- Chapter 71.2 - The Privileges of a Gold Medal Quick Transmigrator
Six months later, Zhou Tiantian found her destined love. Lou Jing lived on only in her memories, occasionally brought up in passing as a nostalgic thought.
After reading through everything, Tang Jing let out a melancholic chuckle for reasons she couldn’t quite explain.
Perhaps it was because her last experience in this world had left her with too many psychological scars.
“Ah!” A scream pierced through the air from somewhere, jolting the sleeping students awake.
“Damn it, who’s screaming in the middle of the night?”
“Can’t you pick a better time to watch horror movies? If you’re not sleeping, don’t others need to?”
Complaints rose one after another from the dorm rooms lining both sides of the hallway.
Tang Jing was the first to sit up in bed, while the other roommates also woke up, rubbing their bleary eyes and murmuring drowsily, “What’s going on? I thought I heard someone screaming?”
A few minutes later, everyone thought they could close their eyes and go back to sleep.
But then the screams erupted again this time, not just once, but several times, coming from different people.
“Damn, are they having a horror movie marathon or something?” Someone couldn’t take it anymore and flung open their dorm door to curse.
Yet as soon as the words left her mouth, a sound resembling a wild beast echoed from the end of the hallway. The students listening from their dorms felt their hairs stand on end.
“Wh-what’s happening?” a roommate stammered.
“Something’s wrong.” Tang Jing quickly dressed and climbed down from her bed.
Another roommate was scrolling through the school forum on her phone, and when she saw the posts, her face paled. “Look at the forum,” she said, her voice trembling, sending an inexplicable wave of panic through the room.
Outside, the screams continued, rising from different dorms, accompanied by that terrifying, beastly sound.
“Zombies?!” a roommate gasped in disbelief. “How is that possible? Isn’t that just something made up in movies? How could they exist in real life?”
Just then, Tang Jing’s phone, lying beside her pillow, rang. At the same time, she heard footsteps outside the door. She answered the call immediately while motioning for her roommates to stay silent.
Zhou Tiantian’s tearful voice came through the phone. “Ah Jing, I’m so scared. Can you come find me?”
Tang Jing didn’t respond right away because the footsteps outside the door kept pacing back and forth, something no normal person would do.
The other roommates also sensed something was wrong, clamping their hands over their mouths, too terrified to make a sound. Fear brought tears to their eyes.
Everyone froze in place. Then, somewhere outside, a dorm door opened. The thing in the hallway was drawn to the noise and rushed toward it, followed by another scream.
“AHH!!”
The scream seemed to tear open the silence, and soon, terrified cries erupted from other dorms.
“What do we do? Are we going to die here?”
Tang Jing pressed the phone to her ear and finally replied to Zhou Tiantian, who had been waiting anxiously. “Hold on. I’m coming to get you.”
“Jing, where are you going?”
Hearing that Tang Jing was leaving, the roommates’ hearts leapt into their throats. After all, Tang Jing practiced taekwondo in their dorm, at this critical moment, she was their greatest source of security.
“Jing, you can’t go.” Another roommate scrambled down from her bed and grabbed Tang Jing’s arm tightly, as if afraid she might vanish the next second.
“You!” Tang Jing winced in pain but swallowed her words when she saw the raw fear on the other girl’s face. “Tiantian’s waiting for me. I have to go to her.”
“But what about us?”
Deep down, the roommates knew Tang Jing wasn’t obligated to stay and protect them. But in this moment, fear took over they just wanted to keep her there. With her, they felt safe.
Tang Jing pondered for a moment before saying, “I must go to Tian Tian. If any of you dare to leave, come with me.”
“But outside right now.” As she spoke, another person outside was grabbed by the creature emitting beast-like growls. The roommate who had spoken took a frightened step back, nearly collapsing to the ground from weak legs.
Tang Jing said firmly, “We can’t stay here forever.”
“Lou Jing, let’s call the police. We’ll wait here for them to arrive,” another roommate chimed in, climbing down from her bed and grabbing Tang Jing’s arm.
