- Chapter 45.1 - Imported Shrimp Meat, Fed Mouth-to-Mouth
When Yu Xuanji was shoved into the woodpile by Cang Lan, her entire mind went blank. It wasn’t until Cang Lan began kissing her chin, nuzzling against her face in search of her lips, with one hand encircling her waist and the other beginning to undo her belt, that she finally realized what the other woman intended to do.
Yu Xuanji watched Tushan Bai cover her eyes and bolt out the door. Unwilling to push Cang Lan away, she could only kiss her cheek and ask softly, “Lan, do you know who I am?”
Cang Lan’s eyes seemed clouded by an impenetrable mist. Without hesitation, she said, “You are my wife.”
Yu Xuanji curled her lips into a smile and continued to ask, “Then tell me, what is my name?”
Cang Lan buried her chin in the crook of Yu Xuanji’s neck and murmured, “Xuanji, Yu Xuanji.”
A smile finally blossomed across Yu Xuanji’s face. She looped her arms around Cang Lan’s neck, repeating softly, “Yes, I am Xuanji, Yu Xuanji. I am your wife, your wife is Yu Xuanji—do you remember?”
Cang Lan stopped her movements and slowly leaned into Yu Xuanji’s embrace, gently closing her eyes. “Mm, Xuanji is my wife. I like my wife, I like Xuanji…”
Her voice gradually faded as Cang Lan fell asleep, resting against Yu Xuanji’s chest. Leaning against the hay, Yu Xuanji stroked Cang Lan’s smooth, dark hair and lowered her head to kiss the crown of her head.
Outside, Tushan Bai paced back and forth, consumed by anxiety. She was deathly afraid that the two were doing “bad things” in her kitchen; what if they corrupted Xiuxiu?
The Little Skeleton squatted on the ground, watching Tushan Bai pace, and reached out a bony hand to grab the corner of her robe. Tushan Bai picked her up, and just as they were about to leave first, Yu Xuanji pushed open the door.
Yu Xuanji faced Tushan Bai’s slightly flushed face. Her hair was disheveled, her lips were red and swollen from being rubbed, and there were several bright red marks on her neck that looked like they had been sucked. It wasn’t just her face that betrayed what happened; even her clothes were a mess, looking as though she had been severely molested by a certain wicked dragon.
Tushan Bai’s gaze shifted and saw Cang Lan stumbling out of the kitchen, crashing directly into Yu Xuanji.
Yu Xuanji stumbled forward from the impact but turned around to hug Cang Lan’s waist, whispering continuous comforts: “It’s alright, it’s alright. The poison has been neutralized. Is your head still spinning?”
Tushan Bai walked over to the two, subtly scanning Yu Xuanji and the wicked dragon who was clinging to her like glue, and turned her head to roll her eyes. Sensing Tushan Bai’s gaze, Cang Lan glared back fiercely, scaring Tushan Bai into jumping to the side. “Whoa—!”
The Kitchen Quarrel
While lighting the fire to cook, Tushan Bai watched the dragon and the skeleton playing around in the kitchen. She couldn’t help but turn to Yu Xuanji and say, “Yu Xuanji, don’t you think this is a bit inappropriate? You’ve spoiled her to the point where she’s simply lawless.”
Cang Lan turned her head, and seeing Tushan Bai standing extremely close to Yu Xuanji, she said crossly, “Hey, stay away from my wife.”
Tushan Bai looked over and saw that Yu Xuanji had indeed taken small steps to stand further away, giving her a slight smile. Tushan Bai said coldly, “You will definitely regret this.”
When she went out to pour water, Tushan Bai found Cang Lan following right behind her. “What did you say to my wife just now?”
Tushan Bai wasn’t Yu Xuanji, so she wouldn’t indulge her. She gave a slight bow and said, “I said you are truly shameless. You were poisoned, fainted, and had hallucinations, yet you still dared to hold your dear wife and beg for kisses in front of so many people. Truly, your lust knows no bounds; I am utterly impressed.”
Cang Lan huffed and said, “What do you mean ‘so many people’? You’re a fox and that’s a bone. Are either of you human?”
“…”
Tushan Bai only regretted that she had poured out the water in her basin too early; she hadn’t managed to splash it on Cang Lan’s face, a fact she regretted deeply.
Returning to the kitchen, Yu Xuanji had already begun tossing the crawfish into the pot.
