Xie Chouqiu’s roar wasn’t just heard by Su Ren; several passing students heard it loud and clear too.
Divorce?
Someone else?!
Zhang Jiaxi was the closest. He had originally intended to catch Su Ren before class to deliver a graduate school recommendation letter, but he never expected to overhear such explosive news!
So, Professor Su and Professor Xie were in a secret marriage?
And now they were getting a divorce?
And the reason was actually that Professor Su had someone else on the outside?!?
Su Ren’s face was as calm as deep water, but his right eyelid twitched from the sheer irritation Xie Chouqiu was causing him. The scent of Xie Chouqiu’s pheromones made his legs feel weak, adding to his frustration.
Feeling utterly annoyed, Su Ren reached out and tapped Xie Chouqiu’s head, much like one would knock on a watermelon to check if it’s ripe.
“What is this?” Su Ren asked.
Xie Chouqiu blinked, confused. “What?”
Su Ren continued, “Is this just a container for soda?”
“Why are you insulting me?” Xie Chouqiu grumbled.
Aware of the students nearby, Su Ren didn’t want the “someone else” rumors to spread further. Suppressing his anger, he asked Xie Chouqiu one more question, “How did you reach that conclusion?”
Xie Chouqiu snapped back, “You can memorize his phone number by heart, isn’t that suspicious?”
Su Ren let out a cold laugh. “Suspicious? Then how about I make up another one on the spot? Just don’t expect it to be the same as the last.”
Xie Chouqiu blinked again, his slow-processing brain struggling to keep up.
In the next moment, the elegant and cold young man grabbed Xie Chouqiu’s collar and abruptly yanked the stunned man aside. “I am going to my Q&A study session now. Whatever is on your mind, we can talk about it after I finish my class.”
As soon as Su Ren finished speaking, he pulled himself out of Xie Chouqiu’s grasp with a frozen expression.
Zhang Jiaxi stood there, jaw dropped.
Xie Chouqiu stood there, staring like a stunned dog.
One tall and one short, they both watched as Su Ren straightened his ruffled clothes and walked away with irritable haste, leaving the two of them staring at each other in the hallway.
Xie Chouqiu rubbed his chin, his expression darkening.
Zhang Jiaxi licked his lips, looking hesitant.
After a few seconds, Zhang Jiaxi gathered his courage and stepped forward, offering a tactful hint to Xie Chouqiu. “Professor Xie, about that person Professor Su mentioned… he probably meant ‘Ni Youbing,’ right? Erm, that homophone [Ni Youbing sounds like ‘You are sick’ in Chinese], I think he just meant…”
Zhang Jiaxi couldn’t finish his sentence because Professor Xie’s gaze was far from friendly. The student choked on his words, made a zipping motion over his mouth, and scrambled away.
Xie Chouqiu was left alone, standing in the corridor with a gloomy face, unable to move for a long time.
Beijing Foreign Studies BBS < Anonymous Section < Gossip & Watercooler
Topic: Super Explosive! SR and XCQ are secretly married and currently divorcing!
1L (OP): Ten minutes ago, I saw XCQ cornering SR right in front of SR’s office! SR said he wanted a divorce, and XCQ accused SR of having someone else behind his back! They almost started fighting!!!
2L: ?
3L: ?
4L: Is OP crazy? Rut period or heat period? Are you hallucinating?
5L (OP): I saw it with my own eyes! I was standing a bit far away, but XCQ was so clear! He was practically screaming! It’s 100% true!!! Keywords: 1) Divorce, 2) Having someone else behind my back!
6L: What is this? Even though their visuals match, they are rarely even seen in the same frame. During chemistry department meetings, they clearly dislike each other. How can OP dream up this kind of relationship?
7L: Ahhh, what have I discovered?! My ‘arch-rivals’ ship might actually be real?!
8L: I heard from the chemistry department that SR has had some sado-masochistic marks on him lately? Could it be Xie?
9L: If Xie really did that… I support the divorce! But what’s this about OP saying Su cheated? Are they really that messy?
