Chapter 17: Hidden Beauty in a Golden House
Song Ning, seeing his ‘guilty as charged’ expression, grew even more excited: “You haven’t actually hidden a beauty in a golden house, have you? Aren’t you going to bring them out for the brothers to see?”
Hidden beauty in a golden house?
In an instant, an image flashed through Lu Siyang’s mind: Fang Lv wearing that pink checkered halter apron, exposing his lean, sturdy upper body and bulging muscular arms, holding a spatula while frying eggs.
If he stretched the definition, calling him a “hidden beauty” wasn’t entirely impossible…
While thinking this, he retorted, “Look at what? There’s nothing to see.”
The others exchanged looks, stifling their laughter.
After a round of play, Lu Siyang tossed down his chips and stood up: “Alright, you guys have fun. I have to head out first.”
Song Ning looked surprised: “No way, it’s still early. You’re leaving already?”
Lu Siyang said half-joking, half-serious: “You’re the one who said I’ve got a beauty hidden at home. If that’s the case, I’d better get back early so my ‘beauty’ doesn’t get impatient waiting.”
“Why are you shoving dog food down our throats out of nowhere!” Song Ning frowned and waved him off. “Go, get out of here, go, go!”
Honey, who had been clinging to Lu Siyang’s side, saw him leaving. His eyes darted around, and he stood up as well: “President Lu, let me see you out.”
Lu Siyang glanced at him and didn’t refuse. Honey’s face lit up with joy as he followed Lu Siyang out.
Once they reached the first floor and before they even left the main hall, Honey couldn’t wait any longer and grabbed his arm. This intimate closeness made Lu Siyang extremely uncomfortable; his scalp tingled, and he wanted to pull his arm away.
Honey noticed his intention and held on even tighter: “President Lu, didn’t we agree to go to my place and ‘think’ about it properly…”
“Is that what I said?” Thinking of the man who had met with Wang Fa, Lu Siyang suppressed the urge to yank his arm away. He intentionally looked around the empty parking lot and said with a wicked smile, “Isn’t it the same to ‘think’ about it here?”
Honey said with a coquettish pout, “President Lu, you’re so bad.”
“Think hard. If you remember, this—” Lu Siyang pulled a blank check from his pocket and waved it in front of Honey, “will be yours.”
The moment he saw the check, Honey’s eyes went straight: “President Lu, you… what exactly is going on between you and Wang Fa? Why do you need to know about the man who met him…”
Seeing Lu Siyang’s face suddenly darken, Honey shut his mouth immediately. In this circle, the less you knew, the better.
Honey’s gaze kept darting toward the check as he said with a smile, “President Lu, give me some time to let me think it over slowly. I’ll definitely remember.”
Lu Siyang held the check between his fingers and patted Honey’s face with satisfaction: “That would be for the best. I—”
But before he could finish his sentence, Lu Siyang’s spine stiffened, and he froze on the spot. The rest of his words were swallowed back down.
Seeing Lu Siyang’s expression change as he stared ahead, Honey followed his gaze.
Under a streetlamp dozens of meters away stood a black Cullinan. A man dressed in a pure black suit leaned against the car door, a lit cigarette between his fingers. The dim yellow light of the streetlamp illuminated his excessively sharp profile.
The man looked over, and that single, light glance was like a cold, condensed blade. The powerful sense of oppression made Honey instinctively shrink toward Lu Siyang.
To his surprise, Lu Siyang acted as if he had been burned and violently shook off Honey’s arms.
Honey looked at Lu Siyang in confusion: “P-President Lu?”
Lu Siyang turned his head, his intentionally lowered voice carrying an inexplicable chill: “Get lost.”
Honey was so scared his face turned white, and he scurried back into the hall.
The moment he saw Fang Lv, Lu Siyang actually felt like he’d been caught ‘cheating’ on the spot. Just now, half of Honey’s body had been practically leaning against him, and he was still holding that damn check in his hand. Paired with the multi-colored, suggestive LED billboards at the entrance of Bishui Bay, it looked exactly like a transaction scene…
Their voices while talking and flirting hadn’t been intentionally lowered; he didn’t know how much Fang Lv had heard. Would Fang Lv… misunderstand seeing such a scene?
He looked over, gazing at Fang Lv from across the night. White smoke curled up from Fang Lv’s fingers. Those light gray eyes, under the streetlamp, were like bottomless pools, calm and without a single ripple.
Lu Siyang pursed his lips. So what if he misinterprets? What do I have to be guilty about? His relationship with Fang Lv was nothing, so why did he care so much about what Fang Lv thought?
Thinking this, Lu Siyang’s rapidly beating heart gradually slowed down. He smoothed out his crumpled sleeve and started walking toward Fang Lv.
Seeing him approach, Fang Lv straightened up, took a drag of his cigarette, and crushed it out in the trash can.
“Let’s go.”
Then, he opened the driver’s side door and got in first.
All the lines Lu Siyang had prepared in his head turned out to be useless. Fang Lv… actually didn’t ask a single thing.
