Superstar Assistant [GL] - Chapter 55
Chapter 55
Li Ziyu looked at Zhou Tiantian and smiled. “Why not come back? Can’t you just start pursuing her again?”
Zhao Qing said helplessly, “Sigh, if she doesn’t like me, why would I keep hanging around her? Besides, she’s a star. If news gets out that she’s being pursued by a woman, it won’t be good for her career.”
Li Ziyu laughed. “You and Zhou Tiantian are quite a match; you think exactly the same way.” As she spoke, she rubbed Tiantian’s hand. “Tell me, are all you ‘bottoms’ like this?”
Zhou Tiantian and Zhao Qing’s faces turned red at the same time. Zhao Qing, despite her short “iron T” hair, said shyly, “I’m leaving! I’m tired of watching you show off. You’re so annoying!”
Zhou Tiantian also glared at Ziyu, who just shrugged. “I’m not annoyed at all.”
Because of Zhou Tiantian’s special situation, she was hospitalized a month before the due date for observation and to handle any emergencies. In the private hospital, she naturally got one of the best wards. After a series of routine checks, the primary physician said to them and their parents: “Currently, all data is normal. Don’t worry, we’ve had successful cases with other participants already.”
Li Hongcai shook hands with the doctor. “Thank you for your hard work.”
After the doctor left, Li Hongcai looked at the couple. “Don’t worry, I have a stake in this hospital, and your mother is somewhat involved in this project. We won’t let anything happen to Tiantian.”
Li Ziyu said impatiently, “I know, but Dad, you can’t help with anything anyway. Why are you still hanging around here?”
Li Hongcai snorted. “What, I can’t stay in a hospital I invested in? I’ve adjusted my schedule; I won’t have too much work this month. I’ll come visit you whenever I have time.”
Li Ziyu rolled her eyes elegantly. “I thank you, dear father, but with so many of you here, Tiantian feels uncomfortable. She’s shy.”
Li Hongcai didn’t expect his goodwill to be rejected by his daughter. He looked at Zhong Yanjun, who was holding a stack of files. “Don’t look at me. I’m here as a research nurse. My presence is logical both professionally and personally.”
Li Hongcai gritted his teeth and left.
Seeing him leave, Han Ping said softly to Li Ziyu, “Ziyu, your father might just mean well.”
Li Ziyu smiled. “Mom, don’t mind him. He has countless things to do at his company; staying here is a waste of time. You should go back and rest too; I’m enough here.”
Zhong Yanjun looked at Ziyu, who gave her a meaningful glance. Zhong Yanjun frowned. “Don’t do anything reckless. The situation is different now. You have a long time together ahead of you; be careful for now.”
Hearing her words, Zhou Tiantian’s face heated up. She shot Li Ziyu a secret glare. But Ziyu wasn’t afraid and kept looking at the two older women.
Han Ping said, “I… I’ll go back and make some soup.” Then she left. Zhong Yanjun looked at Ziyu, then coldly stood up and walked out.
Li Ziyu finally breathed a sigh of relief. She closed the door and held Tiantian’s hand. “Finally, it’s just the two of us. I’ve been with them in this room all day, and it was going to continue.”
Zhou Tiantian squeezed her hand. “They’re just worried. You’ll make them sad if you’re like this.”
Li Ziyu leaned in until they were less than ten centimeters apart. Zhou Tiantian immediately looked down at their joined hands. She heard Ziyu say, “Then tomorrow, I’ll do ‘this and that’ to you in front of them. Don’t resist, okay?”
Zhou Tiantian pulled her hand back. “Can’t you be serious for once?”
Li Ziyu let out a soft laugh that made Tiantian’s heart flutter. ” I am serious. Don’t you know? In high school, I showed off our love in front of the whole class, and you didn’t object at all.”
“I didn’t even know then!” Tiantian protested.
Li Ziyu pinched her nose. “I know, I know. Stop being shy, or I’m going to kiss you.”
Zhou Tiantian glared at her and fanned her own face, but Ziyu just laughed. “How are you so cute!”
In the end, Li Ziyu didn’t let her go. She pinned her into the soft bedding, stole her breath, and made her cheeks burn.
…
In the evening, Han Ping brought dinner. Although Zhao Qing offered to provide prenatal meals, Li Ziyu decided to let Han Ping prepare them, as she was Tiantian’s mother.
As the three were eating at the small round table, Zhou Tiantian’s phone rang. Li Ziyu got up to get it, then frowned. “A call from a prison?”
Han Ping immediately dropped her bowl, her face turning pale and her eyes full of terror. Li Ziyu stopped and didn’t give the phone to Tiantian.
