- Chapter 71.1 - The Privileges of a Gold Medal Quick Transmigrator
Tang Jing didn’t rest for long at the transit station before continuing on to the next world.
The surroundings were eerily quiet. She slowly opened her eyes to pitch darkness, and it took a few seconds for her vision to adjust, revealing blurry outlines. Glancing around, she realized she was in a student dormitory bunk beds above, desks and wardrobes below.
At the moment, the dorm was silent, with all her roommates fast asleep.
Tang Jing lay still on the bed, not moving. Instead, she opened the system interface to browse the background and plot of this world.
It was an unusually tranquil night. The school, so lively during the day, had fallen into deep silence.
Inside the dorms, students had already drifted into dreams. But then, a piercing scream tore through the night sky, jolting many awake. Some grumbled sleepily, cursing whoever had the audacity to shout in the middle of the night, while others simply pulled their blankets tighter over their heads and went back to sleep.
But the screams didn’t stop. Instead, they multiplied, one after another, mingled with the guttural roars of beasts. Even the sleepiest students were now wide awake.
The once-silent campus erupted into chaos.
On the forums, someone posted footage of a student biting another, a gruesome scene that looked nothing like an act. It was as if they had been infected with a virus, turning into mindless zombies straight out of a horror movie.
Lou Jing and her girlfriend didn’t live on the same floor. Knowing her girlfriend’s timid and fragile nature, Lou Jing worried she must be terrified, probably already in tears. Unable to rest easy, Lou Jing grabbed a broom and left the dorm alone.
On her way to her girlfriend’s floor, she narrowly escaped death multiple times at the hands or rather, jaws of the zombies.
When she finally reached her girlfriend Zhou Tiantian’s dorm, she learned from her that Senior Xu Yushu had saved her life twice and during the second rescue, Xu Yushu had been scratched by a zombie.
The truth was, Xu Yushu had always harbored feelings for Lou Jing, her junior. But since Lou Jing already had a girlfriend, she kept her affection buried deep inside. When the zombies appeared, her first instinct was to rush to Lou Jing’s floor to save her. However, shortly after leaving her dorm, she spotted Lou Jing’s girlfriend instead.
Zhou Tiantian had been cornered by a zombie, crying helplessly in fear. Without hesitation, Xu Yushu charged forward, beating the zombie to death with a stick before pulling Zhou Tiantian to safety.
Even though Zhou Tiantian was her romantic rival, she couldn’t bear to watch her die right in front of her. Of course, her immediate decision to save Zhou Tiantian was also driven by the thought of how devastated Lou Jing would be if anything happened to her.
But some accidents were impossible to predict. Just then, Zhou Tiantian’s roommate ran out. Overwhelmed with relief, Zhou Tiantian tearfully rushed toward her, only to attract the attention of zombies lurking in the dark. As the zombies lunged, Zhou Tiantian froze, her mind blank with terror.
Xu Yushu, who had been keeping an eye on her, dashed over. Though she managed to save Zhou Tiantian once again, her own arm was scratched during the struggle.
Zhou Tiantian tried to pull her into the dorm, but her roommates eyed Xu Yushu warily. The forums had already warned that anyone bitten or scratched by a zombie would eventually turn into one of them whether it took hours or mere minutes.
Not wanting to put Zhou Tiantian in a difficult position, Xu Yushu left alone.
When Lou Jing found her girlfriend, she was immensely relieved to see her unharmed. At the same time, the rescue team arrived. With so many students needing help, the rescue operation would take time, and the longer they waited, the more dangerous it became. Lou Jing decided to lead her girlfriend and her roommates toward the rescue team.
On the way, Zhou Tiantian told her that before she arrived, Senior Xu Yushu had saved her twice. The second time, Xu Yushu had been scratched by a zombie. Zhou Tiantian anxiously asked whether the senior would turn into one of those flesh-eating monsters.
Hearing Xu Yushu’s name, Lou Jing froze. Before she had gotten together with Zhou Tiantian, the senior had often sought her out whether to share meals, study together in the library, or jog on the field.
But ever since she started dating Zhou Tiantian, the senior had stopped coming around. Lou Jing had assumed she was just busy with work.
Reflecting on this, Lou Jing decided to go find the senior. Zhou Tiantian wanted to come along, but her roommates refused.
Upon learning that it was because of these roommates that Xu Yushu had left in the first place, Lou Jing ignored them and took Zhou Tiantan to the senior’s dorm.
Sure enough, the person she was looking for was there gagged with a cloth, a knife in hand, ready to end herself the moment she felt any sign of turning into one of those terrifying zombies.
Seeing Lou Jing appear moved her, and she instinctively followed them.
Due to various circumstances, they strayed from the rescue team. With the zombie outbreak spreading in the city, they had no choice but to drive out of town.
However, not long after leaving, Xu Yushu noticed zombie-like marks slowly appearing on her skin. Unwilling to let Lou Jing see her grotesque transformation, she slipped away one night. By the time everyone woke up the next morning, she was gone.
With no way to find her in the vast sea of people, they could only head to the B City base first, planning to search for her once they settled in.
Yet, not long after returning to the base, news came of the emergence of a high-level zombie king. When Lou Jing and her mercenary team went out to eliminate it, they discovered that the zombie king was none other than Xu Yushu, who had left on her own.
The zombie king retained some semblance of consciousness, which was why she never attacked Lou Jing even avoiding her. Somewhere in her mind, an unshakable command dictated that she must never harm Lou Jing.
Lou Jing recognized her and wanted to drive away the senior who had once saved her girlfriend. But the other mercenaries gave her no chance, unleashing their full firepower on Xu Yushu.
Instead of dodging, the senior stood motionless, enduring the barrage of gunfire. Her gaze remained fixed on Lou Jing until the very end, a faint smile on her lips as a bullet pierced the back of her skull, sending her crashing to the ground.
Less than half a month later, while escorting Zhou Tiantian on a mission, Lou Jing was caught in a zombie horde. She died saving Zhou Tiantian, who had recklessly run off.
