- Chapter 48.1 - The Evil Dragon Feasts, Taking from Both Sides
In the back-and-forth, the two lingered in the room, lost in tenderness for a while longer.
Yu Xuanji and Cang Lan were inseparable, their kisses lingering on jaws and necks. Seeing the other lean in again to kiss her lips, Yu Xuanji quickly pursed her mouth and pointed out the window, signaling for Cang Lan to leave.
Over the past few days, the kissing had lasted too long and occurred too frequently. Every time, Cang Lan would coax and deceive her into deep, tongue-tangling kisses, leaving her sinking daily into a sea of desire.
But as the saying goes, within three steps of a poison, there must be an antidote. After consuming the dragon’s saliva, her body would become extremely depleted. At those times, Cang Lan would bite the tip of her tongue and feed her a few drops of essence blood, making her vibrant and lively again in the blink of an eye.
Since Cang Lan had discovered this pattern, she was eager to pester her every day, much to Yu Xuanji’s feigned distress—though there was certainly a measure of playing hard-to-get involved.
However, the urgent matter at hand was to deal with the flower demon outside. Otherwise, with the two of them being so affectionate and sentimental, it was simply too disrespectful to the demon.
Sure enough, the monster outside grew angry, as the thorny vines wrapped even tighter around Cang Lan’s ankles.
Yu Xuanji pursed her lips. Instead of feeling a shred of fear, she couldn’t help but let out a snort of laughter.
This seemed to infuriate the flower demon even more. In its rage, it began to bloom; even the sharp thorns sprouted dense, tiny flower buds. Looking at it, Yu Xuanji felt her trypophobia was about to be triggered.
Pushing at Cang Lan, Yu Xuanji said, “Lan, go out and catch it quickly. It looks like it’s getting angrier.”
Cang Lan held Yu Xuanji’s waist and flicked away the scale from earlier, laughing. “My lady, catching a tiny flower demon doesn’t require my personal intervention. One scale is enough.”
Yu Xuanji smiled and leaned into Cang Lan’s arms, only to see her pull out another scale and toss it upward, identical to the previous projection.
A flash of silver light appeared, and images and sound began to flow from the scale. The two of them watched a “live broadcast” right inside the room.
In the image, a giant flower demon brandished its claws and bared its fangs, suddenly releasing countless thorny vines that lunged toward Cang Lan’s avatar in a dense mass.
Yu Xuanji gasped at the sight, but Cang Lan watched with interest, laughing. “Don’t be afraid, my lady. It’s just a small monster; nothing will happen. Though it’s only a scale, it still holds some of my magic. It’s more than enough to deal with a minor demon.”
In the image, Cang Lan nimbly dodged all the thorn attacks, standing steadily atop a wall. She even stroked her hair in front of the flower demon, smiling with a breeze-like nonchalance.
Though the thorns were as fine as cow hair and shot toward her at high speeds, they failed to harm her in the slightest, not even grazing the hem of her clothes.
Leaning against the headboard, Yu Xuanji stared at the projection, occasionally breaking into a sweat for Cang Lan.
Cang Lan, on the other hand, was not worried at all. As she watched, she actually began to feel bored. She bit her lip, wanting to kiss Yu Xuanji again.
Just as she turned her head, Yu Xuanji had already pursed her lips and even suggestively blocked them with the back of her hand.
Cang Lan said angrily, “You’re doing that on purpose!”
Yu Xuanji took her hand down nonchalantly and said, “I’m not.”
Cang Lan questioned, “Then why do you cover your mouth as soon as I look over?”
Yu Xuanji laughed and said, “Oh, the weather is getting cold; my lips are a bit chilly.”
Cang Lan was furious: “Liar!”
Yu Xuanji licked her lips and said, “I really am not.” After speaking, she quickly diverted Cang Lan’s attention, pointing at the projection: “Lan, look, it seems that flower demon has already been defeated by you.”
Cang Lan said resentfully, “I won’t look! Do you dislike me? Do you not want to kiss me?”
Yu Xuanji shook her head vigorously: “I don’t.”
Cang Lan said as if about to cry, “Fine, don’t say anything. I know my kissing skills aren’t good, so you despise me, right?”
