Studying Is Such A Damn Thing - Chapter 9
Ever since You Cheche finished reading that post, his heart would flutter strangely whenever he ran into Qi Yuan, though he couldn’t quite put a finger on why.
“Hey, little lazybones, time to get up!”
“Mm… okay… Qi Yuan, you go wash your face first, I’ll be up in a second,” You Cheche murmured, slowly sitting up.
He thought to himself: Qi Yuan’s mom is coming back from her business trip tonight, which means tonight he’ll have the big bed all to himself again. It was something he should have been happy about, yet for some reason, he felt a bit empty.
Once they arrived at school and everyone was sorted into their spots, they took their seats. You Cheche grabbed his phone and started reading his novel again, appearing exceptionally quiet. Since he didn’t have any events scheduled, he could pretty much sit there all day.
“Hey, Papa Song! Yiyi, over here!” Qi Yuan waved to the two of them. Hearing his voice, they walked over. “What events do you have today?”
Song Chaolian asked, “Uh… I’ve got the 3000-meter, the relay, and the long jump. How about you?”
“What a coincidence, I’m in the relay too, but I’m only running the 1000-meter.”
“Papa Song, that’s not like you. Why only 1000?”
“Because you snatched the 3000-meter spot,” Song Chaolian said, rolling his eyes.
Tang Yuwei chuckled, unscrewed a bottle of water, and handed it to Li Yuyu. “Have some water.”
Seeing this, You Cheche started teasing them, “Wow, Brother Tang is so gentle and charming!”
Hearing this, Qi Yuan joined in and let out a rogue whistle. Li Yuyu’s face turned bright red again. You Cheche couldn’t help but think: Xiao Yu is so sweet, tsk tsk tsk, Tang Yuwei is really eating well tonight.
The principal tapped on the microphone, signaling for everyone to be quiet.
“Today, we welcome the school’s 28th Annual Sports Meet. Life lies in movement, and all victories or defeats are decided through sports. There are no invincible opponents, only a cowardly version of yourself. Come on, students, bring all your past disputes onto the field and make your opponents cry!”
“Wooooo!” The cheering grew louder and louder, and the crowd below was instantly ignited. Striking while the iron was hot, the principal added, “Now, let’s pass the mic down. From Class 1 to Class 12, each class should send two or three students to give their pre-match declaration!”
The mic was passed around for a long time before it finally reached Class 4. The people before them said all sorts of things, claiming their class would definitely be first, telling others not to bother idolizing them, or calling everyone else “noobs.”
You Cheche didn’t think much of it, but when the mic was handed to Qi Yuan and his wild, rebellious face appeared on the big screen, You Cheche’s heart skipped a beat. The whole stadium began to scream, “School Bully! School Bully! School Bully!” “Qi Yuan is the goat!” “Qi Yuan is so handsome!” One girl even screamed at the top of her lungs, “YuanChe forever!”
You Cheche glanced at Qi Yuan awkwardly, just as Qi Yuan happened to look back at him. You Cheche quickly looked away. The young man cleared his throat and spoke in a casual, carefree voice that echoed through every corner of the campus.
“I think what the previous classes said lacked a bit of cultural originality. It was a bit too low. As everyone knows, Class 4 is a legend. The richest person in the grade is in our class, the two top-performing students are in our class, the two lowest-performing students are also in our class, the most handsome is in our class, the fiercest is in our class, and the best-looking is also in our class.”
“Naturally, in every competition, first place always belongs to our class. In short, even though we are Class 4, we are Number 1. So today, we will continue this tradition. We’re going to crush every other class, no holding back. If anyone disagrees, I’d love to hear your ‘expert’ opinion.”
As he finished, the entire field went silent. Two seconds later, an incredible roar of cheering erupted. “The School Bully is Number 1!” “Brother Yuan is so cocky!” “Qi Yuan is so hot!”
Everyone in Class 4 was laughing. “Brother Yuan is the best!” “The School Bully is so cool, he’s absolutely badass!”
Qi Yuan smiled and handed the mic to You Cheche. “Two people per class. The second slot is yours.”
You Cheche, who was still laughing, was suddenly shoved a microphone. He was dazed for a moment, but when he saw his face on the big screen, he couldn’t help but get excited.
“Actually, Qi Yuan already said everything I wanted to say. But I’m sure many of you won’t accept it and think Qi Yuan is just bragging. But sorry, the School Bully really is that cool. I also know you all might doubt what we just said, but I apologize, and while I’m not trying to push any ships, I am a total YuanChe believer.”
That one sentence from You Cheche ignited the crowd all over again. The “YuanChe” shippers went wild. “Ahhhh! The official couple just gave us crumbs! YuanChe is real! YuanChe forever!”
You Cheche gave a lively smile, handed the microphone to the Class 5 monitor, and sat back down, hiding his merit and fame.
