Spilling the Tea on the Movie Star Who Won't Leave Me Alone - Chapter 8
On the night the scandal broke, Xu Chi received a call from Xie Jin.
“Hey, Chi-Chi. Tell me, how did your taste get so bad? You actually like that woman?” Xie Jin had just finished the final show of his national tour. The moment he saw the headlines and Weibo, he contacted Xu Chi. “She’s average looking, and her smile isn’t even pretty.”
Xu Chi couldn’t find a gap in Xie Jin’s rant to get a word in. He had to wait until Xie Jin finished before saying weakly, “She isn’t… that bad, is she?”
Hearing Xu Chi’s answer—which completely missed the point—Xie Jin almost wanted to crawl through the phone line to hit him.
“So… are you really involved with her?” Xie Jin asked cautiously. If he heard Xu Chi say “yes,” he would immediately hang up and sever their “father-son” relationship.
“How is that possible! I don’t like her, Brother Xie Jin.” Upon hearing the question, Xu Chi bounced up from the bed and sat bolt upright.
Relieved by the answer, Xie Jin let out a long breath. “Little Chi, you scared your father to death. I almost thought you had become so desperate that you’d eat anything.”
Xu Chi didn’t bother arguing about Xie Jin’s habit of calling himself his father. Instead, he adopted a pouting, aggrieved tone to act spoiled toward the man on the other end. “Brother Jin, what should I do? No matter how I explain it, it just feels wrong.”
As soon as Xie Jin heard that Xu Chi was being bullied, he bristled. “Damn it. Someone dares to manufacture a scandal using my precious Chi-Chi? I think they’ve got a death wish.”
Hearing Xie Jin’s profanity-laced concern made Xu Chi feel much better. He continued to act cute. “It’s fine. I’ll discuss what to do with the company later. But more importantly, I haven’t seen you in forever, Brother Jin. I miss you so much.”
Xie Jin’s national tour had started in March and was only just ending now in December. Initially, as long as Xu Chi was free, he would attend every single one of Xie Jin’s concerts. Since being cast in Director Jiang’s film, the two of them hadn’t seen each other for several months.
Moved by Xu Chi’s words, Xie Jin immediately ordered the people around him to book a flight back to Beijing.
“It’s too late now. You won’t be able to book a flight.” A steady, calm voice came through the phone—likely Xie Jin’s new bodyguard.
“I said book it, so book it!” Xie Jin immediately threw a tantrum. “Go find a way, now!”
“I am only your bodyguard.”
“I don’t care. Hurry up and find a way to get me back.”
Xu Chi listened to Xie Jin bickering with the new, steady-sounding bodyguard and felt all the exhaustion of the past few days melt away.
Just as he hung up and set his phone down, Xu Chi heard a notification from Weibo. He opened it to find a post written in Xie Jin’s typically flamboyant style.
[Xie Jin Dad] mentioned you in a new post: “If Chi-Chi really liked a woman like that, your Papa Jin would be the first to object. I trust Chi-Chi; his taste isn’t that poor. @XuChi_Xu”
As always, the tone was incredibly provocative, and the post directly offended Lu Qing. When Xu Chi opened the comments, he saw they were filled with messages of support, and he couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Xie Jin’s fans were exactly like him: fiercely protective.
After liking the post, Xu Chi turned off his phone. Given Xie Jin’s current state, he would likely show up at the film city within a week.
Xu Chi lay back on the bed and pulled the quilt over his face. He had a feeling his peaceful days were officially over.