Tiantian said helplessly, “It’s fine, give it to me. It’s my brother calling from prison.”
Li Ziyu knew everything about Tiantian now, including her brother’s imprisonment. “Is it okay?” she asked, a bit skeptical.
“It’s fine. I usually send him letters and things,” Tiantian explained.
Only then did Ziyu hand over the phone. Tiantian answered and put it on speaker, signaling the other two to remain silent.
Zhao Xiaoran’s voice came through: “Sis, I heard Dad and Mom got divorced.”
Zhou Tiantian’s voice remained as soft and kind as ever. “Mm. He owed a lot of money to loan sharks. I didn’t want to pay it back for him, so I had Mom divorce him.”
Zhao Xiaoran’s voice suddenly choked up. “Sis… does that mean you won’t care about me anymore?”
When he heard the news of the divorce in prison, he was stunned. Han Ping wasn’t his biological mother, and he knew how much of a bastard his father was. He had thought about divorce before and assumed he wouldn’t care—he had friends, after all.
But things were different now. During his time in rehab, he was surrounded by fear and despair. If it hadn’t been for Tiantian’s occasional letters and packages, he would have felt abandoned by the world, perhaps losing the courage to live.
After going to prison, he wasn’t afraid. He kept telling himself he had a sister. Even if his dad was a piece of work, this non-biological sister actually loved him. He felt an indescribable warmth from her and had become dependent on her. He had even been behaving very well in prison because he wanted to get out, find a good job, and repay her. He wanted to stop his father from exploiting her and abusing his stepmother.
But today, he received a letter and package from her and learned about the divorce. He broke down. If his dad and stepmother were divorced, would Tiantian stop caring about him? Would he never receive letters or packages again? Would no one pick him up when he was released?
He immediately applied for a phone call. Because of his good behavior, it was approved. Hearing the divorce was real, he started crying. “Sis, are you going to stop caring about me too?”
Zhou Tiantian sighed. “You’re a grown man now, why do you still need me to care for you?”
Zhao Xiaoran was inconsolable, feeling abandoned by the world. But then he heard her say, “I was thinking that when you get out, you should be an adult and protect your sister.”
I haven’t been abandoned! That was his only thought. He said almost immediately, “I will protect you, Sis!”
“Mm, that’s good. Behave yourself and do well. When you get out, your sister will bring your little niece to pick you up. She’ll need her uncle to protect her.”
Zhao Xiaoran cried even harder. “Mm, I’ll definitely do my best.”
They spoke a bit more before the time was up and they had to hang up.
After the call, Han Ping’s face was still pale. “He… how… you…”
Zhou Tiantian put her phone down and sighed. “I always felt that maybe he isn’t that bad.”
Li Ziyu sneered. “So now it’s an ‘imprinting’ thing, he treats you like a mother?”
Zhou Tiantian looked at her disapprovingly. “What are you talking about?”
“I’m telling the truth,” Ziyu said. “When my parents divorced and I went to Z City for high school, I met many people with similar family situations. Most children from divorced families have emotional deficits and crave affection. That’s why I let you ‘sneak in’ back then. Now, you’re doing the same to your brother.”
Zhou Tiantian was exasperated by Ziyu’s logic. “How is that the same?”
Li Ziyu smiled proudly. “Right, it’s different. I was conquered by love; he can only be conquered by family affection.” Then her gaze turned cold. “But let me make this clear: if he ever poses the slightest threat to you or the baby, I won’t let him off.”
Zhou Tiantian hid her smile, but the joy in her eyes was unmistakable. “I kept in touch with him thinking that if he doesn’t change, I still have you to rely on. If he does change, I’ve removed a potential threat.”
Ultimately, they were all victims of Zhao Zhonggang. It was enough for him alone to face the consequences. But if Zhao Xiaoran chose to side with his father in the future, she wouldn’t be so easy to deal with.
Han Ping, still a bit fearful, looked at the two younger women. Thinking of Li Ziyu’s powerful parents gave her a bit of confidence, and she didn’t seem as scared anymore.
After dinner, Han Ping left, and Li Ziyu stayed to keep Tiantian company.
…
Li Ziyu was supporting Zhou Tiantian as they walked in the hospital garden. Tiantian remembered an email Luo Na sent her. “Ziyu, a kitchenware brand wants you as their spokesperson.”
Li Ziyu thought she had misheard. Her mouth twitched. “I’m an idol right now. Do you know what an idol is? Endorsing kitchenware… isn’t that a bit too ‘down to earth’? It’s bad for my image.”