10L (OP): Don’t ask me, I was standing far away and didn’t quite catch the cheating part… but what I said is 100% true, believe it or not.
11L: I don’t believe it. They aren’t even friends, let alone married… only my roommate, who ships everything, would believe OP.
12L: Um… do you guys know Xie’s background? It’s said… Xie is an Enigma. Before coming to our school to teach, he had a reputation as a fierce bandit in the military. He was a favorite in the command units. No one knows why he came to our school as a temporary lecturer! Could it be… the marriage is real, and he came here specifically for Su?
13L: No way… is he that devoted? Thinking about it that way actually makes it kind of cute?
14L (Insider 2): Breaking news! I’m currently in the Q&A study session, and I can very clearly… smell a scent on SR! I can’t describe exactly what it is, it’s very light! But I’m certain it’s definitely pheromones!
15L: ?
16L (OP): ?
17L: 14L, don’t leave! Tell us more!
18L (Insider 2): I’m not sure whose it is… because it’s so faint. Anyway, as soon as I smelled it, my legs went weak. God knows I’m an Alpha! How could my legs go weak?
19L: ?
20L: Could it really be…
21L (Insider 3): Ahem.
22L (Insider 3): I was going to keep my mouth shut, but I took a nervous look at the BBS and, as expected… sigh… it’s impossible to hide.
23L: What’s the situation? Don’t keep us in suspense!
24L (Insider 3): First, I was there for the scene OP described, and I was the student closest to them. I heard the entire conversation. Let me correct one thing, SR definitely didn’t cheat, I won’t explain the details. But the secret marriage is real, and the divorce is likely in progress. As for saying Xie is abusive, uh, what I saw was Su hitting Xie on the head…
25L: ? Are you guys just making things up now? If you keep spinning this yarn, I might actually start believing it??
26L (Insider 2): Fine, here’s a photo I just took in the study hall. Pictures don’t lie:
[Image 1.jpg]: Su Ren wearing glasses, looking down, skin as white as snow, eyebrows slightly furrowed, with a thin layer of sweat on his skin.
[Image 2.jpg]: Someone peeking through the door, but the face is blurry.
[Image 3.jpg]: Image 2 is zoomed in and processed, it’s Xie Chouqiu.
Once the photos were posted, the thread was shared over a thousand times within an hour! In just half an hour, the number of new registrations on the BBS reached the thousands, all just to catch a glimpse of the gossip between Su Ren and Xie Chouqiu.
While it was exploding online, the physical Q&A study room was even more chaotic.
The Q&A session was a tradition at Beijing Foreign Studies. Teachers took turns on duty, and each department had one open only to their own students. Since the school had plenty of study rooms, students rarely visited other departments’ sessions.
But today’s chemistry department study room… was an exception.
Su Ren endured his weak legs and discomfort, focusing on explaining a problem to a student for a while. When he looked up again, he found that the study room, which had only been half-full, was now packed to the brim.
The winter sunlight poured in through the window, casting a warm glow over Su Ren’s cold, pale skin. However, Su Ren’s expression was anything but warm.
Xie Chouqiu’s pheromones from earlier were indeed affecting him. Even now, he found it hard to keep his back straight, and even while sitting, his legs felt shaky.
And now, with so many people, the pheromones in the room were a chaotic mess.
Su Ren’s cold, sharp gaze swept over the crowd, and anger began to rise in his heart. He saw:
Underachievers who usually never listened, never showed up for study sessions, and were never seen except during exams, were here.
Alpha class bullies who usually spent ten out of eight sentences joking with him or acting like delinquents, were here.
Students he had never seen before, who likely weren’t even from this major, were here.
What were they here for? To study?
Impossible.
Su Ren understood the situation instantly.
He dropped his pen, took off his glasses, and sat on the high podium with his arms crossed. His face was as cold as a vengeful god as he looked down at the dense nest of… wide-eyed students staring up at him with burning curiosity.
One student saw him look up and simply couldn’t hold back. They raised their hand and asked in a small voice:
“Professor Su, I’ve had a question I’ve wanted to ask for a long time. Can I ask you?”