Tushan Bai stood by the side watching. A rich, fragrant aroma wafted over; she took a deep breath but was made to sneeze by the pungent red peppers and garlic. “Yu Xuanji, can this stuff really be eaten? The stream in front of my house is full of them. Every time it rains, they become a plague, and some even crawl into my home. Last time I was sleeping, one of them pinched my tail with its claw. It hurt for days.”
The crawfish in the pot quickly turned from black to a vibrant red. Tushan Bai marveled at the sight, listening to the crackling of the stir-fry as the aroma was suddenly released by the hot oil.
The scent drifted out of the chimney. Cang Lan, who was squatting by the well outside preparing to retrieve a watermelon, caught a whiff and didn’t even have time to grab the fruit before flashing to the stove in the blink of an eye.
Her two arms familiarly encircled Yu Xuanji’s waist. Cang Lan pressed her lips to her cheek for a kiss, looking at the spicy crawfish being tossed in the pan, and said with a laugh, “It smells so good! Wife, your cooking is so fragrant and amazing. Your culinary skills are the best in the world! I can eat everything you make!”
Tushan Bai stayed far away the moment she saw Cang Lan. Foxes and dragons were fundamentally incompatible. From this day forward, she declared she would keep her distance from Cang Lan to avoid being angered to death. If she, a noble fox of Qingqiu, ended up dying from rage because of a wicked dragon, it would be the laughingstock of the world.
Thinking of this, Tushan Bai placed her hands flat in front of her chest, gathering her energy to sink into her dantean. She silently recited the Tao Te Ching for a moment before slowly opening her eyes.
It would have been better if she hadn’t. Upon opening them, she saw Cang Lan staring at her with a strange look, waving her off: “Move aside, my wife is about to serve the crawfish.”
Tushan Bai couldn’t take it anymore. The Tao Te Ching she had just recited went right out the window. She pointed at the stove in a huff and said, “Let her serve it then! I’m just standing here not bothering anyone. Why should I leave? Besides, this is my kitchen. You’re the one who should leave!”
Yu Xuanji transferred all the crawfish into a wooden basin and said helplessly, “Lan, stop it. This is Tu Shan’s home. Do you want her to kick us both out?”
Cang Lan pouted at Tushan Bai and said, “It’s not like we’re homeless. Wife, let’s take the crawfish and go back to the Dragon Pond to eat.”
Tushan Bai looked at the delicious, fragrant spicy crawfish and gulped. She held up her hands to block the kitchen door and said stiffly, “I apologize. I spoke too harshly just now. Can we eat now?”
Yu Xuanji and Cang Lan exchanged a look and smiled. “Alright, let’s eat.”
The Transformation of Xiuxiu
Cang Lan placed the wooden basin on the table. Turning around, she saw a crowd of small demons gathered at Tushan Bai’s door, poking their heads in and sniffing the aroma with their eyes closed.
Putting the basin down, Cang Lan folded her arms across her chest and looked down at the group of sniffing demons.
The demons, while sniffing, suddenly caught the scent of dragon breath. They opened their eyes to see the “kindly” smiling Black Dragon King and fled in a panic, vanishing in the blink of an eye.
Cang Lan watched their retreating backs and grumbled, “I haven’t even said anything yet. Why are they running so fast? Am I really that scary?”
Returning to the main hall, Yu Xuanji saw Cang Lan walking back looking depressed. She placed a small bowl in front of her and asked softly, “Lan, why the long face? We’re about to eat.”
Cang Lan rubbed her face and hugged Yu Xuanji to complain: “Wife, why do those little demons run the moment they see me? I was just smiling at them so amiably, yet they bolted for their lives.”
Before Yu Xuanji could answer, Tushan Bai spoke up: “Why don’t you think about how many thousand-year-old demons you killed when you were conquering the Barren Lands?”
Cang Lan rubbed her cheeks and said, “But I wasn’t in my dragon form, and I’m so beautiful—”
“Pfft—” Tushan Bai spat out her water. She chuckled so hard her eyes filled with tears, which leaked from her tightly shut eyelids. She nearly went into convulsions from laughing. “Hahahaha—!”
Cang Lan’s expression changed instantly. She stared expressionlessly at the stinking fox and stood up abruptly, only to be pressed back down by Yu Xuanji, who shook her head.
Tushan Bai slapped the table, laughing hysterically and waving her arms about. Her body swayed backward until she fell off her stool with a “thud,” holding the Little Skeleton as she landed on her backside.
Yu Xuanji shook her head helplessly and asked, “Tushan Bai, are you alright?”
