The Black Lotus Omega Always Wraps His Tail Around Me - Chapter 33
Their RV had arrived at the set the night before.
By the time Ji Yanwan watched Fu Suihe finish the last bite of her salad, the sounds of people moving outside the set had already begun.
When she opened the curtain, she noticed that several new RVs had parked next to theirs.
As soon as Ji Yanwan opened the door, she ran straight into someone.
The person clearly froze upon seeing her. Their foot slipped, and they fell backward.
Ji Yanwan reacted faster than she could think. Before she even realized what she was doing, the person in white had already been caught tightly in her arms.
Instead of the expected pain, Zhao Mumu looked up and saw the one who had caught her.
Today, Ji Yanwan was wearing an off-white suit. Although it was casual in design, on her, it carried a unique sense of restraint and elegance.
From her position on the ground, Zhao Mumu could clearly see Ji Yanwan’s sharp jawline and the faint gleam on her rimless glasses.
Having never been this close to an alpha before, Zhao Mumu lay in her arms, her face instantly flushing red.
After helping Zhao Mumu sit up, Ji Yanwan instinctively tried to put some distance between them. But Zhao Mumu made no effort to stand up on her own.
Ji Yanwan frowned and gently reminded her, “Excuse me, may I let go now?”
The blush on Zhao Mumu’s face faded quickly. She bit her lip and moved away.
But she moved too fast, lost her balance, and stumbled.
This time, Ji Yanwan didn’t pull her into an embrace again. Instead, she reached out and firmly grabbed Zhao Mumu by the wrist.
Alphas were stronger by nature. With Ji Yanwan’s support, Zhao Mumu quickly regained her balance.
Blushing again, she whispered, “Thank you.”
She hadn’t expected to run into Ji Yanwan so soon. Her hands fidgeted nervously, and she stood there, unsure of what to do.
Ji Yanwan replied softly, “It’s nothing,” and didn’t look at her again.
Footsteps sounded behind them. Ji Yanwan naturally turned around and opened the door wider, thoughtfully extending her arm.
Fu Suihe took her hand without hesitation and said with a bright smile, “Thank you, darling.”
Her voice was light and playful, and the word “darling” teased Ji Yanwan like a gentle tug.
It had rained the night before. The water and mud mixed together, leaving puddles of various sizes where car tires had rolled.
Fu Suihe was dressed in a light purple tracksuit today, with bright white sneakers that almost sparkled.
She looked down at the puddles, then looked at Ji Yanwan and called out pitifully, “Darling.”
What started as a simple helping hand turned into something more. Ji Yanwan stepped forward and nearly lifted her up into her arms.
Fu Suihe’s clean white shoes landed on a dry spot. Grinning, she stood on tiptoe and planted a kiss on Ji Yanwan’s cheek.
Then she grabbed her hand and said, “Let’s go find the director together.”
Ji Yanwan nodded and gently squeezed her hand in return. “Alright.”
The two of them walked off into the distance, while Zhao Mumu remained frozen in place, still unable to come back to her senses.
It wasn’t until her assistant cried out behind her, “Miss Zhao, your shoe,” that she finally looked down.
Her foot had stepped right into a muddy puddle, and dirty water had soaked through her shoe completely.
The damp, sticky feeling was extremely uncomfortable.
The director’s car had not yet arrived.
Crew members on set were still setting up the canopy for the opening ceremony.
The heavy rain from the night before had turned many parts of the set into small puddles. As people moved back and forth, muddy splashes flew everywhere.
Ji Yanwan shielded Fu Suihe behind her like a protective mother hen, afraid even a single drop of dirty water might hit her.
“Well well, I was wondering which big star it was.”
A mocking voice rang out, followed by splashing footsteps through the mud.
Ji Yanwan reacted quickly and stepped back in time to avoid being splashed.
She looked up at the person who had spoken.
It was a young Omega male. He was small and slightly frail, his face heavily made up. At first glance, his gender was hard to distinguish.
