Sweet O's Report on Post-Marriage Deterioration - Chapter 1
The Prime Star was damp and cold in the autumn. Ruan Nian couldn’t help coughing a few times as he stepped out of the cabin. He pulled his scarf up higher, but the chill still drilled straight into his bones.
“Hah.”
Taking a light breath and enduring the itch in his throat, Ruan Nian dragged his suitcase and walked briskly to the barge point. After tapping his optical computer to check his information, he hurriedly boarded a flyer.
“Hello, customer. Welcome aboard flyer KS4323. I am today’s pilot, Air. Your destination is: Orchid Star Hotel. Current road conditions are good, and arrival is expected in 30 minutes. Please fasten your seatbelt.”
The automated electronic voice slowly played along with gentle background music. After the fatigue of 10 consecutive hours of flight, Ruan Nian finally seemed able to catch his breath slightly.
He took off the wide brim of his thick coat without unwrapping his scarf, fastened his seatbelt, and opened his personal optical computer.
First, as usual, he glanced at the finance column headlines. The “Exclusive Interview with the President of Muyu Group” flashed past his fingertips, and Ruan Nian indifferently switched to StarBlog to open his most recently received comments.
In fact, he had only posted a very simple four-panel comic, which wasn’t even colored. It used only simple black-and-white strokes.
Yet the lines from the omega’s pen were delicate and clean. Even casual doodles could make people feel warm.
The first panel showed a few scattered books on a table; the second panel was a glass of soda with ice cubes, still bubbling; the third was a cute little kitten; and the fourth was a lifelike bouquet of flowers. Seemingly unrelated images put together unexpectedly achieved harmony through composition and angles.
[Ahhhhh front row! Blindly guessing P1 means Master Nian Gao is releasing a new work! P2, is Master missing summer? P3, extremely gorgeous glutinous rice ball! P4, did I see wrong?! Did I really not see wrong?!]
[The person above is so fast QwQ Today is also a day of crying for Master’s gorgeous strokes! P4 is the Prime Star’s white buchanan, right?! Is it?! Did Master come to Prime Star to play?! Can I look forward to a fan meeting! (Wishful thinking)]
[Hahahaha, is Master so afraid of the cold yet still wants to drink iced soda XD I recommend the new drinks at Prime Star’s Star Drink Shop, they are super delicious! Master, keep warm, Prime Star is much colder than Meng Star!]
[Have fun, Master Nian Gao! Please take care of your health and get a good rest! Looking forward to the new work!]
Because Ruan Nian was extremely sensitive to the cold during winter, he lived year-round in Meng Star, where the weather was spring-like all seasons. Every time he saw cute reader comments, his heart felt warm, and whenever he saw something interesting, he would casually give it a like.
His profession was a freelance illustrator. Because of his versatile style and delicate strokes, he gradually gained a massive following on StarBlog and established a reputation in the art circle. All kinds of commissions filled his work email like snowflakes, but Ruan Nian turned down all arrangements for the coming month, posted an apology leave note on StarBlog, and headed back to Prime Star with his luggage.
Meng Star was warm all year round. If not for special circumstances, Ruan Nian wouldn’t want to budge even half a step. But his twentieth birthday was coming right up.
The day his glands matured and his first estrus cycle arrived.
He had to make a trip home.
Ruan Nian had contacted his family doctor before leaving and finalized the check-up time. But he had secretly agreed with Dr. Tan to keep it from his older brother, Ruan Shi, for the time being. Setting off quietly and arriving alone was meant to give his long-seen eldest brother a surprise tomorrow.
Ruan Nian planned out his subsequent schedule in his mind. Suddenly feeling a wave of stuffiness, he took off his scarf and unzipped his coat.
“Air, what is the current temperature?”
The mechanical electronic voice quickly replied: “Hello, the current cabin temperature is: 23 degrees Celsius. The external temperature is: 10 degrees Celsius. Changes in cabin gas detected. Would you like to increase the air purification intensity?”
Ruan Nian was stunned for a moment before answering: “Okay, thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
It must be that his body couldn’t quite handle the temperature change, causing his pheromones to become somewhat disordered. Ruan Nian thought helplessly. He peeled off the weakening blocker tape on the back of his neck, took a new packet from his pocket, tore it open, and reapplied a fresh piece.
Closing his eyes to rest for a moment, Ruan Nian felt a bit better. Just as he wanted to check if the ingredients purchased on the star-net had been delivered, Air prompted that they had reached the destination.
Ruan Nian zipped up his coat, put his hat and scarf back on, and stepped down the cabin door carrying his luggage.
Leather boots tapped rhythmically against the marble floor. Before him stood a luxurious yet elegant interstellar hotel. As dusk approached, guests coming and going were few, but their attire suggested they were all wealthy or noble. Attendants in neat, well-fitted uniforms stood ready to greet passing guests at any time.
