- Chapter 3 - Late Night Conversation
Xu Chi sat on the small sofa with his script, forcing himself to focus and stop thinking about Gu Jingxuan’s abs. He had just managed to process a single line of dialogue when he saw the bathroom door open.
Lifting his head, he was greeted by the sight of two long, fair legs and a glimpse of abdominal muscles partially covered by a towel.
Gu Jingxuan had walked out wearing nothing but a towel wrapped around his waist, putting his perfect physique on full display. He also successfully caused Xu Chi’s nose to start bleeding.
“Hey, why is your nose bleeding?” Gu Jingxuan rushed over, tilting Xu Chi’s head up and pressing a tissue against his nose.
Gu Jingxuan’s breath fanned across Xu Chi’s face, steaming him until he looked like a bun fresh out of the steamer—fully cooked through.
“The weather has been dry lately, so I’m prone to nosebleeds,” Xu Chi said with a dry laugh. He took the tissue from Gu Jingxuan’s hand and held it against his nostril himself. “But, Brother Gu, why did you come out without any clothes on? You’ll catch a cold easily.”
If you had come out fully dressed, I wouldn’t have had a nosebleed. This is so embarrassing!
Gu Jingxuan pulled out another tissue to wipe away the blood that had accidentally gotten on his hand. He chuckled. “How are you just like my little nephew? His nose starts bleeding the moment the winter air gets dry, too.”
Xu Chi blinked blankly, looking at Gu Jingxuan with an innocent expression.
“I actually… rarely get nosebleeds. It’s probably just because I’ve been staying up late lately.”
Noticing the script lying on the table, Gu Jingxuan smiled at Xu Chi, who had finally composed himself. “The kid is quite hardworking. You’ve made a lot of notes.”
Xu Chi’s face hadn’t even cooled down yet, and at Gu Jingxuan’s praise, the temperature surged right back up.
“My… my foundation isn’t great, so I can only read more and take more notes.” Xu Chi crumpled the tissue into a ball and threw it into the trash can, thinking to himself: If I don’t take notes and study the character, the media will start questioning again whether a rising idol like me got this role through ‘unspoken rules’.
Gu Jingxuan made himself at home and sat on Xu Chi’s bed, flipping through the script. The annotations were all very spot-on, showing a great grasp of the character. Yet, Xu Chi had been quite stiff during their scenes together today.
“Are you afraid of me?”
The sudden question caught Xu Chi off guard. Not knowing how Gu Jingxuan had reached that conclusion, he hurriedly explained, “No, Brother Gu. It’s just… it’s my first time working with Director Jiang and my first time acting with you. I’m… a bit nervous.”
Receiving the expected answer, Gu Jingxuan smiled. “So, if you get cast in films by other big directors or work with other A-list stars in the future, are you going to stay nervous?”
Xu Chi pursed his lips and remained silent.
I’m actually only nervous when I’m facing you.
“As an actor, the most important thing is to be the person in the script. If you bring your outside emotions into the scene, people will call you unprofessional. You have a great understanding of the character, but because you’re nervous about acting alongside a big name, your entire performance suffers. Kid, next time, try to forget those external emotions and turn yourself into the character.”
Gu Jingxuan stared at Xu Chi’s bright red earlobes. He wanted to reach out and rub them, but fearing he would scare the boy, he restrained himself.
These words were very helpful to Xu Chi. He realized he had been looking at Gu Jingxuan through his own fanboy eyes, which was why Director Jiang had been scolding him all day.
“Thank you, Brother Gu. I’ll keep that in mind.”
The kid is really cute when he blushes.
Gu Jingxuan waved his hand and stood up. “It’s getting late. You should get some sleep. Thanks for the bathroom today. See you tomorrow morning.”
Xu Chi followed Gu Jingxuan to the door, looking at him expectantly.
“What, do you want to come over to my place and sit for a while?”
Xu Chi shook his head immediately, terrified. “No, no, no. I’m just… seeing you out. Please, go back and rest.”
With that, he shut the door with a loud thud.
Outside the door, Gu Jingxuan rubbed his nose, a helpless smile appearing on his face.
He really is just a kid.
