The Black Lotus Omega Always Wraps His Tail Around Me - Chapter 26.4
She opened a drama series with more than seventy episodes and began watching casually.
By the time the last cigarette was gone and her yawns had become constant, one of the car’s windows lowered slightly.
A slender, pale hand reached out from inside, holding a cigarette between two fingers. There were faint bite marks on the filter.
The driver ducked her head, pretending to be invisible. This wasn’t her first time encountering such a situation.
Back when she worked for the Ji family’s eldest and second daughters, there had been a few occasions where she was told to drive to a secluded place and wait outside.
Once, curiosity had gotten the best of her. When the car inside went quiet, she sneaked a peek.
Just as she turned around, the window had rolled down, and she caught a glimpse of the eldest daughter leaning against the frame, her beautiful face flushed with exhaustion.
She even saw a faint bite mark on her cheek.
She had only looked once. For the sake of her job, she had learned her lesson.
Pulling herself back to the present, the driver waited a few more minutes before brushing the dust from her clothes and standing up.
There was a privacy panel in the car, so she couldn’t see the backseat, only focus on the road ahead.
When they arrived at the destination, she stepped out to open the door.
Ji Yanwan climbed out of the car, carrying someone in her arms, and thanked the driver softly.
Surprised, the driver nodded quickly. When she accidentally glanced at the person in Ji Yanwan’s arms, she noticed a fresh bite mark on her neck.
She quickly looked away, unable to stop the gossip forming in her mind. The Alphas in the Ji family all seemed to have a habit of biting people.
Ji Yanwan had no idea what the driver was thinking. She looked at the person sleeping soundly in her arms and let out a long sigh.
After over twenty years of being single, with only thousands of romance novels as experience, she had finally been led into her first real-life situation by Fu Suihe.
Her feelings were complicated, to say the least. But the one thing she felt relieved about was that she had not fully marked Fu Suihe.
At the very edge of losing her reason, the system had zapped her with a warning.
Her bite had loosened, leaving only a temporary mark.
Even so, the temporary mark had calmed Fu Suihe down considerably.
While Ji Yanwan was running through a mental storm of what to do next, Bai Li was already waiting for her at the door.
After laying Fu Suihe down in bed, Ji Yanwan looked at her uneasy sleeping face and frowned slightly.
A soft knocking pulled her from her thoughts.
Bai Li stood at the door, looking as though she had something to say.
Ji Yanwan tucked the blanket around the sleeping girl, then followed Bai Li out of the room.
Once they reached the first floor, Bai Li could no longer hold it in.
“Third Miss, did you eat any of that?”
Her tone was sharp and direct, her finger pointing squarely at the table full of dishes.
Ji Yanwan glanced at the food Fu Suihe had painstakingly prepared. It had cooled by now but still looked carefully arranged.
“What is it?” Ji Yanwan’s voice was still a bit hoarse. She coughed softly.
Bai Li explained, “While the two of you went upstairs to change, I took samples of the food and had them tested.”
“Tested?” Ji Yanwan frowned and looked again at the now-cold but still beautiful spread. Her heart skipped. “Was something wrong with it?”
Countless worst-case scenarios raced through her mind.
But Bai Li shook her head. “The results just came back. There was nothing unusual.”
Ji Yanwan was confused now. She waited, expecting her to continue.
“The reason I tested it,” Bai Li said, her voice growing tense, “is because Second Miss saw from the surveillance…”
Bai Li pressed her lips together and said, “Second Miss saw from the surveillance that Miss Fu added something to the food before you came downstairs.”
“But the test results came back normal,” she added. “There were no toxins found. Maybe it was a substance not yet stored in the detection database.”
“She added something?” Ji Yanwan’s voice trembled slightly. “You’re saying Suihe tampered with the food?”
Bai Li nodded.
Ji Yanwan tried to analyze her words. Within seconds, she ruled out any doubts. Ji Mingtao might be strict and suspicious, but she would never harm her. That meant the only possibility was that Fu Suihe had indeed done something to the food.
But why?
The image of Suihe crying on her shoulder just the night before, her face smudged with tears, softly pleading not to be hated, was still vivid in her mind. That person had looked so helpless and terrified of being abandoned.
Why would someone like that turn around and add something to a carefully prepared meal?
Ji Yanwan could not make sense of it.
The trust, the tenderness she had been slowly building, crumbled in that moment. The intense heat from the car ride earlier faded entirely, leaving her body cold.
Bai Li hesitated before softly suggesting, “Should we consider canceling the engagement, Miss Ji?”
“No,” Ji Yanwan replied without hesitation. “And don’t bring it up again.”
She took a deep breath, then added, “Let’s wait until she wakes up. I want to hear what she says for herself.”
Canceling the engagement would mean failing her mission.
All she wanted now was to finish the task and return to her own world.
Bai Li looked like she still had something to say but kept quiet.
—
By the time night fell, the person lying on the bed finally opened her eyes.
Fu Suihe felt a heavy soreness throughout her limbs. The intense fever had faded, and the temporary mark on her neck had calmed the unrest in her body.
But something felt wrong. Ji Yanwan wasn’t by her side.
Fu Suihe sat up, pressing a hand to her lower back. A soft flicker of light in the darkness caught her eye, immediately putting her on alert.
She grabbed her phone, opened the camera, and slowly scanned the room. In the corner, a faint red dot blinked. It was a small surveillance camera.
Fu Suihe froze. Her eyes narrowed. She seemed to realize something.
She pushed the blanket aside and climbed out of bed.
—
Downstairs, the Alpha had already showered and was lounging on the sofa, her hair still slightly damp, a book held loosely in her hand.
She barely looked up when she heard the elevator chime, only lifting her eyes slightly to glance over.
There was no greeting. No concern. Her face was calm, distant, like a stranger’s.
That look made Fu Suihe’s suspicions grow stronger.
She forced a soft smile and spoke first.
“Did I sleep for a long time?”
Ji Yanwan didn’t move and replied casually, “I’m fine. Are you hungry?”
“I am!” Fu Suihe answered with a cheerful smile.
The kitchen door opened, and Bai Li came out carrying a plate of food. She said, “Then please wash your hands before coming to eat, ladies.”
Fu Suihe’s eyes fell on the dining table. The steaming dishes looked very familiar.
They were the same ones she had prepared that morning.
Fu Suihe smiled slightly and turned to her with a warm expression. “Thank you, Miss Bai. But this dish shouldn’t be reheated like this.”
“That’s because I added something to it. Reheating it would ruin the flavor,” Bai Li explained.
As Fu Suihe finished speaking, the person who had been quietly reading earlier finally looked up, their gaze now fixed on her.
Two pairs of eyes, one from in front and one from behind, were both waiting for what Fu Suihe would say next.
