- Chapter 71 - Only Teasing You
Zhou Xuci’s cooking skills were excellent.
Three dishes and one soup, all of Xu Zhizhi’s favorites.
Xu Zhizhi, who was on her period and had a poor appetite, still managed to eat quite a bit.
After lunch, she sat on the sofa, looking listless.
She watched Zhou Xuci busily clearing the table, tidying up the dishes, and washing the bowls, every movement of his was filled with the warmth of everyday life.
The living room of the small apartment was just over twenty square meters, connected to an open kitchen. Everywhere her gaze fell was clean and tidy, everything in perfect order.
The space wasn’t large, but it was cozy and comfortable.
Or perhaps, wherever Zhou Xuci was, Xu Zhizhi felt at home.
She used to think of herself as a dandelion growing wildly, destined to drift helplessly with the wind, unsure where she would land.
But after meeting Zhou Xuci, the scattered dandelion found the direction of the wind, blowing toward him, taking root and settling down.
After finishing his tasks, Zhou Xuci walked over, leaned down, and touched Xu Zhizhi’s forehead. “I asked for leave for your classes today. Rest a little longer.”
Her complexion didn’t look good.
She had a cold constitution.
Every time her period came, Xu Zhizhi suffered from intense pain.
In the past, she had stubbornly endured it on her own.
But now, she had learned to act spoiled.
Xu Zhizhi stretched out her arms toward Zhou Xuci and said in a coquettish tone, “Carry me back to the room.”
“Okay.” Zhou Xuci bent down, his strong arms wrapping around her waist as he lifted her up.
She had gained a little weight.
She wasn’t as thin as before.
Xu Zhizhi wrapped her arms around Zhou Xuci’s neck, nestling into his embrace and inhaling the fresh scent of cedar on him. “Zhou Xuci, you smell so good.”
When you like someone, your sense of smell becomes more sensitive, keenly immersed in the scent that belongs to them.
Zhou Xuci’s eyes darkened slightly, his tone carrying a hint of helplessness. “Xu Zhizhi, don’t tease me.”
She was like a little kitten, docilely pressing against him, intoxicatedly sniffing the hollow of his neck.
Her warm, soft breath brushed against his neck, sending a tingling, numbing sensation through him.
Even his heart felt a little restless.
Zhou Xuci lowered his head and pressed a punishing kiss to the corner of her lips, his voice slightly husky. “Zhizhi, I’m not very good at resisting teasing.”
Xu Zhizhi looked up, meeting his deep gaze, and instantly, sparks of ambiguity flew between them.
“You’re my boyfriend. If I don’t tease you, who should I tease?” Xu Zhizhi stroked Zhou Xuci’s chin with a playful tone.
But that wasn’t enough.
She lowered her head and mischievously sucked on the hollow of his neck.
Quite forcefully.
Leaving a faint mark.
“Marking you as mine,” Xu Zhizhi said, her eyes sparkling with laughter. “Now you belong to me.”
She added with a hint of possessiveness, “Only to me.”
Her desire to claim him was growing stronger.
Or perhaps, she was falling deeper in love.
Zhou Xuci took a sharp breath, his heart itching with desire, yet he could do nothing about it. He warned her in a low voice, “Zhizhi, I’m just a twenty-year-old guy. I can’t hold back much.”
With such softness in his arms, his self-control wasn’t that strong.
Xu Zhizhi laughed, burying her face in his shoulder and pretending not to understand. “My stomach hurts again.”
Zhou Xuci resignedly said, “Xu Zhizhi, you only know how to bully me.”
“I don’t,” Xu Zhizhi puffed out her cheeks.
Zhou Xuci leaned down and kissed her cheek. “It’s okay. I’m willing to be bullied by you.”
Xu Zhizhi smiled, revealing deep dimples, and enthusiastically kissed his chin.
Mwah, mwah, mwah!
Three kisses in total.
Zhou Xuci carried Xu Zhizhi back to the room, gently laid her down, but she held onto his hand.
“Stay and chat with me.”
He reached out to stroke her soft hair and whispered, “Let me change your heating pad for you.”
Her lips were pale, and her body temperature was still low.
Every time her period came, she suffered terribly.
After changing her heating pad, Zhou Xuci sat on the edge of the bed, keeping her company.
“Am I being too delicate?” Xu Zhizhi looked at Zhou Xuci, her expression conflicted.
She was just afraid of losing him.
Zhou Xuci shook his head and tightened his grip on her hand slightly. “With me, you can always be as delicate as you want.”
“Let me tell you, I’m going to earn lots and lots of money in the future and buy a house of my own,” Xu Zhizhi said, her eyes shining with fervent light. “Then I’ll take care of you, spoil you properly. How does that sound?”
She was utterly sincere.
“I’m very hard to take care of,” Zhou Xuci said, lifting her hand and kissing the back of it. “So, I’ll also earn lots and lots of money, give it all to you, and wait for you to take care of me.”
Xu Zhizhi’s nose tingled with emotion, and she whispered, “Zhou Xuci, I’ve never loved the world so passionately before.”
“In the past, I always complained that the world was too cruel, taking away all my family, leaving me a homeless orphan, making me go through hardship after hardship.”
“I was so unlucky, misfortune always circled around me, trying to drive me to the brink. There was a very dark period when I hated myself, I hated everyone, and I even resented the entire world. Why did it have to be me, suffering such misfortune?”
“But then, in this world, I met you. You’re so wonderful, and I want to become better, to match you.”
“Zhou Xuci, I love you so much.”
It was love.
No longer just liking.
Because of you, I’m willing to forgive all the past disasters. I’m willing to rise from the darkness I crawled in and hold you tightly.
The world has kissed me with pain, and I repay it with fervent love.
Zhou Xuci leaned down, cupped Xu Zhizhi’s face, and kissed her deeply.
They had kissed countless times, but this one felt the most profound.
He kissed her with an intensity, as if he wanted to devour her whole.
After a long while, Zhou Xuci released her, his breathing heavy, the corners of his eyes tinged with red. “Zhizhi, I love you more than you can imagine.”
Xu Zhizhi smiled, her eyes curving like crescent moons as she gazed at Zhou Xuci’s deep-set features. “Brother, I love hearing you say sweet words.”
She rarely called him “brother.”
Only when she was trying to coax him.
Or when she was incredibly moved.
At this moment, she was deeply moved.
“These aren’t just sweet words,” Zhou Xuci said, his fingertips gently tracing her sweet dimples. “They’re the truth, baby.”
Waves of emotion rippled through Xu Zhizhi’s heart as she cupped Zhou Xuci’s face. “Did you listen to the drunken words I said last night?”
“Yes,” Zhou Xuci nodded. “I believe you. Only you.”
“I know that everything happening now might be a dream.”
“Or maybe it’s me in this world dreaming of experiences from another parallel reality.”
“But they feel so real, so vivid,” Xu Zhizhi said, a trace of panic and helplessness in her eyes. “Tell me, if you were in such a predicament, what would you do?”
Zhou Xuci’s eyes held a resolute gleam. “If fate is set, then I shall defy it.”
Cheng Xiaoxin’s life had long been interfered with, and in the end, it should lead to a different outcome.
Her tragedy, in theory, could be avoided.
