The Amnesiac Drama Queen Is Crashing the Live Stream - Chapter 28.1
The time was nearing four in the morning. Xia Xingtang, like a contented little stray dog, rolled over a few times, tugged the blanket into a comfortable position, and gradually drifted into drowsiness.
As for the fever-reducing patch on Pei Luoqing’s forehead or any other responsibilities of caring for a sick person, she had completely forgotten about them the moment she lay down.
Perhaps it was because Xia Xingtang had rummaged through the house for every fever-reducing medicine she could find and administered several types at once. Not only was she lucky enough to avoid any adverse reactions, but her body temperature also dropped rapidly.
By the time Pei Luoqing removed the fever patch, Xia Xingtang’s eyelids were already heavy, though she occasionally forced them open, her gaze unfocused.
Pei Luoqing shook her head helplessly, her eyes tracing the contours of Xia Xingtang’s features before she softly said, “If you’re tired, just sleep.”
“I can’t,” Xia Xingtang murmured, nuzzling her pillow as she mustered a bit of energy. “I said I’d watch over you until you fell asleep. Once you’re asleep, I’ll go back to my own room.”
The two had been married for over three years but had never shared a bed in their new home. It hadn’t mattered before, but now, seeing Xia Xingtang lying in her bed, Pei Luoqing felt an indescribable emotion stirring within her.
Xia Xingtang, still half-asleep, mumbled, “Just sleep, don’t worry about me. I’ll go back in a little while.”
Amused by Xia Xingtang’s insistence even in her drowsy state, Pei Luoqing reached out and ruffled her hair. “Then take your time waiting.”
“Mmm”
Xia Xingtang seemed to be teetering between dreams and reality, offering no resistance to Pei Luoqing’s gesture. She only let out a soft, muffled sound of protest.
By the time Xia Xingtang woke again, it was already noon the next day.
The high-quality triple-layer blackout curtains blocked the sunlight outside completely. Unless the switch was pressed, not a single ray of light could penetrate the room.
Xia Xingtang groggily opened her eyes, the warm, soft sensation beneath her hand taking a moment to register. Then, the unfamiliar furnishings and ceiling jolted her fully awake.
She slowly lowered her gaze and realized her arm was draped boldly across Pei Luoqing’s upper body, while her left leg was wrapped possessively around Pei Luoqing’s waist.
Even the surface beneath her head wasn’t a pillow, it was radiating a steady warmth. She was clinging to Pei Luoqing like a koala.
Finally grasping her predicament, she wished she could close her eyes and wake up again, hoping to escape the awkwardness.
And so, she did just that.
But the moment she shut her eyes, a low chuckle sounded above her.
Laced with the lazy tone of someone just waking up, Pei Luoqing teased, “Are you trying to play the ostrich?”
Xia Xingtang squeezed her eyes and lips shut tightly, finally accepting that there was no escaping this embarrassment.
But hadn’t she been taking care of Pei Luoqing last night?
Hadn’t she planned to leave once Pei Luoqing’s fever broke and she fell asleep?
How had she ended up sleeping on top of Pei Luoqing like this?
Pei Luoqing was, after all, a patient. Xia Xingtang mentally scolded herself for three full seconds.
Then, stiffly, she tried to extricate herself from Pei Luoqing.
But as soon as she shifted and lifted her head slightly, her eyes met Pei Luoqing’s amused gaze. That beautiful face was now magnified right before her eyes.
Xia Xingtang stared blankly at Pei Luoqing, whose complexion had fully recovered without a trace of last night’s illness. As she continued to stare, she noticed that Pei Luoqing’s face seemed flawless, with even her pores incredibly fine.
She didn’t look at all like a workaholic five years her senior, constantly running around at the company without rest.
Pei Luoqing was now fully awake, and Xia Xingtang grew increasingly uneasy. Lowering her head, she almost wanted to cry at the sight of her own limbs still wrapped around Pei Luoqing.
Help! How was she supposed to erase the evidence of her actions and slip out of bed unnoticed like this?
When she slept alone, she usually woke up in almost the same position she fell asleep in.
And last time at the hospital, hadn’t she and Pei Luoqing kept to their own sides, waking up without any boundary-crossing?
So why, this time, had they ended up tangled together?
