Superstar Assistant [GL] - Chapter 59
Chapter 59
Zhao Qing brought the two of them to the upstairs lounge, pacing nervously in circles. Li Ziyu leaned back on the sofa, pulling Zhou Tiantian close as she rubbed her temples. “Stop pacing already. You’re making me dizzy just watching you.”
Zhao Qing turned to look at Li Ziyu, nearly in tears. “What if my confession fails today? So many people are attending my birthday banquet. If someone sees me confessing, will it affect her career?”
Li Ziyu replied, “If that happens, just have your dad shell out the money to buy her a new career path, right?”
“What are you talking about!” Zhao Qing cried.
“Since you’re so worried,” Li Ziyu suggested, “then don’t confess. Isn’t this ambiguity between you two doing just fine?”
Zhao Qing looked at Zhou Tiantian aggrievedly. “Aren’t you going to control her? Is it really okay for her to be this lawless?!”
Zhou Tiantian shot Li Ziyu a glare. Recalling that both Zhao Qing and Dong Minsi had sought out the same editor to craft their “personas,” she said, “This is your family’s hotel. As long as you do a good job with the security during the confession and we keep a lookout for you, no one should see. Besides, I think your confession will be a success today.”
Zhao Qing immediately rushed to Zhou Tiantian’s side, gratefully clutching her hand. “Tiantian, I knew you were the cutest little sweetheart! If I fail today, you must stay and comfort me. I’m very fragile!” She then shot a side-eye at Li Ziyu. “Anyway, I can’t count on this person; I’m relying entirely on you.”
Zhou Tiantian nodded repeatedly in agreement.
The three of them returned to the banquet hall, and Zhao Qing went off to socialize and exchange pleasantries with the other guests.
Zhou Tiantian stroked her belly, worried. “Do you think she’ll succeed today?”
Before Li Ziyu could answer, Dong Minsi finally broke away from the crowd and approached them. Despite being a Best Actress who had stood on countless podiums, she was visibly nervous at this moment. Just as Zhou Tiantian suspected she had caught wind of Zhao Qing’s plan, Dong Minsi spoke up: “Do you guys think… if I confess to her tonight, will I succeed?”
Zhou Tiantian: “…” Li Ziyu: “…”
Li Ziyu spoke first: “The chances of success aren’t great. You’d better leave the venue right now to avoid a messy situation later.”
Dong Minsi was confused. “Even if I don’t confess, why would I have to leave the venue?”
Zhou Tiantian gave Li Ziyu a sharp elbow to the ribs. “Don’t listen to her nonsense. I think you’ll succeed. Good luck, Sister Minsi!”
Dong Minsi stepped forward and playfully pinched Tiantian’s chin. “You’re still the sweetest. If I don’t succeed, you must comfort me, or I’ll be depressed for a long time!”
Zhou Tiantian nodded. “Mm!”
After Dong Minsi left, Zhou Tiantian looked at Li Ziyu. “Those two are way too in sync!”
Li Ziyu said, “We have to stay close later. You don’t get to see a show like this every day!”
…
Adjacent to the main birthday hall was a smaller banquet room, often used for receiving VIPs or having private discussions behind closed doors. Zhao Qing decided that this was the place where she would confess.
She met up with Dong Minsi first. After chatting behind their masks for a while, Zhao Qing said, “I have something I’d like to ask your help with.”
Dong Minsi replied gently, “Of course, no problem.”
“It’s not convenient to talk here,” Zhao Qing said. “Let’s go to the small banquet hall next door.”
Dong Minsi’s grip on her clutch tightened. “Alright.”
The two walked into the small hall one after the other, and Zhao Qing closed the door. As they faced each other, the atmosphere shifted instantly. Romantic tension ebbed and flowed between them. They didn’t speak, yet it wasn’t awkward; instead, their cheeks slowly flushed.
Zhao Qing walked slowly to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out to calm her nerves before turning back with a squint-eyed smile.
