The Aloof Beta Transmigrated as the Pretty Wife [Transmigration] - Chapter 21
In Su Ren’s memory, the phrase “embarrassment” had never quite managed to stick to a person like Xie Chouqiu.
And as facts would have it, Xie Chouqiu indeed lacked any sense of the word.
His sharp canines didn’t bite down hard, his warm mouth simply covering Su Ren’s wound.
Su Ren had to admit that Xie Chouqiu’s pheromones were truly the best anesthetic, because the moment they seeped into the wound, the unease and sadness within his body were soothed almost instantly.
However, the more comfortable his body became, the colder Su Ren’s heart grew. He loathed being possessed, and he loathed this feeling of powerlessness even more.
Just as Su Ren’s expression iced over, spiraling into a state of mental self-loathing, Xie Chouqiu let go. He very gently cradled the back of Su Ren’s head and met those beautiful eyes, their noses nearly touching.
Startled, Su Ren closed his eyes reflexively, only to hear Xie Chouqiu’s deep, cool voice say, “Su Ren.”
“Yes?”
“It’s so strange,” Xie Chouqiu’s gaze was obsessed and dazed, staring unblinkingly at the tip of Su Ren’s nose, “I always feel like you should have been a Beta.”
Su Ren looked up at him briefly and replied impassively, “Is that so?”
“Yeah,” Xie Chouqiu furrowed his brows, appearing as though he were contemplating something serious. He then pulled an Omega-specific suppressant patch from his pocket, tore it open, and muttered, “Sometimes, I just feel…
“Looking at your gender is more confusing than looking at my own career path, sometimes I think you’re a delicate O, but then other times I feel like you’re a Beta. It comes in waves, it’s so weird…” Xie Chouqiu scratched his head.
Su Ren paused for a moment before taking the patch from his hand. His voice was flat, “It doesn’t matter.”
Xie Chouqiu blinked, “What doesn’t matter?”
“I am who I am, it has nothing to do with gender.”
Xie Chouqiu licked his lips and helped Su Ren straighten his collar, letting out a sigh, “Yeah.”
Once class was over, the two of them returned home together.
Xie Chouqiu spent two hours preparing a lavish meal.
Beer duck, sour soup fatty beef, and sweet and sour pork ribs, all of Su Ren’s favorites. After finishing these three major dishes, Xie Chouqiu finally sensed something was off—why was he only making things Su Ren liked?
It was also far too much food.
So, he tucked two of the dishes into the fridge for tomorrow and tossed a simple bean sprout salad for himself.
Su Ren felt physically uncomfortable and agitated, so he holed himself up in his room, attempting to kill time with a video game.
However, he hadn’t played that account in so long that he’d forgotten the password. After resetting it via a mobile verification code, he discovered the “new” password he wanted to set was identical to the original one, perhaps he had simply typed it wrong earlier.
A bit speechless, Su Ren slowly logged on. He took his level 80 account to fight level 120 monsters, but after playing for a while, he found it meaningless. Ultimately, he abandoned the game, crawled onto the bed, and expressionlessly wrapped himself into a human burrito with the duvet.
Weakly, Su Ren closed his eyes. Not long after, Xie Chouqiu called him for dinner.
Perhaps because Su Ren’s consciousness wasn’t entirely clear, he found himself in a daze, suddenly remembering how his parents used to call him for dinner years ago when they were still around. If he was even a little late, his mother would scold him.
Would Xie Chouqiu scold him?
Su Ren’s thoughts drifted aimlessly.
Despite his elegant and pretty face remaining cold, his head was spinning. Acting somewhat willfully, he buried his head under the covers, wrapping the soft duvet tightly around himself. He took a deep breath, inhaling the fresh scent of laundry detergent.
However, it wasn’t long before he heard the bedroom door push open.
Xie Chouqiu stood there with a stern, handsome face, leaning against the doorframe exactly like his father used to, “Su Ren, time to eat.”
Likely due to his heat, Su Ren was sleeping quite fitfully.
Still buried under the covers, Su Ren mumbled an incoherent reply:
“Okay, Dad, coming now.”
Xie Chouqiu: ?
A second or two later, Su Ren seemed to realize he had misspoken. His refined and beautiful face emerged from the duvet, brows knitted tight and cheeks slightly flushed as he looked at Xie Chouqiu by the door, “You heard nothing,” Su Ren said icily.
He then heard Xie Chouqiu give a teasing, low laugh, sounding quite a bit like his father indeed:
“Understood, dear son. If you don’t come down soon, Daddy will have to carry you down.”
Su Ren: …
By the time Su Ren sat at the dining table with shaky legs and a frosty expression, his pale complexion had turned a deep shade of crimson.
Furthermore, even though it was just a meal, he found he could barely hold his chopsticks steady.
Xie Chouqiu’s scent was too overpowering, a sharp, sour tang of lemon.
Su Ren glanced up slightly at Xie Chouqiu.
When they were younger, it seemed they truly did share a thick, tangled history of emotions, it was just that…
If one called it love, it didn’t quite reach that level.
If one called it hate, it wasn’t quite that severe either.
It was just that as time passed, the emotions faded, like a bottle of soda left out for too long, losing its color and turning as bland and tasteless as plain water.
Su Ren thought of his mission—to spend his heat with the one he loved. His gaze grew colder as he looked down. Such a mission seemed impossible to complete.
Just then, he heard Song Di’s noisy, lolita-like voice, which had been depressed all night, break into a wailing sob:
“Waaaaah! You cold-hearted Beta, are you trying to kill me? Waaaaah.”
Su Ren: …?
Su Ren knitted his elegant brows coldly and thinned his lips, his tone sounding like an impatient playboy, “What is it now?”
Song Di: “You used a system bug to make my life miserable! I just blocked all your external communications specifically to stop you from cheating on the seventh mission, so how on earth did you manage to get your sister back?!”
Su Ren frowned in total confusion, “Who? Su Shi?”
Song Di snapped hysterically, “Why are you acting innocent!?”
The doorbell rang.
Xie Chouqiu’s lips curled into a slow smile. His deep, misty-blue eyes stared unblinkingly at Su Ren, a hint of undetectable tenderness hidden within.
