The Beautiful Wife I Picked Up Is A Little Mute - Chapter 7
Chapter 7: Deeply Carved
In his clouded consciousness, Xie Mo actually felt that the Alpha’s decision to climb through the window was correct. After all, he had barricaded the door himself; there was no other way in.
He didn’t even recognize who was holding him, only instinctively clutching the fabric of Ji Hanyue’s shirt. It was an unconscious act of coyness, a silent plea for just a little more pheromones.
Ji Hanyue’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He completely forgot that he was in someone else’s room. He laid Xie Mo gently on the bed, braced his hands on either side, and leaned over.
…
Morning light filtered through the thin curtains, weaving into fragments on the floor.
Ji Hanyue squinted, turning his head to see the sleeping Omega in his arms. Xie Mo’s cheeks were rosy, his fluffy head buried in Ji Hanyue’s chest, his body slightly curled. As if sensing something, his eyelashes fluttered, but he didn’t wake.
Ji Hanyue’s mind wasn’t entirely clear yet. He stared at the person in his arms for a long time until the shattered memories of last night came rushing back.
To put it simply: He had slept with a total stranger—an Omega.
His fingertips brushed away the stray hairs covering Xie Mo’s eyes. A hint of sweet Nutmeg scent leaked out from the movement. Ji Hanyue’s nose twitched, and he unconsciously licked his lips, his thoughts shifting instantly.
If he’s not marked, how can he be considered someone else’s Omega?
Whoever marks him, owns him.
In a single second, the decision was made. Ji Hanyue propped himself up and gathered his clothes from the floor to get dressed, intending to take Xie Mo back with him. He didn’t feel at peace staying here.
However, his wrist was suddenly caught by a soft hand. Xie Mo’s brow furrowed slightly, and his lips moved soundlessly—
“Don’t go.”
Ji Hanyue looked into those misty eyes and suddenly smiled. He leaned down and kissed the top of Xie Mo’s sweaty head.
“Be good, and I won’t go.”
Day and night blurred. During that time, those persistent Alphas from the street returned a few times. Unlike before, while the sweet scent of the Omega remained, it was now laced with a heavy, dominant Alpha pheromone.
…
Ji Hanyue eventually brought the boy home. But by then, seven days had passed.
In those seven days, no one had once knocked on the door of that apartment. This made Ji Hanyue doubt the truth of Xie Mo’s living situation. Yet, the large pair of slippers in the small shack and the oversized clothes in the wardrobe weren’t fake.
Holding onto his suspicions, he simply continued to focus on the task at hand.
…
Xie Mo was startled awake by the sound of pounding on a door.
He opened his eyes and looked at the exquisitely decorated room filled with warm tones, wondering if he was dreaming. But on second thought, it felt impossible—dreams weren’t this good.
“Ji Hanyue, open the door!!”
The banging continued. Ren Wen was shouting loudly outside. Suddenly, someone tapped Xie Mo’s shoulder from behind, making him nearly jump out of his skin. He turned to find Ji Hanyue.
“Holy—?! Why are you outside? I thought you were in the bedroom,” Ren Wen exclaimed as the door finally opened.
Ji Hanyue was holding a bowl of porridge, his expression somewhat unnatural. “When did you get here? Why didn’t you say anything?”
Ren Wen was speechless. “The messages I sent you over the last seven days could fill a thesis. You didn’t read a single one?”
Ji Hanyue coughed. “Forgot.”
He didn’t have time to argue with Ren Wen. Xie Mo hadn’t really eaten anything these past few days, and Ji Hanyue was afraid he might actually starve him to death.
The bowl of porridge was familiarly intercepted by Ren Wen, who shook the porcelain bowl and raised an eyebrow. “Tsk tsk, how elegant. Bringing porridge into the bedroom? Don’t tell me it’s really what I think… a hidden beauty in a golden house…”
Before he could finish, as if on cue, the bedroom door creaked open.
