The Black Lotus Omega Always Wraps His Tail Around Me - Chapter 55
“What do you mean?” Zhao Mumu frowned. The usually gentle girl now looked visibly upset.
Fu Suihe tilted her head back and continued sipping the lukewarm water in her cup, completely ignoring Zhao Mumu’s question.
Seeing her act like this, Zhao Mumu gritted her teeth, both angry and anxious.
It was true that the Zhao family had ambitions of joining the ranks of the Four Great Clans, but Zhao Mumu herself never had such malicious intentions. Whatever she wanted, she fought for it on her own.
While others relied on power and influence to oppress others, Zhao Mumu had no interest in those who tried to cozy up to her for support.
She stuck to her principles and never allowed herself to cross the line.
Yet with just one dismissive sentence, Fu Suihe had reduced everything she believed in to nothing.
Chen Fei was calling out from a distance. Fu Suihe closed her cup, stood up slowly, and looked at Zhao Mumu who remained frozen beside her. She gave a cold sneer and said, “Don’t be so naive. You were raised in a greenhouse. Of course you wouldn’t understand how harsh the world outside can be.”
“If you don’t believe me, go ask your mother.”
She didn’t waste another word on Zhao Mumu and walked away toward where Chen Fei was standing.
Even though the sun was shining high in the sky, Zhao Mumu felt a chill spread through her limbs.
She thought the Zhao family was strong enough now. She finally had the courage to stand by Ji Yanwan’s side.
But now she was being told that she couldn’t even get into the banquet. She didn’t even qualify to receive an invitation.
A deep sense of defeat washed over her. Looking at Ji Yanwan listening attentively next to the director with Fu Suihe’s arm around her, Zhao Mumu clenched her fists tightly by her sides.
Filming went fairly smoothly today, so they wrapped up on time.
Ji Yanwan packed away the thermos and clothes she had brought and sat on a bench, waiting for Fu Suihe to finish removing her makeup.
Other celebrities had assistants swarming around them, but Ji Yanwan and Fu Suihe only had each other, quietly waiting for the other to finish.
Bo Li and Abu were nowhere to be seen again. Ji Yanwan, bored while waiting, swung her legs back and forth to pass the time. Suddenly, her vision darkened as someone stepped in front of her.
It was Hu Luobei, who had appeared out of nowhere. She stood there nervously, twisting her fingers, her face full of hesitation.
Ji Yanwan looked at her with confusion, waiting for her to speak.
Hu Luobei had always been a little afraid of her. Now being stared at so directly, she couldn’t manage to say a single word she had rehearsed.
The two stood there awkwardly, staring at each other. Hu Luobei was so nervous she felt like her heart might leap out of her throat.
“Do you need something?” Ji Yanwan asked, puzzled.
Hu Luobei stammered, “Tonight… tonight Mumu-jie wants to invite you to have hotpot.”
She spoke so fast she almost bit her tongue and didn’t dare lift her head, eyes fixed on the ground.
Ji Yanwan frowned slightly. Zhao Mumu again? And why didn’t she come herself?
She was still deep in thought and hadn’t responded when she noticed Hu Luobei tense up, as if she had just spotted a predator.
Ji Yanwan turned to follow her gaze.
Fu Suihe was walking over. With her makeup removed, her bare face was exposed under the warm glow of the setting sun. The orange light wrapped around her, making her youthful face shine even more.
Ji Yanwan couldn’t help but stare. There was no denying it. Whether with makeup or without, Fu Suihe was one of those rare beauties who stood out in any crowd.
Beside her, Hu Luobei had started shaking uncontrollably, as if the person approaching wasn’t a beautiful woman at sunset but some terrifying beast.
Fu Suihe approached and narrowed her eyes at the sight of Hu Luobei. “What are you two doing?” she asked calmly.
Because of her recent heat cycle, Fu Suihe hadn’t contacted Hu Luobei for some time. She had planned to reach out again once it was over.
