggestion, Wei Jiangxue also felt they should go upstairs; just what kind of situation would cause water to leak from the floor above down to theirs?
She sat down by the sofa and waited for Mi Ruian to finish, while she mentally listed several possibilities.
Either a pipe upstairs had burst, or someone had forgotten to turn off a faucet, causing the water to overflow from the sink, spread across the room, and seep down to the floor below.
The tenant next door was probably suffering from the water disaster as well. Through the concrete wall, Wei Jiangxue could hear the other party slamming their door open with a thud, causing the security door of their own unit to shudder.
The footsteps were a heavy thump-thump-thump; clearly, the person was agitated to the extreme.
Wei Jiangxue’s heart skipped a beat. She remembered that a Beta woman lived next door, someone who left early and returned late for work. Since arriving in this world, Wei Jiangxue hadn’t had much interaction with this Beta; she had only heard her arguing with another tenant because they had dumped trash in front of her door.
The Beta had a fiery temper and wasn’t afraid to say anything when she was cursing someone out. When Wei Jiangxue heard her back then, she felt as if the woman was about to stab someone the next second.
Wei Jiangxue hadn’t dared to speak to her, but the Beta had actually struck up a conversation once downstairs, asking Wei Jiangxue if she needed help carrying things up.
“Mi Ruian, let’s go upstairs now. I heard the person next door going up too.” Wei Jiangxue couldn’t sit still and eventually called out to Mi Ruian.
She was worried the neighbor’s temper would get the better of her and cause an incident, which wouldn’t end well for anyone.
Mi Ruian surveyed Wei Jiangxue’s bedroom. She had moved everything that could be moved to a dry spot and placed containers under all the leaks.
“Let’s go.”
Mi Ruian led the way, with Wei Jiangxue following behind, using her blind cane to feel the path.
Several times, Wei Jiangxue’s cane poked Mi Ruian’s heel.
Mi Ruian stopped, turned around, and grabbed the cane in Wei Jiangxue’s hand, staring at the latter’s face, momentarily lost for words.
“You…”
Wei Jiangxue asked guiltily, “What’s wrong?”
She deliberately pretended to be ignorant. After all, her previous action was a sudden whim; since annoying the protagonist was a core setting for a “cannon fodder Alpha,” Wei Jiangxue wouldn’t miss any chance to potentially lower her OOC (Out Of Character) value.
Mi Ruian looked at the cowering Wei Jiangxue with a mix of anger and amusement, wondering if the girl realized how bad she was at acting.
With that forced look of composure, who would believe Wei Jiangxue had done it by accident?
“Stop. I’ll lead you. Don’t use the cane.”
An exasperated Mi Ruian wouldn’t indulge her. She confiscated the cane and took Wei Jiangxue’s hand, leading her up the stairs step by step.
Wei Jiangxue stuck her tongue out sheepishly but remained silent, letting Mi Ruian lead. Mi Ruian’s hand was even colder than hers; pressed together, it felt like holding a block of ice.
However, Wei Jiangxue didn’t find it uncomfortable. she secretly felt the hand, marveling at how smooth and soft Mi Ruian’s skin was.
Finally, she simply used both of her hands to wrap around Mi Ruian’s hand to warm it up.
Mi Ruian didn’t seem to notice Wei Jiangxue’s small movements, focusing instead on guiding her.
When they arrived at the upstairs apartment suspected of leaking, the Beta neighbor was already there, loudly berating the woman at the door: “…Are you trying to kill someone? Do you have any idea that water from your place leaked into mine? My wall is completely soaked! If you don’t settle this today, don’t even think about sleeping!”
As expected, a fight had broken out. Wei Jiangxue felt awkward for a moment; after following Mi Ruian over, she stood there not knowing how to interrupt them.
In reality, it was a one-sided venting of rage by the Beta. The other woman was being scolded so badly she could only repeatedly say “I’m sorry.” Wei Jiangxue learned from System 233 that the person living above her was an Omega living alone with her daughter.
