The Amnesiac Drama Queen Is Crashing the Live Stream - Chapter 27.2
Even though Pei Luoqing insisted she was fine, sitting alone in the office chair made her look utterly pitiful. Feeling partly responsible, Xia Xingtang’s conscience wouldn’t let her leave, and she lingered hesitantly.
As if guided by some inexplicable force, Xia Xingtang could read the surprise in Pei Luoqing’s eyes.
It seemed to say, “So you do know how to take care of someone.”
Xia Xingtang felt exasperated by her gaze. Although she spent most of her days shopping and indulging in leisure, appearing utterly unreliable, she still had a conscience, didn’t she?
Besides, after having that unsettling and somewhat bizarre dream, she was reluctant to go back to sleep.
She supported Pei Luoqing and slowly walked her back to the bedroom.
Xia Xingtang was very close to Pei Luoqing, whose nose was enveloped in the faint, sweet scent of shower gel, making her breathing feel a little easier.
After carefully settling Pei Luoqing onto the bed, Xia Xingtang hurried out to find medicine.
Pei Luoqing’s heart seemed to be touched by something, a faint smile appearing at the corner of her lips.
While waiting for the water to boil, Xia Xingtang couldn’t resist pulling out her phone to search on Baidu for remedies for fever. At the same time, she instinctively dismissed the “drink hot water” cure-all suggestion.
When she had been in a car accident before, she had searched her symptoms on Baidu and received a diagnosis of a terminal illness, leaving her waiting for death. But the long wait for the water to boil was unbearable, and she didn’t know what else to do.
Fortunately, this time Baidu didn’t give her absurd advice, suggesting that cooling the patient could help reduce the fever.
Thankfully, the medicine cabinet at home was well-stocked. After retrieving the medicine, she grabbed a whole pack of fever-reducing patches and headed upstairs.
Following the instructions, she measured out the appropriate dosage of medicine. Once the fever-reducing mixture had cooled enough to drink, she carefully brought it to Pei Luoqing.
“Drink it quickly before it gets cold.”
Xia Xingtang turned around and noticed that Pei Luoqing had been staring at her the entire time. She had no idea how long the woman had been watching.
She instinctively frowned. Was there something on her face?
But she quickly dismissed the thought. After all, she had washed her face before leaving the bedroom. There was no way Pei Luoqing could have known about her nightmare, that would be too embarrassing.
Xia Xingtang urged impatiently, “Why are you staring at me? Will staring at me cure your fever? Hurry up and drink!”
Pei Luoqing leaned listlessly against the headboard, not lifting a hand.
Xia Xingtang gave her a suspicious glance before finally understanding Pei Luoqing’s meaning.
Fine, the patient’s comfort comes first. She had already run up and down the stairs twice, what was one more thing?
Xia Xingtang brought the cup of medicinal granules to Pei Luoqing’s lips. “Drink.”
“It’s a bit hot.” Pei Luoqing turned her head away as soon as she felt the steam.
“Hot?” Xia Xingtang instinctively blew on it gently, then took a small sip to test the temperature. “Try it now?”
This time, Pei Luoqing didn’t refuse. “Mm, it’s fine now.”
Pei Luoqing lowered her lashes, her lips lightly touching the rim of the cup.
It took Xia Xingtang a moment to realize, the spot where Pei Luoqing had sipped from seemed to be exactly where she had just…
No way, was she seeing things?
It looked so much like an indirect kiss.
Oh my god.
Xia Xingtang’s thoughts drifted for a while. By the time she snapped back to reality, Pei Luoqing had already taken the messy assortment of pills from her hand and swallowed them.
“Are you feeling better?”
Pei Luoqing pursed her lips. “Not really.”
Xia Xingtang’s heart tightened again. “Forget it, why don’t I take you to the hospital now?”
True to her word, she reached out to support Pei Luoqing’s shoulder, ready to help her up.
Pei Luoqing patted her hand and said helplessly, “I’m just a bit too full.”
Xia Xingtang was confused. “Huh?”
Pei Luoqing spoke slowly, “Have you ever seen anyone brew granules in such a huge cup?”