After standing dazed for a few seconds, he opened the door and got into the car. Fang Lv’s indifferent reaction left Lu Siyang feeling a bit stunned. He had thought that upon seeing such a situation, even if the other man didn’t fly into a rage, he would at least ask a few probing questions. He hadn’t expected Fang Lv not to say a single word.
Lu Siyang breathed deeply in the small space, the familiar sandalwood scent so cool that one could barely feel any emotion or warmth from it. He felt his head becoming more and more muddled. He couldn’t say exactly why, but Lu Siyang felt a bit annoyed.
A surge of nameless anger rushed straight to his head.
With a clatter, he slammed the car door hard and pulled over his seatbelt irritably. Catching Fang Lv’s gaze out of the corner of his eye, he crossed his arms with a blank face, pretending not to notice.
It took quite a while before Fang Lv stepped on the gas and the car began to move slowly. Lu Siyang’s chest felt stifled, but he didn’t want to say anything. He tilted his body to the side, staring out the window.
Looking out through the privacy film on the car window, the pitch-black night seemed even deeper. Trees with yellow leaves by the roadside flew past, and the streetlamps left behind hidden among the branches glowed with an orange-red light. The speed gradually increased, and the orange-red dots of light slowly stretched into lines.
Lu Siyang pressed his fingers against the door handle, his mind filled with a mess of questions. Why did Fang Lv have no reaction after seeing that scene just now? If it were him, he would have probably grabbed Honey by the collar and pinned him against the wall on the spot.
After thinking for a long time, Lu Siyang finally found a suitable reason for Fang Lv, and the only reason—Fang Lv merely treated him as an ordinary bed partner, and nothing more. Right, that was the most authentic relationship between them. Those unrealistic fantasies were just his own one-sided delusions.
Thinking of this, his hand on the door tightened, his fingertips turning white from the force. Lu Siyang took a long, silent breath, attempting to force out the sense of frustration trapped in his chest.
After a while, Lu Siyang, watching the scenery outside, began to feel that something was wrong. This road… didn’t seem like the way home.
He whipped his head around, frowning as he looked at Fang Lv and asked, “Where are you taking me?”
“You noticed?” Fang Lv’s eyes were fixed ahead, his tone flat. “You’ll know when we get there.”
Lu Siyang froze. He wasn’t going to tell him? What was this about? After hesitating for a moment, strong curiosity urged him to find out.
“You—” Lu Siyang opened his mouth, but his throat suddenly felt dry. A short, raspy sound came from his throat, as if his inner pride had forcibly interrupted his speech. Lu Siyang’s cheeks heated up, and he coughed to cover it up.
Fang Lv suddenly spoke up and asked: “Finished all your work?”
The flat tone made it impossible for him to tell if the man was being caring or intentionally sarcastic. Lu Siyang turned his head quickly, wanting to see Fang Lv’s expression at that moment. Just then, a car approached from the opposite direction, its high beams flashing twice. In the interplay of light and shadow, he only saw Fang Lv’s eyes light up under the glow.
Lu Siyang suddenly felt inexplicably guilty. He gave a “Mmh,” and asked nonchalantly, “How did you know I was there?”
Fang Lv didn’t speak; the hand gripping the steering wheel moved almost imperceptibly.
Lu Siyang shifted from leaning against the door to sitting up straight. He rested his arm on the center console, pretending to be casual as he looked at Fang Lv. On that expressionless face, his features appeared even colder and harder, and his lips were tightly pursed.
Lu Siyang’s pupils flickered, and he immediately withdrew his gaze.
Was Fang Lv… actually angry?
This sudden and absurd thought jumped out. Lu Siyang’s eyes crinkled for a moment before he quickly returned to normal.
The red light came on, and Fang Lv stepped on the brake. While shifting gears, his fingertip accidentally brushed against the back of Lu Siyang’s hand. The icy sensation made Lu Siyang snap his arm back.
Why was Fang Lv’s hand so cold?
Remembering that when he saw Fang Lv earlier, the man had a slight nasal tone when he spoke… he must have been waiting outside for a long time.
Lu Siyang quietly watched Fang Lv’s hand on the steering wheel and suddenly said in a low voice, “I’m sorry.”
However, these words were blurted out without going through his brain. After saying them, Lu Siyang regretted it. His behavior tonight… he indeed knew he was in the wrong, but to put it bluntly, it was because of what happened last time; the discomfort in his heart had led him to make this decision today.
Thinking of this, Lu Siyang shifted his gaze back to the window, his chilly tone carrying a bit of defiance: “Fang Lv, you know what happened before, so I won’t hold a grudge anymore. Since that’s the case, one for one, we’re even now.”
Fang Lv nodded without looking away from the road: “Okay.”
This lukewarm attitude gave Lu Siyang the illusion of punching cotton, and his anger flared up again. But since he had just said he wouldn’t hold a grudge, it wasn’t right to lose his temper again, so he just kept his face dark and stopped talking.
Ten-odd minutes later, looking at the increasingly familiar scenery outside the window, Lu Siyang couldn’t help but feel slightly surprised in his heart.
