The Aloof Omega Caught the Eye of a Clingy Sweetheart - Chapter 26
You Song suddenly developed a high fever, catching Jian Qiuyi completely off guard. She quickly carried You Song back to her room and called for a doctor.
Recently, You Song had been under tremendous stress partly due to work-related exhaustion, and partly because of the long-term use of suppressants. The closer she got to her heat cycle, the more prone she was to complications.
A fever was one of the most common symptoms.
News of You Song’s fever and unconsciousness spread quickly, causing widespread concern. Zhang Zi immediately dropped what she was doing and rushed over. Seeing You Song lying on the bed with flushed cheeks from the fever, she frowned. “She was fine earlier, how did she suddenly get so sick?”
Jian Qiuyi sat by the bed, gently wiping You Song’s neck and wrists with a damp towel to help lower her temperature.
“Didn’t you call a doctor?” Zhang Zi asked.
Jian Qiuyi glanced at her before looking away. “I already did. They’re on their way.”
Though she could have called an ambulance, Jian Qiuyi remembered how resistant You Song had been to hospitals the last time she was sick preferring to argue in the car rather than go. This time, with You Song unconscious from the fever, Jian Qiuyi didn’t dare send her to the hospital directly. Instead, she arranged for a doctor to make a house call.
House calls usually came from private clinics and weren’t cheap, but to avoid You Song scolding her when she woke up, Jian Qiuyi was willing to pay the price.
The doctor arrived quickly, a beta accompanied by a nurse. After a brief examination, they administered medication and an IV, finishing the entire process in about twenty minutes.
“The patient isn’t in serious condition. The fever should break within two hours after the injection,” the doctor told Jian Qiuyi and Zhang Zi. “Has she been under a lot of stress lately?”
The two exchanged glances before Zhang Zi nodded. “Yes, we’ve been swamped with work for days.”
From business trips to contract negotiations, You Song had been constantly busy. First, she and Zhang Zi were tied up with contract discussions, then they rushed to finalize deals with clients. When the raw material crisis hit, You Song worked tirelessly to negotiate with suppliers barely getting any rest.
Especially during the raw material crisis, Zhang Zi had been just as overwhelmed, losing sleep over it. Now that You Song had collapsed, Zhang Zi felt the weight of responsibility even more.
Once the doctor left, Zhang Zi turned to Jian Qiuyi with a frown. “Should we report this to your mother?”
Jian Qiuyi gave her a sidelong glance before walking back to the bed, gazing at You Song, whose fever had subsided but whose face remained pale. Slowly, she said, “Aren’t you supposed to be negotiating with overseas suppliers? I’ll handle this.”
After half a day of unconsciousness, You Song woke up feeling weak all over.
Someone seemed to be nearby, but her vision was too blurry to make out who it was. With a faint voice, she called out, “Water…”
The dehydration from high fever left You Song feeling extremely thirsty. When she felt a straw being brought to her lips, she instinctively sipped some lukewarm water. As the water entered her system, her mind cleared slightly. When she saw that it was Jian Qiuyi sitting beside her, tending to her needs, she froze completely.
“Sister.”
Jian Qiuyi looked down at You Song, who had just woken up and was still somewhat dazed. She found this fragile side of her particularly endearing. If it weren’t for the fact that You Song was still ill, she would have pulled her into an embrace right then and there.
Though her mind was filled with wild imaginings, Jian Qiuyi’s expression remained perfectly composed. She spoke softly to You Song, “You’re sick. You had a high fever of 39 degrees. It’s come down a bit now, but you still have a slight fever.”
“I… had a fever?” You Song struggled to sit up. Jian Qiuyi set the cup aside, leaned against the headboard, and helped You Song settle into her arms.
Though You Song felt a bit awkward, they had already been intimate before. Plus, she had no strength left to resist, so she didn’t bother making a fuss about being held. It wasn’t like she’d lose a limb over it.
“Has Mr. Liu left the hotel yet?” You Song asked with a light cough.
Mr. Liu was the other executive You Song had failed to meet before collapsing. Jian Qiuyi thought for a moment, still holding her, and said, “He probably has. I’ve been taking care of you all day and didn’t pay attention.”
You Song frowned and tried to glance out the window, only to find the curtains tightly drawn. The dim yellow light in the room suggested it was already late at night.
“How long have I been asleep?” You Song asked.
“Almost a full day,” Jian Qiuyi replied, noticing how thin You Song felt in her arms. She tugged the blanket up over her and added, “It’s past 10 PM now. Are you hungry? Should I order some food or get takeout?”
You Song shook her head and tried to get up. “I need to see Mr. Liu. I have to ask if he can help us with this.”
But as soon as she sat up straight, dizziness overwhelmed her. The world spun, and she collapsed back into Jian Qiuyi’s arms, startling the younger woman so much that her voice rose sharply.
“What are you doing?!” Jian Qiuyi scolded. “It’s just a contract! The company isn’t yours, why are you pushing yourself so hard?!”