Seeing Cang Lan preparing to get off the bed, Yu Xuanji quickly grabbed her waist and pulled her back: “No—”
Cang Lan turned her head with a look of resolve and asked, “Then why won’t you kiss me? Say it!”
Yu Xuanji took a breath and rushed to explain, “Every time I kiss you too deeply, my body can’t help but react. You know dragon saliva is an aphrodisiac; eating so much every day is really too much to bear—”
Cang Lan lowered her head, looking aggrieved. “But I can’t control that. I just love you and want to be close to you. What did I do wrong?”
Seeing Cang Lan’s eyes fill with moist mist, crystal tears gathered at the corners of her eyes. Soon after, the tears burst forth, pitter-pattering onto the back of Yu Xuanji’s hand.
Yu Xuanji panicked completely. She had never seen Cang Lan cry like this, and she never imagined that something as small as not being allowed to kiss would make her feel so mistreated.
Cang Lan sniffled and buried her face in Yu Xuanji’s chest, taking the chance to steal a few kisses while wailing and shedding tears: “My lady doesn’t love me anymore; you won’t even satisfy this small wish.”
Yu Xuanji sighed, cupping Cang Lan’s face and kissing her eyelids. “Fine, fine, I was wrong. In the future, you can kiss whenever you want, as deep as you want, okay? Come, let me wipe your tears. You’re a big girl now; you’re not allowed to cry.”
Cang Lan turned her head away, sulking. “Not enough.”
Yu Xuanji asked patiently, “Then what is enough? Do you want me to lick your tears away?”
Cang Lan’s face flushed for a moment. Her rising smile was poorly hidden as she pouted and pointed to the tears at the corners of her eyes. “Fine then. Here, here, and here—all must be licked clean. And it’s best if there are many more kisses.”
Yu Xuanji’s lips leaned in. Just as they touched Cang Lan’s eye, a loud bang echoed from outside the door.
Cang Lan looked up and saw that the avatar she had formed with the scale had actually been swallowed into the stomach of the flower demon.
Yu Xuanji looked at the image and then at Cang Lan. She wanted to comfort her, but Cang Lan, unable to save face, let go of Yu Xuanji and stood up, vanishing in the blink of an eye.
Yu Xuanji climbed out of bed, intending to go out the door, only to find that the side room had been sealed tight by a barrier. With her strength, she couldn’t open the door at all.
After several failed attempts, Yu Xuanji had no choice but to return to the bed, watching the image at the foot of the bed and worrying for Cang Lan.
She knew Cang Lan’s strength was terrifying, yet she couldn’t set her heart at ease, fearing the monster might harm her in the slightest—even a single hair was unacceptable.
Having swallowed Cang Lan’s avatar and absorbed the dragon god power of the scale, the flower demon’s size doubled. It turned its gaze, locking onto the incredibly sweet-smelling human inside the room, and lunged its thickest vine at the door with all its might.
A screech tore through the night sky, followed by a palm-blade strike that directly severed the sprawling, spreading rose at its roots.
“Ah—”
A piercing scream split the night. Countless thorny vines withered instantly, perishing along with the seductive, bewitching flowers.
The rose demon knelt on the ground, eyes bleeding, staring deathly at a corner of the wall.
Cang Lan sat on the wall, one leg dangling and swaying in mid-air, her clothes fluttering in the night wind. She rested her chin on her palm, her fingers holding the rose leaf from earlier. A light laugh drifted out along with the overwhelming scatter of red petals.
“What lowly demon dares to run wild in this King’s territory?”
The commotion at night was too loud. Shen Xiu sat up in bed and looked at Tushan Bai, who remained unmoved, asking softly, “Tushan, should we go out and see?”
Tushan Bai hugged Shen Xiu’s waist and laughed lightly. “No need. That evil dragon can handle it; her strength is terrifying.”
Shen Xiu couldn’t help but say, “But she lost her heart-protecting scale. What if the monster finds her weakness—”
Tushan Bai said, unable to stifle a laugh, “Weakness? It’s probably the one in the side room. However, if Yu Xuanji were truly captured by the flower demon, that demon would likely become the unluckiest creature in the world.”
Shen Xiu asked in confusion, “Why is that?”
But soon, Shen Xiu realized she had overlooked something and smiled. “I understand. I hope that monster has good luck.”
