- Chapter 33.2 - Can't Take It Anymore – A Month-Long Rut
Just then, the faint sound of a thunderstorm approached. The three didn’t dare return to the Dragon Pool cave, so they found a random hole to hide from the rain.
As they sheltered, they thought the storm was caused by Cang Lan. Little did they know that strange phenomena were occurring outside; the entire sky had turned a deep purple, looking like the end of the world was nigh.
Ming Huang stood in the courtyard, watching the deep purple sky. The once bright sunlight gradually faded, eventually obscured by clusters of dark clouds.
The rain grew heavier. Ming Huang frowned and calculated with his fingers. “Not good. Something outside is trying to break the barrier of the Great Barrens.”
Lu Xuan stood behind Ming Huang and asked, “Master, what is happening?”
Ming Huang sighed. “What must come will come. It is time for me to reap the consequences of my own actions.”
Lu Xuan was puzzled. “Master, what exactly is happening? What are you talking about?”
Ming Huang stroked Lu Xuan’s face and curved his lips. “Nothing.”
The torrential rain lasted for seven days and nights. An Zhi and the others hid in a stone cave for the entire week. The Ginseng Baby got so hungry she dug a hole and buried herself in the dirt, leaving only two tender sprouts shivering above ground.
Finally, the rain stopped and the sky cleared. Sunlight once again pierced the earth, reaching into the dim cave.
An Zhi was holding Ting Lan as they slept. Seeing the sunlight, she woke the other two. “Look, the sun is finally out.”
The Dragon Pool was filled with light. Through the skylight, Yu Xuanji also sensed that the wind and rain outside had stopped. She hugged the little dragon, who had now transformed into human form, and kissed her cheek.
During these seven days, whether in human or dragon form, Cang Lan had refused to let go of her. Perhaps because of the rut, Cang Lan had been somewhat delirious lately.
At first, Yu Xuanji could coax her into being a bit more obedient, but after two days, she stopped listening entirely, acting willfully and recklessly.
Day and night alternated, the sun and moon revolved; in the blink of an eye, seven days had passed. Yu Xuanji counted the days every night. She had once heard Cang Lan say that a dragon’s rut lasted for an entire month—but only seven days had gone by.
Looking at the sleeping Cang Lan, Yu Xuanji leaned over to kiss her mouth. She pulled her charged phone from under the pillow and aimed the camera at Cang Lan.
The phone she had brought with her had died long ago; she had only managed to charge it a few days ago using the power bank Ting Lan brought. However, there was no signal in the Great Barrens; the phone was now just a thin brick, useful only for listening to a few old songs.
The moment she pressed the shutter, the phone made a crisp click sound, startling Yu Xuanji so much she almost dropped it. She had forgotten to silence the phone.
Almost simultaneously, Cang Lan snapped her eyes open. Her golden pupils were bright and clear as she stared at the panicked Yu Xuanji. “Wife, what are you doing?”
Yu Xuanji curled her lips. She quietly turned off the phone and said, “Nothing. I’m a bit hungry. I saw you were sleeping so soundly, so I thought I’d go down and find something to eat myself.”
Cang Lan alertly wrapped her tail around Yu Xuanji’s waist. “Hungry? I’ve fed Wife so many good things; how can Wife still be hungry?”
Yu Xuanji’s pale pink cheeks flushed. She coughed lightly and said, “I’ve eaten too much, my stomach is already bulging… but… after eating the same thing, sometimes I want to change the flavor.”
Cang Lan stared intently at Yu Xuanji’s lips. She leaned in and licked the small tear at the corner of her mouth with the tip of her tongue. “Does Wife not like my taste?”
It’s over.
Yu Xuanji’s brain suddenly felt rusty; she didn’t know how to answer. During these seven days, she had never dared to go against Cang Lan’s whims, otherwise, the dragon would find ways to “torture” her.
Several times, when she was so dehydrated she felt like she was dying, Cang Lan would bite the tip of her tongue and feed her dragon blood. It was non-stop, without pause, keeping her alive with that single breath of dragon blood.
Just thinking about it made Yu Xuanji shudder. She slowly curved her lips, and before Cang Lan could lose control, she quickly said, “I like it! I like it more than anything!”
Cang Lan was happy to hear this. She asked giggling, “Then what part of me do you like most?”
Yu Xuanji’s right eye twitched. Without thinking, she said, “Everything about you is good. Your tail is good; your claws are good… I really can’t pick which part is best.”
Hearing this, Cang Lan was overjoyed. She leaned in again to nuzzle Yu Xuanji. “Wife is so good. Wife is good everywhere; I like it all.”
Finally, having successfully coaxed her, Yu Xuanji tried to quietly put the phone back under the pillow, but Cang Lan noticed again. “What is Wife hiding? Bring it out and let me see too.”
Cang Lan spoke in a tone of consultation, but her gaze and actions were brooking no argument. Yu Xuanji had no choice; afraid of upsetting the sensitive little dragon-person again, she took the phone out.
Cang Lan took the phone, sniffed it, and said, “Isn’t this that broken black box?”
Yu Xuanji smiled. “Yes. It’s been charged, so now it glows and can be used.”
Cang Lan looked surprised, then delighted. “Charging? Wife, why didn’t you say so earlier? I can release electricity too!”
