Ten-Year Loyal Dog’s Road to Chasing Her Wife (GL) - Chapter 27
Chapter 27
Xia Hanyin ran all the way back to the dormitory before stopping to catch her breath. Her two close friends were already in the room, resting after having taken off their military uniforms. Seeing her run back in such a frantic rush, as if something were chasing her, they were quite surprised: “What’s wrong? Is there a dog chasing you? Aren’t you afraid your pants will fall down, running that fast?”
Saying this, the two “plastic-type” sisters burst into raucous laughter, looking like two ducks doubling over.
“No… it wasn’t a dog.” Whether it was the weather or something else, Xia Hanyin’s face was flushed. Leaning against the doorframe and panting, she said: “It was Yuan Tianci, the School Grass.”
The expressions on the two plastic sisters’ faces went blank for a second or two. “Yuan Tianci is chasing you?” Then they laughed again, “That’s a good thing! Don’t you have a crush on him? Just hurry up and agree; satisfy all your fantasies about a prince.”
“…” Xia Hanyin’s face turned even redder. “I told you I don’t! Yuan Tianci is so excellent; what reason would he have to like me? It was just that one time we were both late and crashed through the school gates together. There is such a huge gap between him and me I’m not blind, okay?”
“It’s fine.” Qi Jun waved her hand dismissively. “Since he’s started chasing you, it means that little gap doesn’t mean anything in Yuan Tianci’s eyes. Besides, it’s not really that big of a gap to begin with.”
An Xiaolei hesitated for a moment and silently poured a bucket of cold water on the idea: “By ‘not a big gap,’ do you mean he has tens of millions in savings while you only have tens of thousands?”
Xia Hanyin: “…”
That’s a jab to the heart, bro.
However, An Xiaolei had no intention of letting her off. “And incidentally, he is the School Grass with height and long legs, while your weight is roughly equal to his height? Or, he is a top student while you just happen to be a slacker? Qi Jun, I think it’s best if we don’t hold out such high hopes.”
The two of them were truly worlds apart.
“Um, Xiaolei is right.” Xia Hanyin nodded and said, “While I can’t change my family background, I can change the remaining body shape and grades. I will definitely make him say those words of love voluntarily.”
Xiaolei sneered and spoke no more.
Instead, Qi Jun asked curiously: “Since Yuan Tianci isn’t chasing you, then why were you running? And so fast, too I almost thought a dinosaur had been let loose outside.”
“…I felt embarrassed,” Xia Hanyin said with a red face. Seeing the curious gazes of her companions, she briefly explained the ins and outs of the situation. “When I was buying a belt, I saw Yuan Tianci and his friends.”
“What’s so embarrassing about that?”
“They must already know that I’m just like them using a shoelace as a belt.”
Xia Hanyin’s face grew even redder. “What if Tianci remembers me for this? I bet I’m the only girl in this class who forgot to bring a belt. I’m really afraid the instructor will tell us to squat down…”
Xia Hanyin’s waist was very thick; even a shoelace could only barely wrap around it. Once she did any vigorous exercise, there was a risk of it coming undone and then her pants would fall down in public.
“As long as they don’t fall down in public, you’re being resourceful,” An Xiaolei said expressionlessly. “If you’re really uncomfortable with Yuan Tianci remembering your embarrassing moment, find a time to explain it to him and say the belt was bought for me.” Since she was a delinquent who didn’t listen to teachers anyway, instructing a roommate to help buy a belt was perfectly reasonable. “Alright, I’m going down to find the dormitory manager to see if I can get a school worker to help fix the electric fan. In this weather, I’m afraid we’ll die of heat without a fan.”
The dormitories at the military training base naturally didn’t have such things as air conditioning. The only tool for keeping cool was the large ceiling fan in the room. In this weather, returning every day soaked in sweat, even with the fan turned to the maximum, one would still sweat profusely, but it was better than nothing. Having a fan was always a bit better than not having one.
At least they wouldn’t die from the heat.
Ao Manshan walked out of the bathroom drying her hair and said calmly: “I already looked for them before you got up. They said the earliest anyone can come to fix it is this afternoon.”
“What about during the noon nap? We’ll be woken up by the heat,” An Xiaolei said, throwing up her hands.
“Physical cooling.” Ao Manshan sneered, though her face didn’t look like she was joking at all. “You can choose to wash your hair; it will be much cooler, I guarantee.”
“Then I won’t have to sleep at all.” Xiaolei continued her expressionless face. “The noon rest period is only this short, and even that can’t be guaranteed.”
“I think you can go wash your hair. There are activities in the evening, so there’s no guarantee of enough time to let your hair dry naturally. If you want to wash your hair, I suggest doing it at noon.” Qi Jun glanced at the military training guide on her phone. There wasn’t even a single usable power outlet in the dormitory, so a phone with no power here was basically a brick. “Anyway, no one checks the rooms at noon, so it doesn’t matter if you don’t sleep. You can sit and air-dry.”
“Like a piece of cleaned pork sprinkled with salt?” Xiaolei raised an eyebrow.
Qi Jun looked at her with a nearly identical expression and said: “That’s exactly what I mean.”