“Can’t you say something new? Tell me, how are you going to fix this?” the Beta asked relentlessly.
“I…” The Omega seemed either dazed from the scolding or truly didn’t know how to handle it. She stammered, unable to finish a single sentence.
This behavior made the Beta even angrier. Work was already annoying enough, and now she had to deal with a bizarre neighbor flooding her home. She pressed forward again, demandingly asking for a solution, but the Omega stood there like she was frozen.
Unable to contain her anger, the Beta let out a cold laugh and reached out to push her. “Hey, if you can’t talk, you can at least pay, right?”
Wei Jiangxue heard the sound of a body hitting the wall. She couldn’t help but step forward. “Don’t get physical! Let’s talk this out!”
“Talk out what with her?! I’ve been up here for ten minutes and this person hasn’t sputtered out more than a few words! There’s nothing left to say! Just give me the money!” The Beta forced her way into the Omega’s apartment. After snapping at Wei Jiangxue, she turned back to warn the Omega, “I’m sitting right here. If you don’t pay up, you won’t have any peace tonight!”
Actually, the Beta’s aggression this time wasn’t as strong as what Wei Jiangxue had heard before. It was likely because the person opposite her was a female Omega, whereas last time it had been a male Beta, so she had softened slightly.
Wei Jiangxue turned her head blankly, searching for Mi Ruian who had come with her. A scent of roses drifted past as the latter stepped forward and pressed a hand on her shoulder: “I’m here.”
Wei Jiangxue gave an “En,” and then spoke to the air: “Ma’am, let’s go inside and talk. Please stop crying for now. I think if this isn’t resolved quickly, you might not have a good night.”
Perhaps regaining a bit of her senses, the Omega responded with a sob and led the way into the living room, followed by Mi Ruian and Wei Jiangxue.
“Cry, cry, cry. What’s there to cry about? You’re crying away all your luck! It’s annoying just looking at you. Clean up the mess you made and pay up quickly!” the Beta grumbled impatiently.
Before the Omega could respond, the sound of another door unlocking inside the apartment drew everyone’s attention.
“Mama? Who are they? It’s so noisy outside…”
A little girl’s voice sounded sleepy; she had probably just been woken up.
“It’s nothing, it’s nothing. Baby, go back to sleep. We’ll be quieter,” the Omega hurried over, quickly coaxing the child back into the bedroom.
Wei Jiangxue was stunned. This must be the daughter 233 had mentioned.
She took a deep breath, pushing aside her own longing for her family. “Ma’am, why did your place suddenly start leaking?”
Since Wei Jiangxue couldn’t observe the room herself, she could only ask.
“I bought some replacement pipes online a while ago and fixed the bathroom plumbing myself… but I didn’t expect the quality to be so poor. By the time I picked up my daughter from daycare, put her to bed, and went back to the room, the apartment was already full of water…”
Perhaps the appearance of the little girl had calmed the Beta neighbor down; she was actually able to speak calmly now: “Why didn’t you call the landlord?”
“I did before. He said he’d find someone to fix it, but it broke again quickly. I was afraid he’d say I broke it on purpose,” the Omega said timidly.
The Beta slapped the table wordlessly. “Tsk.”
“What are the damages in your room?” Wei Jiangxue asked the Beta.
“Several thousand, mostly because water got into my laptop. I tried drying it with a hairdryer, but it still won’t turn on.” Otherwise, the Beta wouldn’t have rushed up so furiously to cause trouble.
As she answered, Wei Jiangxue secretly asked 233 in her mind: Can you fix it?
[System 233: I took a look. It’s a piece of cake. Leave it to me.]
Wei Jiangxue felt much more relieved. “How about this? Hand it over to me. I have a friend who can fix computers; I guarantee they can get it working. If there are problems later, you can come find me.”
The Beta said suspiciously, “Is there any reason I should believe you?”
“Well, your laptop won’t turn on anyway. Let my friend try; that way you save on repair fees.” Wei Jiangxue spread her hands, showing she wasn’t trying to cause trouble.