She glanced at her position on the bed and could already deduce that there was a large empty space behind her.
To be more precise, she had unilaterally rolled into Pei Luoqing’s embrace.
One escape plan after another flashed through her mind, only to be dismissed. She squirmed slightly in Pei Luoqing’s arms, but that only resulted in a tighter hold.
The arm beneath her left shoulder shifted, wrapping around her waist and preventing her from moving back even an inch.
Whenever she managed to free one hand, Pei Luoqing’s other hand would unconsciously press it back down.
The same went for her legs, every time she moved, Pei Luoqing seemed to anticipate it, making small, seemingly unconscious adjustments.
After several attempts, even someone as slow as Xia Xingtang could figure out the other’s intentions.
She had come with good intentions to take care of Pei Luoqing, and this was the thanks she got?
Did teasing her bring Pei Luoqing that much satisfaction?
Xia Xingtang’s morning irritability surged, ready to explode at the slightest provocation.
Without hesitation, she shoved Pei Luoqing away, barely freeing her hands, and glared at her furiously.
Meeting Xia Xingtang’s gaze, Pei Luoqing subtly withdrew her arm from Xia Xingtang’s waist and looked at her innocently. “What’s wrong?”
Xia Xingtang almost laughed in disbelief.
How dare she ask what was wrong?
Did she think just anyone could wrap their arms around the waist of the Second Miss of the Xia family?
It was so slender and smooth, even she hadn’t touched it that many times herself!
She retorted, “Why am I sleeping here?”
“You stayed here on your own last night. Have you forgotten?”
Xia Xingtang pursed her lips and demanded, “I said I was only here to take care of you. Why didn’t you wake me up after I fell asleep?”
“I did try to wake you,” Pei Luoqing’s voice was slightly hoarse, tinged with a hint of sleepiness and dejection. “But you didn’t wake up.
“And I tried several times. But you told me not to bother you and to get lost.”
Her tone was practically accusing Xia Xingtang of bullying a sick person.
Xia Xingtang choked on her words, thinking it over carefully. It did sound like something she might do.
After all, she had always prioritized herself since childhood and had never really taken care of anyone. Falling asleep halfway through caring for someone… was somewhat understandable, right?
Xia Xingtang cleared her throat lightly. “Actually, I…”
At that moment, Pei Luoqing’s tone grew more serious, carrying a hint of accusation. “You were sleepwalking, too.”
“Me? Sleepwalking?” This time, Xia Xingtang refused to believe it. “Don’t you dare pin that on me!”
No matter how outrageous she had been, she had never done something as terrifying as sleepwalking, okay?
Who would have thought Pei Luoqing would nod seriously and slightly lift the leg Xia Xingtang was lying on, “You came over and hugged me last night, and I couldn’t push you away no matter what.”
With such blatant evidence right in front of her, Xia Xingtang found it hard to argue.
She had no choice but to brace herself and explain, “Well, you could’ve just pushed me away.”
“Do you think I didn’t try?” Pei Luoqing’s voice carried a hint of disappointment. “I couldn’t push you away in the water, and last night, with a fever and feeling so weak, even though I struggled with all my might, it was useless.”
She even knew how to bring up examples. At first listen, it sounded quite pitiful.
But Xia Xingtang remembered that Pei Luoqing was someone who could carry her in a princess hold without batting an eye. And just moments ago, when she tried to pull away, wasn’t it Pei Luoqing who held her down firmly?
Even though Xia Xingtang had lost countless verbal battles, she still defended herself, “Don’t you dare frame me like that.”
“Ah…” Pei Luoqing suddenly gasped.
Xia Xingtang quickly turned and reached out to check Pei Luoqing’s forehead temperature, “Does your head hurt again? Is the fever not gone yet?”
Pei Luoqing shook her head, “It’s just my shoulder that hurts a bit. It feels like something bit me last night. Do you want to check it for me?”
Xia Xingtang: “…”
Xia Xingtang had no intention of moving her head to inspect some elusive injury.
Even if there was no mark, with Pei Luoqing’s audacity, she might just fabricate some internal injury.
Admitting defeat early would at least preserve a bit of her dignity.
Who knew if Pei Luoqing would say something even more shocking next?
And so, on this morning, Xia Xingtang suffered another crushing defeat.
