Surviving the Apocalypse with the Young Miss - Chapter 6
Chapter 6: Another Rescue
Looking up again, Fan Mingyuan kicked away several girls who were clutching his legs and begging for help. Those girls were instantly swarmed and bitten by the monsters. Without a second glance, Fan Mingyuan gripped the curtain and began sliding down inch by inch.
Inside their classroom, there seemed to be no one left; all sound had ceased.
Tong Xiangyu couldn’t stop her tears. Terrified, she turned and ran this had to be a nightmare, she had to wake up now!
Song Ge didn’t know if the entire school was facing this crisis, but given that things had escalated so much for so long without even a basic PA announcement, she had to prepare for the worst.
Song Ge abandoned the idea of escaping through the school’s main gate, choosing instead the back wall where students usually picked up food deliveries.
However, she couldn’t leave empty-handed.
Fortunately, the sports equipment room was at the back of the school. Without having to detour too much, Song Ge found the most suitable tool: a javelin.
An inch longer, an inch stronger.
Song Ge took it and ran toward the back of the school.
The smell of blood drifted through the air. The screams had gradually faded and vanished, but this didn’t mean it was safe; on the contrary, it was even more dangerous.
Song Ge reached the wall, climbed the crooked tree in a few quick movements, and stepped onto the top of the wall. With the javelin to help her jump down, the danger of leaping from such a height would be greatly reduced. Song Ge found her angle and was about to jump when something sparkling caught her eye.
Song Ge turned her head.
A girl in a school uniform and skirt was crouched behind a tree, hugging her knees. Her high ponytail trembled along with her shoulders, the slightly curled ends of her hair brushing against her fair neck. She was clearly trying her best to suppress her terrified sobs.
The thing that had flashed in Song Ge’s eyes was the sparkling hair clip on her head.
The Young Mistress Tong.
Song Ge thought to herself: Wasn’t she saving people downstairs? How did she end up here?
Song Ge called out from above: “Hey!”
Tong Xiangyu looked up, sobbing. Her eyes and the tip of her nose were red from crying, and her beautiful face was covered in tears.
She couldn’t look more pitiful.
Song Ge remained silent. If she took this girl along, she wouldn’t be able to climb over this wall.
Weighing the effort against the trouble, Song Ge took a distant look and saw that no monsters had wandered into this area yet. Thus, she used the javelin for balance, jumped back down to the crooked tree, landed nimbly, and walked over. “What’s the use of crying? Run.”
Tong Xiangyu shook her head while hugging herself tightly.
At this moment, she didn’t have much affection for this classmate. Song Ge had abandoned others before; if they encountered danger, she would likely abandon her as well.
She didn’t want to run anymore.
She would just hide here. When morning came, she would wake up from this nightmare.
Song Ge was speechless. Not wanting to waste words, she reached out and pulled her up.
The wrist she grabbed was so thin it felt like it would snap.
Song Ge thought: A pampered heiress like this, who can’t even lift a finger, will only be able to cry and let herself be bitten if she meets a monster. For the sake of that cake this morning, I’ll meddle in someone else’s business one more time.
The very last time.
If she isn’t grateful, then forget it.
This time, Tong Xiangyu allowed herself to be pulled up.
“You can’t climb over this back wall. We have to find another way out,” Song Ge said. “Those monsters aren’t fast. What’s your time for the 800-meter dash?”
Tong Xiangyu looked at her while sobbing, unable to say a word.
Song Ge said: “Forget it. Can you climb trees?”
Tong Xiangyu shook her head, two more glistening tears flying from her eyes.
“It’s fine.” Song Ge bent down and grabbed her legs.
Suddenly hoisted into the air, Tong Xiangyu let out a scream!
Kecheng High School’s skirts were truly short, and with her slouch socks, her smooth, fair, straight legs pressed directly into Song Ge’s palms.
Song Ge said: “Grab the tree trunk, then find a place to step up.”
