Chapter 15: The Villain and the Protagonist Shou
In his dreams, Huo Yan had loved that person to the point of desperation.
Ever since that individual appeared, Huo Yan seemed possessed, doing all sorts of ridiculous things that were completely out of character. Eventually, based on nothing more than a verbal promise from that person, he handed over the company his father had left him to Huo Yun, leading to a series of tragic consequences.
Yes, the person lying on the ground was none other than the “Protagonist Shou” from his dream—Xu Yiqiu.
Huo Yan had thought about it seriously: even if he hadn’t met Xu Jingchu, given his actual personality, he would never have done something so moronic. The events in the dream felt less like his own actions and more like he was being manipulated by an invisible hand, forced to follow someone else’s will. Whether it was losing his mind over this so-called protagonist or giving away his father’s legacy, neither was something he would ever do.
He couldn’t possibly do it.
Huo Yan looked down at Xu Yiqiu with eyes as dark and cold as ice. Despite both being Omegas, this person couldn’t compare to his Chuchu in the slightest.
Xu Yiqiu’s heart was racing. He lay motionless on the ground, waiting for the villain to pick him up and rush him to the hospital as he “planned.”
He had already decided: Huo Yun was a brainless idiot. Without the “Protagonist Gong” plot armor, he wouldn’t even be fit to carry the villain’s shoes. Why would he choose a useless fool over a mature, handsome, wealthy, and superior man who was supposed to love him devotedly?
But soon, Xu Yiqiu heard the villain’s cold voice: “Someone collapsed at the intersection of XXX road. Come handle it, and remember to check the surveillance footage.”
The villain is… calling someone else to deal with me?
Before Xu Yiqiu could react, the man standing beside him turned and walked away without a hint of lingering attachment. The villain didn’t even touch him!
A crack appeared in Xu Yiqiu’s pale facade; he nearly jumped up in frustration. To establish a connection with the villain, he had intentionally eaten only one meal a day recently to look frail and thin, all to trigger the villain’s protective instincts. He thought fate was on his side when he recognized the car from afar and staged this “accident,” but what was wrong with the villain? Why didn’t he carry him to the hospital?
According to the book’s setting, he was the Protagonist Shou and the villain was his “simp” (licking dog). The moment he appeared, the villain should have come wagging his tail. Why did he just leave? Did he not see his face?
Thud— Hearing the car door close, Xu Yiqiu peeked his eyes open.
The next moment, his pupils shrank. Who was that in the passenger seat?
Xu Yiqiu searched his memory frantically but found no mention of such a person in the original plot. At least, not in the parts he knew. Who was this person? Why were they in Huo Yan’s passenger seat?
As the Maybach drove past him, shock made him forget to pretend to be unconscious. He locked eyes with Xu Jingchu, who was poking his head out of the window.
It’s an Omega. An incredibly beautiful Omega!
Xu Yiqiu’s expression soured. According to the story, before the villain met him, the passenger seat of that car was always empty.
So, who on earth was this Omega?!
Inside the Car
Xu Jingchu looked at the man in the driver’s seat with bright eyes. “Huo Yan, that person really was a fraud.”
Just moments ago, Huo Yan had told him: “It’s a scammer. I’ve already asked Secretary Shen to handle it.”
Xu Jingchu breathed a sigh of relief. As long as no one was actually hit.
Huo Yan’s slender hands gripped the steering wheel. “If you ever encounter people like that in the future, you can call me.”
Xu Jingchu asked playfully, “Call you for what?”
The man’s deep, gentle voice called his name first. “Chuchu…”
Xu Jingchu’s ears tingled. “Hmm?”
“I want to protect you,” Huo Yan said.
Xu Jingchu froze. Aside from his poor health in his past life, the people around him had always been kind, but this was the first time someone had said those words to him so directly… I want to protect you.
Xu Jingchu touched his burning earlobes and whispered, “Huo Yan, are you this good to all your friends?”
“Friends?” Huo Yan’s fingers paused. He glanced at the innocent boy beside him. “No.”
He added, “Before I met you, I didn’t have any friends.”
It was hard to imagine that such a refined and elegant man would have no friends at all. Xu Jingchu was stunned; he had assumed a man like Huo Yan would be surrounded by people.
Vrrr— Vrrr— Huo Yan’s phone rang.
Seeing the caller ID, the man’s grip on the wheel tightened, and the warmth in his eyes faded. Xu Jingchu glanced at the vibrating phone and saw the words “Second Aunt.” Remembering the question Huo Yan asked him in the restroom yesterday, Xu Jingchu looked away and didn’t pry.
The phone vibrated until the call timed out, but it immediately started again. Still “Second Aunt.”
The third time, the name changed to “Second Uncle.” The fourth time, it was “Huo Yun.”
Huo Yan kept his lips pressed thin and refused to answer. Anyone could see he was in a foul mood.
Vrrr— Vrrr— Vrrr—
Seeing that the other side had no intention of stopping, Xu Jingchu puffed out his cheeks, reached over, and simply turned the phone off.
Finally, the world was quiet.
Xu Jingchu tilted his head. “Will you blame me for taking the liberty of turning off your phone?”
Huo Yan was taken aback. His rigid upbringing and manners meant he never considered simply hanging up or turning off the device. Looking at the boy’s slightly mischievous expression, he suddenly felt that the “family” on the other end of the line wasn’t that important after all.
“No,” Huo Yan said. “You did well, Chuchu.”
The corners of Xu Jingchu’s mouth curled up, the mole under his eye shimmering like a lighting star. “If you don’t like something, don’t force yourself to endure it. The same goes for people. If they won’t leave you alone, just do what I did—out of sight, out of mind.”
The Maybach stopped at a red light.
Xu Jingchu hesitated, then asked, “Huo Yan, do you need a hug?”
At this moment, he completely forgot he hadn’t even washed his face yet.
“Is this also a form of comfort?” Huo Yan asked.
“No,” Xu Jingchu winked. “This is encouragement from a friend.”
Huo Yan gazed at him intensely. “Just a friend?”
Xu Jingchu blinked in confusion. “Huh?”
Meanwhile, at the Huo Residence
Huo Yun slammed his phone onto the ground in a rage.
Smash! The device broke into three pieces.
“What the hell does that monster think he’s doing? We didn’t even kick him out, and he dares to move out without a word?!”
“He even dares to ignore our calls!” Huo’s Second Aunt was equally livid. “If we hadn’t taken him in all these years, he’d be sleeping on the streets!”
“Why would he suddenly move out?” Huo’s Second Uncle’s face was grim. “Could he have… noticed something?”