Ruan Nian handed his suitcase to the attendants waiting outside the cabin door and followed the welcoming staff to the front desk to check in.
After verifying his identity, the front desk receptionist handed the optical computer back to Ruan Nian with a sweet and proper smile.
“Welcome to Orchid Star Hotel under the Muyu Group. Your room is ready, and your luggage has been delivered to you. If you have any other needs, please feel free to contact the service staff. We hope you have a pleasant evening at Orchid Star.”
Ruan Nian slightly nodded his head, retrieved his optical computer, and flashed a smile at the female receptionist.
“Thank you. I bought some things on the star-net not long ago. Could you please have them sent to my room after delivery?”
Even though she had served many noble omegas before, the beta receptionist was still captivated by this smile: the young man’s short black hair was slightly messy, a pair of obsidian-like eyes seemed filled with fine, shattered stars, and his chin was delicate. Under the cold white lights, the youth appeared even slimmer, and a sweet smile bloomed on his slightly pink lips, resembling a clear spring flowing straight into one’s heart.
The young lady couldn’t help blushing a bit, her attitude naturally growing a few shades warmer: “Of course no problem, sir. It will be sent to you as soon as possible.”
Ruan Nian subconsciously offered a polite thank you, then followed the attendant toward his room.
The warm colors of the sunset slowly faded, and the autumn night on Prime Star carried even more chill than the daytime. As lights began to twinkle, various types of flyers shuttled rapidly along their routes, their streamlined metal shells suddenly reflecting dazzling, icy lights.
A discreet black flyer slowly stopped at the entrance of the Orchid Star Hotel.
Tang Xian couldn’t bear it, but he still had to speak up and remind the tall figure with half-closed eyes in the back seat.
“President Mu, Orchid Star Hotel has arrived.”
Mu Yan’s brow furrowed slightly. He pressed his right hand against his temple and opened his eyes tiredly.
“Arrived?”
The man’s voice was somewhat hoarse, yet it still radiated a powerful sense of oppression and presence.
“Yes.”
Shouldn’t one expect this from an alpha? Tang Xian muttered inwardly. Working around the clock for a whole week with less than four hours of sleep every day, yet still domineering at the negotiating table, seizing the mineral star partnership with thunderous methods.
Even when his rut unexpectedly arrived early, he didn’t change expression, simply shooting a full syringe of strong-acting suppressants and continuing to talk fluently about the plan.
Continuous interstellar jumps and work left Mu Yan somewhat exhausted, but he couldn’t relax.
The local bully of the mineral star had lost the fat meat from his mouth, and his venomous eyes stared fixedly at the top executive of Muyu Group, waiting to launch a desperate counterattack the moment he let down his guard.
The newly expanded business was at a critical stage of development, and competitors had even resorted to shady tactics, sparing no cost to squeeze Muyu out of the market.
A car accident a few years ago resulted in the data of Mu Yan’s flyer being maliciously tampered with, nearly crashing into a building. Mu Yan had to switch to manual piloting as a safer alternative, leaving Tang Xian, as his special assistant, to tearfully collect another paycheck for overtime.
Mu Yan slightly loosened his tie. The pheromone disorder of his rut made him somewhat irritable. He needed to inspect the industry in Lin Star tomorrow anyway, so he decided not to go home, opting to rest at the hotel for a few hours before continuing his work.
He opened his optical computer, which had only been in standby mode for a brief moment, ignored the continuous threats and warnings from his family doctor popping up at the top, gave Tang Xian some work details, and instructed him to pick him up again in four hours before striding out of the flyer.
As soon as he got out of the car, Mu Yan frowned.
For some reason, there seemed to be a faint, sweet scent in the air, making his pheromones even more restless. An alpha’s acute sense of smell quickly locked onto the source of the scent.
An attendant waiting by the door.
Under the strict management of Muyu Group, service personnel were forbidden from wearing any perfume. This scent must have come from the omega guest the attendant had previously served.
How could there be such a careless omega? Wandering outside at night carrying a scent.
The alpha’s brain began to race again: As a top-tier alpha, Mu Yan’s pheromone type was extremely rare and highly aggressive tequila. Even among noble omegas, matched types were scarce, which was why he remained single at 28.
Now, he was just resting at the hotel for a few hours, only to happen upon pheromones that could affect him?
Was there some conspiracy behind all this? A new type of pheromone drug? Or an attempt to plant a spy?
A mental list of competitors with biological research industries flashed through his mind, but no suspicious points emerged.
The alpha pressed his temple.
He had just decided on a whim to rest at the hotel. He was overreacting.
It was probably just the rut acting up. Mu Yan secretly planned to administer another shot of strong suppressant once he reached his room.
