Chapter 4: Is President Lu a Primary School Student?
Lu Siyang pulled out his phone to check the calendar and said nonchalantly, “Keep stalling for now. Liu Jingguang’s sixtieth birthday is in a few months; I’ll make a personal trip then.”
The regular meeting ended at noon. He hurriedly finished lunch and spent the entire afternoon in his office approving documents until his head felt like it was going to explode.
Lu Siyang stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, opening a small crack. At a height of thirty stories, the cool early autumn evening breeze became even more fierce, rushing in with a “whoosh” and instantly diluting much of the irritability in his mind.
The horizon was dyed orange-red by the setting sun. The concrete forest of the city could finally pause its hustle and bustle, soon to enter the revelry of late night. Lu Siyang’s gaze fell upon the four large words “Rongfei Building Materials” on the LED advertising screen of the office building opposite, a cold light flashing in his eyes.
Dazzling lights and deafening music filled the entire bar. Under the triple stimulation of lights, music, and alcohol, twisting bodies on the dance floor exuded a ready-to-burst excitement, their bodies pressed together almost skin-to-skin. Under the reflection of the multicolored lights, the glass cups emitted a dazing, eerie halo.
Lu Siyang sat with his legs crossed, leaning boredly in the booth, his fingers unconsciously playing with his car keys. The young master sitting beside him took the wine from the waiter and filled everyone’s glasses one by one. “Why is President Lu so distracted?”
The others noticed as well and joined in the teasing.
“Exactly. You’re the one who invited us out, yet you’re the one not talking?”
“Who offended our President Lu?”
“It couldn’t be a breakup, could it?”
Lu Siyang ignored their banter, took a sip from his glass, and then spoke: “Rongfei Building Materials—have you heard of it?”
One of the young masters replied, “Rongfei Building Materials? I think… I have an impression. What’s wrong?”
Lu Siyang’s brow seemed to be frozen with a layer of frost; he snorted coldly and did not speak. The people present exchanged looks, understanding perfectly.
Seeing this, Lu Siyang curled his lips. Everyone in this circle was a shrewd expert; as long as he expressed his stance casually, someone would naturally rush to do the dirty work for him. There was no need for him to waste his own effort.
“Fine, you guys have fun, I’m heading back,” Lu Siyang stood up and nodded toward the wine bottles on the table with his chin. “Drink whatever you want; today is on me.”
After saying that, he walked toward the bar entrance.
Passing through the crowded dance floor, he had only taken a few steps before someone bumped directly into his shoulder. The newcomer had broad shoulders and long legs, a buzz cut paired with a black shirt, the collar wide open, revealing half a tattoo on his chest.
“We meet again,” Fang Lv curled his lips, his deep grey eyes reflecting the shifting light and shadows of the laser lamps in the bar. “President Lu.”
The cold scent of sandalwood drifted into his nose. Lu Siyang’s mind wavered for a split second. He swept a glance at Fang Lv with the corner of his eye and continued walking forward.
Fang Lv, however, suddenly shifted his body and blocked him.
Lu Siyang frowned. “Something the matter?”
Fang Lv didn’t care about his attitude at all, leaning diagonally against the bar counter with a reckless, casual air. “Why is President Lu so cold?”
“Mr. Fang,” Lu Siyang looked up, seriously scrutinizing the man in front of him. “I thought you understood that since you accepted my money, we are even. Besides—we aren’t close enough for you to be worth my time to stop and chat.”
After speaking, he moved around Fang Lv and walked out without looking back.
Fang Lv straightened up, the smile on his lips suddenly vanishing, and the flippancy in his eyes faded away completely…
Walking out of the bar entrance, Lu Siyang irritably rubbed his temples. He admitted that the first experience last night indeed tasted wonderful. However, that couldn’t change the fact that Fang Lv was the type of person he disliked most.
Lu Siyang was used to being supported as a superior; he was used to being in control. But when facing Fang Lv, the other’s gaze always gave him a feeling that his thoughts were being laid bare. He didn’t like this feeling at all—no, it should be said that nobody likes the feeling of having their inner thoughts speculated upon at will.
This was the peak hour for the bar, and the back-alley parking lot was packed to the brim. Today, Lu Siyang had driven his new favorite, a LaFerrari; its flashy bright red was easy to spot in the sea of cars.
He unlocked the car and was about to open the door when his footsteps suddenly paused.
Wait…
He took two steps back and leaned down to look.
Fck, there was actually a long scratch on the car bumper! Looking at the marks, it seemed like some car had scraped against the bumper as it passed, gouging out a deep line and peeling the paint.
Feeling the uneven scratch, a fire flickered in Lu Siyang’s heart. He looked around and finally discovered a camera at the corner of the alley. With a dark face, Lu Siyang went back into the bar.
He negotiated with the duty manager for a long time, but the other party claimed he didn’t have the authority to access the surveillance. A moment before Lu Siyang’s patience ran out, the duty manager led him to the bar owner’s office.
As if he had a premonition, Lu Siyang wasn’t surprised in the slightest when he saw Fang Lv sitting on the leather sofa.
“President Lu,” Fang Lv’s narrow eyes swept over his face as he pointed to the single sofa opposite. “Please, sit.”
Lu Siyang sat down unceremoniously and went straight to the point: “My car was scraped in your bar’s parking lot. Give me the surveillance footage.”
“Hmm?” Fang Lv leaned back against the sofa, saying lazily, “Our relationship doesn’t seem to be close enough for me to specifically access surveillance for you, right?”
The words Lu Siyang had spoken a few minutes ago were sent right back to him by Fang Lv, completely unchanged.
Hearing this, Lu Siyang stood up to leave. The moment he pulled the door open, an arm reached over past his ear. With fingers spread, a hand with distinct knuckles pressed against the door, pushing it back shut just as it had opened a crack.
“Why is President Lu in such a hurry?” Fang Lv stood behind him, his index finger teasingly hooking Lu Siyang’s collar, saying unhurriedly, “I didn’t say I wouldn’t give it to you.”
Lu Siyang turned around to avoid Fang Lv’s hand, a hint of annoyance surfacing in his eyes.
“Don’t look at me with that kind of gaze, otherwise—” Fang Lv leaned in a few inches closer, his warm breath spraying against Lu Siyang’s ear. “You know the consequences.”
It felt as if a layer of scorching heat was rising around him. Lu Siyang took a step back, his back leaning against the door panel. Fang Lv took a step forward, trapping him between his body and the door. The hand that had been pressing against the door suddenly moved to his waist; the burning heat of the palm made Lu Siyang’s back stiffen.
He propped up his elbows, forcing a bit of distance between them, and said in a heavy voice, “Boss Fang, you had better be clear about what you are doing right now!”
“I am very clear,” Fang Lv let out a light laugh, looking down into his eyes with a surge of turbulence in his own. “Consider it interest for retrieving the surveillance for President Lu.”
Lu Siyang reached out to seize the hand making trouble at his waist, his tone laced with annoyance: “If you touch me one more time, I’m calling the police!”
Fang Lv’s expression suddenly froze, and he lowered his head, his chin resting against the side of Lu Siyang’s neck. Lu Siyang felt the other’s shoulders tremble twice, and a low laughter came from beside his ear: “Is President Lu a primary school student?”
