The Amnesiac Drama Queen Is Crashing the Live Stream - Chapter 16
Xia Xingtang stayed at Xia Qingyue’s place for two more days when she suddenly received several calls from unfamiliar numbers.
At first, she assumed they were telemarketing calls, after all, in a good mood once, she had bought an apartment simply because a real estate agent was particularly persuasive.
But now, she wasn’t in the mood, so she hung up.
The calls, however, persisted relentlessly, with multiple unknown numbers taking turns to dial.
For a moment, she almost wondered if Huanyu had gone bankrupt and these people were coming to collect debts.
Fortunately, the callers were quite perceptive. When they couldn’t get through, they sent emails to Xia Xingtang instead.
The content of the emails was more or less the same: after attaching their credentials and contracts with the company, they clearly stated that they were newly appointed professional managers of certain companies and that Xia Xingtang could share any ideas or requests with them in the future.
Xia Xingtang initially suspected it was a scam, but the documents were complete, and they all pertained to several small companies she co-owned with Pei Luoqing.
Asking Pei Luoqing about it now felt awkward, so she forwarded the emails to Xia Qingyue for verification.
The result, however, turned out to be true.
They were indeed newly appointed managers, every single one of them.
Upon learning this, Xia Xingtang felt a subtle mix of emotions.
Could it really be Pei Luoqing, who had once insisted that people couldn’t be fired without cause, who had done this?
No way.
Didn’t Pei Luoqing value these interests more than her, a mere pawn?
How… how could she voluntarily replace the people she had worked so hard to win over?
Unless, Pei Luoqing was taking the initiative to make amends?
The moment this thought crossed her mind, Xia Xingtang felt a flicker of secret delight.
At the same time, she couldn’t help but look down on such a belated effort, making amends without even a hint of creativity, merely correcting past mistakes.
Didn’t she know she should bring along a few tens of millions to show sincerity?
Even if she didn’t have that much money, couldn’t she at least buy her a small gift?
Xia Xingtang’s gaze drifted to the outdoor swimming pool on the balcony outside the window. In early summer, even the breeze in Yuncheng carried a hint of warmth. Her eyes shifted thoughtfully, and she quickly made up her mind.
Over this period, she had given Pei Luoqing quite a bit of money in various ways. Surely Pei Luoqing could afford to buy her a swimsuit, right?
Yu Feifei had just asked if she wanted to attend a swimwear show by a certain brand, perfect timing.
Opening Pei Luoqing’s WeChat page, she stared at the neatly arranged transaction records in their chat history.
Xia Xingtang hesitated, wondering if she should try to ease the tension first.
So, she sent a sticker of a dog peeking out cautiously from the shadows.
Pei Luoqing, who usually never replied to messages, responded immediately this time: So, I’m not blocked by you after all?
The words instantly played in Xia Xingtang’s mind with Pei Luoqing’s signature sarcastic, nonchalant tone.
Xia Xingtang typed furiously on the screen: Besides blocking, I could just delete you. Want to give it a try? (Smiling emoji.jpg)
Pei Luoqing: What would you do if you couldn’t find me then?
Xia Xingtang was utterly speechless.
If she blocked her, why would she ever want to find her again?
Suppressing her anger, she decided it was pointless to reason with such a woman.
It would only lower her own emotional intelligence.
She forwarded the promotional materials for the swimwear show to Pei Luoqing instead.
After waiting ten minutes with no response, Xia Xingtang suddenly had a bad feeling. Sure enough, the next second, Pei Luoqing sent over a few pictures.
In the photos, a group of aunties were wearing one-piece swimsuits, performing under indoor studio lights in a “sunset glow” theme.
In stark contrast to what Xia Xingtang had sent over.
Especially the flamboyant label of a certain discount platform in the bottom right corner, which was simply jaw-dropping.
The Second Miss Xia never wore clothes costing less than six figures, thank you very much, she’d break out in hives if she did.
Was what Pei Luoqing sent even considered clothing?
That was a rag.
Suppressing the urge to block her, Xia Xingtang calmly sent a message, hoping to awaken Pei Luoqing’s conscience:
【Don’t you have anything else you want to say to me?】
【Yes.】 Pei Luoqing replied again, attaching the centerpiece swimsuit from Xia Xingtang’s link.
Xia Xingtang’s eyes lit up, waiting obediently for Pei Luoqing to make the payment.
Instead, she received:
【The fabric of my glasses cloth is more substantial than this swimsuit.】
Xia Xingtang: ……
She was seriously starting to doubt whether Pei Luoqing wanted to reconcile or declare war on her.
She tried to suppress her fiery temper, taking a deep breath, only to find she still couldn’t hold it in.
So, she let it erupt.
Xia Xingtang retorted sarcastically:
【Oh? May I ask, dear, which eyewear store did you buy your glasses from that gifted you such a large glasses cloth? I’m so envious and would love one too, to give to my wife, who’s about to go survive in the wilderness. What do you think?】
Pei Luoqing: 【Let’s go with the blue set.】
The two messages appeared simultaneously. Xia Xingtang’s fake, customer-service smile froze on her face as she suddenly grasped Pei Luoqing’s meaning.
Her fingers moved faster than her brain, swiftly recalling the message she had just sent.
She guiltily pretended it had never been sent.