Ji Yanwan’s expression immediately turned cold, her gaze sharp and unwelcoming.
The Omega was startled by the look in her eyes. An instinctive fear of alphas made him shrink back slightly.
Still, he stiffened his neck and snapped back, “Fu Suihe, found yourself a new sugar mommy again? This one’s scarier than the old man.”
Before he could finish, he took a slap to the face.
The slap landed so suddenly that he froze, holding his cheek in silence.
The one who slapped him simply adjusted the cuffs of her suit and asked calmly, “What’s your name?”
The male Omega still hadn’t recovered, his eyes glaring at her.
“Hu Qi,” Ji Yanwan said before he could answer. “The one FU Entertainment promoted for two years who still couldn’t make it. What are you barking about here?”
Her tone was dismissive, not even bothering to look him in the eye.
Hu Qi hadn’t expected to be insulted like that. It was like taking another slap to the face.
Clutching his cheek, he gritted his teeth and growled, “Who do you think you are? You dare hit me? I’ll make sure you never work in this industry again.”
Ji Yanwan nodded and said, “Sure. My last name’s Ji. I’ll be waiting for your revenge.”
She chuckled and turned to wrap her arm around Fu Suihe.
“But before you ruin my career tomorrow, you’re going to apologize to her first.”
Hu Qi stared at her in disbelief. “What did you say?”
“Can’t understand plain speech?” Ji Yanwan said. “Apologize to her.”
Hu Qi stared angrily at the person Ji Yanwan was holding in her arms. Normally, back at the company, Fu Suihe was someone anyone could step on. Yet now, just because of a contract termination, she had somehow transformed into someone untouchable.
He gritted his teeth, unwilling to apologize.
Apologizing to someone he had mocked and belittled countless times? He really couldn’t bring himself to do it.
But the alpha standing in front of him had a gaze like a blade. The hostility in her eyes was impossible to ignore.
Hu Qi had just returned from vacation abroad with three benefactors. He had no idea what had happened while he was away.
The only reason he was able to join the production crew overnight was because he had spent the last half-month keeping those benefactors entertained.
It had not been easy to earn this opportunity, and he knew that the alpha in front of him was not someone he could afford to offend.
After weighing his options carefully, Hu Qi finally muttered, “Sorry.”
His apology was stiff and forced, like it had been squeezed out between his teeth.
He thought that was enough and hoped it would pass.
But Ji Yanwan turned exaggeratedly to the side and asked, “Did someone just say something?”
She then looked back down at Fu Suihe and said, “Was that a mosquito buzzing, or a fly humming?”
Fu Suihe, who had kept her head down until then, couldn’t help but laugh. She looked up and met Ji Yanwan’s gaze.
Behind the glass of her frameless lenses, Ji Yanwan’s clear eyes reflected only her.
Seeing her smile made Ji Yanwan smile too.
Hu Qi, standing off to the side, was dazed as he watched their quiet intimacy.
He forgot to look away and accidentally met Ji Yanwan’s icy gray eyes again.
Her smile instantly faded. She frowned, her voice full of impatience. “What are you looking at? Apologize.”
She said it loudly enough that the nearby staff all turned their heads.
Hu Qi’s face turned pale, then flushed red. He stiffened his neck and snapped, “Fine. I’m sorry, alright?”
But Ji Yanwan was not impressed. “Sorry, alright? Sorry to who? What do you mean sorry, alright?”
Hu Qi was speechless.
After a moment of silence, he finally said, “Sorry, Fu Suihe.”
As soon as he said it, he turned around and walked away without waiting for a response.
Watching his back disappear, Ji Yanwan let out a quiet scoff.
Fu Suihe, who had remained silent the entire time, only smiled. She reached out and gently hooked her pinky around Ji Yanwan’s, giving it a light shake.
Ji Yanwan turned her hand and held hers tightly.
“No one will ever bully you again,” she said.
Fu Suihe smiled and replied, “Okay.”
By now, the crew had finished setting up the canopy and a ribbon-cutting platform had been built.
