The Black Lotus Omega Always Wraps His Tail Around Me - Chapter 56
With the intense filming schedule, the end of May quietly approached.
In the blink of an eye, June arrived, and Wuzhen entered its long rainy season.
As Ji Yanwan stared at the drizzle outside, her mood felt just as gloomy.
The muddy ground and makeshift rain shelters made it feel like the only suitable thing to do was curl up in bed and sleep.
But today’s shoot required them to be out in the rain. Director Chen Fei had already instructed the staff early in the morning to prepare ginger brown sugar water for the cast.
After finishing her morning routine, Ji Yanwan came out of the bathroom to find that Fu Suihe was nowhere to be seen. On the table were two bowls of steaming ginger tea.
Ji Yanwan was never fond of sweet things. Even during her period, she barely felt any discomfort, so she had never liked drinking ginger brown sugar water. On the other hand, Fu Suihe always had a tougher time during hers.
Thinking of that, Ji Yanwan rinsed Fu Suihe’s pink thermos clean and began pouring the two bowls of tea into it.
She was halfway through pouring when the door opened.
Fu Suihe stood there holding a tray with a steaming bowl.
The two women looked at each other, both slightly startled.
Noticing that there was only one bowl on the tray, Ji Yanwan frowned and suddenly remembered the green bean and lily soup from before. If this bowl was just for her, had something been added again?
At the same time, Fu Suihe was staring at the pink thermos in Ji Yanwan’s hands. That was hers. Was Ji Yanwan putting something in it?
Both had their own suspicions, but neither showed anything on their face.
Ji Yanwan finished pouring the tea and closed the lid. Then she said, “Director Fei sent up the ginger brown sugar tea. Since we’re filming in the rain later, he was worried we might catch a cold.”
“I don’t like sweet drinks, so I poured everything into your thermos.”
After explaining, she looked at what Fu Suihe was holding, clearly waiting for an explanation.
Noticing her gaze, Fu Suihe gave a light response. “I know you don’t like brown sugar, so I made you a fresh bowl of ginger soup.”
She walked in and placed the tray on the coffee table.
The white porcelain bowl held ginger soup without any sugar. A few large slices of ginger floated on top of the pale golden liquid.
“Drink some. It’s raining today after all,” Fu Suihe said as she placed a spoon inside the bowl and pushed it slightly toward Ji Yanwan.
Ji Yanwan stared at the bowl in silence, wondering if anything suspicious had been added to it.
Seeing her hesitate, Fu Suihe said nothing and turned to enter the bathroom, closing the door behind her.
The ginger soup still let off gentle steam. Ji Yanwan looked at it for a while, then quietly poured it out.
Until she understood Fu Suihe’s true intentions, she decided it was better to be cautious.
When Fu Suihe came out of the bathroom, the bowl on the table was already empty. Two ginger slices were left under the spoon.
She looked at the bowl, then lifted her gaze toward Ji Yanwan.
Ji Yanwan met her eyes and said calmly, “I finished it all.”
Hearing this, Fu Suihe gave a small smile and nodded.
Chen Fei’s voice echoed from downstairs. It was time to head out for the shoot.
Ji Yanwan, who usually never forgot her thermos, left it behind this time.
On the coffee table, the empty bowl sat quietly beside the pink thermos.
In the scene they were filming, Fu He was injured during a mission and was discovered by Lu Ming, who had been out on a photography trip.
Earlier that day, Lu Ming had left the house to get some fresh air when the rain picked up. She stepped outside and noticed a familiar figure stumbling in the rain, clutching her abdomen where blood kept flowing.
Lu Ming’s mind went completely blank. She rushed through the downpour and caught her in her arms.
Ever since they started dating, Lu Ming had never questioned Fu He’s job. Every time she tried to ask indirectly, she got no answers.
Eventually, she stopped asking. Until today, when she found Fu He lying wounded in the rain.
Director Chen took this scene very seriously.
It was the closest Lu Ming had ever come to learning the truth about Fu He’s work. It was also the final moment before their relationship fell apart.
The steady drizzle in Wuzhen wasn’t dramatic enough on camera, so Chen Fei brought in two water trucks to simulate a heavy downpour.
Standing in the rain, Fu He’s face was pale. She clutched her wound and staggered forward, step by step.
Lu Ming had just returned from a photo trip and was staying inside to avoid the weather. But the sudden increase in rainfall made her restless, and she stepped out to breathe.
Through the curtain of rain, she spotted the familiar figure. Without stopping to confirm, she ran straight into the storm.
As she got closer, the figure became clearer. Fu He’s face was almost white.
Like a withered leaf, she collapsed into Lu Ming’s arms.
Though Lu Ming had always been physically weak, some unknown strength surged up. She lifted Fu He and carried her forward.
Chen Fei was not satisfied with the first few takes and called for multiple retakes.
Both Ji Yanwan and Fu Suihe were soaked. Their clothes clung to their bodies, and the cold seeped in, making their limbs go numb.
Zhao Mumu watched from the side, heart aching for them, but she couldn’t do anything except keep towels ready. Every time the director yelled cut, she would run in to cover them.
They reshot the scene so many times that no one could remember how many. Finally, Director Chen’s expression relaxed a little.
But Ji Yanwan had reached her physical limit. When she tried to lift Fu Suihe again, she lost her balance and the two of them fell to the ground.
What should have been the end of the take didn’t stop. Chen Fei told them to keep going.