As she spoke, Cang Lan raised her index finger. Strands of purple-orange lightning spilled from her fingertip, ready to poke the black box.
Quick as a flash, Yu Xuanji grabbed Cang Lan’s finger and pressed it back, taking the phone away. She smiled and said, “A-Lan, you can’t.”
Cang Lan tilted her head. Two lines of tears suddenly fell. She looked ready to sob. “Why not? Didn’t Wife say it just needs electricity? Do you not like the electricity I release? You just said I was good everywhere—do you not love me anymore?”
Yu Xuanji: “…”
What kind of nonsensical, brainless talk is this!
Yu Xuanji decided not to try and reason with a sensitive, paranoid dragon in heat. Instead, she cupped Cang Lan’s face with both hands and swiftly pressed her lips against hers.
The two kissed deeply, their tongues entwined for a long time. Yu Xuanji swallowed an unknown amount of dragon saliva, and her entire body immediately began to heat up. Her legs went weak as she collapsed into Cang Lan’s arms.
“A-Lan…”
Seeing a triumphant smile appear on the corner of Cang Lan’s lips as the desire in her eyes deepened, Yu Xuanji’s heart sank.
Damn it, I fell for it again.
She clearly knew that even a tiny bit of dragon saliva could instantly break all her body’s defenses, yet she had still lustfully embraced Cang Lan and kissed her—and it was the most intimate kind of kiss.
Over these seven days, she had been captivated, day and night reversed to the point where she couldn’t distinguish between them. Yu Xuanji had been in a daze, her body not under her brain’s control, sitting upon the giant dragon and letting herself be taken.
She didn’t want to kiss Cang Lan, nor did she want to drink Cang Lan’s blood. But Cang Lan was wicked; she was always coaxing her to drink it mouthful by mouthful, always whispering sweet, cajoling words in her ear. Yu Xuanji was already muddled, and Cang Lan’s voice was so sweet and soft; she didn’t even need special methods to easily coax her into drinking it slowly.
Yu Xuanji’s red, moist lips parted and closed. She hooked her arms around Cang Lan’s neck, pulling her down, and whispered against her ear, “Bad… your baddie…”
Cang Lan’s golden pupils were much rounder than usual. She stared straight into Yu Xuanji’s eyes and asked, “What? Wife wants to give me eggs?”
Yu Xuanji: “…”
Cang Lan counted on her fingers, then stared at Yu Xuanji’s stomach. She tilted her head and said, “How many does Wife want to give me? One might be too few, but Wife’s body is too weak, so you need to drink more dragon blood to nourish yourself.”
Yu Xuanji knew that during a demon beast’s rut, their bodies were not controlled by their brains, seeking the most primitive way to mate. Although Cang Lan was different from them, she was still more or less affected; even her speech was confusing.
However, Yu Xuanji knew clearly: she couldn’t escape.
Seeing Cang Lan slowly press down on her, Yu Xuanji swallowed hard. Her once limp and numb body suddenly surged with adrenaline. She violently pushed Cang Lan away and scrambled toward the edge of the bed.
Just as she was about to reach the edge—the dawn of victory in sight—Cang Lan opened her slender, well-defined fingers and easily caught her fair, delicate ankle, pulling her back to her side without any effort.
Her back slammed against Cang Lan’s chest. Yu Xuanji bit her lower lip and pleaded, “A-Lan, I really can’t take it anymore. It’s been too many times, please spare me. How about… let me rest first? Tomorrow is fine too, I won’t run away, okay?”
A sweet smile blossomed on Cang Lan’s lips. Kneeling behind Yu Xuanji, she put her arms around her waist and pulled her close, shaking her head gently but firmly. “No.”
Yu Xuanji choked out, “Is it… is it that urgent? Can’t we just wait one day? Half a day… half a day is surely fine?”
Cang Lan shook her head. “No.”
Despair slowly filled Yu Xuanji’s eyes. She made one last plea.
“A-Lan…”
Cang Lan cupped her own cheeks, smiling innocently with sparkling eyes. “Wife, you can do it. Since you chose me, chose to become a dragon’s partner, you should fulfill your duties as a partner. How can you just leave me be? Could it be that you don’t actually love me that much?”
Yu Xuanji’s lips trembled; she kept swallowing, her voice hoarse and her pupils slightly unfocused. The fragrance of the dragon saliva permeated her organs, dominating all her senses—even her brain.
As her brain processed Cang Lan’s last sentence, Yu Xuanji’s mouth automatically answered, “I love you, I do. But… but…”
Cang Lan blinked and kissed Yu Xuanji’s ear, taking the earlobe into her mouth. She said affectionately, “Every monster in the Great Barrens knows I am a fierce, wicked dragon. They all stay far away from me. Only Wife pities me and loves me, is willing to be close to me, and is willing to be my partner.”
Yu Xuanji blinked, stopping her attempt to crawl away.
Cang Lan took the chance to wrap her tail around her, her triumphant smile growing more wicked. Her voice was sweet and soft. “But did Wife forget? I am a wicked dragon.”
Cang Lan’s voice felt ethereal, shifting from far to near. She said, “Wife, don’t be afraid. I will keep feeding you dragon blood. We still have plenty of time, no need to rush, let’s take it slow…”
Yu Xuanji slowly closed her eyes and began to pray to the heavens, hoping that when the rut ended, she would still be a complete human being.
