- Chapter 31.2 - The Fertility Pill—"A-Lan, do you want a baby?"
Ming Huang pinched her chin; she looked much more pleasing to the eye now. She continued to ask: “You’ve stayed in the Wilderness with me for so many years, but I’ve never told you the reason. Do you want to know?”
Lu Xuan shook her head: “Master must have your reasons for doing so. This disciple does not need to ask.”
Ming Huang smiled helplessly, reaching out to poke her forehead twice: “You’re just a block of wood.”
However, Ming Huang discovered that while Lu Xuan’s words were respectful—frequently calling her “Master” and appearing honest and obedient—in reality, she did nothing but rebellious and sacrilegious deeds.
The air grew cool. Ming Huang prepared to stand up and return to the bedroom to rest, but her legs were held firmly by Lu Xuan, who was crouching on the ground.
Ming Huang said in shock: “What are you doing?”
Lu Xuan lifted her head, her eyes full of longing: “This disciple hadn’t fully digested everything just now before Master ran away.”
Ming Huang pressed her knee against Lu Xuan’s chin, frowning: “No, let me catch my breath.”
Lu Xuan’s eyes drooped in disappointment, her pitch-black, long lashes casting a shadow on her face. It looked as if tears were about to fall.
Seeing this, Ming Huang pinched the space between her brows hard and hooked her calf around the other’s waist to pull her close: “Fine, fine, fine. I’m going all out today. I promise to feed you until you’re… ah!”
Inside the Dragon Pool, Cang Lan sat at the desk writing, with Yu Xuanji sitting beside her. Yu Xuanji held the latest book written by TuShan bai, Spoiled Wife: Ten Eggs in One Birth—the protagonist was still a continuation of the one from The Overbearing Black Dragon’s Fierce Love.
Initially, Yu Xuanji found the title quite bizarre, having the air of a smutty “toilet read,” but after flipping through a few pages, she actually found it quite interesting.
Cang Lan observed Yu Xuanji out of the corner of her eye for a while. On a sudden whim, she took out a piece of white paper and quietly drew a “person.”
In a few strokes, she drew Yu Xuanji “herself.” Cang Lan touched her own face, then touched the small dragon horns that had grown out. Following Yu Xuanji’s appearance, she “copy-pasted” a stick figure and drew two horns on its head to differentiate it.
Cang Lan covered her mouth and snickered, unaware that Yu Xuanji had already taken in all her expressions. She had known all along that Cang Lan was secretly drawing her portrait, so she purposely sat up straight, striking a classic Mona Lisa pose.
Seeing that Cang Lan seemed to have finally finished—putting down the brush and laughing happily while covering her mouth—Yu Xuanji pretended to be completely unaware and asked: “A-lan, what are you laughing at?”
Cang Lan said with a smile, like someone presenting an achievement for a reward: “Wife, I just secretly drew a portrait of you while you weren’t looking.”
The corners of Yu Xuanji’s lips curved. She put down the book and stood up to lean beside Cang Lan. Even before seeing the drawing, she started to show support: “A-lan is so great. The drawing is so… what is this?”
The moment she saw the drawing, Yu Xuanji’s “soft and high-pitched” voice almost cracked. She coughed lightly, looking at the two “neither-this-nor-that’s” on the paper, frantically searching her mind for words of praise.
Cang Lan pointed to the stick figure on the left with a round head and a big belly, saying with a smile: “This is Wife.” She then pointed to the one beside it, which had two horns and a tail: “This is me.”
Yu Xuanji bit her lower lip, seemingly suppressing some inappropriate emotions. She forced the corners of her mouth to curve and pointed to a stick being held between the two, asking: “Then… what is this stick?”
Cang Lan said shyly: “That’s my hand. I accidentally drew it too short, so I added a section. What does Wife think?”
Yu Xuanji said: “The artistic conception is actually quite good. There are trees, a house, and also the sun and the moon.” She really couldn’t find anything else to praise. She pointed at a long, bug-like thing on the tree and said: “Wow, this bug is drawn very well.”
Cang Lan leaned in to look, puzzled: “What bug?”
Yu Xuanji pointed with her finger: “This one.”
Cang Lan realized and said: “Oh, that’s a squirrel I drew. Oops, I forgot to draw the head and body.”
Yu Xuanji watched with her own eyes as Cang Lan added the squirrel’s head and body with a few strokes. She gave a thumbs up and praised her intensely: “Not bad. A few strokes captured the soul of the object. Very excellent.”
When An Zhi and Ting Lan heard Yu Xuanji being so unsparing with her praise, they thought this dragon was some kind of natural-born artist, so they crept over to take a look.
Seeing this, Yu Xuanji quickly rolled up the drawing and glared coldly at the two of them.
Ting Lan knew that the two of them acting as “light bulbs” (third wheels) would ruin the couple’s good atmosphere, so she grabbed An Zhi with one hand, tucked the Ginseng Baby under her arm with the other, and fled the study at lightning speed.
After the two left, Yu Xuanji spread the drawing out again. She pointed to the empty space between the two of them and asked with a smile: “A-lan, what do you think should be drawn here?”
Cang Lan thought for a while: “Hmm… what to draw… what to draw…” She racked her brain but couldn’t think of anything, so she turned to Yu Xuanji for help, acting spoiled: “Wife, what do you think would be good to draw?”
