Spilling the Tea on the Movie Star Who Won't Leave Me Alone - Chapter 35
Holding his phone, Xu Chi didn’t know what to say for a moment. He blinked and realized his eyes were incredibly dry; before long, a single tear slid silently from the corner of his eye.
Before Xu Chi could steady his emotions, Gu Jingxuan’s call came through.
“Hello, Brother Gu.”
Hearing Xu Chi’s somewhat hoarse and dry voice, Gu Jingxuan froze, seemingly at a loss on the other end of the line.
“You… did you cry?” What Gu Jingxuan feared most was seeing the people he cared about in tears. Even though Xu Chi wasn’t right in front of him, he still felt a sharp, throbbing pain in his heart.
“Yeah,” Xu Chi admitted quite openly. “I originally felt pretty wronged, but more than that, Brother Gu, I’m just so moved by you.” Xu Chi sniffled, feeling like he was about to burst into tears again.
“Brother Gu, I’ll call you back after I get home. I’m afraid I’ll start crying again right now.”
Before Gu Jingxuan could respond, Xu Chi hung up the phone. Then, looking at his own reflection in the window, he let out a silly, giddy laugh.
Once back home, Xu Chi didn’t call Gu Jingxuan back immediately. Instead, he sent a message and set his phone to “Do Not Disturb” mode.
[Little One Xu]: Brother Gu, I’ll get in touch with you tomorrow.
He didn’t care whether Gu Jingxuan agreed or not; he just couldn’t manage anything else. His main fear was Xie Jin finding out about this situation; that man could practically scold him to death over the phone.
Hiding from Xie Jin for one night was better than nothing. He didn’t want to be nagged to death by Xie Jin before the matter was even resolved. He also wanted to think carefully about how to settle this himself so that it wouldn’t ruin everyone’s harmony.
When Lin Tao heard his thoughts, he looked like he wanted to hit Xu Chi over the head with a brick.
“You’re still thinking about a peaceful resolution with Zeng Shuqi? Why do you think he waited until the drama was released to say these things? It’s obvious he saw the show is a hit and wants to leach off the hype. If this drama was like your previous ones and failed to make a splash, Zeng Shuqi wouldn’t have even mentioned you. He’s just eyeing the popularity. Stop thinking so well of people; just because you’re kind to him doesn’t mean he wants the best for you.”
After Gu Jingxuan posted on Weibo, many people immediately changed their stance. They began comparing Zeng Shuqi’s past works with Xu Chi’s acting, concluding that Zeng Shuqi’s skills were indeed inferior to Xu Chi’s, and that even if Xu Chi had “stolen” the role, it was well-deserved.
“Let’s try to keep it as civil as possible. We’re colleagues, after all. If we make things too tense, it’ll be awkward when we see each other later.” While scrolling through various comments, Xu Chi planned to log into his alt account to like Gu Jingxuan’s post.
Ever since Zeng Shuqi’s “revelation” earlier that day, Xu Chi hadn’t dared to check the private messages on his main account. The red “99+” notification made him lose the courage to click in. Some anti-fans were incredibly crude, wishing they could curse out a person’s entire family, even wanting to dig up deceased relatives just to insult them again.
After taking several deep, standard breaths, Xu Chi finally dared to open his private messages.
To his surprise, most of the messages were encouraging comments telling him not to be sad. Likely because of Gu Jingxuan’s public protection, Xu Chi had earned a decent “base score” in the fans’ hearts. Therefore, even though he hadn’t produced evidence yet, most people chose to believe him.
I bet you were given ‘special treatment’ by Gu Jingxuan, why else would he protect you like that? What’s so good about him? Whatever he can give you, I can too—I might even be bigger than him.
Insulting Xu Chi was one thing, but insulting Gu Jingxuan was absolutely unacceptable! Using such filthy words to describe Gu Jingxuan was even more unforgivable!
Xu Chi suppressed the urge to curse back and clicked on the person’s profile, only to find that this person was a professional Gu Jingxuan anti-fan. Every single post was targeted at Gu Jingxuan. The person seemed to post three or four times a day just to diss him, yet the account was only a few months old.
“This person is too much!” Angry, Xu Chi threw his phone onto the sofa, not wanting to look at it for another second.
The person’s Weibo was filled with foul language, making Gu Jingxuan sound disgusting and vile without a shred of truth, yet surprisingly, people were still following and liking the posts.
I can’t curse on my main account, but surely an alt account is fine!
Without a second thought, Xu Chi logged into his alt and trashed the person from head to toe. Still feeling it wasn’t enough to vent his anger, he posted a dedicated Weibo tagging the anti-fan. He then had Lin Tao buy hundreds of thousands of “water army” bots to force his alt account onto the trending list.
[Brother Gu is Super Handsome]: My Film King Gu is the best in the world, you have no right to say that about him! @SurnameGu
“I don’t believe you won’t be scolded to death by Gu Jingxuan’s fans this time. You can say whatever about me, but saying things about my Brother Gu is absolutely not okay.” Every few minutes, Xu Chi checked the comments on his alt account. Seeing countless people finding that anti-fan through his lead, he felt a wave of satisfaction.
Reflecting on it later, he wondered if he had gone too far—exposing someone for no reason and subjecting them to a fan war.
“Whatever, he didn’t say anything good anyway. I’ll just consider it a small lesson for him.”
Xu Chi bit his lower lip, switched back to his main account to finish reading his private messages, and finally let out a sigh of relief. This situation seemed to have embroiled Gu Jingxuan as well; quite a few people were scolding Gu Jingxuan, saying he couldn’t distinguish right from wrong and was speaking up for a villain.
Holding his phone, Xu Chi bit his thumb nail and agonized for a long time before finally deciding to turn off “Do Not Disturb” mode.
The moment it turned on, the phone vibrated incessantly in his hand, like a massage tool with a broken battery that wouldn’t stop until the power ran out.
Xu Chi held the orange juice Lin Tao had squeezed for him and watched the phone vibrate on the coffee table, making a loud buzz-buzz-buzz sound. After ten minutes, the phone finally quieted down. Xu Chi picked it up and saw the battery was almost dead.
After plugging it into the charger, Xu Chi lay on the sofa, drained of energy. He stared at the ceiling light, lost in thought.
Lin Tao came out after washing an apple and saw Xu Chi lying there pondering life. He walked over and nudged him. “If you’re going to sleep, go to the bedroom. Even with the AC on, the living room isn’t warm enough. Be careful not to catch a cold.”
Xu Chi turned his head and looked at Lin Tao piteously, pouting without saying a word.
“Fine, my ancestor, just stay right here. Just don’t get sick.” Shivering at the look in Xu Chi’s eyes, Lin Tao immediately ran back to the kitchen to calm down.
Xu Chi sighed and resignedly picked up his phone. Upon opening it, he found dozens of missed calls and messages. Most were from Xie Jin, but Gu Jingxuan had called several times as well; he likely stopped after seeing Xu Chi’s message.
Xu Chi rolled over to lie on his stomach on the sofa, a blanket over his back, and dialed the number.
“Brother Gu, I miss you.”