Dong Minsi checked her watch. “Whatever you need help with, just say it. As long as it’s within my power, I won’t refuse.”
In that exact moment, all the lights in the small hall suddenly went out.
Zhao Qing breathed a sigh of relief and was about to speak when a loud boom sounded outside. Startled, she whipped her head around—a brilliant firework had just bloomed before her eyes!
As the firework exploded, a heart-shaped neon light suddenly lit up within the dark room.
Another firework blossomed in the sky, and simultaneously, another ring of lights ignited in the hall.
One firework after another, one lamp after another; it was a feast for the eyes both inside and out.
Dong Minsi walked slowly to Zhao Qing’s side, her voice trembling slightly. “Did you… prepare all of this?”
When she first entered, she hadn’t noticed anything unusual, but now that the lights were on, the hall was decorated beautifully.
Zhao Qing realized something at the same time. “The fireworks… you prepared them?”
Dong Minsi curled her lips into a smile. “It seems we are very much in sync.”
Zhao Qing’s face reddened, her voice dropping to a whisper laced with shyness. “I wonder if we’ll continue to be so in sync for the next part.”
Dong Minsi pulled a ring from her clutch. The sparkling diamond ring shone even more brilliantly under the colorful lights. “I know what I’m about to say might sound superficial, but it comes from my most sincere heart. From the first time I saw you, I knew I would fall for you, because your face is simply heart-stopping.
As expected, my logic couldn’t stop my feelings. Through our time together, my affection for you has grown deeper, to a point I can no longer control.
I know that as a celebrity, confessing to you is a dangerous move. But when I think about this short life of less than a hundred years, if I can’t even follow my own heart, I would lose too much.
So today, I’ve gathered the courage to tell you how I feel. If you can accept me, I believe I can bring you happiness.”
Zhao Qing was practically trembling as she listened. Her outfit today was a uniquely tailored, modified suit that was both “cool” and feminine. She reached into her jacket pocket, pulled out a ring, and with a burning face and shaky voice, said: “I can’t believe you beat me to it again. Actually, I brought you here today because I really do have something to ask your help with. Minsi… can you help me stop being single and let me be your girlfriend?”
Dong Minsi lowered her head, her nose tingling with the urge to cry. When she looked up again, her eyes were like a sea of stars. “Okay. Let’s help each other stop being single.”
They excitedly put the rings on each other and couldn’t help but pull each other into a tight embrace. Both felt that the other’s embrace was so soft, so warm, and so… evocative.
Zhao Qing looked up from Dong Minsi’s arms. Dong Minsi was wearing a strapless long dress with high heels today. Their heights were originally similar, but with the heels, Dong Minsi was now a full ten centimeters taller. For Zhao Qing to kiss her, she had to tilt her head up.
Dong Minsi instantly read the look in Zhao Qing’s eyes. She cupped Zhao Qing’s face and gently pressed her lips against hers.
Heaven knew how much she wanted to pin this person against the wall and ravish her, but her movements remained tender. Be gentle, must be gentle. The persona must not break! If the persona breaks and we break up right after confessing, this relationship would be a world-record short!
Though Zhao Qing had to tilt her head, she was very proactive in the kiss. However, she lacked experience. Even while being proactive, she knew her movements were a bit clumsy. So, she tried harder. I must be the one in control, I must be cool and domineering, I must make her unable to stop! This is the basic requirement of an aloof ‘Iron T’! Otherwise, if we break up right at the start, I’ll be a laughingstock among my friends! Especially Li Ziyu!
Despite the effort it took, the two of them persisted for a long time.
After the kiss, they were both breathless, and their lipsticks had smeared onto each other’s mouths.
Zhao Qing looked down, thinking about the “capsule” her mother had given her, and gathered her courage once more to look at Dong Minsi. “Tonight… tonight, you…”
Dong Minsi’s heart skipped a beat. She thought of the “capsule” Li Ziyu had given her that was tucked in her bag. With a lingering smile, she said, “I feel like I’ve had a bit too much to drink today. I might need to stay over at your place.”
