- Chapter 31 - Master Xu, Do You Need Someone to Warm Your Bed?
The moment Xu Chi opened his mouth, everyone was stunned once again.
In that KTV room, Gu Jingxuan was the only one who knew Xu Chi had studied music, and he was the only one who didn’t look surprised when the singing started.
The crew members couldn’t stop praising them, saying that Film King Gu and Xu Chi were both “hidden gods of song” who had kept their talents well-concealed. While everyone else was immersed in the music, only Gu Jingxuan noticed that the fingers Xu Chi used to grip the microphone were trembling slightly.
When Xu Chi finished his song and stepped down, Gu Jingxuan reached out and took his hand. It was ice-cold. Xu Chi’s fingers were still shaking, making Gu Jingxuan’s heart ache.
Without a word, he pulled Xu Chi’s hand toward him and rubbed it between both of his own. “Why are your hands so cold? You’re the first person I’ve ever helped warm up like this.”
Feeling the temperature of his fingers gradually rise, Xu Chi pursed his lips and smiled, his face radiant with joy.
By the time the group dispersed, Xu Chi had no idea how late it was. The night outside was pitch black, with only a few scattered stars casting a faint glow in the sky.
Xu Chi glanced up at the night sky, then back at Gu Jingxuan. He felt that Gu Jingxuan’s eyes were just like the night—dark, calm, and sparkling with star-like light.
Gu Jingxuan expertly led Xu Chi into the car his assistant had driven over. After dismissing the assistant, he slid into the driver’s seat himself.
“I’ll drive back myself. You go ahead with the crew’s van,” he told the assistant.
Knowing that Xu Chi was still dwelling on the promise he had made, Gu Jingxuan abandoned his assistant without a hint of guilt and drove Xu Chi toward his home.
When they pulled up below Xu Chi’s apartment, a trace of reluctance stirred in Gu Jingxuan’s heart. He opened the car door and walked with Xu Chi to the entrance of the building, where they stood side by side.
“Thought of what you want yet?” Gu Jingxuan’s understanding of Xu Chi was still developing; he asked the question with a sense of anticipation. He was eager to know what Xu Chi wanted from him—or rather, what about him attracted Xu Chi.
Xu Chi looked up at Gu Jingxuan, his face slowly turning red. He bit his lower lip as if making a monumental decision.
After a long exhale, he finally spoke: “Brother Gu, the song you sang tonight… could you record a copy for me?”
Gu Jingxuan froze.
He had kissed Xu Chi in the restroom and sang a song filled with such ambiguous lyrics. And yet, the request Xu Chi made was merely for a recording of that song.
Gu Jingxuan felt like he was about to cough up blood. He had spent the entire drive wondering—if Xu Chi asked for another kiss, where would be the best place to land it? The forehead might seem too fatherly; the lips might be too forward. He had thought about it the whole way, only for Xu Chi to ask for a recording.
Gu Jingxuan felt a twinge of sorrow. Does my peerless beauty really not compare to a single song?
Seeing Gu Jingxuan’s unreadable expression, Xu Chi worried that his request was out of line. Brother Gu had explicitly said “no recording” in the KTV room. Had he gotten carried away because of a simple promise?
He feared Brother Gu might start to dislike him again.
“Is it… not allowed?” Xu Chi swallowed nervously. “It’s okay if you can’t give it to me. I don’t want it that much. If it’s too much trouble, please don’t waste your time.”
To his surprise, Gu Jingxuan’s expression soured even further. “You don’t want it that much?”
“No, no, no! That’s not it! I want it very much! I just didn’t want to trouble you.”
Xu Chi’s frantic explanation made Gu Jingxuan sigh. He realized he would have to work harder in the future to make Xu Chi less reserved to stop him from placing himself so low.
“Of course, you can have it. I said I’d fulfill one request. Even if you asked me to warm your bed, I’d agree.”
The moment Gu Jingxuan said it, Xu Chi looked up, his eyes bright. “Is warming the bed really an option?”
Gu Jingxuan laughed, for once at a loss for what to do with the boy.
“Of course, it’s real. Do you want to take back the first request? I could warm Master Xu’s bed tonight.”
As he spoke, Gu Jingxuan moved closer, as if he were about to lean in for a kiss. The moment his warm breath brushed against Xu Chi’s face, Xu Chi pushed him back. He took several deep breaths, flushing the “unclean” thoughts from his mind.
“No, no. Brother Gu, you have filming tomorrow. Just singing a song for me is enough,” Xu Chi said with utmost sincerity.
If Gu Jingxuan hadn’t caught that flash of desire in his eyes just a second ago, he might have actually believed Xu Chi had no designs on him. He threw up his hands in a gesture of helplessness.
“Your Brother Gu is willing to sell his body, and yet you don’t want it. You really don’t know a good deal when you see one. Fine then, I’ll record it for you once I get back to my hotel room tonight.”
The words “If it’s inconvenient tonight, you can stay at my place” were on the tip of Xu Chi’s tongue, but hearing Gu Jingxuan’s response, he swallowed them back down.
“Ah, okay. Brother Gu, drive carefully.”
Xu Chi waved with a smile, signaling for him to be safe on the road. Gu Jingxuan glumly opened the car door and sat inside.
“Doesn’t even ask me up for a seat. It’s this late and he doesn’t even keep me for the night. Xu Chi, you heartless man—refusing to take responsibility for me.”
Gu Jingxuan muttered his accusations at a volume Xu Chi couldn’t hear, yet he still waved Xu Chi over to the window with a smile.
“Lean your head in a bit. I want to tell you a secret, something no one else can know.” Gu Jingxuan’s mischievous grin was obvious, but Xu Chi obediently lowered his head toward him anyway.
Chuu. Gu Jingxuan pecked the corner of his mouth lightly and laughed heartily.
“Brother Gu’s goodnight kiss. Sleep well tonight, little one.”
Xu Chi stood by the roadside, covering his mouth as he watched Gu Jingxuan’s car shrink into a tiny dot before disappearing completely. His lips curved up unconsciously; his heart was filled with a profound sense of satisfaction.
The way Brother Gu and I are now, it really feels like we’re dating. Like a couple in the middle of a passionate romance.
It wasn’t until even the exhaust fumes were gone that Xu Chi finally headed into the apartment building. As he replayed the day’s events in his head, his smile never faded.
Brother Gu kissed me twice today. Once on the cheek, once on the mouth. Brother Gu sang a song for me. Even if I don’t know if it was meant for me, I’ll just pretend it was. And he said he’d record it. Brother Gu held my hand. He held it many times. Brother Gu even warmed my hands. It was so warm.
While Xu Chi was busy cataloging Gu Jingxuan’s kindness, Gu Jingxuan was on the road, making a call to his manager.
“Check into Xu Chi’s past for me. I want to know everything, down to the smallest detail.”