An Xiaolei turned her gaze toward Room 202, which also had its door open: “I think we can go to the ‘allied’ dormitory to borrow some of their fan’s breeze.”
When she moved her gaze over, Qiao Mei was just walking in from the balcony carrying a plate of sliced pears, an elegant folding fruit knife in her right hand. She casually shook off the water droplets, which were accurately captured by everyone in Room 201.
Xia Hanyin swallowed with difficulty. Heaven knows where this top student had conjured fruit from, but there was no fruit for sale in the military base. Just looking at the snow-white flesh, Xia Hanyin felt her mouth begin to water. “I think it’s doable.”
“…Allies?” What the hell kind of allies? Qi Jun simply couldn’t grasp the logic of her group of friends. They had just bickered with them yesterday.
But by the time she reacted, An Xiaolei had already finished communicating with Room 202. They were allowed to come over, spread a mat on the floor, and share the fan. Qiao Mei even proactively sliced an extra pear for them to eat; the original one had all been given to Qiao Wan.
That afternoon, the residents of 201 spent their time lying on the floor of 202. Xia Hanyin was a chubby girl, so even with a fan, it wasn’t very comfortable. While lying on the mat thinking about Yuan Tianci, she faintly smelled an unfamiliar fragrance. Opening her eyes to find out where it was coming from, she saw that Qiao Wan had climbed onto Qiao Mei’s bed and was applying a strange, semi-transparent gel to Qiao Mei’s face.
And Qiao Mei was exceptionally obedient.
Seeing Xia Hanyin looking up, Qiao Wan tilted her head and asked: “Do you want to apply some too?”
“What is it?” Xia Hanyin asked curiously.
“Sunscreen,” Qiao Wan said. “The sun is quite fierce in the afternoon; you might get sunburned. It’s better to apply some.” Though it was somewhat useless, as there would be no chance to reapply sunscreen once military training began.
Qiao Wan climbed down from the bed, rummaged through her bag, and pulled out a brand-new bottle for her: “Here, it’s yours.”
She was applying the same bottle she used herself to Qiao Mei, but the one she gave Xia Hanyin was a brand-new, unopened one. It was hard to say if it was out of distance or because she felt Xia Hanyin was a carrier of germs, but anyway, Xia Hanyin felt offended and said with some displeasure: “Couldn’t you just let me try some? You let Qiao Mei try it, didn’t you? At least I don’t have such a terrifying face.”
Qiao Wan paused for a moment and said: “I didn’t think that much of it. It’s just that Qiao Mei is my deskmate; I’m quite familiar with her, so I don’t mind many things. I didn’t mean to treat you differently. This bottle is a sample given by the shop when I bought it; it’s no different from mine, just smaller. You can try it.”
After a pause, Qiao Wan added: “Also, acne isn’t contagious. My deskmate isn’t a pathogen don’t say such cruel things. Besides, this is a side effect of medication. I know you’ve mocked her before, but I hope there won’t be a next time. After all, what if one day she becomes more beautiful than you, right?”
Xia Hanyin: “…How is that possible?”
Qiao Wan shrugged. “I’m casting my vote for my deskmate.”
Xia Hanyin looked up at Qiao Mei, who was lying on the upper bunk listening to their conversation. Her hair was still dripping wet, draped over her shoulders and flowing freely along the soft lines of her back and arms. She wasn’t angry; her light-colored eyes held a faint smile, and the slight curve of her lips made her look like a young lady of the gentry leaning lazily on a railing, teasing fish with osmanthus flowers.
And she, Xia Hanyin, was that single fish.
Qiao Mei was watching as if it were a play.
Xia Hanyin lowered her head. Qiao Wan was right Qiao Mei’s temperament was extremely good, and her facial structure was also excellent; she was just missing a clean face.
Besides, this person had good grades and a good personality; she had no right to mock her at all.
“I’m sorry.”
Qiao Mei looked at her with surprise, only to hear Xia Hanyin say quickly: “I won’t say things like that again. I’m sorry for hurting you like that before.” After saying this, she lowered her head, lay back down on the mat, and quickly pulled her small blanket over her head.
It seemed she was feeling embarrassed.
But she could still hear that person saying to her: “You actually can’t hurt me. However, I accept your apology; I forgive you.”
Xia Hanyin acted as if she hadn’t heard and kept her head covered.
Until she heard Qiao Wan also let out a soft laugh from the upper bunk, saying: “Be careful not to smother yourself or get heatstroke.”
That soft laugh was extremely charming and feminine, completely different from Qiao Mei’s calm and serious vibe.
Xia Hanyin couldn’t help but sigh in her heart. These two “flowers” of the Qiao family truly each had their own characteristics. No wonder it was hard for boys to dislike the Qiao sisters, even when the rumors outside were so nasty.
If she were a boy, just for the sake of these two’s voices, it would be a real pity that the system of multiple wives and concubines no longer exists.
She peeked her head out quietly and saw the two Qiao sisters both leaning on the railing of the upper bunk, smiling at her with curved eyes one on the left, one on the right. They looked like a perfect pair.
Even though the difference between the two of them was as vast as the distance between her and Yuan Tianci.
