The Aloof Beta Transmigrated as the Pretty Wife [Transmigration] - Chapter 28
Upon hearing those words, a faint, almost imperceptible flush rose to Su Ren’s sickly, pale cheeks. Despite the color, his expression remained stony.
The moment their eyes met, Su Ren spoke again.
“I can’t,” he said.
Xie Chouqiu’s brows shot up, and he instinctively reached out to grab Su Ren’s hand. “Why?”
Su Ren pulled his hand away and turned his back to him. “No reason.”
If anyone else had brushed him off like that, Xie Chouqiu would have lost his temper by now. But Su Ren’s porcelain-white nape still carried a faint trace of his own scent, and no matter how much frustration bubbled inside him, it refused to boil over.
Before long, Su Ren drifted into a deep sleep. His body was frail, and he had already pushed himself far beyond his limit.
In his dreams, Su Ren felt someone periodically lifting him up to wipe the cold sweat from his body, moving him from damp, sticky sheets to a fresh, dry, and fragrant bed. Su Ren reached out with stubborn persistence, feeling around to confirm that the specific small pads used for Omegas weren’t there. Only then did he huff in annoyance, burrowing his face back into the duvet.
After an unknown amount of time, a sharp prick stung Su Ren’s arm. A familiar pheromone was injected into his body via a syringe, finally soothing the restless heat simmering inside him.
In his hazy state, Su Ren heard Qi Chen’s voice.
“You two are already divorced?” Qi Chen asked.
“Why? Are you in a hurry?” Xie Chouqiu dodged the question.
“You prick… My point is, if you haven’t split yet, couldn’t you just give him a temporary mark? Why go through the trouble of extracting pheromones for an injection?”
“He doesn’t like it.”
“Doesn’t like what?”
Xie Chouqiu paused for a long moment before replying airily, “What else? He doesn’t like me.”
“Heh,” Qi Chen laughed, showing very little sympathy. “You deserve it. But, Mr. Xie, let me remind you one more time: this pheromone extraction method is strictly prohibited because it’s incredibly damaging to an Alpha’s body.”
“Thanks for the concern, Dr. Cao. But I’m an Enigma, we’re a bit different from Alphas.”
“My name is Qi, not Cao!”
Su Ren couldn’t open his eyes, listening as the two voices gradually faded away.
Su Ren slept for an entire day, undisturbed. However, after overhearing the conversation between Xie Chouqiu and Qi Chen, he found he couldn’t go back to sleep.
It was obvious that Xie Chouqiu had completely broken free from the system’s strings. Signs of him following the script were becoming rare, and Su Ren wasn’t even sure if the man had completed his missions. Furthermore, it was already time for a new task to be issued, yet the usually noisy Song Di hadn’t shown up to bother him.
Su Ren hated the sticky feeling on his skin. Since he couldn’t sleep, he forced himself out of bed and headed to the bathroom for a shower.
But while he was washing up, Su Ren discovered… a white, fluffy living creature in the corner of the bathroom—a snow-white lop-eared rabbit!
In an instant, Su Ren’s heart leapt as if struck by a bolt of electricity. He turned his gaze toward the corner, only to see a pair of large, crimson eyes staring roundly at his thighs. The creature looked lecherous, as if it had just downed a bottle of moonshine.
“Squeak”
Su Ren lowered his eyes coldly, offering no comment on this development as he wrapped himself in a bath towel. “Who are you? Where is Song Di?”
The rabbit ball spoke: “I am the Plot Supervisor, the cutest and strictest supervisor in the entire system, Tu Qiuqiu! Song Di can’t handle you two anymore, so I’m taking over! After all, you guys haven’t had sex a single time, yet you’ve cheated your way through to Mission 8! Skipping plots and finding loopholes has caused the story to deviate severely. Plus, your husband’s subconscious has completely escaped system control!”
Su Ren’s voice was indifferent. “Don’t use pet names. Use his actual name.”
Tu Qiuqiu ignored him and continued, “The system has formally decided to initiate the [Forced Protocol] to save the ‘Scum Alpha/Tragic Lover’ storyline and ensure the plot proceeds smoothly!”
Su Ren had finished drying himself. “Forced Protocol?”
Tu Qiuqiu hopped over to Su Ren’s feet. “At key plot points, the system will force you both to perform specific actions to drive the story toward its designated ending!”
“So, what do you want me to do now?”
“Due to external interference, Mission 8 for the two of you has been reset. You have to do it again. This time, the system’s mandatory requirements for you are:
-
-
Put on white silk stockings in public, in view of no fewer than 50 people!
-
-
-
At least 50% of the stockings must be visible; no covering them up!
-
-
-
Use every trick in the book to seduce Xie Chouqiu.
-
During the execution of these requirements, I, Tu Qiuqiu, will be supervising the entire process! That is all!”
Su Ren: “…”
Tu Qiuqiu stole a glance at Su Ren’s straight, fair legs and sighed with fake sympathy. “While you were sleeping, Xie Chouqiu already started the mission. There are only 20 hours left on the countdown!”
Su Ren’s gaze turned sharp, but he said nothing more. His lean frame was wrapped in a thin white bathrobe, looking somewhat frail and sickly, yet he was undeniably beautiful, clean and clear, like a sliver of cold, lonely moonlight.
Just then, Su Ren’s phone rang. A completely unknown number appeared on the screen.
[Erhai Road · Food Street]
It only took two days to erase the traces of a violent brawl. At seven in the evening, Erhai Road was teeming with people, a chaotic mess of sights and sounds. The mixed scent of charcoal grills, cigarettes, alcohol, and pheromones made Su Ren frown slightly.
With a cold, expressionless face, Su Ren pushed through the crowded street, heading toward the spot where he had originally agreed to meet Fang Zhen and the others two days ago. As he neared the location, he stopped and checked his phone.
No new messages.
Suddenly, a loud shout rang out: “Teacher Su! Over here!”
Su Ren turned around. He saw Qi Chen standing in front of the Dazhong Theater, waving enthusiastically.
Su Ren walked over and offered a polite nod. “Good evening, Dr. Cao.”
Qi Chen froze. “Huh?”
Su Ren’s brow knitted slightly, a hint of confusion in his eyes. “Is something wrong?”
“Haha, nothing,” Qi Chen said, forcing a smile. “Please, come inside. Teacher Xie has been waiting for you for a long time.”
“Understood.”
Lost in thought, Su Ren followed Qi Chen into the dimly lit theater. After only a few steps, he saw a tall, upright figure standing silhouetted against the warm orange glow of the stage lights.
Qi Chen: I hate everything.