Now that Hu Luobei had suddenly appeared and was speaking with Ji Yanwan, she couldn’t help but wonder what they had been talking about.
Fu Suihe’s gaze was like a blade of soft steel, sharp and cold. Hu Luobei couldn’t take it anymore. She quickly whispered, “Don’t forget to come,” then turned and ran off in a panic.
Ji Yanwan reached out instinctively to stop her, calling after her, but Hu Luobei was already gone.
After a full day of filming, Fu Suihe was exhausted. Taking advantage of the moment, she lay down on top of Ji Yanwan, who still hadn’t gotten up.
The two of them ended up lying on each other, like a pile of soft cushions.
“What did she want?” Fu Suihe asked.
“She said Zhao Mumu invited me for hotpot,” Ji Yanwan replied honestly. “Last time, Zhao Mumu invited me to the bridge to watch the moon. It was freezing cold, and I was so tired I just didn’t go.”
Fu Suihe gritted her teeth. Ji Yanwan had been fast asleep while she waited bitterly under the bridge for half the night.
Still, she only complained in her heart. On the surface, she smiled and said, “Then why not go this time? You already stood her up once.”
Ji Yanwan shifted slightly and replied lazily, “I don’t feel like it. I’m a married woman. It’s not right for me to get too close to a single Omega.”
Listening to her say that, Fu Suihe didn’t feel pleased at all. What she really wanted was for Ji Yanwan to get a little closer to Zhao Mumu. She didn’t need her to be so restrained and proper.
They lay there quietly. Fu Suihe showed no intention of getting up, and Ji Yanwan didn’t urge her to move.
From where they lay, they had a clear view of the sky. It was the most vibrant moment of sunset. The sky looked like a spilled palette of colors, shifting from orange and red to shades of purple and finally to deep blue behind the mountain ridge.
The glow of the sunset spread across the sky. The two of them lay silently, sharing the quiet moment.
No one knew how long had passed. Ji Yanwan heard the soft, steady sound of breathing coming from her chest. Looking down, she saw that Fu Suihe had fallen asleep.
She couldn’t help but smile. Fu Suihe looked so peaceful when she slept. Her sleeping posture was always neat. She often curled up like a little kitten.
Not wanting to wake her, Ji Yanwan waited until the last bit of twilight disappeared. When the sky had completely darkened and the stars and moon had come out, she gently picked Fu Suihe up and stood.
Ji Corporation Headquarters
“Are you saying the person who sent the flowers was Zhao Mumu?”
Ji Mingtao walked in holding a stack of documents. Her expression immediately turned serious.
Today was the Ji family’s private banquet, but Ji Mingtao had no intention of attending. She had just finished a meeting when she received a phone call from Bai Li.
When she opened the office door, Bai Li was already waiting inside.
At this time, the Ji Corporation employees were just getting off work. The entire building was brightly lit, and from the floor-to-ceiling windows, one could overlook the whole of Jiang City.
Bai Li heard the sound and couldn’t help turning her head to look.
Ji Mingtao was wearing a dark blue gown today. Her long hair was pinned up in a bun with a wooden hairpin, giving her a graceful and intellectual beauty.
But paired with her cold and imposing expression, she gave off a rather intimidating presence.
Bai Li responded with a quiet “yes” and said, “We’ve checked everything we could. The only name that consistently shows up around the relevant times is Zhao Mumu’s.”
“Besides, doesn’t the Zhao family also want to climb the ranks? Bringing down the Cheng family benefits them the most.”
After she finished speaking, Bai Li glanced at Ji Mingtao’s face, waiting for her response.
Ji Mingtao looked utterly exhausted. She pressed one hand to her forehead, gently massaging her temples. “Even if it benefits the great fathers of their families, there are some people they simply should not touch.”
Bai Li said nothing. Everyone in Jiang City knew Ji Mingtao’s bottom line. That was both her greatest strength and her greatest risk.