Xie Mo was wearing an oversized white T-shirt that draped down to his knees. His legs were too weak to support him against the doorframe, and he shook his dizzy head. When he looked up, he met Ren Wen’s gobsmacked expression and saw Ji Hanyue’s spine suddenly stiffen.
Ren Wen’s words died in his throat. It took a long while for him to find his voice. “No… wait… you… you actually have one?”
Ji Hanyue looked thoroughly displeased. Before Xie Mo could react, he was pushed back into the bedroom, and the door slammed shut.
After not seeing his friend for seven days, the guy suddenly had a partner. No one could take that lightly. Ren Wen was indignant. “Didn’t we agree to use suppressants for the rest of our lives?”
Ji Hanyue looked at the cooling porridge in Ren Wen’s hand and snatched it back. “If you want porridge, there’s more in the kitchen. Go get it yourself. Give this back.”
Seeing Ji Hanyue trying to dodge the subject, Ren Wen curled his lip but didn’t press further. Remembering the glimpse of the Omega, he offered a fair critique: “Your taste isn’t bad.”
“Obviously,” Ji Hanyue replied without a hint of a blush, turning the doorknob. Just as Ren Wen tried to steal another look, Ji Hanyue expressionlessly closed the door in his face.
Scanning the room, Ji Hanyue’s brow furrowed; Xie Mo wasn’t on the bed. Hearing a faint noise from the bathroom, he set down the porridge and walked over.
There, he found Xie Mo naked, curled up in the corner of the bathtub. The Omega’s frame was so small and thin that he barely occupied a third of the tub. His skin was pale and thin, and his nape and shoulders were covered in various shades of red marks—even other exposed areas hadn’t escaped. They were all marks carved by Ji Hanyue.
Xie Mo hugged his knees, his forehead resting against them. His hair was damp, making him look even more pitiful. Ji Hanyue guessed he was crying again. This Omega was the most tearful person Ji Hanyue had ever met.
He placed his palm on Xie Mo’s head, patting it gently as a form of comfort. “What’s there to cry about? Staying with me is better than picking up trash.”
The Omega only buried his head deeper. Ji Hanyue didn’t have much patience left. He leaned down, hooked his arm under Xie Mo’s knees, and lifted him up. He strode back into the bedroom, sat on the edge of the bed, and pulled the boy onto his lap.
One hand circled the thin waist to prevent him from sliding off, while the right hand brought a spoonful of porridge to Xie Mo’s lips. “Open up.”
A warm tear splashed onto the back of his hand. Xie Mo remained stiff and motionless.
Seeing Xie Mo still acting as if he were being violated, Ji Hanyue’s face darkened instantly. He slapped the spoon back into the bowl. The next second, Xie Mo was pinned down onto the bed.
Ji Hanyue used two fingers to tilt his chin up, forcing him to meet his gaze. Only then did he realize Xie Mo had cried so much he had run out of tears. There were only dried, intersecting tear tracks left on his small face, and the corners of his eyes were a bloody red.
Because he was mute, even his sobs were broken and trapped in his throat. He could only tremble his lips and look up at Ji Hanyue with fluttering lashes.
Ji Hanyue’s heart suddenly went into disarray. His grip loosened significantly, and he used his thumb to wipe away a stray tear. “I won’t mistreat you here. Stop crying.”
Ji Hanyue had no idea how to comfort an Omega; usually, people just followed his lead. His attempt at consolation had the opposite effect.
Xie Mo didn’t want to believe that the person who had been with him for these seven days was this cruel, arrogant Alpha. He wished it were all just a nightmare. But the indelible marks on his body recorded every moment of those memories.
Growing up in such a poor family, the thing he heard most often was to obey and serve an Alpha. You couldn’t oppose an Alpha’s wishes, and you certainly couldn’t betray one. Now that this had happened, Xie Mo found it impossible to accept.
