Ten-Year Loyal Dog’s Road to Chasing Her Wife (GL) - Chapter 26
Chapter 26
The entire military training, including the day of arrival and the day of departure, lasted a total of nine days. However, since essentially nothing can be done on those two days, most people prefer to call it seven days one week.
Within this week, the students needed to produce some results to deal with the march-past performance on the final day. The march-past included the synchronized walk and the goose-step; when passing in front of the rostrum, they also had to salute and shout slogans. If all that were nothing, then “uniformity” was what truly demanded the students’ lives.
It sounded simple, but once they actually started walking, wanting to be the same as the companions beside them lifting their legs to the same height and swinging their arms to the same extent it became quite difficult. After training for an entire morning, Class 11 no, the 11th Platoon had failed to meet these requirements.
In Wan Dou’s words: “The way you guys walk is no different from taking a stroll.”
The students felt aggrieved; the sun was so big that it didn’t take long to feel dizzy and lightheaded. Moreover, they hadn’t even been together for a month; they didn’t even know the names of the people next to them, let alone walking in perfect unison. How were they supposed to walk when they couldn’t even shout “one, two, one” in sync?
The September sun was still quite fierce. It was said that several people had already fainted that morning. Watching this group of tender-skinned students being baked in the sun for so long made Wan Dou feel distressed as well, so he found a way to lead the squad under the green trees to serve them water and let them rest.
However, there really weren’t many green trees on the playground. The only spot that looked shady had already been occupied by a group of “leafy greens.” The leading instructor was as thin as a stick, holding a megaphone and saying something to the students sitting in the shade.
Wan Dou squinted his eyes and watched for a good while before finally surrendering: “Is there anyone with good eyesight? Help me see who that instructor under the shade is.”
“How are we supposed to know so many instructors…” One student, though complaining, still looked toward that direction with effort. As it turned out, they actually did know him: “Reporting to the Instructor, it’s Instructor Lotus of the 12th Platoon.”
Upon hearing it was Lotus, Wan Dou wasn’t intimidated at all: “Fall in! I’m taking you guys to play with Instructor Lotus.”
No sooner said than done. Once the squad was led under the shade, Instructor Lotus had an expression like he’d seen a ghost: “Wan Dou, what are you doing? Don’t snatch my 12th Platoon’s spot, I’m telling you.”
Wan Dou put his arm around Lotus’s shoulder. “Good brothers should share blessings and hardships together, right? Look at you acting so distant; I’ll lose face in front of the students, right? Come, come, squeeze in. Everyone sings a song or performs some programs to rest a bit. You’ve been sitting here so long it’s not an imperial throne, it’s time to change people, right?”
Thus, the two classes sat down, and those two instructors, who seemed to have some “bromance” going on, also sat together right in front of them.
As soon as Wan Dou sat down, he fished a small slip of paper out of his pocket: “Coming to military training and not learning a couple of military songs? Come on, Lotus teaching one platoon is teaching, teaching two is also teaching. Sing!”
“You steal my spot and then want me to sing?” Lotus’s face was full of disdain. “If anyone’s teaching, it’s you.”
“Fine, I’ll teach.”
Lotus rubbed his nose. Just as Lotus was wondering why this “old oil strip” (slick veteran) was so easy to talk to today, Wan Dou asked the students of Class 12: “Do you want to hear your Instructor Lotus sing?” The people of Class 12 naturally answered in unison that they did, so Wan Dou looked at Lotus out of the corner of his eye and said: “Look, it’s the will of the people; what’s yours you can’t escape.”
Thus, the same question was thrown by Lotus to the people of Class 11, receiving a nearly identical answer. Neither instructor could convince the other, and finally they decided: you teach one, I’ll teach one. Only then was the problem perfectly solved. During the halftime break, Qiao Wan asked Qiao Mei, Why are these two instructors so childish?
Qiao Mei said: “Change the person, and then see if our instructor is still childish. I think being able to see a person’s childish side means either that person is truly childish, or he is very at ease with you at ease to the point where he feels there’s absolutely no need to be on guard against you.”
Qiao Wan nodded half-understandingly and said, “Oh.”
Perhaps her expression was simply too blank; Qiao Mei couldn’t help but grab the brim of Qiao Wan’s hat and press it down gently. “Silly roe deer.”
“Silly dog.” Qiao Wan glared at her, unwilling to be outdone. She took off the hat that had been messed up, straightened it out, and buckled it back on.
Qiao Wan’s hair was very long and curly. If she let it hang down and baked in this kind of weather for several hours, she would have likely suffered heatstroke long ago. Therefore, she tied her long hair high up and coiled it into a bun at the back of her head while her hair looked a lot when loose, it wasn’t actually that much when coiled revealing her snow-white, slender neck.
She looked like a proud swan. Her whole body radiated a noble and haughty aura.
Yuan Tianci watched her from behind for a long time. When the sunlight hit that patch of snow-white skin, it seemed as if a lustrous white light was flowing beneath the skin, making it appear white to the point of being almost transparent. The whole person looked as if she might disappear into the sunlight at any moment.
Yuan Tianci just stared blankly like this for the entire morning.
Those bored people at school were truly right; Qiao Wan really was a very good-looking girl.
Originally, Qiao Wan stood in the second row, but because she was short, she was moved to the first row. Xia Hanyin, who was about the same height, also went to the first row. Xiaolei and another girl were moved down. So now, the 1st Squad leader became Xia Hanyin and the 2nd Squad leader became An Xiaolei.