Su Ren knit his brows. “Speak.”
“Does, does your boyfriend really… mistreat you?”
Su Ren had expected a question about the curriculum, not this. He raised an eyebrow in deep displeasure and said, “Fine, let me clarify. He… has never committed domestic violence against me. Don’t let your imaginations run wild. If there was a problem, I would call the police.”
The students let out a long sigh of relief.
Ah, so it’s not domestic violence. That’s fine then.
But if that was the case, could those marks just be a bit of consensual spice? Many students looked excited. “Then, then! Are you and Professor Xie, cough, really a couple?”
Su Ren gave a very slight shake of his head, gesturing for the student beside him to step down.
Holding onto the desk for support, Su Ren slowly stood up. “If you want to ask questions, you have to follow the rules. Now it’s my turn to ask you something, whoever isn’t here for an actual study session, stand up.”
No one stood up.
There was only some stifled laughter and whispering.
Su Ren didn’t waste any words and began a countdown:
“Three.”
No one moved.
“Two.”
Silence.
“One.”
Deadly sil—
Wait?
At the back door, a tall figure suddenly stood up. Following the half-open back door, they slipped out in a flash.
Su Ren originally thought it was just a well-behaved student leaving, but the crowd below erupted in excitement.
A girl covered her mouth and laughed, “Holy crap! He’s so obedient!”
Another person beside her also whispered, “Ahhh, I’m shipping it! Xie-Su is real!”
Only then did Su Ren realize who had just left.
It was Xie Chouqiu, who had been caught lurking and felt embarrassed.
Su Ren’s expression remained neutral, seemingly indifferent. He picked up several sheets of A4 paper, took a long stride, and handed them to the student in the front row. “Pass these down. Everyone, write your names.”
The students looked wary. Oh no! What do we do? Should I write my roommate’s name?
Su Ren said softly, “You’re in luck. I’m hosting a banquet for you all, and you don’t even need to bring a gift.”
The students brightened up immediately. “Yo! Awesome!”
“Pass it back quickly!”
“Write your names, hurry up! Did you not eat? Why are you writing so slowly?!”
When Su Ren personally collected the sheets of paper covered in names and stood back on the podium, there was a lively wave of cheering from below.
“When is the banquet, Professor Su?! Is it really with Professor Xie?!”
“Someone actually said you were getting a divorce. Spreading that kind of rumor is too much!”
“Hehehe, hehehehe, I’m so glad I skipped class for this. Otherwise, I’d miss out on such a good thing! Our male god is even letting us off the gift-giving hook. So considerate, hehehe…”
Su Ren’s permanently icy face broke into a smile that was even warmer, almost like a spring breeze.
“Yes, of course you don’t need to. Have you ever seen anyone bring a gift to a farewell dinner?”
The gullible students froze. “Huh?”
Su Ren continued, “For those of you who skipped class to come here, your names will be sent to your counselors. Whether you are from this department or not, I will find you.”
“Oh! No!!”
“Furthermore, everyone on this list, regardless of whether you actually intended to study or not, must submit a set of chemistry problems from years one through four by December 31st. This includes copying the questions, providing your own solution steps, explaining where your issues are, why you got things wrong, and what you don’t understand. Do not take this lightly. Hand them over to”
Su Ren paused, looked down at the list, and amidst the suffocating groans of agony, chose a name.
“Hand them to Wang Lingyu. Where is Wang Lingyu? Stand up so they can see who you are.”
Wang Lingyu looked completely bewildered and innocent. “Why me?”
Su Ren didn’t answer directly but gave the final instruction. “Summarize them all. Once the New Year holiday is over, deliver them immediately to your Professor Xie.”
Wang Lingyu gasped, “Deliver them to Professor Xie?!”
The students’ cheering started up again, mixed with wails of despair. Many were asking “why.”
Su Ren gave a very faint, beautiful smile.
“He tricked me into grading 128 exam papers and 69 homework assignments. It’s only fair he has some work to do too.”
Xie Chouqiu, somewhere else: Huh?
Students: Wow… did I just get fed more ship fuel?