Under the pounding rain, Lu Ming tried over and over to lift Fu He, only to collapse again and again.
The distance was only five hundred meters, but they fell countless times. In the end, Lu Ming crawled and dragged herself across the ground, finally pulling Fu He to safety.
This time, Director Chen finally nodded in satisfaction and called it.
The artificial rain stopped. Chen Fei picked up the loudspeaker and shouted, “That’s the feeling I wanted. The heavy rain is the hardship of life. Lu Ming never had the strength to carry Fu He, but even stumbling and falling, she never let go of her.”
Both actresses had been soaked through.
Ji Yanwan was shaking from the cold.
Fu Suihe didn’t look much better. She was nearing the end of her heat cycle, and her resistance was already low. The rain had washed away the scent of her pheromones completely.
Her face was pale as paper.
Seeing their condition, Chen Fei dared not continue the shoot. He waved them off to rest.
As soon as they got back to their room, they rushed straight into the shower.
This wasn’t the first time Ji Yanwan had taken a shower with Fu Suihe. After their intimate moments, it was usually Ji Yanwan who carried Fu Suihe into the bathroom to clean up.
Most of the time, though, Fu Suihe would already be drowsy or asleep.
This time, however, they were only taking a shower or so it started. Halfway through, Fu Suihe leaned in and kissed her.
Ji Yanwan understood that she was uncomfortable and didn’t push her away.
The shower ended up lasting almost two hours.
When the two of them finally came out, there were two steaming bowls of ginger soup on the table, along with two boxes of cold medicine.
Ji Yanwan glanced at Fu Suihe, puzzled, only to be met with an equally confused look.
Since the soup wasn’t from Fu Suihe, Ji Yanwan felt her guard relax slightly. Her phone rang just at that moment.
After ending the call, she picked up a bowl and called Fu Suihe over.
“This is ginger soup from Zhao Mumu. She said every actor on set got one.”
Even though Ji Yanwan disliked brown sugar, she still frowned and took a sip.
Almost immediately, she sneezed. She wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but she already felt a bit unwell.
Fu Suihe had intended to refuse, but the discomfort in her body pushed her to sit down and drink as well.
The ginger tea was mostly brown sugar, and Fu Suihe had a sweet tooth. Just one sip made her sigh in relief.
Ji Yanwan, on the other hand, grimaced with every sip, her face twisted from the overpowering sweetness.
“Which one tastes better?” Fu Suihe suddenly asked, watching her closely.
Ji Yanwan’s hand paused. She laughed awkwardly and said, “Of course yours tastes better.”
Her smile was forced, and her eyebrows remained furrowed from the thick sweetness lingering on her tongue.
Fu Suihe gave a small hum and stopped drinking after finishing half the bowl. She got up to rinse her mouth.
Whether it was because of the heat cycle or the cold rain, she felt completely drained. Her body was heavy, and she could barely keep her eyes open.
With just a few tired steps, she collapsed onto the bed.
Ji Yanwan wasn’t much better. She couldn’t finish the ginger tea and set the bowl aside. Then she took two cold pills with some water.
Between exhaustion, cold rain, and falling down earlier, her strength was gone.
On top of that, the long shower had drained her even more. She didn’t even have the energy to lift her arm.
Half-conscious, she crawled into bed. Fu Suihe’s body beside her was burning hot. Ji Yanwan instinctively leaned closer.
The drowsiness from the medication made her eyelids grow heavy, and she soon drifted off.
The fever came on suddenly. It not only worsened Fu Suihe’s condition but also caused her body to lose control.
She had thought lying down would help, but Ji Yanwan clung to her so tightly that no matter how she shifted, she couldn’t get comfortable.
Outside, the sky had turned completely dark. Inside the room, only a small, warm bedside lamp was lit, glowing softly like a scattered star.
The discomfort grew more intense. It felt as if Fu Suihe was being roasted over fire. Her body heat kept rising, her strength fading with each passing second. Her mind was slipping into confusion.
Her ears were the first to change. No matter how many times it happened, she could never quite get used to it. Sensitive to the strands of hair brushing past, her ears twitched slightly on their own.
She didn’t know if Ji Yanwan was asleep yet. When she reached out, she felt that Ji Yanwan’s fever was even worse than her own.
She called her name softly, twice, but got no response.
Emboldened by the silence, Fu Suihe allowed her tail to appear.
The long-hidden tail finally released itself, and the moment it emerged, it started swaying uncontrollably. A few times, it nearly hit Ji Yanwan in the face.
Fu Suihe slipped off the bed. The cool floor helped ease the burning heat in her body.
Foxes also have heat cycles, though theirs only come once a year. She had hoped it wouldn’t arrive before she could deal with Ji Yanwan.
But with summer approaching, her control over her body was slipping more often.
Lying on the floor, her body finally reverted to its original form. The transformation brought immediate relief. The heat faded and the discomfort vanished.
On the bed, Ji Yanwan was still asleep.
Her eyes fluttered open in a daze. The fever had blurred her vision, and everything looked hazy.
In front of her floated a fluffy white blur.
It looked like an animal’s tail.
She struggled to turn her head. Fu Suihe was lying beside her, eyes shut.
Before she could get a clear look, the fluffy tail curled around her head and gently pulled her closer.
With the fever and medication overwhelming her senses, Ji Yanwan slipped into unconsciousness again.
