The Black Lotus Omega Always Wraps His Tail Around Me - Chapter 49
Just as everyone was beginning to grow impatient, the doors of the banquet hall finally opened again.
The guest of honor had finally arrived. The doormen stood at both sides of the entrance as all eyes turned toward the doorway.
Under the gaze of the crowd, the sound of high heels echoed crisply on the marble floor. Ji Mingtao appeared, wearing a sleek black dress and striking red lipstick. A pearl clutch hung gracefully from one side of her hand, and a large pearl ring gleamed on her slender finger, matching the necklace around her neck.
Her heels came to a stop. She glanced around the room, then smiled.
Ji Mingtao entered with a beauty that radiated dominance and confidence.
For a moment, the crowd paused in silence. Then Madam Zhao and her wife quickly stepped forward to greet her.
Zhao Yunrong, the head of the Zhao family, had aged gracefully. Her refined features showed almost no signs of time, and without being told, no one would guess she was already in her forties.
She reached out and lightly held Ji Mingtao’s hand, smiling fondly. “Mingtao, you really kept me waiting.”
Despite the words, the warmth in her smile never faded. It was clear she was genuinely pleased.
Every guest present tonight had received a personal invitation, but only Ji Mingtao was welcomed in person. This level of importance caught the attention of several guests who quickly moved closer.
Ji Mingtao kept smiling as she took her seat at what was now considered the main table. Many around her eagerly tried to strike up a conversation.
Even those who had been chatting comfortably with Cheng Qi moments ago began to drift away from her, positioning themselves in hopes of approaching Ji Mingtao.
Ignoring the sycophants, Ji Mingtao gently called out, “Awan, come here.”
As soon as she spoke, the crowd instinctively stepped aside. Ji Yanwan quickly walked over.
Until now, Ji Yanwan had only heard vague reports from Baili about her older sister’s car accident. Seeing Ji Mingtao arrive in person now was a relief—it meant the injury hadn’t been serious.
Still, Ji Yanwan looked her up and down carefully, checking for any signs of harm before speaking. “Sister.”
Zhao Yunrong noticed the concern in Ji Yanwan’s eyes and gave a playful smile. “If I had known, I would have given Mumu a younger sister too. Look how thoughtful your Awan is. The moment her sister arrived late, she checked on her like a little bodyguard.”
Ji Mingtao was clearly pleased by the worry in her sister’s eyes. She gently patted Ji Yanwan’s cheek and smiled. “That’s right. Awan has always been sweet and obedient. She’s still a child at heart. Mischievous sometimes, but never rebellious.”
As she spoke, she twirled a strand of Ji Yanwan’s hair around her finger. To any outsider, it looked like the perfect picture of sisterly affection.
But to Cheng Qi, standing alone at the edge of the crowd, the words were unbearable.
Watching the two interact so closely, Cheng Qi clenched her jaw. All her hopes of getting close to the Ji family had been shattered, leaving her with nothing but frustration.
Ji Mingtao, who enjoyed stirring the pot, waved at Zhao Mumu and said warmly, “Mumu, you’ve grown so much. The first time I saw you, you were still in high school.”
High school. Ji Yanwan narrowed her eyes slightly, then quickly understood.
Zhao Mumu, however, looked confused. “Did you really meet me in high school, Sister Ji? I don’t remember that at all.”
Ji Mingtao didn’t answer. She simply smiled and glanced at someone who was pretending to look at the ceiling.
That someone was a sixteen-year-old Zhao Mumu, with a high ponytail and bright eyes, smiling in her school ID photo. Even her black-rimmed glasses couldn’t hide her youthful charm.
It was a photo sixteen-year-old Ji Yanwan had carefully cut out from the school honor roll and hidden deep inside her diary.
Ji Mingtao knew about it only because, after a failed confession, Ji Yanwan had come home crying, snot and tears everywhere, and ended up accidentally reading her love journal aloud to her two sisters.
That story had become a long-running family joke.
Seeing that Ji Yanwan didn’t respond, Ji Mingtao didn’t push further or expose her in front of everyone. She simply smiled and let the matter pass.
With Ji Mingtao’s arrival, the atmosphere of the banquet lifted. As the energy rose to a new high, the meal began.
Glasses clinked, and plates were filled with delicately prepared dishes.
Only Ji Yanwan sat quietly, poking at her food without much appetite. Her mind was consumed by thoughts of Fu Suihe, who she had left behind in the resting room.
As fragments of memory returned, Ji Yanwan found it difficult to accept what she had done. She had choked Fu Suihe, threatened her, triggered her heat, and then walked away.
Every detail of it sounded like something a heartless Alpha would do. But none of those things were even part of the mission.
Remembering the mission, Ji Yanwan suddenly realized that the previous task had already been completed without her knowing.
Though the memories were clear in her mind, she had no recollection of doing those things. The memories felt foreign, almost like they had been implanted.
The more she thought about it, the more uneasy she felt.
Ji Yanwan set down her knife and fork, excused herself from the table, and left.
Everything was starting to feel suspicious.
She began to think back, all the way to before she had fallen for Fu Suihe. Their every interaction had felt calculated, even their most intimate moments.
Then suddenly, she had fallen head over heels. Now, just as suddenly, she had hurt her.
