- Chapter 17 - I Was Planning to Pick a Good Day to Hit You
Zhao Deming followed by the two young men to Tan Lingyin’s desk, his face brimming with an ingratiating smile as he asked eagerly, “Take a look at these things—is there anything else you need? I’ll go buy it right away.”
Tan Lingyin flipped through the textbooks on the table and picked up the brand-new stationery to examine.
Only then did she stand up and say, “Thank you for your trouble, Principal. Everything is here.”
A flicker of smug satisfaction crossed Zhao Deming’s face before he glanced at her seat and immediately frowned. “Why are you sitting in the corner? That won’t do.”
He turned to speak to Liu Cheng but was interrupted by Tan Lingyin.
“Principal, I chose to sit here myself. It’s comfortable by the window.”
Seeing the smile on her face, Zhao Deming didn’t press further.
He instructed, “If you need anything in the future, just let me know. I’ll arrange it for you.”
Tan Lingyin nodded with a smile. “Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it, don’t mention it!” Zhao Deming laughed heartily before finally leaving the classroom.
The entire class stared at Tan Lingyin as if she were some rare spectacle. None of them could understand why Zhao Deming, the wealthiest man in Nancheng, would treat Tan Lingyin with such reverence.
The sycophantic grin on his face was practically blooming with flowers!
Under the collective gaze of her classmates, Tan Lingyin calmly sat back down and began organizing her textbooks.
She remembered from the schedule that the next class was Chinese.
Looking at the pristine Chinese textbook, the corners of her lips curled slightly.
It was just as well—her old one had been practically worn out from flipping through it, and she had absentmindedly doodled sketches of spirit talismans in the margins during class.
It was a good thing Tan Yayue had thrown it away, saving her from distractions while studying.
Morning self-study soon ended, and Liu Cheng left.
Instantly, the entire class turned their heads in unison to stare at Tan Lingyin.
Tan Yayue’s nails nearly dug into her palms as she glared at Tan Lingyin with burning jealousy.
How? How could an orphan who had been kicked out of the Tan family still receive such attention from Zhao Deming?
Could there be something unspeakable going on between Tan Lingyin and Zhao Deming?
Noticing her gaze, Tan Lingyin cast a cold sidelong glance at her, a mocking smile playing on her lips.
After being haunted by the lustful ghost, Tan Yayue’s mind and body had undergone a transformation.
Now, whenever she saw a man and a woman together, her mind immediately jumped to the conclusion that they were involved in an indecent relationship.
Her lust had been amplified infinitely by the ghost, leaving her entirely dominated by carnal desires.
“Tan Lingyin, you were once the Tan family’s young mistress. How could you stoop to such immoral behavior!” Tan Yayue, blinded by her smile, couldn’t hold back any longer and stood up abruptly.
She stormed over to Tan Lingyin’s desk and slammed her hand down on it. “Don’t you know that the principal’s wife is our dean of academics?”
“Have you no shame? Have you no moral boundaries?!”
Her voice was filled with righteous indignation, as though she stood atop the moral high ground.
Li Lele immediately chimed in, “Tan Lingyin, how can you be so shameless! Even if you were kicked out of your family, you can’t just seduce a married man!”
Tan Lingyin stood up and slapped Li Lele across the face. “What’s with this annoying fly? So noisy.”
Stinging from the blow, Li Lele lunged forward, clawing at Tan Lingyin’s face.
Tan Lingyin blocked with one arm and shoved with the other, sending Li Lele crashing straight into Tan Yayue.
Tan Yayue, wearing delicate high heels, instantly lost her balance and fell, her hair clip askew.
Li Lele hurriedly helped her up, repeatedly apologizing, “Yayue, I’m sorry, I’m sorry! It was Tan Lingyin who pushed me…”
Tan Yayue wasn’t actually angry with her. Instead, she raised her hand and swung at Tan Lingyin.
Just two inches from Tan Lingyin’s cheek, her wrist was effortlessly caught.
Tan Lingyin pinched her wrist with two fingers, then disdainfully flung it away. “You’re filthy, reeking of debauchery. Touching you would taint my luck.”
Tan Yayue staggered from the force, shrieking in fury, “Who are you calling debauched?! You little slut! Shameless homewrecker!!!”
She lunged at Tan Lingyin again, but Tan Lingyin frowned and, unable to tolerate it any longer, slapped her.
The blow instantly split the corner of Tan Yayue’s mouth, drawing blood.
“You dare hit me?!” Tan Yayue clutched her face, only to feel something sticky. Looking down—”…Blood!”
“I was going to wait for a better day to hit you since you’re so filthy, but since you asked for it, I won’t delay.”
With that, Tan Lingyin pulled out a disinfectant wipe from her bag and calmly cleaned her right hand, sneering, “Better scrub thoroughly—who knows what dirty, obscene filth I might’ve picked up from your face.”
Three women made for quite the spectacle, and the students in the classroom were riveted.
Tan Lingyin’s strikes were swift and ruthless.
Li Lele’s face was swollen, and Tan Yayue’s lip was split open.
Terrifying!
Li Lele covered her face, sobbing, “I’m telling the teacher!”
Tan Yayue gritted her teeth. “Report her to the dean—let her deal with this homewrecker!”
Li Lele bolted, wailing and shouting for Tan Lingyin to “just wait.”
Unfazed, Tan Lingyin sat back down and leisurely tidied her desk.
Tan Yayue hissed venomously, “Just you wait. When the dean gets here, you’ll regret this!”
“I’ll be waiting,” Tan Lingyin replied without even glancing at her.
……
After two consecutive classes, Li Lele still hadn’t returned.
Tan Yayue, with her bleeding lip, was resting in the infirmary.
It wasn’t until the final class before noon that Li Lele finally strutted back in, followed by Tan Yayue.
Behind them was a lavishly adorned woman.
Round-faced with almond eyes, she had an air of prosperity.
It was Madam Zhao.
Ignoring the teacher at the podium, Li Lele announced loudly, “It’s her! She hit me and Yayue—she’s the one who split Yayue’s lip!”
Madam Zhao turned to the teacher and said gently, “Apologies. A student reported an assault in the classroom, so I came to investigate.”
Her expression stern, she followed Li Lele’s pointed finger.
Tan Lingyin met her gaze with a smile, then casually waved.
Madam Zhao’s stern demeanor instantly brightened.
Li Lele screeched beside her, “She’s the one who hit us! Dean, look—she’s even smiling!”
“She hit you?” Madam Zhao sounded astonished. “That can’t be…”
Tan Lingyin stood up. “It was me. Because they were spewing vile insults, slandering the principal’s reputation.”
Li Lele immediately retorted with righteous indignation, “Clearly, you used some underhanded method to seduce the principal!”
Mrs. Zhao was shocked, “What did you say!?”
Tan Yayue also chimed in with a pitiful tone, “That’s right. Today, the principal even came to the classroom to see her personally and said he would take good care of her from now on…”
