Shocking! The Protagonist of the Mpreg Story Is a Straight Man - Chapter 25
“Coach, you were looking for me?”
“What do you mean ‘I was looking for you’? Open those big eyes of yours and look at what time it is! Everyone else has almost finished their three-kilometer run, and where are you? Not a soul in sight!”
Pei Nan shot up from his bed, answering while pulling his clothes on. “I’m coming right now!”
“Don’t bother coming. The schedule you gave me shows you have classes this morning. Just make up the training volume later and go to class.” The coach paused, speaking in a heavy, earnest tone. “I know things are tough right now, but there will be a harvest in the end. If you’re feeling pressured, you can talk to me. Try your best not to stay up late at night.”
He was worried that Pei Nan was suffering from insomnia due to stress, which led to him being unable to wake up in the morning.
Even over the phone, Pei Nan was so embarrassed his face turned beet red. With his clothes half-on and draped over his shoulder, he stammered, “I’m fine, Coach. I just haven’t adjusted my rhythm yet. Don’t worry, I promise it won’t happen again.”
“Young man, don’t speak so absolutely. Our discipline isn’t made of iron. If there are any problems or difficulties, communicate in time. Above all, take care of your body.”
“Understood, Coach.”
After hanging up, Pei Nan rushed to wash up. Between attending classes, eating, and training, the day passed in a frantic blur so busy that he had no time to think about what that dream meant.
It felt as though, by staying busy, he was still the same Pei Nan, without having undergone the unsettling and agonizing changes within himself.
Having sent two messages without receiving a single reply, Xue Xingqi very keenly sensed that something was wrong with Pei Nan.
In his impression, Pei Nan wasn’t someone addicted to electronic gadgets, but he wasn’t the type to leave his phone sitting there without checking it, let alone ignore messages. He was the kind of person who would definitely check a message once it arrived; whether he replied or not depended on the situation.
The questions he had asked were nothing more than what Pei Nan wanted for lunch or what time training started in the afternoon.
These were things Xue Xingqi already knew clearly from the schedule. He was merely using them as an excuse to get Pei Nan to start chatting with him in a relaxed manner. This method had always been effective in the past, which is why Xue Xingqi had fixed this as their mode of communication. He hadn’t expected Pei Nan to stop taking the bait so suddenly.
After some thought, he first gave Chen Bin a call.
“You’re asking about last night? Last night was pretty normal. I was playing games with Daddy Nan… cough, I mean, Brother Nan. He lay down because he had training today, so I pulled my bed curtain and played for a while longer… until about two in the morning. I got up to relieve myself, and when I came back, Brother Nan was sleeping very soundly.”
“What about this morning?”
“I had an early class this morning and left at 7:30. Brother Nan wasn’t up yet, and there was no sign of him waking. I thought he didn’t have training today.” Chen Bin felt a bit embarrassed and asked Xue Xingqi in a low voice, “Did Brother Nan miss his training this morning? He didn’t get scolded by the coach, did he?”
Xue Xingqi’s voice was calm, carrying a faint air of reassurance. He neither confirmed nor denied Chen Bin’s guess. “It’s not a big deal. I’ll talk to him in a bit. When he gets back to the dorm, don’t bring it up to him again. Let this matter pass quickly; people shouldn’t wallow in past emotions, as it affects their future lives.”
Chen Bin thought about it and felt that Xue Xingqi made sense. “I got it.”
Hanging up the phone, Chen Bin couldn’t help but sigh Xue Xingqi really was a good man one could rely on.
Just as he finished sighing, Pei Nan pushed the door open and walked in. He was covered in a sort of disheveled, decadent beauty, looking as though he had been ruthlessly tormented by the coach. Strands of semi-dry hair draped over his forehead. His usually handsome, smiling face was now a mask of indifference. The corners of his mouth were pulled straight, and his gaze was colder than a man who had been killing fish at the market for ten years, making people afraid to approach him.
Fortunately, Xue Xingqi had given him a heads-up.
Carrying this “beautiful misunderstanding,” Chen Bin cautiously greeted Pei Nan.
“I’m fine.” Pei Nan threw his bag on the desk and began stripping off his clothes. In a few quick motions, he changed into his pajamas and scrambled onto his bed.
In fact, Pei Nan hadn’t wanted to return to the dorm tonight. He was afraid that if he came back, he would have more of those messy, chaotic dreams.
The unread messages in his WeChat were already enough to disturb his peace of mind. Before, he hadn’t paid attention and didn’t realize it, but once he became conscious of it, he noticed that every conversation between him and Xue Xingqi was started and ended by the other person. Those tactics were no different from how he used to flirt with girls. In other words, Xue Xingqi had been flirting with him like a girl for a long time!
Previously, he lacked the awareness of being with a man, so many times he treated Xue Xingqi’s behavior and words as just interactions between bros pure as could be. Thinking about it now, that guy Xue Xingqi had been up to no good for a long time!
Pei Nan turned toward the wall in a huff, baring his teeth and punching the wall once.
Hearing the dull thud, Chen Bin immediately looked at Pei Nan. Seeing that he wasn’t continuing to “self-mutilate” to vent his frustration, he secretly sent a message to Xue Xingqi.
[Xue-God, please go and comfort him. I heard him punching the wall.] This was followed by a terrified emoji.
Xue Xingqi received the message but didn’t dare to act rashly. After dealing with Chen Bin, he carefully composed a message to Pei Nan, writing and deleting, until finally, only a blank chat box remained.
Based on the intelligence he gathered from Chen Bin, he couldn’t analyze why Pei Nan wasn’t replying. If this problem continued to hang between them, would he and Pei Nan be unable to take another step forward?
How should he ask? What should he say? Should he go to Pei Nan’s dormitory building? Should he just go for it and confess to Pei Nan? Was Pei Nan really ignoring him because of “their” situation?
For the first time, Xue Xingqi encountered such a thorny problem; he couldn’t even find a single person to help him.
Are you asleep? Was today very busy?
When the WeChat notification popped up, Pei Nan glanced sideways and saw Xue Xingqi’s name.
The screen went dark again, reflecting Pei Nan’s brooding gaze.
He rolled over irritably and happened to meet Chen Bin’s peeking eyes. The next second, Chen Bin guiltily picked up his phone and pretended to start playing a game normally.
Pei Nan irritably rolled back over.
Busy. Tired. Going to sleep.
After replying to Xue Xingqi, he immediately put his phone on “Do Not Disturb” mode.
“419, do you have any potions that make one sleep deeply? Can I pay with the extra ‘Sticking Points’ from last time?” Pei Nan wanted so badly to just sleep his life away.
419: “…”
“That won’t work, Host. Your ‘Sticking Points’ have already expired. However, if you have ‘Kissing Points,’ I can apply for a special exception for you.”
“What kind of crap have you been in contact with lately? Can’t you speak properly!”
419: “Every debt has its debtor! Don’t take your anger out on me!!”
Pei Nan let out a cold sneer. Damn it, I need Kissing Points to get a good sleep? If I were willing to accept a kiss, would I even be having trouble sleeping?!
