The Black Lotus Omega Always Wraps His Tail Around Me - Chapter 34
The preparations for the opening ceremony were elaborate and chaotic.
Ji Yanwan had only ever seen such ceremonies on short videos before. The lead actors would line up to offer incense, pose for photos, and cut the ribbon.
But now that she was actually part of one, she realized it was not as effortless as it looked.
Having no prior filming experience, Ji Yanwan could only stand stiffly in place. In contrast, Fu Suihe was clearly a familiar face on set. Even during the brief time it took to arrange everyone’s positions, several people came over to greet her.
At first, Ji Yanwan politely stepped aside to make room for others, but eventually she found herself pushed all the way to the edge.
Surrounded by a crowd, Fu Suihe stood calm and radiant. Every smile and movement of hers was full of warmth and light.
Someone like her was born to be under the spotlight, to be embraced by applause, flowers, and admiration.
Ji Yanwan stood at the edge of the crowd, watching the person surrounded by so many, and unknowingly began to smile.
She didn’t quite know why, but lately, just seeing Fu Suihe made her feel completely happy.
This must be what it felt like to fall in love for the first time. Just one look was enough to fill her with joy. For Ji Yanwan, who had lived over twenty years without ever falling in love, the feeling was new and overwhelming.
She glanced at Fu Suihe, who was speaking with someone, her face lit up with laughter.
Fu Suihe’s smiling face made her look even more dazzling. Ji Yanwan found it difficult to look away.
Just as she was immersed in this moment, she felt a tingling sensation around her lower back.
Her expression darkened. Sure enough, that all-too-familiar voice returned.
[Ding.]
[Mission 6 released: Go on a date with Zhao Mumu.]
[Your current reward pool is: 0. Please note that if the reward pool goes negative, your life points will be deducted.]
[Please complete the task on time. Good luck.]
The electric sensation faded, and Ji Yanwan was left a little dazed.
After the last mission failed due to unforeseen circumstances, the system had gone quiet for a long time.
During that peaceful stretch, she was free to go shopping, eat out, and enjoy her new life in this world. She even experienced love for the first time.
But now the sudden return of a mission reminded her that she still had a job to do.
That high-floating, cloud-like happiness she had been feeling was suddenly pulled back to harsh reality.
Looking again at the person surrounded by admirers, Ji Yanwan’s eyes now held a touch of sadness.
“Excuse me, could I please get through?” came a gentle and slightly shy female voice. “I think you might be standing in my spot.”
Ji Yanwan looked up and saw a small, timid girl with rabbit-like features. The tips of her ears and her cheeks were flushed red.
When she looked up briefly, Ji Yanwan noticed even her pupils had a reddish hue.
“Ah,” Ji Yanwan said, quickly stepping back to make room. Her voice held a bit of apology. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know about the assigned positions.”
Hu Luobei hadn’t expected an apology and looked up at the person in front of her.
The woman was clearly an S-rank alpha, dressed in a crisp white suit. Her features were sharp and striking, with clean-cut lines like a blade. Especially those gray eyes.
With just one glance, Hu Luobei’s inner alarm went off.
Those eyes. Was this alpha… a wolf?
The thought had barely formed before a wave of instinctual fear stopped her from stepping forward. She looked at the open space Ji Yanwan had made and quickly shook her hands.
“No… no, it’s fine… you… you can stay.”
Her reaction puzzled Ji Yanwan. She raised a hand to her face. Had her lack of a smile scared her?
Thinking that might be it, Ji Yanwan tried to force a smile and awkwardly pulled the corners of her lips. “It’s alright, go ahead and stand here.”
What she didn’t know was that this smile and invitation only made Hu Luobei even more frightened.
When the alpha wasn’t smiling, there was a kind of cold distance that made people want to stay away. But this forced smile gave off an eerie chill.
Hu Luobei’s breathing quickened. To her, it felt less like the wolf was offering her a space and more like setting a trap.
That empty spot looked like a plate set for dinner. The way Ji Yanwan invited her felt like she was anticipating the meal.
Hu Luobei shook her head rapidly and turned to run away.
Watching her disappear in an instant, Ji Yanwan was left confused.
Was she really that scary?
The thought left her a little dejected. Her mood plummeted. She looked at the time and saw that the ceremony had not yet started.
The lead actors were gathered in a circle, chatting. Although this production had a large budget, the cast was not filled with big names. Most of them were seasoned veterans with years of solid acting experience but little popularity, or complete unknowns like the girl who had just run off.
Someone like Fu Suihe, young yet supremely talented, someone who could shake up the entertainment industry with just her looks, naturally became the center of attention.
Ji Yanwan sighed softly and shifted a little farther back. Perhaps this world of fame and ambition was not meant for her.
Just then, someone tapped her gently on the shoulder. A familiar voice came from behind her.
“If you step back any farther, you’re going to fall off.”
Ji Yanwan turned around. Zhao Mumu’s voice was soft and gentle, matching her appearance. Her smile was just as warm.
“Thank you,” Ji Yanwan replied, stepping slightly aside. “Do you want to get through?”
Seeing the space Ji Yanwan had stepped aside to offer, Zhao Mumu’s eyes darkened slightly. Was she really that eager to send her away?
When Zhao Mumu didn’t move, Ji Yanwan thought the space she gave wasn’t wide enough. She took another step back, afraid of bumping into her.
Zhao Mumu couldn’t help but raise a hand to gently hold her in place. Her voice was a little helpless.
“If you step back again, you really will fall.”
