- The Amnesiac, Sickly Beauty Is Pregnant With My Dragon Cub
- Chapter 52.2 - The Evil Dragon Grows Resentful; Even Honey is Not as Sweet as My Lady
The skin of Yu Xuanji’s wrist was smooth and tender, carrying a faint, cool fragrance. Cang Lan loved it immensely and wanted to stay coiled around her forever, unwilling to part for even a moment.
Cang Lan asked again, “Then has my Lady ever seen another dragon in the world outside?”
Yu Xuanji shook her head: “Never. I have only ever seen you.”
Cang Lan seemed to breathe a sigh of relief: “That’s good then. The Old Phoenix said that I am the only dragon left in this world. The dragon race went extinct ten thousand years ago. I was a dragon egg scattered in the mortal realm, absorbing the essence of heaven and earth, and it took a very long time for me to hatch.”
Hearing this, Yu Xuanji gently stroked Cang Lan’s tiny mini-horn with her fingertip, but her gaze drifted toward the distance: “So that’s how it was.”
Cang Lan nodded and said, “Yes. Before I met my Lady, I often thought that being the only dragon in the world was inevitably too lonely. I thought about finding a partner to lay a few more eggs with, so that the dragon race could slowly flourish again.”
Yu Xuanji’s hand, which was stroking Cang Lan’s horn, slowly stopped: “And then?”
Cang Lan said, “Finding a partner of equal strength is easier said than done. The demons in the Wilderness are all oddly shaped and ugly; I didn’t fancy a single one. Later, the idea was slowly set aside, until I met my Lady.”
Cang Lan’s voice grew involuntarily tender as she slowly transformed back into human form. She held Yu Xuanji in her lap and rubbed her soot-stained nose against her earlobe, saying, “My Lady is the most beautiful person I have ever seen in this world.”
Yu Xuanji, however, said, “Didn’t you just say you wanted to find a partner of equal strength? But I have no strength to even truss a chicken; I am just a mere mortal. I shouldn’t be within your criteria for a mate, so why did you choose me?”
Cang Lan stood on her tiptoes, holding Yu Xuanji and bouncing her legs, tossing her up slightly with a smile: “Naturally, it’s because my Lady is beautiful.”
Yu Xuanji feigned anger and said coldly, “Only because of that? Is there nothing else?”
Cang Lan leaned against Yu Xuanji’s face, rubbing the black soot from her face onto Yu Xuanji’s snow-white, smooth cheek, and said, “How could that be? My love for my Lady is certainly not just out of greed for her beauty, it’s—”
Yu Xuanji followed up immediately: “It’s what?”
Cang Lan thought for a long time but still couldn’t explain exactly why. She said cautiously, “I don’t know why either. That day in the Wilderness, the moment I saw you, my heart beat so fast I felt like it was going to jump out of my throat. I had to forcefully hold it back.”
Cang Lan sighed: “I heard Tushan Bai say that this is called ‘love at first sight.’ From the first moment I saw my Lady, I felt affection, and it has only become more uncontrollable since then.”
Yu Xuanji’s palm pressed against the back of Cang Lan’s hand: “Me too.”
After a while, Huang Liu arrived before them carrying a white fox that had fainted on the ground. She said, “Great King, the underlings found a fox outside. She looks a lot like Tushan Bai.”
Cang Lan took a closer look, and sure enough, it was Tushan Bai, who had fainted out of pure moved bliss after eating the “delicacy” Cang Lan had made. She said, “It’s her. Huang Liu, it seems she has been conquered by my earth-shattering culinary skills. Go and send Tushan Bai back to her fox den. And whatever you do, do not tell her wife that she fell asleep because she ate the food I made.”
Huang Liu gave Cang Lan a salute: “Yes, Great King! This subordinate will definitely follow your words!”
After dealing with all the trivial matters, Cang Lan realized the most important thing: she had forgotten to cook for Yu Xuanji again.
The two looked at each other. Yu Xuanji seemed to sense something, so she got off the bed, went to the now-cleaned kitchen, put on an apron, and began to cook.
Cang Lan followed behind to help. Yu Xuanji asked her to get some flour, but she kept blowing air toward the flour, ended up inhaling it, sneezed, and got covered from head to toe in white flour.
Yu Xuanji asked her to get a few eggs, but Cang Lan held five eggs in one hand and performed a juggling act in front of Yu Xuanji. As a result, her nose felt itchy and she sneezed again. The five eggs in her hand fell to the ground with a splat, shattering into pieces.
In the end, Yu Xuanji had no choice but to usher the mischievous dragon out and close the kitchen door.
She thought she could bake cookies in peace, but when Yu Xuanji looked up, she saw Cang Lan grinning at her through the ventilation vent above her head.
Cang Lan’s head was positioned at the vent. Seeing Yu Xuanji look up, she smiled happily. After inhaling the cooking smoke for a while, Cang Lan started coughing from the fumes. She tried to pull her head out, but unexpectedly, her head got stuck in the narrow ventilation opening.
“…”
Cang Lan originally wanted to ask Yu Xuanji for help, but she forcefully held back. She pretended everything was fine, keeping her head stuck in place while staring at Yu Xuanji kneading the dough.