Tong Xiangyu sobbed, “My hands have no strength.”
Song Ge: “Do you want to turn into a monster?”
Tong Xiangyu did not. Tearfully, she reached out and grabbed the trunk. Her hands were soft and white; they felt pained as they gripped the rough bark. However, her arms lacked strength, so Song Ge gave her two more shoves from below. After some kicking, she finally stood up on the crooked tree.
Song Ge looked up and instructed: “Stay in the tree. I’m going to find a bicycle.”
Seeing Song Ge about to leave, Tong Xiangyu broke down. “Don’t go! What will I do if you leave?” It was so high; if Song Ge didn’t come back, she wouldn’t be able to get down on her own!
“I’ll come back for you,” Song Ge said. She initially thought about giving her the javelin for self-defense, but then she figured this young mistress couldn’t carry or lift anything. Even if she had it, she wouldn’t know how to use it. Being in the tree was safe enough, so she hurried away.
Tong Xiangyu watched Song Ge run off through a blur of tears, her trembling hands hugging the tree trunk.
She prayed in her heart: Please, you must come back. I beg you.
Song Ge hadn’t run far before she saw monsters “strolling” on the playground. They wandered aimlessly, covered in blood. There were quite a few about a dozen in total so she had to avoid them.
Song Ge bypassed the main road and decided to go through the school’s small woods.
Halfway through, she heard strange groaning sounds and a girl’s high-pitched cry.
Song Ge was startled. Did the monsters get here?!
She turned to run back, but then heard a man’s voice—”You’re making such a slutty sound. Does it feel good?”
Song Ge’s footsteps froze. When she heard the girl’s whimpering reply of “It feels good,” she rolled her eyes. To have the leisure to be “hooking up” out here meant the area was safe.
Without another word, Song Ge ran down the forest path toward the bicycle parking area near the teaching building.
Most of the bicycles were locked.
But security at the school was usually good, so some students were too lazy to lock them.
Song Ge quickly found one. Although cycling was fast, she had to avoid alerting the monsters. If she attracted a crowd of them, it would be bad if she didn’t have time to get the young mistress down from the tree.
Song Ge was extremely cautious along the way. She only encountered one monster: a short female teacher wearing glasses.
Her neck was covered in blood, and her eyes were cloudy and white.
Even in that state, she was still tightly clutching a lesson plan book.
Song Ge didn’t recognize her. In fact, she didn’t even know all the teachers for the subjects she took. Out of the forty students in her class, she could count those she remembered on one hand.
Song Ge couldn’t help but think: What kind of strange virus is this?!
It was so infectious and moved so rapidly.
Where did it come from?
She feared it wasn’t just the school; other places must have fallen too.
Wasn’t the father of the Liangpi shop owner like this? Then… the hospital?!
Song Ge stopped thinking about it. She lowered her body, holding the javelin in one hand and the handlebar in the other, pedaling as fast as she could.
Tong Xiangyu, being high up, could see far. When she saw Song Ge cycling back, her heart finally settled back into her chest. She even forgot to cry. “I… how am I supposed to get down?”
“Jump down.” Song Ge handed her the javelin. “Try to use this to break your fall.”
Tong Xiangyu squatted slightly, holding the javelin, but she looked helpless and awkward. “How do I use it? I don’t know how…”
“Forget it.” Song Ge reached out both arms. “Just jump. I’ll catch you.”
Tong Xiangyu was so scared she shook her head repeatedly. “No, no, I’m very heavy.” Before, she had the curtain to buffer the fall, but jumping directly like this made her terrified of an accident. “Move aside, I’ll jump down myself.”
“It’ll only be more trouble if you break your leg,” Song Ge said. “Jump quickly, we have to leave right away.”
Tong Xiangyu looked at her, still hesitating.
Song Ge: “Are you jumping or not? If not, I’m leaving.”
Hearing that tone, Tong Xiangyu’s eyes welled up with a sense of grievance. How can this person be like this?