You Song grimaced, nauseous from the dizziness, but still insisted, “You don’t understand. I’m the project lead. I have to handle this properly.”
Jian Qiuyi couldn’t hold back her frustration. “Look at the state you’re in! How are you supposed to work like this?”
“…It’s none of your concern.”
“You Song!”
Hearing her full name spoken so abruptly, You Song looked up in shock, disbelief written across her face. “What did you just call me?”
Jian Qiuyi glared at her, exasperated, one arm tightening around You Song’s waist to pull her closer, forcing their eyes to meet.
“Can’t you think about your own health for once? In this state, you can’t even get out of bed, and you still want to go negotiate with Mr. Liu? Do you really think that’ll go well?”
Listening to this, You Song felt something inexplicable skip in her chest. Her gaze at Jian Qiuyi held a trace of confusion.
Was this girl… worried about her?
You Song wasn’t unfamiliar with working while sick, but no one had ever really stopped her before at most, she’d receive some half-hearted concern. This was the first time she’d seen someone like Jian Qiuyi react with such furious intensity.
What’s the point? Her body was her own, not Jian Qiuyi’s.
Her thoughts were a tangled mess. She turned her head away, avoiding Jian Qiuyi’s gaze, but her heart inexplicably raced.
Jian Qiuyi’s pheromones enveloped her. Even though she didn’t know You Song was an Omega, she still used her scent to soothe her.
Her words were harsh, but her pheromones were unexpectedly gentle.
You Song lowered her eyes and, after a long pause, finally said, “I understand. Later, help me call President Liu. He probably isn’t asleep yet at this hour. Ask him what he thinks. If he really doesn’t agree…”
Jian Qiuyi looked at her. “And if he really doesn’t agree?”
You Song sighed and met her gaze. “Then I’ll just have to take responsibility myself.”
Jian Qiuyi fell silent for a long moment before exhaling helplessly. She pulled You Song into her arms, nuzzling affectionately against her warm cheek. “Jiejie, when will you stop being so stubborn? You could let me share your burdens sometimes.”
“How could you share them?” You Song said helplessly. “You don’t understand business matters.”
Strictly speaking, this wasn’t entirely You Song’s fault, but her name was still on the contract. Not only would her bonuses and year-end dividends vanish, but she might even face a demotion or transfer.
You Song wasn’t afraid of those consequences, but the thought of not being able to save up for her surgery again left her frustrated.
It was as if fate itself didn’t want her to have that operation.
Hearing the rare note of resignation in You Song’s voice, Jian Qiuyi couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
“You’re laughing?” You Song stared at her in disbelief. “Do you know how much money we’re losing on this deal?”
“Who said we’re losing money?” Jian Qiuyi hugged her tighter, grinning smugly. “I have a way to fix this crisis. Do you believe me, jiejie?”
You Song didn’t answer, but her expression clearly spelled out two words, I don’t.
“Then how about this?” Jian Qiuyi laced their fingers together, pressing close until their faces were almost touching.
“If I can solve this crisis for you, promise me one thing, okay?”
The proximity made You Song’s pulse quicken, her cheeks flushing pink. She tried to squirm out of Jian Qiuyi’s embrace, but the woman held her firmly in place.
“You—!”
You Song’s face burned with indignation. Her hands were trapped, her waist encircled, even her forehead pressed against Jian Qiuyi’s. Weak from illness, she had no strength left like a lamb waiting for slaughter, entirely at the other’s mercy.
Jian Qiuyi blinked playfully. “Aren’t you going to hear my solution first, jiejie?”
You Song met her gaze. “Go on.”
“Do you remember me mentioning before that I once crossed the Pacific Ocean abroad?” Jian Qiuyi smiled. “The classmate who crossed the Pacific with me back then happens to be the only daughter of our current raw material supplier. She’s probably taken over the family business by now. If I reach out to her, I’m sure she’ll do me this favor and keep the prices unchanged for this batch.”
Upon hearing this, You Song’s eyes lit up. “Are you really certain this can be negotiated?”
“Of course,” Jian Qiuyi replied. “We share a life-and-death bond. Her parents dote on her immensely, and we’re only asking for this one-time accommodation. We’ll continue future collaborations at market prices.”
“If that’s truly the case, then this is wonderful.”
Once raw material prices rose, You Song’s contracts would naturally follow suit. As long as they weathered this crisis, the rest would be manageable.
You Song looked at the person before her and couldn’t help but marvel. “I never imagined you’d actually know the supplier’s only daughter. It seems your mother didn’t just send you abroad to get a diploma.”
“Of course not,” Jian Qiuyi chuckled. “Now, sister, could you promise me one thing?”
You Song pondered, assuming Jian Qiuyi’s request would inevitably involve something risqué. But considering the immense help she’d provided, a little compromise wouldn’t hurt. You Song glanced up at Jian Qiuyi before murmuring, “Go ahead, say it.”
Jian Qiuyi leaned in close, whispering into You Song’s ear, “Sister, I want you…”
