- Surprise! The Fake Heiress is Actually an Ancient Master of Metaphysics!
- Chapter 7 - Haunted by Evil Spirits
Master Xuanqing waved his hand dismissively. “Send them away. Tell them they’ve come to the wrong place.”
The bodyguard glanced at Huo Jingyan, who said, “Do as Master Xuanqing says.”
“Yes.” The bodyguard turned to leave.
“Wait.” Tan Lingyin called out to stop him. She looked at Huo Jingyan and said, “I want to meet the people outside.”
“You think you can just meet them? They’re not here for you,” Master Xuanqing huffed, his beard bristling as he muttered under his breath, “I don’t have the energy to help them with their divinations and calculations.”
He had expended too much of his mystical energy recently while performing divinations for Huo Jingyan and hadn’t yet recovered.
Tan Lingyin replied confidently, “No need for Master Xuanqing to intervene. I’ll handle it.”
Huo Jingyan asked, “Why are you so insistent on meeting them?”
“There’s a karmic connection between us that’s about to unfold,” Tan Lingyin said with a faint smile, her fox-like eyes curving slightly.
Huo Jingyan was momentarily dazed, but his gaze quickly darkened. “Let them in,” he said.
Soon, the bodyguard escorted a middle-aged man and woman inside.
The man carried two large boxes of exquisite gifts, while the woman held another box in her arms.
Judging by their attire, they were clearly wealthy and had dressed meticulously—simple yet elegant.
As soon as Zhao Deming entered, his eyes locked onto Master Xuanqing, and he immediately moved to kneel, only to be sharply reprimanded by the master. “No kneeling! Stand properly!”
Zhao Deming quickly straightened up and spoke with utmost respect, “Greetings, Master Xuanqing. These are the gifts we’ve prepared for you. Please accept them, and forgive our unannounced visit.”
Madam Zhao wore an apologetic expression, her dark circles barely concealed by makeup. “We know our sudden arrival must be an inconvenience, but we didn’t want to miss this opportunity…”
Zhao Deming’s voice trembled as he added, “Yes, strange occurrences have been plaguing our home lately. We’ve consulted several masters, but none could help.”
“We sent someone to the capital to seek you out, only to learn you were in Nancheng. That’s why we came to visit.”
Master Xuanqing narrowed his eyes at this. “I came to Nancheng in secret. How did you find out? Does anyone else know?”
Zhao Deming hastily shook his head. “Our son happened to be staying at Ziyun Temple and overheard the news by chance. He called us immediately.”
“Rest assured, Master Xuanqing, we haven’t told a soul!”
Ziyun Temple was the most renowned Taoist temple in the capital, and Master Xuanqing was its abbot.
Master Xuanqing sighed helplessly. “I suppose the young disciples were discussing it, and a guest overheard.”
“But Master Xuanqing, our family’s matter—”
Before Zhao Deming could finish, Master Xuanqing cut him off.
He pointed at Tan Lingyin. “Take your troubles to this young lady. I’m not feeling well these days.”
Tan Lingyin smiled slightly, her eyes warm as she looked at the couple. “Let’s talk in the living room. Whatever the issue is, we can discuss it calmly. I’ll help you resolve it.”
With that, she stood and walked out.
Zhao Deming and his wife exchanged glances before leaving the gifts behind and following her.
Madam Zhao whispered, “She must be Master Xuanqing’s disciple. She must have real skills.”
Zhao Deming nodded. “Right. No matter what, we must treat her with respect.”
In the living room, Tan Lingyin sat across from Zhao Deming and his wife.
Huo Jingyan and Master Xuanqing also followed, probably wanting to see how she would handle the situation.
Zhao Deming rubbed his hands together and said, “Recently, strange things have been happening at home one after another, especially with my father and mother. They keep sleepwalking and acting crazy in the middle of the night. Once, my father nearly fell into the pond.”
“Even my wife and I have been plagued by nightmares, and our health has deteriorated recently.”
“The servants at home have also fallen ill one after another, all taking leave, so now my wife has to cook all the meals herself.”
Tan Lingyin’s fingers moved subtly as she calculated, her eyes assessing the two men’s facial features.
“Both of you have heavy yin energy between your brows, dark circles under your eyes, and pale complexions—signs of insufficient yang energy. Clearly, you’re being haunted by a malevolent spirit, and it’s already settling in for a long stay at your home.”
Master Xuanqing, standing nearby, nodded slightly after hearing her words. The young girl wasn’t wrong.
Zhao Deming immediately pressed further, “Master, can you deal with that evil spirit?”
Tan Lingyin smiled and nodded. “Of course, but I still have some questions for you.”
“Are there currently no outsiders in your home?”
Zhao Deming nodded. “Yes, right now, it’s just me, my wife, and my parents. My daughter is studying in another city, and my son will be returning from the capital tomorrow.”
Tan Lingyin said calmly, “Tell your daughter to come back as soon as possible.”
Zhao Deming quickly agreed, “Yes, yes, of course.”
He asked his wife to call their daughter. Mrs. Zhao immediately took out her phone, made the call, and after a few words of instruction, hung up.
Tan Lingyin stood up and said, “Now, I need to visit your home.”
Zhao Deming’s face lit up with joy. “Master is willing to come personally? That’s wonderful!”
Tan Lingyin replied coolly, “I initially thought it was just an evil spirit, but now it seems it’s something else. So I need to see for myself.”
She strode out, and Master Xuanqing also stood up. “I’ll come along as well.”
Zhao Deming was even more delighted and quickly said, “Thank you, Master Xuanqing, for honoring us with your presence!”
Huo Jingyan also rose to his feet. “Let’s go.”
Master Xuanqing immediately lowered his voice and said, “What are you going for? It’s not good for you.”
“I also want to see if she really has any real skills,” Huo Jingyan replied, his gaze fixed on the slender figure already walking ahead, an inexplicable emotion flickering in his eyes.