A red carpet had been laid out to cover the muddy ground.
Zhao Mumu stood in place, staring at the pair holding hands on the other side, snuggled close together.
Her hand slowly curled into a fist.
Her thoughts drifted far, far back to their high school days, also on a rainy day.
Back then, Ji Yanwan didn’t wear glasses yet. She wasn’t as calm or distant as she was now.
In high school, Ji Yanwan had been like a big, eager puppy.
Even though everyone wore the same uniform, she somehow stood out. Her hair was cut into a medium-length mullet, and after napping in class, a few strands would stick up.
She would lean on Zhao Mumu’s desk with messy hair and ask about math problems, not even looking at the answers, just staring straight at her.
Zhao Mumu gave a bitter smile.
Once the memories started flowing, they poured out like a flood.
The Ji Yanwan from back then had been brave and straightforward.
She would bring cold coconut drinks on hot days, leave jackets in her desk when it was cold, and even make brown sugar water for her during her period.
That kind of passion and sincerity had been the brightest color in Zhao Mumu’s youth.
“Miss Zhao,” her assistant gently tapped her, “you’ve stepped off again.”
Pulled back to reality, Zhao Mumu looked down. Her freshly changed shoes had sunk back into the mud, and her heart felt just as heavy.
Her assistant softly reminded her, “The opening ceremony is starting. Should we head over?”
Zhao Mumu looked away from her shoes.
The red carpet stretched straight to the stage, where the director and lead actors were already in place.
Among the many stars, her eyes found that figure in the white suit and refused to look away.
Something hidden in the depths of her heart cracked open. The more she watched Ji Yanwan treat Fu Suihe with such gentle care, the more her memories tore at her.
It had only been a few years, but Zhao Mumu didn’t want to believe that Ji Yanwan had completely forgotten her.
She closed her eyes, then opened them again, stepping onto the red carpet with her mud-stained shoes.
The path ahead might be muddy, but if Ji Yanwan was at the other end, then Zhao Mumu was willing to try.
Being a coward once in youth had been enough. This time, she was going to be the brave one.
In the span of just one day, Bai Li had already returned to the Wuzhen rest stop for the second time.
She hadn’t planned to go to the set with Ji Yanwan. She couldn’t accept spending every day at home watching the children.
But Ji Mingtao refused to give her any assignments.
With no choice left, Bai Li set out. Yet just as she arrived in Wuzhen around noon, she got a call from Ji Mingtao.
She turned the wheel immediately and headed back to Jiangcheng.
Under the leadership of Ji Hesong and Ji Mingtao, the Ji Group had expanded rapidly over the past few years.
In only five years, they had built a high-rise headquarters in the heart of Jiangcheng.
Bai Li took the elevator to the thirty-third floor. When she arrived at the office, Ji Mingtao had just finished a meeting.
She must have been angry just moments ago. Her lips were tightly pressed together, and the sound of her heels hitting the floor was sharp and clear.
When she heard footsteps behind her, Bai Li turned her head from the chair.
Ji Mingtao’s expression was still dark. As soon as the office door locked behind her, she exploded.
“Useless idiots,” she snapped.
Her red lips moved with precision, cutting down her subordinates without mercy.
Bai Li didn’t say a word, but she could guess most of what had happened.
On the surface, Ji Hesong was the one in charge of the Ji Group. But in reality, Ji Mingtao had been the one expanding its business behind the scenes.
To strengthen their foundation, she worked with everyone, both above and below the table. But in the end, she always cleaned things up and handed them over to Ji Hesong.
In the past few years, the Ji Group hadn’t experienced any public turmoil, but privately, the upper management had been completely reshuffled.
Ji Mingtao rubbed her forehead, her eyes filled with exhaustion.
“Do you need me to go back?” Bai Li asked. “Miss Yanwan has a tracker on her. She shouldn’t be in any danger.”
Ji Mingtao smiled faintly. “Bai Li, the one we need to keep an eye on isn’t Ji Yanwan.”
With just that one sentence, Bai Li fell silent.
