- The Amnesiac, Sickly Beauty Is Pregnant With My Dragon Cub
- Chapter 23 - Tabloid News! Shocking! The Great Dragon King and a Female Demon Kissing Passionately at the Village Entrance.
The group of little rabbit demons crowded around Yu Xuanji as they entered the village stronghold. Cang Lan’s face was as black as the bottom of a pot; she followed behind in total silence, wishing she could swallow these hopping, long-eared monsters all in one breath.
Cang Lan stared intensely at Yu Xuanji’s back, terrified that these long-eared freaks might take advantage of her inattention to pull some hidden scheme against Yu Xuanji.
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. Had she known it would be like this, she never would have agreed to let Yu Xuanji come out.
Yu Xuanji turned her head, happening to meet Cang Lan’s gloomy expression. She waved toward the jealous little dragon and said with a smile, “A-Lan, come here.”
The rabbits surrounding Yu Xuanji scattered one after another, proactively clearing a path for Cang Lan. They blinked their bright red eyes, twitched their ears, and began to chatter and whisper amongst themselves.
Being watched by so many rabbits, Cang Lan puffed out her chest with pride. She walked toward Yu Xuanji with steady, deliberate steps and took hold of her hand.
Watching Cang Lan walk over with her arms and legs moving in unison from nervousness, Yu Xuanji pressed down the corners of her rising smile and gripped her hand tightly.
The chattering of the little rabbits grew denser in her ears. Cang Lan glanced at the long-eared monsters out of the corner of her eye, then wrapped one arm around Yu Xuanji’s shoulder, caressed her chin, and planted a kiss on the corner of her mouth.
The little rabbit demons: “Gibberish, gibberish, babble, babble, babble…”
Yu Xuanji was stunned for a moment and turned to look at Cang Lan, but the little dragon had already turned her face away. From the profile she caught a glimpse of, Yu Xuanji saw that the dragon’s lips were curled upward.
The person was kissed in the morning; the news was spread by noon.
The feathers on the Golden Eagle’s wings had grown back. It was circling in the sky when it passed a flock of crows cawing and spreading rumors. Upon listening for a moment, it heard the headline: “The Great Dragon King and a Female Demon Kissing Passionately at the Village Entrance.” It was so furious that it howled several times.
The more it thought, the angrier it got. The Golden Eagle flew straight toward the Dragon Pond, intending to see if the poor human woman abandoned by Cang Lan was still inside the cave.
The Golden Eagle had been beaten by Cang Lan and was now afraid; it didn’t dare enter recklessly this time. It hovered in mid-air for a while before gathering its courage to squeeze through a small hole at the top.
The cave was incredibly empty; there was no sign of the black dragon or the human. The Golden Eagle followed the path it had taken days ago but couldn’t find so much as a single hair.
The Golden Eagle’s heart skipped a beat. It searched back and forth inside the cave for a long time, but the woman was nowhere to be found. Where had that human gone? Could she have been eaten by that heinous villain, the black dragon?
The woman was its savior, and a demon must show gratitude. The Golden Eagle secretly made up its mind, vowing to make the black dragon pay in blood!
A black dragon galloped across the horizon, its vigorous form riding through the mists and clouds. Atop its body sat a woman in white.
This woman in white was Yu Xuanji, riding a dragon for the first time. She held onto the dragon horns on either side with both hands, sitting astride the dragon’s neck with her legs apart, her entire body surrounded by a golden glow.
Yu Xuanji’s hair fluttered wildly in the wind. She sat steadily on the black dragon, freeing one hand to stroke the dragon’s mane. It wasn’t very soft—in fact, it was a bit prickly. She curled her lips into a smile and gently buried her face into it.
Wherever the black dragon went, thunder roared and lightning flashed. The ink-colored clouds shifted eerily, and in an instant, raindrops as large as beans fell rapidly from the cloud layer.
At the same time, in the desert, An Zhi—who was already lost and leaning on a walking stick—complained: “How is this ghost desert so big? How many years and months will it take to get out of here?”
Ting Lan sighed: “Who knows? The instruments we brought malfunctioned as soon as we entered. Luckily, we can’t die. Let’s just walk slowly; one day we’ll find the Master.”
An Zhi pulled her leg out of the sand and said indignantly: “Why did Master have to come to the Wilderness? That dragon has been dead for thousands of years; how could it still be alive?”
Ting Lan hissed: “Keep those words to yourself. Never let the Master hear you.”
Just as she spoke, a bean-sized raindrop fell on An Zhi’s head. She looked up to see the previously clear sky covered in dark clouds in the blink of an eye. An Zhi’s pupils shrank, her lips trembling: “Ting Lan, it looks like it’s going to rain.”
Faster than words could describe, dense raindrops smashed down over their heads. The two fled in a panic, screaming: “Didn’t they say it never rains in the Wilderness! It’s over! I’m dead for sure!”