Little did she expect Pei Luoqing wouldn’t let it slide:
【I see your intention to kick me out of the house now.】
Xia Xingtang: ……
So what? Do you want me to apologize?
Who’s the one trying to make amends here anyway!
And why the blue set instead of the white one?
Don’t think she didn’t know, the blue one had the most fabric.
Old-fashioned.
So archaic.
Pei Luoqing replied again:
【Oh my, I wonder who dropped this sapphire necklace? It must belong to Miss Xia Xingtang, the one with the blue swimsuit, right?】
When Xia Xingtang saw the sapphire necklace Pei Luoqing sent, her furious typing came to an abrupt halt.
At sixteen, Xia Xingtang didn’t know much about jewelry, but she could tell from the picture that it had a soft, radiant glow, it must be something valuable.
Although the idea of wearing such a necklace with a swimsuit was absurd, it was, after all, money Pei Luoqing had voluntarily spent on her.
Very commendable.
The thought that this might have drained all of Pei Luoqing’s savings from the past three years instantly lifted Xia Xingtang’s mood.
She replied with restraint:
【Fine, I’ll reluctantly consider that acceptable.】
A few seconds later, the other side replied, but with a rather assertive tone:
【So, can I come see you now?】
Xia Xingtang: 【…】
Oh.
Even the Big Bad Wolf pretended more sincerely than you.
Once Xia Xingtang was somewhat appeased, she checked the time. It would still take a while for Pei Luoqing to arrive.
The argument that day had started because she had disturbed Pei Luoqing. So, in light of Pei Luoqing taking the initiative to come find her…
The Second Miss Xia decided to let bygones be bygones and reluctantly return a small favor to Pei Luoqing.
However, having lost her memory for three years, Xia Xingtang had no recollection of Pei Luoqing and was completely clueless about her preferences.
After hesitating for a moment, Xia Xingtang pushed open Xia Qingyue’s door.
After all, the only mutual friend she shared with Pei Luoqing was Xia Qingyue.
After all, Pei Luoqing and Xia Qingyue had known each other for so many years, surely she had some understanding of her, right?
When Xia Xingtang pushed open the door, Xia Qingyue had just taken off her towel and was pulling her pajamas on. Hearing the noise behind her, she quickly finished dressing and turned around. “What do you want?” she snapped, her tone noticeably irritable.
Xia Xingtang had been looking at her phone when she opened the door and hadn’t seen what had just happened. Frowning, she retorted, “Why are you so aggressive? Did you swallow a bomb or something?”
“Don’t you know you’re supposed to knock before entering my room? What if it wasn’t a good time?”
Xia Xingtang curiously scanned the room, not missing a single corner. “The only reason it wouldn’t be a good time is if I had a brother-in-law. You, do you?”
“Shut up. If you have something to say, say it.”
“I just… I just came to ask you something pretty important.” Xia Xingtang hesitated. “Well, it’s just…”
Xia Qingyue’s expression turned serious. “Did Pei Luoqing bully you again?”
Xia Xingtang shook her head, looking troubled. “I… I just wanted to ask, what do you know about Pei Luoqing’s hobbies?” Then, as if feeling she hadn’t said enough, she added, “If you’ve ever had a crush on her, don’t recommend any of the tactics you used to me.”
Xia Qingyue: …
An eerie silence filled the air.
It wasn’t until Xia Xingtang grew impatient that she broke it. “Say something, will you?”
Xia Qingyue walked toward Xia Xingtang with a strained smile, gritting her teeth as she asked, “Are you and Pei Luoqing doing this on purpose?”
“What do you mean, on purpose? If you want to talk, talk. If not, forget it.” Xia Xingtang shot her a disdainful glance and muttered, “Why did I even think to ask someone like you, a lonely old spinster?”
Xia Qingyue grabbed a nearby pillow and was about to hurl it at Xia Xingtang.
Xia Xingtang dodged quickly, and just then, the doorbell rang, saving her from imminent domestic violence.
When the door opened, it was Pei Luoqing, who had rushed over looking travel-worn. Though she was dressed neatly, her face showed clear signs of fatigue.
Seeing her, Xia Qingyue redirected all the anger she’d built up from Xia Xingtang’s remarks toward Pei Luoqing. She pulled her sister behind her and demanded, “What are you doing here? Did I say you could pick her up?”
No one invited her in, so Pei Luoqing leaned casually against the entryway and replied, “Xia Qingyue, can’t you be a little more mature?”
Xia Qingyue shot back, “What did you say?”
Pei Luoqing answered calmly, “Xia Xingtang has grown up. You need to learn to take care of yourself and stop clinging to your sister all the time.”
Xia Qingyue was so angry she almost laughed. She pulled Xia Xingtang closer and deliberately instructed, “Tangtang, don’t listen to her. Remember to come home often in the future.”
Pei Luoqing corrected her, “When Xia Xingtang visits you, it’s called ‘returning to her maiden home.’ When she’s with me, that’s called ‘going home.’ Do you understand?”
The biting sarcasm perfectly echoed Xia Xingtang’s earlier “lonely old spinster” remark. It was as if the two had planned their matching insults in advance.
Xia Qingyue couldn’t help but suspect that these two weren’t actually fighting, they were just teaming up to annoy her.
“You have three seconds. Both of you, get out.”