They were standing on a temporary stage built from stacked shipping containers. It wasn’t very high, but still had a noticeable drop to the ground.
Ji Yanwan turned to look. She had already backed up to the very edge. One more step, and she really might fall.
She looked at the person holding her and politely said again, “Thank you.”
Her tone was courteous, her expression distant. Zhao Mumu felt a sting in her chest, but quickly suppressed it.
“You really don’t want to go over there?” Ji Yanwan asked as she looked at Zhao Mumu standing by her side, then glanced again at the lively group of actors chatting nearby.
Zhao Mumu shook her head. “No need. I don’t really enjoy that kind of atmosphere.”
“What about you?” she asked. “You’re one of the leads. Don’t you want to go and get to know the other cast members?”
Ji Yanwan gave a bitter smile. She looked at the tightly knit circle and shook her head.
“There’s no space left to join in,” she said.
“Miss Ji… to be honest, I don’t think this path suits you,” Zhao Mumu said quietly, lifting her eyes to look at her.
Not suited?
Ji Yanwan glanced across the stage and happened to meet someone’s gaze.
It was the girl she had accidentally scared off earlier. The girl had just managed to climb back up from another side of the platform and had only just gotten her footing when her eyes met Ji Yanwan’s again.
Startled, the girl nearly slipped again. She quickly lowered her head and shrank into the crowd.
Watching her reaction, Ji Yanwan sighed. Her voice held a hint of sadness.
“Is it because I look frightening?”
Sensing her disappointment, Zhao Mumu realized this had something to do with Hu Luobei, whose reaction she had witnessed earlier in full.
Seeing Ji Yanwan’s mood sink, Zhao Mumu gently said, “Maybe she’s just naturally afraid of alphas. It’s in an omega’s instincts to fear them. It’s not your fault.”
Not my fault?
Ji Yanwan looked at her, meeting her warm smile and gentle eyes.
Her mood lifted slightly, and she softly replied, “Thank you.”
“It’s really nothing,” Zhao Mumu said with a smile. “Besides, Hu Luobei is new to the industry. This is her first big production. It’s normal to be nervous and unsure.”
“Hu Luobei?” Ji Yanwan repeated the name, then looked at the girl who now stood far from her. She was curled up like a ball, doing everything she could to reduce her presence.
She kind of looked like a bunny. The name Hu Luobei really suited her.
The image made Ji Yanwan laugh quietly to herself. The cloud hanging over her lifted a little.
Zhao Mumu, who had been watching her closely, also smiled. When Ji Yanwan smiled like this, it brought her much closer to the person Zhao Mumu remembered.
Eventually, the group that had been chatting finally broke up. The director began calling for photos, and the cast arranged themselves in order for the ribbon-cutting.
Ji Yanwan and Zhao Mumu stood on the edge, keeping to themselves as much as possible.
It wasn’t until the positions were set and the crew started adjusting the cameras for the shoot that Fu Suihe finally noticed Ji Yanwan wasn’t beside her.
She politely interrupted the photographer and whispered something to the director. Then she stepped out of her original position and searched the crowd until she found the familiar figure at the very end.
“Awan!” Fu Suihe called, waving her hand. “Come stand next to me.”
Her voice was loud, loud enough for everyone on set to hear. Many instinctively turned to look.
All eyes fell on the back of the crowd.
Ji Yanwan froze for a second. She looked at the dazzling figure calling her name. The filming lights cast a halo behind Fu Suihe, who stood with the light behind her, smiling and calling out to her.
Whatever had been weighing on Ji Yanwan’s heart seemed to vanish. In that moment, just hearing Fu Suihe affectionately call her “Awan” made her heart melt.
She lifted her head and smiled.
“Okay,” she said.
And then she began walking against the flow of the crowd, moving toward the light.
The actors who had just been chatting with Fu Suihe now whispered among themselves as they watched the unfamiliar woman approach.
“Who is she?”
“Never heard of her. Is she some new actress they just dropped into the role?”
“Did Fu Suihe bring her in through connections? Why is she standing next to her? Is she a lead actress?”
“The director even gave up his spot. She must be a new recruit brought in at the last minute. Really mysterious, not a single rumor got out.”
“Hey, I heard this drama is funded by the Ji family. Doesn’t their third daughter have a role too? Could that be her?”
“Looks like it. I saw her standing next to Scriptwriter Zhao earlier. They clearly know each other. Didn’t the Zhao family also invest in this?”
“Most likely. Wasn’t there talk that Suihe left the industry after marrying the Ji family’s third miss? Now she’s back filming again, and it’s a Ji-funded project. It’s obvious the third miss came with her.”
“Did you see those gray eyes? Kinda intense.”
The whispered conversations weren’t loud, but they weren’t exactly quiet either.
Fu Suihe’s gaze darkened, and her expression soured.
She had been too busy chatting to realize Ji Yanwan had been left out. When she called her over earlier, Ji Yanwan had responded first, then leaned in and quietly said something to the person beside her, who simply smiled and nodded in return.
Now Ji Yanwan had reached her side. She took Fu Suihe’s hand and asked, “Why is your hand so cold?”
Facing the nearby cameras, Fu Suihe subtly pulled her hand away and said, somewhat unhappily, “There are cameras here.”
Looking down at the hand that had just been released, Ji Yanwan felt a wave of disappointment.
Fu Suihe didn’t look at her expression. Instead, her eyes shifted to the person who had walked over with her.
Zhao Mumu met her gaze and smiled warmly.
“Miss Fu, I’m very glad you agreed to act in my script,” she said. “Looks like we’ll be working closely together from now on.”