Yu Xuanji’s lips curved as she said: “Look, this is your left hand, and this is my right hand. We can hold a small child in the middle.”
Having said that, Yu Xuanji picked up the writing brush, placed the brush handle in Cang Lan’s hand, and guided her hand to slowly draw in the middle.
Cang Lan was teased by Yu Xuanji’s closeness until her heart was fluttering. With a red face, she didn’t know where to put her eyes or hands. As they rubbed together, she leaned her head back, pressing firmly against Yu Xuanji, and looked up at Yu Xuanji’s serious and focused face.
As she watched, Cang Lan couldn’t help but swallow several times. She suddenly jerked her head up toward Yu Xuanji and successfully kissed her lips.
Yu Xuanji was bumped so hard she staggered and almost fell to the ground, but she was tightly wrapped around the waist by Cang Lan’s tail and pulled back.
Cang Lan held her, rubbing her head against Yu Xuanji’s chest and abdomen, saying full of apology: “Wife, it’s all my fault. I used too much force and almost made Wife fall.”
Yu Xuanji smiled and said: “It’s fine. Quick, look at what I drew.”
Cang Lan opened the scroll with an expectant look. Seeing the small, short, round fatty between the two of them, she said in a daze: “Wife, this… this is…”
Yu Xuanji touched the dried ink and said: “This is our future baby. What do you think?”
Cang Lan’s face instantly flushed crimson. She stammered: “Ba… baby? Our… baby?”
The smile on Yu Xuanji’s face gradually froze. She asked tentatively: “A-lan, do you want a baby?”
Cang Lan shook her head and said: “I… I… can we really have a baby?”
Yu Xuanji nodded: “Mhm. As long as you want to, we can.”
Cang Lan shook her head violently, the expression on her face caught between crying and laughing. Her face was red from her ears to her neck, and it quickly spread down to her chest and below.
At first, Yu Xuanji thought Cang Lan was unwilling or disliked the idea, but then she realized the dragon was simply embarrassed to this extent. She couldn’t help but laugh: “A-lan, what’s wrong? Why is your body so hot? Like you’re fully ripened.”
The entire dragon felt out of sorts. She bumped her head again and again against Yu Xuanji’s chest and abdomen, as if she wanted to ram herself to death there, sobbing: “Wife, don’t say it. I… I… I… Waaah, I’m going to ram my head to death against your belly!”
Yu Xuanji coaxed her, smiling as she kissed her hair: “Then do you want one or not?”
As soon as Cang Lan heard words related to having children, she became so coy she even stammered her words, incredibly awkward and wishing she could find a crack in the ground to crawl into.
Yu Xuanji cupped Cang Lan’s face and pressed: “Do you not like children?”
Cang Lan nodded: “No… I don’t like them, but… but…”
Cang Lan carefully placed her hand on Yu Xuanji’s lower abdomen, both nervous and excited: “If it’s born by Wife, then I’ll like it.”
At night, Cang Lan pestered Yu Xuanji again, asking her to tell stories from Dream of the Red Chamber.
Yu Xuanji’s voice was soft, light, and pleasant to hear. Cang Lan listened until she couldn’t help but yawn repeatedly, eventually drifting into sleep while holding her.
When Cang Lan slept, her tail had to be out; it naturally and skillfully wrapped around Yu Xuanji’s thigh and waist.
Yu Xuanji put down the book in her hand, extinguished the mermaid-tallow candle by the bed, kissed Cang Lan on the forehead, and leaned into her arms to close her eyes.
Past midnight, the cry of an owl came from outside the cave, waking the nearly-asleep Yu Xuanji. Her sleep was very light; in all these years, it was only during these days with Cang Lan that she could have a peaceful night’s rest.
Yu Xuanji looked up at the skylight above; that crescent moon seemed to have become a bit fuller again. She calculated the time; her period should be coming soon.
Stroking her lower abdomen, Yu Xuanji sighed soundlessly. The more it was this time, the heavier the desire in her body became—she wished she could sit on Cang Lan every day.
But this little dragon had never experienced the affairs of the heart before; she knew nothing. Sometimes she would charge in recklessly, yet sometimes her courage was pitifully small, and she dared not do anything, leaving Yu Xuanji to move slowly on her own.
By the moonlight, Yu Xuanji carefully traced every inch of Cang Lan’s cheek with her gaze, thinking: If we really had a child, would their personality be the same as Cang Lan’s?
However, Yu Xuanji thought about it and felt that maybe she should forget it. Having one was already headache enough; if there were a few more, wouldn’t the house turn into a zoo?
While Cang Lan was asleep, Yu Xuanji took out a wooden box hidden behind the head of the bed. After opening it, a small and exquisite white jade bottle lay quietly inside.
Yu Xuanji held the bottle against her heart, but her heart was thumping incessantly, almost jumping out of her throat.
The body of the bottle was delicate and smooth, carved from the finest mutton-fat jade. However, the three words carved upon it caused a surge of waves in Yu Xuanji’s heart.
Fertility Pill.
As long as she swallowed it…
Yu Xuanji bit her lower lip, her chest rising and falling. She very carefully caressed Cang Lan’s cheek, from the space between her brows to her lips.
After a long time, she put the bottle back.