Tang Jing pulled her arm free and stated decisively, “If you want to come with me, change your clothes now. I’m leaving in five minutes.”
If she didn’t leave soon, the system’s punishment mechanism would kick in.
Zhou Tiantian was the chosen one of this world. Even without Tang Jing’s intervention, she would be safe even her rival Xu Yushu would repeatedly come to her rescue. That alone proved Zhou Tiantian’s safety.
But according to the original plot progression, Tang Jing had to go now. Based on the system’s usual task rules, until the main storyline reached 50%, all her actions had to align with the original host’s behavior.
“I…” The roommate hesitated. Compared to venturing outside with Tang Jing, staying in the dorm seemed far safer.
“I’m not going,” the roommate who had been sitting on her bed declared firmly.
The other two roommates hesitated briefly before nodding in agreement. “We’re not going either.”
Tang Jing didn’t press further. As she picked up the broom by the door to leave, she told them, “Find something to defend yourselves with. Don’t open the door for anyone.”
“Okay.”
“Xiao Jing, be careful yourself.”
Tang Jing gave them a complicated look before pulling open the door and stepping out, quickly closing it behind her.
The hallway was chaos bodies strewn haphazardly across the floor, blood pooling everywhere. Some of the lifeless corpses were slowly rising, moving unnaturally, their throats emitting animalistic snarls.
Having experienced this once before, Tang Jing knew that in the early stages of the outbreak, the zombies weren’t particularly fast or strong. As long as you had the courage, escaping safely was entirely possible.
But not everyone had that kind of nerve. After all, this wasn’t a movie. Facing something so far beyond the ordinary, fear was a natural reaction.
Tang Jing removed the broom head, keeping only the wooden handle, and began sprinting upstairs. Along the way, she dodged several lunging zombies, kicking away those she couldn’t avoid.
Having traversed multiple worlds before, she was no longer the same person. She had lived through martial arts and interstellar worlds, naturally acquiring many combat skills. Even in a xianxia world without inner energy, she had learned some simple killing techniques.
Armed with just a broomstick, Tang Jing fought her way through two floors, reaching the sixth.
The situation on the sixth floor was much better than on the fourth. Only a few bodies lay in the hallway, with no signs of active zombies yet.
She approached Zhou Tiantian’s dorm door and called softly, “Tian Tian, open up.”
Inside, Zhou Tiantian was still sulking over her roommates driving away their senior. When she heard knocking, she initially thought more zombies had come. But upon recognizing Lou Jing’s voice, she rushed over excitedly and pulled the door open. “A-Jing!”
“Let’s talk inside.”
“Don’t.”
Just as Tang Jing was about to enter, Zhou Tiantian’s roommates quickly stopped her, their eyes scanning her warily. When they noticed the bloodstains on her clothes, they recoiled in fear, asking, “Are you hurt?”
“It’s not my blood,” Tang Jing replied.
“A-Jing, come in,” Zhou Tiantian said, sounding somewhat dejected.
Her roommate frowned and said, “Zhou Tiantian, this isn’t just your dorm. What if she’s been scratched or bitten by a zombie? Some posts online say people who’ve been scratched or bitten by zombies will turn into them too.”
Noticing their unease, Tang Jing turned to Zhou Tiantian. “What’s going on with you guys?”
Zhou Tiantian was about to explain when the floodlights on the sports field suddenly flickered to life.
The surviving students in the dorm rushed to the windows, their faces lighting up with relief at the sight of numerous security personnel on the field. “We’re saved!”
“The rescue team is here!”
The guards began entering each dormitory building, including theirs.
When the rescue team knocked on their door, Zhou Tiantian’s roommates burst into tears of joy. Tang Jing and Zhou Tiantian followed the rescuers downstairs.
On the way, Zhou Tiantian hesitated before speaking. “A-Jing, before you arrived, I left the dorm. Senior Xu Yushu saved me, twice. But the second time, she got hurt. She was scratched by a zombie.” At this, Zhou Tiantian started crying.
“Xu Yushu?” Hearing the familiar name, Tang Jing’s expression hardened. “Where is she now?”