Tushan Bai’s stomach hurt from laughing. She sat on the floor, unable to get up, waving her hand. “No… I’m fine… Hahahaha, I haven’t heard anything so funny in a long time, hahahaha—”
Cang Lan glared at Yu Xuanji, her hands at her sides revealing sharp, long dragon claws, ready to strike.
Yu Xuanji sighed, gave Cang Lan a subtle wink, and said, “Lan, go easy on her.”
Tushan Bai was still laughing when her vision went dark. She looked up into Cang Lan’s face, which was as dark as the bottom of a pot, and her fox tail popped out in fright.
Immediately, her tail was easily snatched by Cang Lan. Tushan Bai’s claws left deep marks on the stool as she was dragged away, parting reluctantly from her beloved Little Skeleton.
The Little Skeleton was about to rush out to save Tushan Bai, but Yu Xuanji picked her up and sat her on a stool. She smiled and said, “Xiuxiu, they’re just bonding. Nothing will happen. Let’s eat first.”
Seeing the Little Skeleton pick up a crawfish with her finger bones and put it in her mouth, only for it to fall through her empty torso, Yu Xuanji picked up the shrimp and set it aside. She took the skeleton’s hand and walked toward Tushan Bai’s study.
The painting had not yet been left for the required seven days and nights. Seeing the dragon and fox fighting in their true forms in the sky outside the window, Yu Xuanji lightly pricked her fingertip and placed a drop of her blood on the brow of the figure in the painting.
Suddenly, a golden light erupted. Yu Xuanji covered the Little Skeleton’s eyes and tossed the painting into the air, where it transformed into a faint golden light that enveloped the skeleton. She closed her eyes, formed a hand seal at her lips, and slowly began to recite an incantation.
Outside, Cang Lan and Tushan Bai were still fighting. Both were thousand-year-old demon kings of the Barren Lands; when they fought for real, the world darkened in an instant. Purple lightning crackled in the rolling clouds, splitting the sandy ground into deep ravines.
Many beasts came to watch the commotion but were sent scurrying by the lightning strikes.
After a while, the sky cleared and the clouds dispersed.
Tushan Bai sat on the ground, transforming from a white fox back into a human. She brushed the dust off her clothes and said, “I’m done playing. Let’s go back and eat. I haven’t even tasted a single crawfish yet.”
Cang Lan transformed into a whirlwind, her voice sounding distant: “I shall be the first in the Barren Lands to eat crawfish!”
Tushan Bai muttered, “She’s insane.”
Imported Shrimp Meat
Returning to the hall, Cang Lan was prepared to dive into Yu Xuanji’s arms for a kiss before eating, but she saw a stranger at the table.
The girl’s face was as fair as jade, her smooth black hair tied behind her head. She sat with her eyes cast down, then slowly looked up at Cang Lan and the trailing Tushan Bai.
Tushan Bai ran in out of breath, one hand on her hip and the other on the doorframe. “You wicked dragon, how do you run so fast… like a loach—”
Her voice cut off abruptly. Tushan Bai stared at the delicate girl, frozen in place.
Yu Xuanji smiled and said, “Tushan Bai, Lan, this is Xiuxiu.”
Shen Xiu looked up, watching Tushan Bai quietly, and slowly stood up to walk toward her.
Tushan Bai remained dazed. The moment the other girl stood up, her legs gave way, and she collapsed onto the floor with a thud.
Shen Xiu hurried over to help her up. She opened her mouth, a soft, raspy sound coming from her throat: “Tushan Bai.”
Seeing Tushan Bai’s soul-stirringly blank expression, Yu Xuanji stood up and gave her a gentle pat on the back.
Cang Lan watched Tushan Bai hold the girl in silence, her eyes turning red as tears flowed uncontrollably. She leaned into Yu Xuanji’s ear and asked, “Wife, what’s going on?”
Yu Xuanji smiled: “What was lost has been found; they have finally reached a happy ending.”
Cang Lan scratched her head, still not quite understanding. Yu Xuanji pulled her to sit at the table and said, “I’ll explain it to you slowly later. For now, the priority is to eat the crawfish before they get cold.”
Seeing Cang Lan eager but unsure where to start, Yu Xuanji reached out, peeled a crawfish to reveal the white meat, dipped it in the sauce, and said with a smile, “Open wide.”
“Ah—” Cang Lan obediently opened her mouth wide. The moment Yu Xuanji placed the shrimp inside, she clamped her teeth down, catching Yu Xuanji’s two fingers.
