The Beautiful Wife I Picked Up Is A Little Mute - Chapter 40
Chapter 40: Have You Seen Him?
Zhou Minghe dragged Xie Mo deep into the forest, only releasing him once they had reached a safe distance from the building.
He spoke irritably: “Couldn’t you just stay in the car? What did you come down for!”
Seeing Xie Mo frantically gesturing with his hands, Zhou Minghe froze for a moment and asked tentatively, “You… can’t speak?”
Before Xie Mo could answer, Zhou Minghe understood. He pulled Xie Mo back toward where the car was parked, muttering, “You could have warned me… Where do you live? I’ll find someone to take you back.”
If it were anyone else, Zhou Minghe would have treated this as a shared adventure. But the person was mute; bringing a disabled person along to seek “thrills” in the middle of the night felt a bit immoral.
Xie Mo shook his head repeatedly, stubbornly pointing toward the building. Zhou Minghe was baffled. “You mean, you want me to send you over there just so you can be shot dead in an instant?”
Zhou Minghe didn’t believe Xie Mo hadn’t heard that gunshot earlier. A flash of fear crossed Xie Mo’s face, but he soon took a deep breath, his eyes becoming resolute. This scene made Zhou Minghe think of a rabbit in a movie—looking fragile, yet possessing surprising courage.
Minutes ticked by. Aside from Ji Hanyue, everyone else present seemed to have infinite patience. As long as Kou Xingying kept the gun pointed, they had to wait for the perfect moment to act. But it was as if she had a sixth sense; the muzzle remained pressed against Tang Yingrui, unshakable.
“Kou Xingying, what exactly are your conditions?” Kou Xingyu said after a long silence.
Kou Xingying remained unhurried, tilting her chin toward a subordinate. The man immediately produced a lighter and lit a cigarette for her. Through the curling smoke, she narrowed her eyes, her tone lazy and drawn out.
“Xingyu, during those days abroad, I really missed you. We are biological siblings; it isn’t too much to want you to stay a bit longer, is it?”
The nicotine seeped into her nerves, stabilizing her excited mood. She could even chat calmly with Kou Xingyu now. “Xingyu, I’ve checked this Alpha for you. The hardware has a problem—it won’t ‘get up.'”
She intentionally clicked her tongue. “I didn’t expect you to enjoy a Platonic relationship with an Alpha.”
These words unexpectedly made Tang Yingrui feel a bit better. If it weren’t for his damaged gland, he would certainly be the one on top. Kou Xingying certainly had a sharp eye for people.
However, the train of thought was violently torn apart by a piercing gunshot. In that instant, Tang Yingrui’s heart nearly stopped. He instinctively squeezed his eyes shut—the terror of death almost swallowed him whole.
But the expected pain never came. After a few seconds, he could still clearly feel the rise and fall of his own breath. Several more gunshots rang out, each one soul-shaking.
Opening his eyes slowly, he saw the Alphas who had been restraining him had let go; they lay peacefully on the floor, dark red blood pooling from their chests.
In an almost subconscious reaction, Tang Yingrui flipped over and grabbed Kou Xingying’s slender wrist that held the gun.
Bang—Bang—Bang—
Several shots hit the floor in succession until the chamber clicked empty.
The aura around Kou Xingying turned terrifyingly cold. Her exquisite face twisted with rage. She stared wide-eyed as a flood of black-clad men armed with weapons poured into the room. At their head was an Alpha whose gaze was cold as frost, his dark suit wrapped in an overwhelming presence.
“I hate Enigmas the most.” Cui Yejin frowned, his face full of disgust. Today was his birthday, a rare day off, yet it had been turned into a mess by Kou Xingying’s drama.
Having been humiliated in public, Tang Yingrui hadn’t even reacted before he was hoisted up like a helpless chick, roughly dragged in front of Kou Xingying. A sharp blade was instantly pressed against his neck. With just a little pressure, blood began to flow uncontrollably.
“I hate being interrupted most of all,” Kou Xingying said in a chilling voice.
One of the black-clad men, emboldened by their numbers, couldn’t help but talk back. In the next second, a flash of cold light flew through the air—a throwing knife pierced his heart with precision. He fell straight down.
Tang Yingrui had just breathed a sigh of relief when Kou Xingying’s hand suddenly clamped around his throat, tightening more and more. She whispered against his ear: “Even without a weapon, I can still kill you.”
The veins on Tang Yingrui’s neck bulged, his face turning blue from the strangulation. His eyes met Kou Xingyu’s anxious expression nearby, but he turned his face away.
He managed to squeeze a sentence through his teeth: “Threatening him with me… is useless.”
Surrounded by the crowd, Kou Xingying remained composed. Her fingertips, painted with dark red polish, tapped against Tang Yingrui’s carotid artery as she let out a light laugh. “Useless? I think it’s working quite well. Kou Xingyu called so many people here for you; he values you very much.”
Just as Cui Yejin was about to lose patience and give the order, Ji Hanyue suddenly pressed down on his wrist. Ji Hanyue stepped through the layers of black-clad men. His gaze swept over Tang Yingrui’s pathetic state without lingering for a second. Finally, his eyes landed directly on Kou Xingying.
“I have just one question. Once I ask it, I’m leaving.”
Kou Xingying had no impression of Ji Hanyue, so even though he had been standing in the back for a long time, she hadn’t ordered anyone to move against him. “What question?” she asked curiously.
“When you kidnapped Tang Yingrui, did you see an Omega?”
Tang Yingrui’s entire body shuddered, and the bloody foam in his throat nearly choked his airway. He snapped his head up, reflexively staring at the tall Alpha.
He heard the Alpha continue to describe: “About eighteen or nineteen years old, a mute. If you’ve seen him, please let me know.”
Kou Xingying lowered her eyelids, appearing to truly think about it. Just as she was about to open her lips, Tang Yingrui suddenly shouted urgently: “There was only me in the car! What Omega are you talking about?!”
Though he didn’t know why this Alpha was searching for Xie Mo, he knew that keeping it a secret was the best choice.
His throat was squeezed hard again, large bruises appearing. Kou Xingying’s hand tightened in a fit of rage. “I am talking! Can you shut up!”
The force grew tighter; Tang Yingrui’s vision began to black out, his eyes rolling back from suffocation. Just as he was about to be strangled to death, Kou Xingying suddenly let go.
The sniper had finally fired. The bullet grazed Tang Yingrui’s ear and hit the back of Kou Xingying’s neck. A large cluster of muscle there absorbed the impact; it wouldn’t kill her, but it was enough to stop her.