A piece of An Zhi’s face collapsed, and her messy hair became a soaked clump. Her two legs sank into the wet sand, and she nearly snapped them at the knees trying to pull them out: “My legs!”
Ting Lan grabbed An Zhi’s arm and ran: “Forget the legs! Who told you to use a paper-mache body? Why couldn’t you be like me and use stainless steel!”
An Zhi: “Who knew the Wilderness would have a rainstorm!”
As if sensing something, Yu Xuanji lowered her eyes to look at the vast desert beneath the clouds. She slowly withdrew her gaze, her fingers stroking Cang Lan’s dragon horns, and asked, “A-Lan, where are you taking me?”
Cang Lan replied, “Taking you to see the Old Phoenix.”
Yu Xuanji asked, “The Old Phoenix? Is that the divine beast phoenix you told me about the other day?”
Cang Lan: “Mhm. I asked her to refine some medicinal pills. They are finished today. I’ll have her check your pulse to see if she can cure your illness once and for all.”
Beneath the altitude of ten thousand meters, inside a courtyard in an oasis, Ming Huang looked up at the clearing sky. She smiled at Lu Xuan, who was watering flowers, and said, “A-Xuan, go prepare some tea. We have guests arriving soon.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Cang Lan appeared in the courtyard holding Yu Xuanji, coming face to face with Ming Huang in the pavilion. “Old Phoenix, are the pills ready?”
Ming Huang curled her lips and studied the woman in Cang Lan’s arms, saying, “They’ve been ready. I’ll have A-Xuan take you to get them in a moment.”
Yu Xuanji stepped down from Cang Lan’s embrace, her gaze slowly falling on Ming Huang. When their eyes met, Yu Xuanji froze. She opened her lips, but found she could not make a sound.
Ming Huang smiled: “This must be Miss Xuanji. I heard A-Lan mention your health was poor. Are you feeling better now?”
Yu Xuanji nodded. Cang Lan, thinking she was shy, answered for her: “Much better. The pills you refined for me are quite effective. After my wife ate them, she even had the strength to cook for me.”
Cang Lan hugged Yu Xuanji from behind, resting her chin in the crook of her neck. She said with a smug expression, “My wife’s cooking is delicious, though she only makes it for me.”
Ming Huang poured a cup of tea and placed it before Yu Xuanji. Seeing the two of them so inseparable and affectionate, she let out a soft laugh. “A-Lan, go find A-Xuan for me. While you’re at it, clear the residue from the alchemy furnace. I’ll take care of Miss Xuanji.”
Cang Lan tightened her grip around Yu Xuanji’s waist, her eyes full of vigilance. “Old Phoenix, what are you trying to do? I’m warning you; don’t you dare bully my wife while I’m gone.”
Ming Huang took a sip of clear tea. “Do you want me to refine pills for you next time?”
Cang Lan’s arrogant aura immediately withered. She rubbed her cheek against Yu Xuanji’s side and ear, saying fiercely, “Hmph! If a single strand of my wife’s hair is missing when I get back, I’ll turn this place upside down!”
Ming Huang laughed: “Yes, yes, go on. I’ll return your wife to you exactly as she is.”
After Cang Lan left, Ming Huang’s fingertip tapped the tabletop twice.
Yu Xuanji’s gaze slowly rose. Ming Huang gave a gentle smile and said, “Miss Xuanji, it has been a long time.”
There was a white plum tree in the courtyard; its petals drifted with the wind and were swept into the soil. When Cang Lan came out with the pills, she happened to see Yu Xuanji in her white clothes standing under the plum blossoms.
Cang Lan waved the pills in her hand and smiled, “Wife, let’s go home.”
Before leaving, Cang Lan took a bamboo hat that she had “borrowed” from Ming Huang’s house and placed it on Yu Xuanji’s head. She argued righteously, “The demons around here are all heinous and hideous to look at. Wife, wear this so they can’t see you.”
Yu Xuanji obediently let Cang Lan cover her entire face. Her hand was also held tightly by Cang Lan, who said, “Wife, hold my hand tight. Don’t let go.”
Yu Xuanji did exactly as she was told.
Just as they stepped out of Ming Huang’s door, they were blocked by the Golden Eagle.
The Golden Eagle had excellent eyesight. It had been circling the sky and saw Cang Lan’s figure from afar, so it landed impatiently to block their path.
The Golden Eagle, now in human form, saw the “female demon” in white behind Cang Lan. It couldn’t help but burst into tears, lamenting the tragic fate of its human savior.
Gripping its trident, the Golden Eagle pointed at Cang Lan in a fit of rage: “Black Dragon! You actually colluded with this female demon and abandoned your poor human wife in that cave! You are nothing but a despicable scoundrel who abandons his own! Today, I will fight you to the death!”
