The Aloof Beta Transmigrated as the Pretty Wife [Transmigration] - Chapter 22
The front door swung open.
Su Ren froze on the spot, unable to believe his eyes.
There stood Su Shi, dressed in a pleated JK skirt a perfectly sweet, academic look. Clutching her suitcase, she stood outside with a radiant, beaming smile. “Brother!”
A moment later, the soft, fragrant girl threw herself into Su Ren’s arms.
The sharp, distant edges of Su Ren’s elegant face instantly softened. He gently wrapped an arm around Su Shi’s shoulders and asked, “Aren’t you supposed to be at school? Why the sudden return?”
Su Shi replied, “My classes haven’t been too heavy lately. Brother Chouqiu told me your heat reactions were pretty bad and that I should come back to help you through it. I figured if it was bad enough for him to notice, it must be really unbearable, so here I am!”
Su Ren blinked, casting a cold, sharp glare toward Xie Chouqiu.
Su Shi’s gaze drifted between the two of them, her eyes darting back and forth from her brother to Xie Chouqiu. She sensitively picked up on a strange, lingering tension between them. After watching for a long moment, her mouth fell open, wide enough to swallow an egg.
Covering her mouth in disbelief, she stammered, “You two… couldn’t be…? Huh…?”
Su Shi was petite, her head only reaching Su Ren’s chest, so she couldn’t catch a scent from his neck. However, even at chest level, she could clearly smell the scent of lemons. Those were pheromones that Brother Chouqiu would never normally release for anyone else to catch!
Su Shi finally lost her composure. “Brother! You, you’re not actually… together with Brother Chouqiu, are you?”
Su Ren was stunned. His cold, handsome face flushed with an awkwardness that left him speechless.
Xie Chouqiu, however, let out a mocking laugh. “How could that be possible?”
Su Shi hugged her brother’s waist, looking up with her fluffy little head. “Hmm, so you’re not?”
Su Ren also turned his gaze toward Xie Chouqiu.
Xie Chouqiu looked away. “Don’t you know him by now? Rest assured, your brother wouldn’t be with me even if every other human on Earth died off.”
Su Shi instinctively looked back at her brother.
She saw Su Ren knitting his brows deeply, his eyes cast downward, seemingly silent in his agreement with that statement.
Only then did Su Shi feel at ease, knowing her brother wouldn’t lie to her about something so significant.
Su Shi settled into Su Ren’s small apartment for the time being. Accompanying Su Ren through his difficult heat was the “mission” Xie Chouqiu had assigned her.
To be honest, Su Shi had been genuinely surprised when she received Xie Chouqiu’s call in the middle of the night.
“Su Ren needs a little love, otherwise he’ll bleed,” Xie Chouqiu had said in a very strange way. “Can you come back? Give him some love.”
It took Su Shi a long time to process and finally accept that phrasing.
An Omega in heat would probably need a lot of love.
As for the bleeding.
Su Shi didn’t quite understand it, being a Beta herself.
She also didn’t know why her own brother had suddenly turned into an Omega six months ago. When she first heard the news over the phone, she had been completely stunned.
Now that she was finally home, Su Shi could truly feel that her brother was indeed different from before.
Outside the window, the winter wind howled, and the snow fell heavily.
Today was the last day of 2022. Su Ren had no classes, and because he felt physically miserable, he hadn’t attended any research activities.
Thus, a vacant-eyed Su Ren and a bright-eyed Su Shi, one big and one small, lay side by side on the bed.
Su Ren squinted comfortably, listening to Su Shi tell jokes that weren’t particularly funny. Yet, every time she paused, he would give a soft, light laugh.
The two had been lying there since early morning, sharing more words than they had in years.
Su Shi had been studying in the UK for two years now, spending her days and nights grinding for credits. She felt that Su Ren worked incredibly hard to afford her education, so she couldn’t waste his money. She felt she couldn’t even face coming home if she wasn’t at the top of her class.
Su Ren was even busier. His work never stopped, no matter where he was. Even on his phone, academic papers were constantly scrolling.
Looking at his sister’s adorable face, Su Ren smiled with a sense of relaxation, letting out a long, silent breath of relief.
After listening to Su Shi talk for a very long time, Su Ren grew sleepy and involuntarily drifted into a sweet dream.
In that dream, there was Su Shi’s sweet voice, and she was gently patting his arm like a little rabbit, asking him:
“Brother~ Brother Chouqiu is leaving. He asked me to check if you’re still feeling unwell anywhere?”
Su Ren shook his head in a daze. Ever since Xie Chouqiu licked his neck yesterday, his heat symptoms had faded significantly. He was likely fine now.
Seeing that he was half-asleep, Su Shi figured that nothing had happened through the night and morning. Besides, it wasn’t like Brother Chouqiu could help much more here anyway, so she politely sent him on his way.
Before he left, Su Shi wanted to give Xie Chouqiu a small craft piece, but he declined.
“Brother Chouqiu, please take it. These two little rabbits are a pair. I’m giving one to you and one to my brother to thank you for taking care of him.”
For some reason, seeing Su Shi holding the little rabbit made Xie Chouqiu think of Su Ren as a child.
When they were young, Su Ren liked giving things away like this too.
If he had two candies, he’d give one to his sister and one to Xie Mudong.
If there was a pair of rabbits, he’d give one to his sister and one to Xie Mudong.
If he earned fifty dollars, he’d spend twenty-five on a novel for Su Shi and twenty-five on durian pastries for Xie Mudong.
It was as if, ever since their parents left, Su Ren refused to keep anything for himself.
“Then what about you?” Xie Chouqiu had jumped up in frustration back then. “The two of them are so inconsiderate! That money was clearly for your own study materials!”
Su Ren had blinked at him. “Do you think I look like someone who needs study materials?”
Xie Chouqiu: “Uh…”
Su Ren had said expressionlessly, “Stop imagining some tragic melodrama. I just don’t want to touch the inheritance, and I want to keep pampering them.”
Xie Chouqiu had looked at Su Ren with burning eyes, promising earnestly, “Then let me pamper you, okay?”
How had Su Ren answered him?
He didn’t exactly remember.
In short, it was a polite rejection.
Su Ren wouldn’t change, he would always reject him.
Pulling himself out of the memory, Xie Chouqiu glanced at the rabbit and said coldly to Su Shi, “No need. Just share them between the two of you.”
Su Shi blinked. “Huh?”
“Compared to my love, he still wants yours more.”
Xie Chouqiu left after dropping those words. Su Shi turned them over in her mind for a long time, the feeling growing weirder the more she thought about it.
Brother Chouqiu.
Is he jealous?
Xie Chouqiu: Yes.
