Chapter 30: Do You Have Emojis?
Even after being “escorted” back to his dorm, Xu Jingchu was still relishing the kiss from earlier.
He used to think it was strange for two men to kiss, but now…
It still felt strange, but he didn’t dislike it. In fact, he quite liked it. It was a bit magical.
“What are you smiling at?” His roommate Hao Nan’s head suddenly popped up.
Xu Jingchu paused. “I’m not smiling.”
“Here,” Hao Nan held out his phone to use as a mirror. “The corners of your mouth are practically reaching your ears.”
In the reflection of the dark screen, the beautiful boy’s lips were indeed curved upward; he was clearly in a great mood.
Xu Jingchu blinked. He… really was smiling.
“Why is the corner of your mouth torn?” Hao Nan suddenly leaned in closer to ask.
Xu Jingchu touched the broken skin. This was caused accidentally by Huo Yan while they were kissing. After a moment of thought, he asked very bluntly, “Have you ever kissed your friends on the mouth?”
“Pfft— Cough, cough, cough!” Poor Hao Nan was so shocked by the directness of the question that he nearly choked on his own saliva.
With a flushed face, he stammered, “What… what kind of friend? Who kisses their friends on the mouth!”
Seeing his intense reaction, Xu Jingchu rephrased: “Have you ever kissed your Alpha friend on the mouth?”
Hao Nan: “…”
He grew shy. “Why are you asking that?”
Xu Jingchu answered honestly, “Huo Yan kissed me.” He pointed to his lips. “Right here. He bit the corner of my mouth.”
Hao Nan: “…?”
He stared with wide eyes as if he were meeting Xu Jingchu for the first time. He hadn’t expected him to be so straightforward.
Seeing him just staring without speaking, Xu Jingchu was puzzled. “What’s wrong? Do you think it’s strange too?”
Hao Nan nearly lost his breath. This… was this a matter of it being “strange” or not? How did he manage to say such things with such a pure and innocent expression?
Seeing that Hao Nan remained silent, Xu Jingchu simply turned to get his clothes from the wardrobe to take a shower.
It wasn’t until his hand was on the bathroom door handle that Hao Nan snapped out of it and grabbed him. “Wait, wait a minute!”
Xu Jingchu’s expression was calm. “What?”
Hao Nan looked at him. “Were you just bragging to me?”
“Bragging?” Xu Jingchu blinked blankly. “Bragging about what?”
Hao Nan: “…”
He took a deep breath and answered the earlier question: “We’ve kissed.”
Xu Jingchu’s eyes lit up slightly. “Did it feel good?”
Hao Nan choked again, his face turning even redder. “It… it felt good.” Being kissed by an Alpha you liked was naturally pleasurable; it was the instinct of an Omega.
Xu Jingchu felt like he had discovered something incredible. “You don’t find it strange?”
“Why would I?” Hao Nan asked, confused.
“Men kissing men,” Xu Jingchu said. “Isn’t it odd?”
Hao Nan looked him up and down with a bizarre look, as if he were looking at an alien.
Xu Jingchu felt uncharacteristically self-conscious. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
Hao Nan muttered, “I think you’re the strange one. Men kissing men isn’t exactly…” big news.
Before he could finish, Xu Jingchu’s phone chimed with a text.
[Best Friend: Arrived home.]
Xu Jingchu held the phone with both hands, looking down to type.
[Getting ready to shower.]
Catching a glimpse of this “reporting-my-status” style of texting, Hao Nan immediately forgot his unfinished sentence. He poked Xu Jingchu’s shoulder. “I say, since you don’t lack money or data, why don’t you download a chat app? It would be much more convenient.”
Xu Jingchu’s fingers paused. “Convenient?”
Hao Nan immediately pulled out his phone and opened a green chat app (WeChat). “See this? Besides sending texts, you can send all sorts of vivid emojis. You can even hold this button to send voice messages. It’s very handy.”
What he really wanted to say was: Isn’t this much more interesting than your stiff, formal texting?
Xu Jingchu’s gaze locked onto an emoji of a rabbit being pinned down for a kiss. He blinked once, then twice.
“This…” He pointed at the “pin-down-and-kiss” emoji. “If I download the app, can I have this too?”
Hao Nan nodded. “Not just that, there are tons of them. Look…”
At the bathroom door, two heads huddled together, scrolling enthusiastically through various funny emojis. A moment later, Xu Jingchu shoved his phone into Hao Nan’s hand, his eyes sparkling. “Help me download it.”
By the time Xu Jingchu finished his shower, Hao Nan had finished the installation. “First, we need to register an account.”
With Hao Nan’s help, an account was created. When it came time to enter a nickname, Xu Jingchu bluntly typed in his real name.
Hao Nan’s mouth twitched. “You don’t have to use your real name for a nickname. You can think of a screen name.”
“A screen name?” Xu Jingchu frowned slightly. “Can’t I use my real name?”
“You can, but it’s a bit weird. Very few people use their real name as a nickname unless it’s necessary.”
Xu Jingchu asked humbly, “What counts as ‘necessary’?”
Hao Nan: “…”
He gave up explaining. “What does Huo Yan usually call you?”
Xu Jingchu paused. “Chubao.”
Actually, Huo Yan had only called him “Chubao” once tonight, but he liked it when the other called him that. It felt very intimate. He liked being close to Huo Yan.
Hao Nan choked again at the natural way he said it. “Then call yourself ‘Chubao’ on the app.” He muttered, “Anyway, it’s better than a real name…”
Xu Jingchu accepted the suggestion and slowly tapped out the characters for “Chubao.”
Hao Nan opened his QR code. “Come on, let’s scan and add each other. I’ll send those emojis to you.”
Xu Jingchu looked up and said slowly, “No.”
Hao Nan: “…?”
Xu Jingchu hugged his phone and crawled back onto his bed. “I want my first friend to be Huo Yan. You can send me the emojis next time.”
Hao Nan: “…” Was this what they call ‘discarding the bridge after crossing it’?!
The “bridge-discarding” Xu Jingchu was currently under his covers, sending a text to Huo Yan.
[Brother Yan, do you have emojis?]
On the other end.
Huo Yan looked at the message with a solemn expression. After a moment, he dialed Secretary Shen’s number. “Come to Linfeng immediately!”
Linfeng was where Huo Yan was currently living.
At 10:30 PM, Secretary Shen, who had already finished work and gone home, received the Big Boss’s call. He threw on a jacket and rushed over in a panic.
Huo Yan gripped his phone. “Do you have emojis?”
Secretary Shen: “…?”
He thought he had hallucinated because he ran too fast. “What?”
Huo Yan frowned. “Emojis. Do you have them?”
Secretary Shen: “…”
He swallowed hard. “Boss, you called me here this late… just to ask if I have emojis?”
Huo Yan countered, “Is there a problem?”
Secretary Shen: “…” Is it a matter of whether I have a problem? I’m off the clock!
Huo Yan said calmly, “I’ll count this as triple overtime pay.”
Secretary Shen immediately whipped out his phone. “Boss, what kind of emojis do you need?”