The more Ji Yanwan thought about it, the more fearful she became. It felt like everything was spiraling beyond her control.
As if she were the non-player character all along.
Lost in thought, Ji Yanwan soon found herself at the door of the resting room.
A cold breeze blew through the corridor. In the shadowy night, the darkness felt heavy. Overhead, the high-hanging moon seemed to be silently watching the madness of the human world.
She turned the doorknob and opened the door to find only darkness inside.
The small room was empty. Moonlight spilled in through the doorway, illuminating the floor.
And on that floor lay a patch of silver-white fur.
Fu Suihe regained consciousness slowly. When she opened her eyes, she found that her tail was wrapped around something soft and small.
A rush of heat surged through her body, making her lips dry and her throat parched. She shifted slightly and unwrapped her tail.
A fuzzy, round little creature rolled to the floor. It was the rabbit, still unconscious, tangled in her tail.
Fu Suihe frowned as she looked at the small lump, and a wave of irritation rose within her.
The lingering scent of Alpha pheromones in the room only fueled her anger.
She felt like a complete fool.
At first, Fu Suihe approached Ji Yanwan purely to gain access to the Ji family. But she later discovered that Ji Yanwan, despite being spoiled at home, had nothing of value or influence. That realization caused her original plan for revenge to shift course.
She changed her target without hesitation.
The love parasite, the marking, everything had been done.
She never expected to be thoroughly played by Ji Yanwan in return.
Every time Fu Suihe remembered the pity and tenderness she had once felt for Ji Yanwan, her teeth itched with regret. If she had known it would turn out like this, she should have let Ji Yanwan drown back in Wuzhen.
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. Her red eyes glowed with fury, grinding her teeth like an enraged fox.
If not for her need for revenge, she would have already revealed her true form and bitten Ji Yanwan to death.
The world often called foxes cunning and heartless, yet she had been outwitted by a mere human.
The overwhelming anger surging through her made the room feel stifling and suffocating.
Even the unconscious rabbit lying nearby began kicking weakly, sensing the oppressive presence of a natural predator.
Fu Suihe’s hatred peaked at that moment. She no longer wanted to use Ji Yanwan as a tool to take down the Ji family.
She wanted to kill her with her own hands.
Tear her to pieces to vent her rage.
Fu Suihe staggered to her feet and shifted back into her human form. She picked up her phone from the corner of the room. It was filled with missed calls from Abu.
She raised a trembling hand and called back, barely able to stand from the lingering effects of her heat.
Abu arrived quickly and helped her up, ready to leave.
Just as they reached the door, Fu Suihe suddenly turned back. She grabbed the unconscious rabbit by the ears, balled her up, and stuffed her into her coat pocket.
She barely slept that night.
Ji Yanwan lay in bed staring at the ceiling, her eyes shadowed with heavy dark circles.
Since entering this novel world, it was the first time she truly felt its horror. The system that never responded, emotions that appeared out of nowhere, and foreign memories that didn’t belong to her at all.
It was all too overwhelming.
Ji Yanwan rolled onto her side and wrapped herself tightly in her blanket.
For someone who had always been strong, she suddenly felt like crying.
Her real life had only just begun. She had finished her thesis, was about to graduate, and had dreamed of either continuing her studies or starting a career. She would earn her own money, raise a kitten or a puppy, fall in love with a girl she liked, and live a peaceful, happy life.
Tears began to fall silently down the bridge of her nose.
That life had been within reach. So why couldn’t she have it?
The more she thought, the sadder she became. All of this was the fault of that ridiculous, trashy Alpha web novel.
A strange tingling sensation buzzed from her lower back. The system’s voice chimed softly in her mind.
“System: Detecting emotional resistance from the host. Is there anything I can help you with?”
Ji Yanwan sniffled and replied, “I want to go home.”
“System: Your current mission is not yet complete. I’m sorry, but I can’t fulfill that request.”
“But I’ve been doing the mission, haven’t I? Why can’t I return?”
“System: As explained when you were first bound to me, in order to return home, you must complete the fire pit arc. That requires making the original female lead fall in love with you and then breaking her heart. However, it appears you have developed genuine feelings for an NPC. This has stalled the mission and made it impossible to process your request.”
Ji Yanwan frowned. “But I have been following the mission. So why do I keep getting memories that aren’t mine?”
“System: Our scan shows no abnormalities. As for why you’re rejecting your own memories, we cannot determine that.”
She furrowed her brow. Rejection? But those memories had appeared out of nowhere, as if they were implanted.
She wanted to ask more, but the system spoke again.
“System: Since you’re eager to return home, please proceed directly to the fire pit arc. Complete the mission, and your wish will be granted.”
“System: Best of luck. Good night.”
Just like when it arrived, the system vanished silently.
Ji Yanwan lay in the darkness, helplessly staring at the ceiling.
To hurt the original female lead meant to hurt Fu Suihe.
She gazed blankly upward. Maybe it was time to stop being softhearted. After all, she didn’t belong to this world. No matter how much emotion she gave, it would be meaningless in the end.
But still, did she really have to hurt her?
Ji Yanwan let out a long sigh. Her sense of morality tore at her.
They would return to Wuzhen tomorrow.
How was she supposed to face Fu Suihe?