Only then did Xia Xingtang realize her mistake. But seeing that Pei Luoqing had enough energy to joke with her, she relaxed slightly. Straightening up, she began to look around Pei Luoqing’s room.
This was the first time she had stepped into Pei Luoqing’s room since returning from the hospital.
Their bedrooms were on opposite sides of the villa, and she hadn’t felt comfortable enough to come in before. She had expected it to be decorated in the black, white, and gray palette favored by domineering CEOs, with sleek black marble floors or something similar.
But now that she saw it, it wasn’t so different from her own room after all.
The color scheme was similar, and aside from personal trinkets, the rest was more or less the same.
After Pei Luoqing took her medicine, Xia Xingtang had originally planned to go back to her own room to sleep.
But for some reason, she hesitated. Instead, she dragged the ottoman from the foot of the bed to the side, sat down, propped her chin in her hands, and stayed with Pei Luoqing.
Pei Luoqing was not just surprised, she found it rather peculiar.
She let out a soft laugh, pulling Xia Xingtang out of her daze.
“What are you laughing at?”
“Your expression is so serious, as if I’ve contracted some terminal illness.” Pei Luoqing spoke leisurely. “Are you really that worried about me?”
Pei Luoqing didn’t look well. Even though she mustered the energy to tease Xia Xingtang a little, she seemed to have no strength left.
The strands of hair at her temples were damp with sweat, and her lips were still pale. Xia Xingtang swallowed the retort she had in mind and sighed. “Stop talking and rest for a while.”
Xia Xingtang tore open a cooling patch from the bedside. “I’ll keep track of the time. I’ll leave after you fall asleep.”
“It’s fine, I’m not sleepy yet. I can keep track of time myself.”
“Then what if you need water or have to use the bathroom later?”
Pei Luoqing sighed helplessly. “I just have a fever. I’m not incapable of taking care of myself.”
“But what if you get delirious from the fever!”
Pei Luoqing chuckled dryly. “Well, no need to curse me like that, is there?”
Xia Xingtang was just trying to be kind. Seeing her goodwill unappreciated, she stood up expressionlessly.
Just as she turned her head, her wrist was suddenly grabbed by Pei Luoqing.
Xia Xingtang had a naturally cool constitution, and her hands grew especially cold at night. The sudden warmth of the touch made her instinctively curl her fingertips.
Without turning around, she asked, “What are you doing?”
Pei Luoqing asked softly, “Didn’t you say you’d wait until I fell asleep before leaving?”
Xia Xingtang replied irritably, “You’re so articulate, I don’t think you need my company at all.”
“Hmm…” Pei Luoqing frowned, her other hand pressing against her temple.
Xia Xingtang felt a pang of worry and finally turned around to check on her. Though the hand holding hers wasn’t gripping tightly, she could have easily shaken it off, she made no move to do so.
“Are you getting a headache? I told you to lie still and not move around.” Xia Xingtang pulled the blanket up over Pei Luoqing and reapplied the fever-reducing patch to her forehead.
Then, quietly, she settled back into the armchair beside the bed.
Pei Luoqing shifted inward, making space on the bed. “Do you want to come up?”
Xia Xingtang silently stared at the empty spot. Pei Luoqing didn’t seem to have any cold symptoms, just a slight fever. It probably wouldn’t be contagious if they shared the bed.
Besides, after that strange, half-forgotten dream, she really didn’t want to go back to her room alone.
Her mind wrestled with the decision, torn for a moment.
Well, it wasn’t like they hadn’t slept together before, right?
After a long pause, the temptation of the warm bed won her over. She mumbled awkwardly, “Is this really appropriate?”
“You’re really planning to go back to your room?” Pei Luoqing’s voice was soft, almost deliberately coaxing. “You little heartless one, who do you think I got sick for?”
The guilt Xia Xingtang had almost forgotten surged back with Pei Luoqing’s last words.
Under normal circumstances, she might have accused Pei Luoqing of being melodramatic. But seeing her pale face, Xia Xingtang felt as if her body had stiffened, unable to take a step away.
“I…”
In the dimly lit bedroom, Pei Luoqing’s voice carried a subtle, almost hypnotic persuasion as she casually hinted, “Sleeping here is perfectly legal.”
