Take Away My Sickly Beauty [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 10
It was Ann who drove Chen Jiyu back after the banquet ended that day.
Because she had things weighing on her mind, Chen Jiyu who didn’t usually care for alcohol rarely indulged, but she had a few extra glasses at the banquet. The slightly tipsy woman’s footsteps swayed as she opened the door to her room. At some point, the wine-red hem of her dress had been stained with the chill of the autumn rain, leaving a trail of ripples in her wake.
Winter would be here in another month…
Dragging her exhausted body, Chen Jiyu tidied herself up and curled into bed, her misty eyes staring unblinkingly out the window. Outside was a city as bright as day beneath a dark night where thick clouds hid the moon.
She thought about how autumn was leaving quickly, winter was coming, and the cold would follow closely behind. Although winter brought beautiful snow, she hated it. She hated it because the pain in her lame leg would become unbearable.
In her drunken state, she wasn’t sure why she was thinking about these things; she only knew that in her dreams, she unexpectedly encountered a heavy snowfall.
The first snow of that year was exceptionally large, and the weather was exceptionally cold. Her leg throbbed with agony due to the freezing temperatures, and her temper became incredibly volatile.
Outside the dream, the woman groaned and curled up, her lame leg trembling unconsciously; it was clear this dream was not a pleasant one.
But… she remembered that for one moment that day, she had felt content. The irritability and restlessness in her heart had suddenly vanished. She had done a good deed something that made her very satisfied.
However, the next day, when Chen Jiyu was startled awake, she no longer remembered what she had dreamed about.
Waking with a hangover, she furrowed her brows and pressed her palms against her temples, her hand irritably groping for the phone that wouldn’t stop ringing.
The call was from her Special Assistant. When Chen Jiyu answered, her voice was slightly low and raspy: “What is it?”
“President Chen, First City Hospital called. They said your cousin, Cheng Ye, is looking for you.”
The assistant had received the call earlier that morning, stating that Cheng Ye had acute appendicitis and needed surgery, so a family member was required to come and sign the consent forms.
Hearing the assistant’s words, Chen Jiyu only felt her headache intensify. It was true that acute appendicitis required a family signature, but couldn’t Hua Lingling do that?
Hadn’t they defiantly gone behind her back to get their marriage certificate? This wasn’t an era that refused to recognize the legality of same-sex marriage anymore. Since things had reached this point, there was no need for Chen Jiyu to oppose them, which was why she sometimes didn’t understand why Hua Lingling was still whispering manipulative things into Cheng Ye’s ear.
Cheng Ye was a “useless mud wall” that couldn’t be propped up. Chen Jiyu had already given up on her back when she leaked company secrets to a competitor, nearly pushing the Chen Corporation to the brink of crisis.
Originally, she had secretly prepared a company to give to Cheng Ye as a gift for her future engagement. Now, it seemed there was no point. So, why couldn’t these two idiots just stay away from her?
Furthermore, the so-called “signature” was likely just an excuse for her foolish cousin to see her.
When she went to Baijia Garden, she had already learned that Cheng Ye had stood in the rain all night at the Chen Corporation building, eventually ending up hospitalized with a high fever. Since Cheng Ye and Hua Lingling got together, the only thing that would make Cheng Ye rush to the company in the middle of the night to find her was likely the “pillow talk” from her wife.
She looked down on Hua Lingling’s cunning hypocrisy, and Hua Lingling hated her for trying to prevent her from being with Cheng Ye. They loathed the sight of each other, so naturally, Hua Lingling wouldn’t let her live in peace.
But hadn’t they already gotten their marriage certificate?
Chen Jiyu’s expression turned cold. What? Did they actually expect her to provide the money and people to throw them a grand wedding?
Surprisingly, Chen Jiyu had guessed correctly.
Hua Lingling not only wanted to marry Cheng Ye but wanted to do it openly so that all the important figures would know. Only by getting more than half of the key characters in this “small world” to acknowledge and bless their marriage could she complete her mission.
Among them, Chen Jiyu’s personal recognition of their relationship was the most important. Given Chen Jiyu’s status, most people in their social circle would show respect to whatever she said.
But that narrow-minded “old woman” refused to say a single word of acknowledgement. It was truly disgusting! This was why Hua Lingling hated Chen Jiyu so much and had sworn to make her life miserable.
“Send someone to check if she’s actually sick or faking it,” Chen Jiyu said, picking up the cold water on her nightstand and drinking it in one gulp, trying her best to suppress the anger in her heart.
In truth, no matter how much Hua Lingling acted out, it didn’t matter to her. But that idiot Cheng Ye was being instigated into jumping up and down along with her.
If it hadn’t been for her aunt and uncle constantly pleading with her to take care of Cheng Ye before they were framed and imprisoned years ago, she wouldn’t have kept her by her side.
When her parents passed away, Cheng Ye demanding the position of Vice President was indeed out of a well-meaning desire to share her burden. But she had vastly overestimated her own abilities. During that period, Chen Jiyu had spent a great deal of time cleaning up her many messes.
Later, through some tempering, Cheng Ye had grown quite a bit; at least she stopped making low-level mistakes. Even so, letting her take over a company on her own would have been a stretch.
Chen Jiyu’s original plan was to let her train in the Chen Corporation for a few more years. With her talent, as long as she was willing to work hard, she would have been able to manage a company soon enough. With the backing of the Chen Corporation, she would have avoided many detours.
But Cheng Ye turned out to be a “love-brain.” Not only was she being played like a fiddle by others, but she was also stabbing her own benefactor in the back.
Chen Jiyu could choose not to prosecute her for leaking secrets because of their relationship, but she wasn’t so masochistic as to let Cheng Ye constantly jump in front of her or disturb her peace.
With that time, she might as well spend it with Ye Wuming.
At the very least, Cupid could help the Chen Corporation. Ye Wuming was beautiful and pleasing to the eye. She was also very kind to her, and being around her felt comfortable!
Consumed by anger so early in the morning, Chen Jiyu didn’t realize at all that the name “Ye Wuming” already occupied half of her thoughts.
“Really? She really said that? You’re not lying to me?”
In her apartment far away, Ye Wuming was excitedly tugging at Ann’s sleeve, firing off a triple-shot of questions.
Ann, who had been forced by Ye Wuming to listen to stories about Chen Jiyu all night, sported two large, obvious dark circles under her eyes. Her tone was icy: “Ye Wuming, you idiot! If you disturb my sleep one more time, I will twist your head off and soak it in wine!”
Facing her friend’s blatant murderous intent, Ye Wuming decisively chose to tuck a blanket around her. She stretched out a hand in a gesture of surrender: “Your Majesty, please sleep~”
Ann rolled her eyes and ignored her, falling into a deep, dark sleep instantly.
She left Ye Wuming alone, wearing a smile as bright as spring sunshine.
She never imagined Ann would bring her such good news. She had thought that Jiyu simply not hating her was already the best possible outcome, especially since she didn’t have the endurance to hide her feelings well.
Whenever she was with Jiyu, she always avoided looking at her too directly, fearing her gaze would be too blatant and honest, and thus scare her away.
Ye Wuming could say with absolute certainty that she had practically exhausted a lifetime’s worth of patience just to create a “friendly” atmosphere between them all so that Jiyu wouldn’t feel burdened or uncomfortable being near her.
As it turns out, Jiyu feels something for her too?
Ye Wuming’s eyes sparkled with a clear, shimmering light, and the smile on her lips couldn’t be suppressed.
If that’s the case…