She knew exactly what Ji Mingtao was concerned about.
The Fu family had always been a sore spot for Ji Mingtao. Even the strict and demanding Ji family elders had never made her hold such a lasting grudge.
Ten years ago, when the Fu family went through a brutal power shift, Fu Leiwu had not only wiped out fifteen members of the original Fu family, but also dragged down the Ji family, who had tried to stay uninvolved.
To this day, they still hadn’t found out exactly which member of the Fu family had crippled Ji Hesong’s leg.
Bai Li pressed her lips together and asked, “What if it wasn’t the Fu family?”
As soon as she spoke, Ji Mingtao’s gaze swept over like a blade.
She let out a cold laugh. “Any Ji family elder involved with it, I’ve already dealt with.”
“For fifteen years, Fu Leiwu never made a move. Aside from the dead Fu, I can’t think of anyone else it could be.”
Bai Li looked up at her. That cold smile still hung on Ji Mingtao’s red lips, but it never reached her eyes.
Bai Li opened her mouth to say something, but the office door swung open with a soft click.
Wheels rolled across the floor, making a faint sound.
The woman who had looked so tired moments ago instantly perked up. She didn’t even care that she was wearing heels. She ran over with small, eager steps.
Bai Li glanced at the suddenly playful Ji Mingtao, then at the faint bite mark visible on Ji Hesong’s neck. She rolled her eyes silently.
Their perfume scents had completely blended together. Clearly, they hadn’t been apart for even an hour.
But Ji Mingtao didn’t care what Bai Li might be thinking. She bent down and scooped Ji Hesong up out of the wheelchair.
The familiar citrus fragrance soothed Ji Mingtao’s frustration. She leaned in to steal a quick kiss from Ji Hesong’s lips.
In a softened voice, she asked, “Did you miss me?”
Ji Hesong smiled faintly and replied, “Why don’t you guess?”
Not getting the answer she wanted, Ji Mingtao leaned in again for another kiss, but Ji Hesong raised her palm to block her.
“Bai Li is still here,” Ji Hesong reminded her. “Let’s talk business first.”
Ji Mingtao kissed her palm in return, then trailed kisses along her wrist until she reached the bend of her arm, where she finally stopped.
She pressed a button, and a hidden resting room was revealed.
She wheeled Ji Hesong inside and sneaked one more kiss before saying, “Wait for me, just a moment.”
The door to the resting room closed.
Ji Mingtao’s smile also disappeared completely. She silently handed her phone to Bai Li.
Bai Li took the phone and saw a screenshot.
A message had been sent from an unknown number. The general content was a thank you for the flowers and an invitation to have a meal together.
Though the number was unfamiliar, the sender clearly wasn’t. The message opened with “Hesong” and was signed “Cheng Qi.”
Bai Li frowned and asked, “Who did this?”
Ji Mingtao shook her head and took the phone back. “I don’t know. The message didn’t go to my sister. I intercepted it.”
“So she doesn’t know.”
Bai Li furrowed her brow, analyzing the details in the message.
Ji Mingtao said, “Look into Fu Suihe. I checked the florist’s call records. The call to place the order came from Wuzhen, but it was made from a public phone booth.”
Bai Li nodded.
“Find out who sent those flowers,” Ji Mingtao said as she tapped the table with her finger. “The Cheng family is in the middle of a major deal. Take an appropriate slice for ourselves.”
Bai Li noted everything down and then said, “Let me take care of it. I’ll go back and handle this. Let An Ge take care of the kid for now.”
“An Ge is busy falling in love,” Ji Mingtao replied. “She’s not as reliable as you are. Be good, Bai Li.”
Just that one gentle phrase—Be good, Bai Li—was enough to stop any protest she might have had.
Bai Li gave a quiet response and stood up as Ji Mingtao rose from her seat.
“Head back to Wuzhen, Bai Li.”
“Be safe.”
As the door opened and then closed behind her, Bai Li looked at the empty space and let out a soft hum of acknowledgment.