Some people respected and feared her, treating her like a living god to avoid crossing her. Others, however, tried to test her patience, gambling with their own fates.
But this move was a dangerous one. Once made, it was a dead end.
Ji Mingtao paused in thought, then asked quietly, “When will Wan finish filming this project?”
“In a month or two at most,” Bai Li replied. “Do you really plan to involve her?”
Ji Mingtao gave a soft “mm.” “The Ji family is hers too. If she can prove herself, it will make her sister happy.”
Bai Li immediately understood what Ji Mingtao meant. Letting Ji Yanwan enter the entertainment industry for training had been Ji Hesong’s idea. But everyone knew this world was not a long-term path. Once this project ended, Ji Yanwan would still return to the Ji Corporation.
For a brief moment, Bai Li found herself curious. What kind of person would Ji Yanwan become when dealing with real problems?
Her thoughts wandered, and when she returned to herself, Ji Mingtao was already resting her head on her hand with her eyes closed.
Dark circles shadowed her eyes. The light layer of makeup did little to cover them. With her eyes closed, her long lashes cast shadows that made her exhaustion even more apparent.
“You didn’t eat again, did you?” Bai Li asked.
Ji Mingtao didn’t open her eyes. She gave a neutral hum in response.
No need to guess. She had probably only eaten once all day. Bai Li picked up the car keys and said, “Come on, let’s go eat.”
Ji Mingtao shook her head and murmured, “Let’s wait a bit longer.”
The moment she said that, Bai Li knew exactly what she was waiting for. Internally, she rolled her eyes and picked up the keys again, preparing to leave.
Just then, the office door opened automatically, and the sound of a wheelchair softly rolled in.
Ji Hesong entered, holding a large takeout bag carefully in her arms.
The two women met face-to-face. Ji Hesong gave her a gentle smile and said, “Bai Li.”
“Sister Hesong.” Bai Li nodded at her and gave a knowing glance. “She hasn’t eaten again all day.”
Hearing this, Ji Hesong frowned slightly and said softly, “Then let me scold her a little.”
The words had just left her mouth when she was suddenly scooped up by Ji Mingtao.
Startled, Ji Hesong let out a soft gasp as the bag in her hands was taken and tossed onto the wheelchair by Ji Mingtao.
Ji Mingtao carried her over and set her gently on the office desk, calling softly, “Sister.”
Bai Li, still standing at the door, was at a loss for words. Just moments ago, Ji Mingtao looked like she was about to collapse. Now she was full of energy, holding someone in her arms without even panting.
Ji Hesong looked a little embarrassed sitting on the desk, lightly tapping Ji Mingtao and whispering, “Stop. There are things everywhere and someone else is here.”
She was surrounded by piles of documents on Ji Mingtao’s desk.
But Ji Mingtao didn’t seem to care. She swept all the files to the floor with one motion, then gently slid her fingers through Ji Hesong’s hair, whispering, “Sister, I’m so tired.”
She wrapped one arm tightly around Ji Hesong’s waist and rested her head in the crook of her neck.
Like a big spoiled cat, baring its soft belly to show affection.
Ji Hesong held her steadily, allowing her to lean against her. Her arms gently wrapped around Ji Mingtao, patting her lightly in return.
The two embraced so intimately, as if no one else was in the room.
Bai Li silently gave them the middle finger in her heart. She pushed the wheelchair a bit deeper into the office, then turned to leave.
As she glanced back, her eyes fell beneath the desk.
Ji Hesong’s legs were hanging down from the desk, and though it was subtle, her calf muscles were trembling slightly.
A flicker of doubt passed through Bai Li’s mind, but before she could look more closely, Ji Mingtao had already closed the door.
The next sound was another stack of documents crashing to the floor.
Just before the door closed completely, Ji Hesong had already been fully lifted onto the desk again.
Bai Li was speechless.