The Beta thought about it and realized it made sense. She turned to the Omega mother and said, “This Alpha next door says she’ll help fix the computer, so I won’t ask you for repair money. You just need to pay for the laundry to wash a set of bedding and some clothes—those are ruined. I don’t even have a place to sleep tonight because of you, so you also need to give me money to stay at an inn.”
The Omega said fearfully, “I’m sorry…”
Wei Jiangxue finally understood; this person completely lost her footing and couldn’t speak the moment she was accused. When the Beta had come up earlier, that explosive temper must have scared her out of her wits.
Before she could go over to comfort her, the Omega only panicked for a moment this time before quickly paying the Beta.
The Beta muttered to herself as she left. When she reached the door, she said, “Anyway, next time you need something fixed, you can look for me. I have the supplies, which are better than the junk you buy online, and I can even include installation for free.”
With that, she left quickly.
Now the only ones left in the room were Wei Jiangxue and Mi Ruian. Wei Jiangxue spoke before the Omega could: “I was going to ask for compensation too, but my things aren’t expensive and are easy to clean. How about this? Since times are hard for everyone, just help me wash my plushies once, and we’ll call it even. Okay?”
Of course it was okay. The Omega thanked her repeatedly and agreed on a time for the cleaning. Wei Jiangxue then led Mi Ruian away.
“It’s not easy for her to raise a child alone,” Wei Jiangxue blurted out randomly on the way back.
Mi Ruian hadn’t expected her to explain herself. She smiled and said, “It is indeed hard work.”
When she heard Wei Jiangxue propose such a simple request, Mi Ruian had been shocked.
How did Wei Jiangxue suddenly become so kind-hearted? Mi Ruian could hardly believe those words had come from Wei Jiangxue; she would rather believe she had hallucinated.
Could it be that Wei Jiangxue’s bad temper was only directed at her, Mi Ruian?
An absurd thought floated into her mind, and Mi Ruian remembered the Omega Wei Jiangxue had rescued last time…
Although she didn’t want to admit it, it seemed Wei Jiangxue really only said those bizarre, nasty things to her. To everyone else, Wei Jiangxue showed nothing but kindness.
Mi Ruian’s mood became strange.
In Wei Jiangxue’s eyes, was she a “special” existence as well? Is that why Wei Jiangxue only threw her tantrums at her?
“Thank you for coming up with me… By the way, about what happened this evening, let’s call it even. That was my first kiss, you got a bargain!”
Wei Jiangxue wanted to say something more apologetic, but the value of her “OOC level” was always weighing on her like a mountain, so she had to follow her character and continue to “bully” Mi Ruian.
Mi Ruian didn’t respond. Wei Jiangxue could guess what her expression was—she was probably rendered speechless by anger.
Silently reciting prayers in her heart, Wei Jiangxue cleared her throat and added, “Anyway, give me the quilt. I’ll just make do on the sofa for tonight and find someone to deal with the bedroom tomorrow.”
Mi Ruian still didn’t speak, and Wei Jiangxue’s heart immediately leapt into her throat.
What did the protagonist mean? Was she going to lash out?
Just as the atmosphere was becoming unbearable for Wei Jiangxue, Mi Ruian finally spoke: “Sleep on the sofa? With that wet quilt?”
Wei Jiangxue nodded helplessly.
Mi Ruian’s mocking tone was something she wasn’t used to; it was the first time she had heard her speak that way. It was quite rare.
As expected, she was hiding her true nature before? Is she going to start criticizing me now?
Thinking of this, a secret sense of anticipation actually rose in Wei Jiangxue’s heart.
What would Mi Ruian be like when she was being sarcastic?
She focused all her attention, waiting for Mi Ruian’s next words—
“In a place like that? You’ll probably roll onto the floor in the middle of the night. I’m not so cold-hearted as to watch my roommate wake up screaming from a fall or freeze to death in the middle of the night. My bed is very large. Come here and sleep with me.”