After handling the branch company’s affairs, he would go find that annoying guy Qin Mo for some new types of suppressants. His body had developed drug resistance to his current model, forcing him to rely on sheer willpower to suppress his irritable thoughts.
The rushing sound of water in the room gradually faded. Ruan Nian dried his body, put on a bathrobe, used a towel to roughly dry his hair, threw it onto the sofa nearby, and rummaged through the opened suitcase beside him.
The heat at the back of his neck seemed to be climbing continuously, flushing the youth’s face red. His black hair, still dripping water, rested obediently against his ears. Ruan Nian brushed away the stray locks blocking his vision, his movements looking somewhat eager.
Instead of improving after the shower, his body grew even hotter.
That’s not right. There should still be some time before his estrus cycle.
Ruan Nian’s consciousness was somewhat drowsy.
His recent diet and routine had nothing out of the ordinary; a single interstellar jump could actually cause his body to fall into such disorder?
No matter how he thought about it, something felt off. With an unclear mind, he finally felt around the lining of his suitcase for the suppressant injector.
The high temperature of his body made Ruan Nian’s head spin in waves. He straightened up, but this tiny movement caused his figure to sway unsteadily, nearly making him drop the injector in his hand.
Steadying himself, Ruan Nian quickly sat down by the sofa and injected the suppressant into his right arm.
The icy blue liquid slowly flowed into his white arm. After finishing the injection patiently, Ruan Nian irritably tossed the empty injector onto the carpet.
So annoying. Leaving his familiar environment all of a sudden made his body immediately unable to adapt.
When all was said and done, it was because of this body of his, which was weaker than a normal omega’s.
If not for that accident in his youth.
“Thump!” A soft sound suddenly echoed in the room as the injector rolling across the soft carpet hit a table leg.
Ruan Nian was startled awake by the sound.
Realizing he had fallen once more into self-pitying memories, he shook his head fiercely, attempting to scatter the gloomy memories in his mind.
The effect of the suppressant began to take hold, yet he felt a chill wash over his body.
He adjusted his loosely tied bathrobe, tightened the belt, and turned up the temperature through the room’s constant temperature system.
Ruan Nian rubbed his arms.
Cold. Still a bit cold.
He had originally ordered some ingredients and tools for making desserts, wanting to hand-make some sweets for his sweet-toothed eldest brother and take them to the company as a surprise.
Ruan Nian sighed. Given his current physical condition, it would be safer for him to make a trip to the hospital first.
Even after thousands of years of refinement and development, interstellar law provided very comprehensive protection for omegas. However, news of omegas suddenly entering estrus and causing public chaos still occurred occasionally.
The outcome usually ended in tragedy, and Ruan Nian didn’t wish to experience that a second time.
His body grew increasingly cold. Subconsciously, he raised his fingers, wanting to turn the indoor temperature up higher.
His fingertips brushed against the temperature control panel, but he failed to make any adjustments.
A sudden, sharp pain struck his glands, catching Ruan Nian off guard. His knees buckled, and he almost fell over from loss of control.
He abruptly tightened his five fingers, his slender fingers gripping the curtains tightly, causing the top slide rail to emit a harsh “squeak.” Leaning against the wall, Ruan Nian barely managed to steady his posture.
This is bad; I’m probably done for.
Ruan Nian tried hard to control his shivering body and quickly sent a message and his location to Ruan Shi. Before he could even put down his optical computer, the pain struck like a tidal wave.
“Clatter!” His fingertips could no longer hold the optical computer steady, and the small device slipped from his hand, hit the tabletop, and rolled away into some unknown corner of the room.
The sudden, violent pain brought Ruan Nian out in a cold sweat. Instead of clearing his mind, the pain plunged him into even greater chaos.
He figured he had better lie down quickly.
Just as his body moved an inch toward the edge of the bed, the cold mechanical voice of the room rang out abruptly.
“Ding! Your items have arrived. Please open the door to retrieve them.”
Ruan Nian felt a sense of foreboding.
The materials he bought happened to arrive at a moment like this. If he ignored them and left them uncollected, service personnel would probably come up to inquire right away. In his current state, there was simply no way he could cope.
It would be terrible if his pheromones caused any unnecessary chaos. Ruan Nian instinctively disliked troubling others.
His personality had always been like this.
Gently pressing his neck, Ruan Nian managed to control his body and walked toward the door.
Just need to bring them inside before the next wave of pain hits. He had already sent a message to his brother, who would definitely rush over with a doctor the moment he saw it.
The youth’s body was freezing cold while his face burned. The physical chill and mental chaos made Ruan Nian miserable.
The sweet scent inside the room condensed almost into substance, resembling spilled sweet milk, thick enough to wring sweet dairy stains out of the air.
Delicate white fingers finally brushed against the door switch.
Ruan Nian didn’t know that his peaceful life would be instantly upended by this single tiny action.