Yuan Tianci still relied on his height advantage to look over Qiao Mei and fix his gaze directly onto Qiao Wan.
It wasn’t that he was unwilling to look at others, but compared to Qiao Wan, everyone else around her paled in comparison, especially the short and stout Xia Hanyin, who was simply an eyesore. Yuan Tianci originally wanted to struggle a bit, but he really couldn’t hold out. In the end, he firmly fixed his gaze on the back of Qiao Wan’s head.
The School Beauty is indeed beautiful.
What surprised him most was the other one of the “Twin Qiaos,” Qiao Mei. He hadn’t expected that even without seeing her face, Qiao Mei’s silhouette from behind could fascinate a bunch of people.
When they were dismissed at noon to go back and rest, Yuan Tianci heard the boys around him saying sporadically, “The two sisters of the Qiao family are really something; their figures from behind look better one after the other. Did you see Qiao Mei’s waist?”
The military training belt was for decoration, but the instructors required their belts to be pulled tight, the kind where you couldn’t even slip your hands in. Under such circumstances, whose waist was thick and whose was thin was something that could be seen with a single glance.
“Damn, it’s so thin. I suspect I could wrap one arm around three of them!”
“Her silhouette from behind is indeed good-looking, but if you look at her from the front, do you dare to go for it?” someone sneered.
“I’m not crazy! Why would I stop looking at a perfectly good silhouette just to torture myself? Just go from the back, or simply don’t turn on the lights.”
The boys understood perfectly and laughed even louder: “Yes, yes, yes, only you guys are clever, lusting after both sisters of the Qiao family. Look at yourselves you still desire the School Beauty and the Top Female Student? Go wash up and sleep! Only someone like our Brother Tianci can choose whoever he wants! Understand? Looks!”
Saying so, they burst into raucous laughter.
Yuan Tianci frowned. “Are you guys very bored?”
“Not bored at all; we’re talking about the two sisters of the Qiao family. It’s quite fun.”
The boys raised their eyebrows. “If you only look at her from behind, what score do you think you’d give Qiao Mei?”
Before Yuan Tianci could speak, a boy answered for him: “80.” “I think it could be three points more.” “Five more points…”
“Acting like you’ve never seen a woman. I’d say 95.” “?? That score is so high; you’ve probably lost your mind.” “Never seen a woman, have you?”
By this time, most had finished eating and were on their way back to the dorms in groups of two and three. The boys’ dorms were far away, but the girls’ dorms were very close to the cafeteria. Yuan Tianci saw the “Twin Qiaos” mixed together again if he hadn’t known long ago that Qiao Mei and Qiao Wan didn’t have the same parents, Yuan Tianci might have thought these two were sisters.
In fact, the Qiao parents had called Yuan Tianci’s parents a while ago. Only then did Yuan Tianci find out that his parents were friends with Qiao Wan’s parents; the two families had even semi-seriously set an “arranged baby marriage,” saying it was an alliance between wealthy families to be fulfilled once the children grew up.
At first, Yuan Tianci wasn’t that willing, but after a morning of observation, he discovered that Qiao Wan was truly beautiful. Even when he started with a resistant attitude to scrutinize her, he could only reach that conclusion.
Qiao Wan was truly good-looking.
No wonder she attracted everyone’s attention; after all, such a beautiful girl was herself a source of light.
Now he felt that being born into a wealthy family was truly good. To think that Qiao Wan, whom the whole school was staring at, was actually his fiancée. Thinking of this, Yuan Tianci couldn’t help but glance in the direction of the “Twin Qiaos” again, only to find the two girls had already turned to leave. In the crowd, Qiao Mei, who had a slight height advantage, was closely guarding the petite Qiao Wan, looking exactly like a hen protecting her chick.
Is this right?
Yuan Tianci didn’t know; he felt as though they had already deviated from the original track, but where they had deviated to, no one knew.
There was no girl who didn’t walk with her arms around another’s shoulders, but for some reason, Yuan Tianci couldn’t help but feel that the way Qiao Mei and Qiao Wan held each other was different from everyone else.
It looked as if… it carried a kind of possessive desire.
But soon he felt his own thoughts were very absurd. He shook his head and asked the friends beside him who were still making off-color jokes: “Now that we’ve finished eating, are you planning to go straight back to the dorm or somewhere else?”
“Now that you mention it, I remember.” The friends shuddered. “Go to the canteen to buy a belt! Shit, I forgot to bring a belt; I’ve been relying on that shoelace to hold it up all day, it’s been so frustrating. I’m just afraid he’ll suddenly ask us to do some large-scale movements—the pants would fall right down, wouldn’t they?”
The canteen wasn’t far from the cafeteria; by the time they finished speaking, they had reached it. As Yuan Tianci walked in, he mocked the people who forgot their belts: “Serves you right for being so forgetful…”
Turning his head, he saw a chubby girl also in the store. She looked a bit familiar; after careful identification, Yuan Tianci finally recognized her: “Xia Hanyin?”
After being stunned for a moment, the girl instinctively hid the items in her hand behind her back. Without even greeting him, she paid and ran off immediately.
“Am I that scary?” Yuan Tianci asked in confusion, looking in the direction where she disappeared.
Behind him, his friends suppressed their laughter. “She’s probably a ‘shoelace party’ member too.”
This time, Yuan Tianci understood.
