- Chapter 22 - Oh Crap, We Have to Write Self-Reflections...
You Cheche: “……?“
The boy took off his glasses, rubbed his eyes, and looked again in disbelief, his face blank with shock.
He reached out and tapped Li Yuyu, who was sitting next to him. Li Yuyu slowly took off his headphones and leaned in toward You Cheche. A faint scent of milk-candy Omega pheromones wafted over, and You Cheche subconsciously leaned a bit closer to him. Li Yuyu didn’t notice, he was too focused on the comments appearing on the screen.
At that exact moment, Song Chaolian was talking to Qi Yuan. As he turned, he caught sight of the “intimate” scene between the two.
He gave Qi Yuan a mischievous, gloating look. The second Qi Yuan turned his head and his expression darkened, Song Chaolian couldn’t help it, he let out a loud snort of laughter.
Consequently, when You Cheche looked up, he was met with Qi Yuan’s gloomy face, with a very punchable Song Chaolian standing right behind him.
“Holy crap! Qi Yuan, are you trying to scare me to death?!“
“No,” Qi Yuan muttered, pursing his lips and looking away.
You Cheche looked down, puzzled. “Seriously, dude, it’s like you’ve been possessed or something. Wait, whoa!“
A patch of snowy-white skin was exposed beneath Qi Yuan’s half-unzipped school jacket.
You Cheche’s face flushed. He reached out and quickly pulled the zipper up for him. “What… what are you looking at?“
Qi Yuan raised an eyebrow. “What was I looking at?” He sounded normal enough, but his heart was already in a state of chaos.
A long while later.
The phone by Shen Yiyi’s hand vibrated. The screen read 23:55.
He immediately pulled off his headphones and signaled for everyone to get ready to leave.
The others were still dazed and groggy, stretching and yawning. “Ah…! Let’s go! That felt great!“
“Best sleep ever!“
“Ow! My leg is numb!“
The moment You Cheche stood up, his vision went black and his ears started ringing. He couldn’t even keep his balance.
Sigh… hypoglycemia is a real pain.
Qi Yuan immediately lunged forward, catching You Cheche and pulling him firmly into his arms.
You Cheche caught the scent of baby’s breath, the pheromones of the Alpha who had caught him.
His face turned bright red as he scrambled out of the embrace.
Qi Yuan felt a twinge of disappointment, rubbing his fingertips to catch the lingering warmth. He was still mentally replaying that hug.
The next day, the Dean of Students was on a warpath, specifically looking for students with “3/7 parted black hair” who had skipped class.
According to the Dean: “Just wait until I catch those four boys, including Qi Yuan and You Cheche!!!“
You Cheche laughed out loud when he saw the notice. “Our Dean really is the king of abstract descriptions!“
The result? All six of them were sentenced to run laps, and each had to write a 3,000-word self-reflection.
By late October, the air had turned chilly. The six of them were running lap after lap on the playground. Li Yuyu was already hitting his limit, panting heavily.
Qi Yuan ran ahead, taunting You Cheche behind him. “Come on! Why are you so slow? Can you not handle it?“
You Cheche nearly coughed up blood in frustration and cursed, “Dammit! If you’re so tough, go overtake ‘Dad’ Song and Yiyi up front! Why are you picking on me?!“
Qi Yuan looked back and stuck out his tongue. “Blehh, make me! If you’re such a weakling, go home, babe!“
Provoked, You Cheche put on a burst of speed. Just as he managed to pull level with Qi Yuan, the latter accelerated again, leaving him in the dust. Li Yuyu slowed his pace. “It’s okay, Cheche, I’ll run with you.“
You Cheche were moved to tears. If they weren’t in the middle of a run, he would have grabbed Li Yuyu and spun him around in a huge hug.
Ignoring whatever Qi Yuan was shouting up ahead, he focused on his breathing.
Seeing that his taunts weren’t working anymore, Qi Yuan pouted and sped up to catch the two leaders.
“Hey! Dad Song! You tired? Want to hit the internet cafe tonight?“
Song Chaolian rolled his eyes. “What? A 3,000-word essay isn’t enough to keep you entertained, old man?“
Qi Yuan thought about it for a second and nodded. “Fair point… never mind then…“
Today’s Mini-Theater
Lianlian: 3,000 words not enough for you?Yuanyuan: Not even close! Besides, you’re the one writing it for me anyway!Lianlian: …? Just watch me not write it for you!Yuanyuan: Nooo, brother, please!!!Cheche: Pfft! Serves you right!
Yu (Author): Alright! Stop messing around. Today we’re doing a quick interview with Qi Yuan. Our host for today is the lovely Shen Yiyi!
(Applause)
Yiyi: Student Qi Yuan, what are your thoughts on You Cheche writing novels?Yuanyuan: With his writing skills? If he actually becomes famous, I’ll marry him!Yiyi: (Holding back laughter) And what are your thoughts on Lin Ruonuo?Yuanyuan: Ugh! Total trash! If he dares touch my “wife,” he’s dead. I’ll go find him that very night. He’d better sleep with his eyes open!Cheche:? What does this have to do with me?Yu: You, student with the glasses! Today’s interview has nothing to do with you. Please cooperate and leave the premises.Yiyi: How did Qi Yuan realize he liked You Cheche?Yuanyuan: Because subconsciously, I already put him first. I realized my phone is full of info about him, and looking at how I react to him, I just figured I must like him.Yiyi: So, what’s the plan? [Eating popcorn.jpg] Yuanyuan: A direct confession? Nah, too basic. I’m going to play hard to get. I want to make it “high-level” for You Cheche.Yu: What a pun. Let me translate “high-level” for the audience: 1. Make him go gay, 2. Make him confess first, 3. Leave the “high-level” chance to yourself.Yiyi: Wait, more questions? A-Lian is calling me to do practice problems, I gotta go!
(Scurries away)
Yu: What about you, Qi Yuan?Yuanyuan: (Silently pulls out phone, starts a game, pretends to take a call) Hello? Cheche, what’s up? Dinner? Cool, I’m on my way!“
(Scurries away)
Yu is left standing alone in the wind.