Yu Xuanji had actually discovered long ago that Cang Lan’s head was stuck. However, since the little dragon was feigning composure and keeping a smile on her face, she pretended not to notice and asked, “A-Lan, you’ve been staring at me like this. Do you want me to knead a cookie that looks just like you?”
Cang Lan didn’t know what a cookie was. Her hands were braced on the outside as she tried to push her head back. She smiled and said, “Yes, yes, what my Lady says is exactly what I was thinking.”
Yu Xuanji curled her lips: “Alright, then just hold on for a bit longer. I’ll have it shaped very soon.”
Outside, An Zhi and Ting Lan were playing jump rope with the Ginseng Baby. They noticed a “black-clothed person” lying on top of the cave roof nearby. Looking closer, the person appeared to have no head, scaring the Ginseng Baby into shrieking: “Sisters! There’s a headless person over there!”
Ting Lan squinted and looked. Seeing the “headless person’s” hands were still moving and that the clothes looked like what the Evil Dragon wore, she breathed a sigh of relief and said, “Oh, it’s fine. That’s the Dragon King. She’s probably doing some kind of ‘flirting play’ with the Master. Just ignore it and let’s keep playing.”
In the end, Cang Lan had to transform back into her dragon form to completely break free from that tiny ventilation vent.
Yu Xuanji had originally intended to make cookies in the style of butter cookies, but on second thought, she came up with a better idea: shaping the dough into animal forms.
First, thinking of Cang Lan, Yu Xuanji effortlessly molded a lifelike little dragon cub with a pair of chubby little horns and big eyes.
As she worked, she felt a sudden burst of inspiration. Following the different forms of a dragon, she created several different poses: some flying, some lying on the ground, some coiled up, and even a little “dragon-person” with horns on the head and a tail behind.
Yu Xuanji couldn’t help but laugh as she worked. She also made several fox heads, panda heads, and wolf heads.
Thinking of the appearance of a weasel, she modeled three cookies after Huang Liu’s original form. Just as she was preparing to put them in the pot to bake, she looked up and saw that the vent was now empty.
The moment the cookies were placed in the pot and Yu Xuanji had just covered it with the lid, a hand appeared from behind her, quietly trying to reach under the lid, only to be caught red-handed by Yu Xuanji.
Yu Xuanji gave Cang Lan’s wrist a firm but gentle squeeze and said, “What are you doing? The cookies need to bake before they can be eaten. Not now; they are still raw inside.”
Cang Lan withdrew her hand as if nothing had happened and said, “But I can already smell their fragrance even before they’re cooked. My Lady is truly amazing; you can make anything.”
Yu Xuanji smiled: “It’s just simple baking. If you want to learn, I’ll teach you. In the future, don’t invent those strange ‘delicacies’ on your own. Some foods are incompatible; eating them can kill a person.”
Cang Lan was stunned and asked very earnestly, “Is what my Lady says true? Ordinary food can actually kill people?”
Yu Xuanji said, “Have you ever heard of Shennong tasting the hundred herbs? Many plants in this world are incompatible and cannot be eaten together, otherwise, they will react and trigger toxicity. You are a divine dragon, so you’re fine, but we mortals would drop dead after eating it.”
Cang Lan was horrified upon hearing this. She quickly grabbed Yu Xuanji’s wrist and said, “Lady, then all those times you ate everything I cooked, was there any danger? Did you feel unwell when you ate it?”
Yu Xuanji thought for a moment and said, “My tongue and throat were slightly uncomfortable, but it was fine. What you make suits my appetite.”
Cang Lan asked aggrievedly, “Then why did Tushan Bai and the others fall asleep right after eating?”
Yu Xuanji suppressed her rising smile and mused, “It’s probably because she was too tired. She has to write stories every day and take care of XiuXiu; maybe she just fell asleep while eating.”
Being easily coaxed by Yu Xuanji like this, Cang Lan was overjoyed. She leaned in to kiss Yu Xuanji’s earlobe and said cheekily, “I knew it; my Lady is the only one in the world who treats me best.”
The cookies baked in the pot for over half an hour, and a faint fragrance began to permeate the kitchen, drifting into Yu Xuanji’s nose in threads.
Yu Xuanji’s legs were dangling off the bed, while Cang Lan was kneeling on the floor, her hands hooked behind Yu Xuanji’s knees.
After smelling the fragrance, Yu Xuanji frowned and pushed away Cang Lan, who was pressing against her and preparing to remove her top: “Don’t ‘eat’ yet; I smell the fragrance of the cookies.”
Cang Lan smacked her lips with a lingering desire. She tugged at Yu Xuanji’s collar and grumbled, “How can cookies be as sweet as my Lady? Even honey is not half as sweet as you. Let me eat a bit more!”
Yu Xuanji was pressed back down by Cang Lan. She was already caught up in the passion of the moment, but using the last shred of her remaining logic, she said, “No, if they bake any longer, they’ll burn. They absolutely cannot burn.”
Ultimately, that last shred of logic triumphed over the desire in her heart. Yu Xuanji pushed Cang Lan away, put on her trousers, tied her belt, and walked out of the bedroom.
Cang Lan licked her wet lips. Like a resentful abandoned wife, she sat cross-legged on the bed with her clothes disheveled and her hair a mess. She stared straight at Yu Xuanji’s back and said with a face full of grievance:
“All you care about is those little cookies, leaving me here all alone in the room. Is my service not good enough?”
